Abandoned White Moonlight Chapter 68

When he arrived, his anger was like a balloon ready to burst in front of Dai Yixin—how dare he use such a pitiful tactic to deceive him?

But now, it was as if a needle had pricked the balloon before it could explode, forcing all that resentment and fury to deflate.

No matter how much he gets angry at Dai Yixin, the other person won’t give any response.

Dai Yixin has become a fool.

How interesting.

With a blank expression, Huo Youqing walked down the gleaming hallway of the sanatorium. As he descended the stairs, something landed on the tip of his nose. He belatedly looked up.

It was snowing.

This time, he had driven himself here, refusing any offers for a ride. As he drove over the high bridge, cold buildings continually receded behind him, and the tiny snowflakes were not enough to obscure his vision. He didn’t fully close the car window, leaving a gap to let the cold wind in.

Dai Yixin has become a fool.

Dai Yixin is now a fool.

Dai Yixin…

No, he isn’t Dai Yixin.

The foreign doctor had shown him a document earlier, and the signature at the bottom was “Dai Yuan.” The “Mr. Dai” they referred to was “Dai Yuan.”

Nine years ago, Dai Yixin had changed his name to “Dai Yuan.”

Nine years later, the renamed Dai Yixin turned himself into a fool.

Dai Yixin had completely erased “Dai Yixin” from the world, so thoroughly that not even he would remember he was once Dai Yixin.

He’s always been like this—doing whatever he wants.

They arrived at the neighborhood.

Without any expression, Huo Youqing got out of the car and took the elevator home. When his cousin learned what Dai Yixin had done, he was dumbfounded for a long time. “He… he…”

He stammered for a while before finally blurting out four words: “He’s really crazy.”

Huo Youqing chuckled softly, his phoenix eyes glimmering, “Cousin, aren’t you going to congratulate me? I’m finally free now.”

His cousin was stunned. If Dai Yixin had left his cousin in a normal way, he certainly would have congratulated him. Escaping such a madman would indeed be worth celebrating. But it was this extreme, irreversible method.

An irreversible surgery, and even the power to decide on euthanasia was handed over to Huo Youqing.

If Huo Youqing wanted him dead, he could legally let him die without facing any legal consequences.

And Dai Yixin himself wouldn’t even know it was Huo Youqing who made that decision because Dai Yixin was already a fool, completely unaware of the outside world. On the day of the surgery, he had lost the ability to ever know what Huo Youqing would do next.

Whether he’d choose to kill him, or something else.

His cousin shivered to the bone, unable to imagine what he’d do if he encountered such a madman. Thinking this, he looked at Huo Youqing not with joy but with deep pity.

“Youyou, if you’re feeling sad, it’s okay to cry.” He spoke softly.

But Huo Youqing just laughed, “Why would I cry? You’re acting so strange.”

His cousin wanted to explain but didn’t know what to say. The situation was too complicated, and his feelings were too tangled. In the end, he opened a bottle of wine. “Forget it, let’s not talk about it. Tonight, we’ll drink. I’ve already told Little Rou I’m not coming home.”

He was ready to drink his fill with his cousin, but his cousin had no intention of getting drunk. He barely touched the wine and went off to shower. It was his cousin who ended up drunk, so drunk that Huo Youqing had to help him into the guest room.

That guest room had been where Dai Yixin stayed a few months ago, though it had been four months since then. A cleaning lady came weekly to keep the place tidy. Huo Youqing rarely went into the guest room, but as he entered tonight, he realized that none of Dai Yixin’s things were there anymore.

Not a single thing.

That night, Huo Youqing had a dream. In the dream, Dai Yixin was on top of him. No matter how much he pushed or kicked, it was useless. Dai Yixin’s hot breath fell by his ear, and his hand pressed tightly against his. As if that wasn’t enough, he interlocked their fingers.

“Youyou, you’re mine.” Dai Yixin said forcefully. Not long after, like a pitiful large dog, he rubbed his cold cheek against him. “Promise me, okay?”

Their palms, pressed together, were damp with sweat. Huo Youqing was full of resentment but couldn’t control his body’s reaction. As he was torn between two emotions, the person above him suddenly turned into a snake.

Before Huo Youqing could scream, the scene shifted. A two-meter-long snake was pinned to an operating table, surrounded by a circle of medical staff in sterile clothing. Some were watching monitors, others handing over instruments…

Uncontrollably, he stepped into the operating room. He saw the doctor cut open the snake’s head, revealing its bloody insides. The sight was so gruesome and bizarre that he stopped in his tracks. At that moment, all the medical staff turned their heads simultaneously and smiled at him.

They said, “You’re free now.”

Huo Youqing woke up drenched in cold sweat. The room was pitch black, but he instinctively looked around. Naturally, there was no one by the bed.

Freedom had arrived so suddenly.

Huo Youqing began applying for jobs again, and the job search went unusually smoothly. Not long after starting his new job, he made a few colleagues he could talk to.

Some of his colleagues were very warm and, before long, invited him out for meals. On one colleague’s birthday, he was even invited to their home for a dinner party.

During dinner, the people around the table were laughing and chatting. As he sat among them, there was a moment when he felt disoriented. He was like a bird with waterlogged wings, unable to fly, slowly sinking into the ocean. Around him were fish, each with a strangely shaped face.

He looked at his colleagues, who now had fish-like faces. Their gills moved in and out, and their bulging eyes seemed ready to drop into the soup at any moment.

With a loud scrape, the fish all turned to look at him. Huo Youqing blinked and realized it was the sound of his chair dragging as he suddenly stood up. He smiled faintly. “I’m just going to the bathroom.”

The fish smiled back at him, with one even telling him to hurry back so he wouldn’t miss the part where they were teasing Brother Qin.

At the colleague’s birthday party, Huo Youqing exchanged contact information with some new friends, and one of them even messaged him enthusiastically later that night.

Everything seemed so normal. His life, long overdue, had finally gotten back on track—just like any ordinary person, he now had a normal life.

One day after work, instead of going straight home, Huo Youqing detoured to buy some bread for tomorrow’s breakfast. It was the weekend, and he wasn’t planning on going out in the morning or getting up to cook.

Leaving the bakery, people of all kinds bustled past him. He pulled his scarf tighter around his neck and headed for the parking lot.

As he was about to get in the car, someone suddenly grabbed his arm and forcefully pulled him into an embrace.

Huo Youqing’s body tensed, and he instinctively raised the bag of bread in his hand to hit the person, his tone filled with anger, disgust, and exhaustion. “Dai Yixin, I knew it—”

Halfway through the sentence, he froze.

How could it be Qiu Wenfei?

18-year-old Huo Youqing unexpectedly woke up in the body of his 27-year-old self, having crossed nine years into the future. Everything around him has changed. His best childhood friend grabbed him by the neck, punched him in the face, and cursed his ancestors. His usually caring and attentive college roommate now looked at him with disgust. From their conversations, Huo Youqing learned a name: "Dai Yuan." They all despise him because of Dai Yuan. But Huo Youqing doesn't know who Dai Yuan is. Believing he has lost his memory, Huo Youqing calmly accepted the change in everyone's attitude toward him. Then, after falling asleep, he wakes up once again—but this time back in his 18-year-old body. The childhood friend who had been ready to kill him in defense of Dai Yuan now bent down gently, caressed his cheek, and softly coaxed him: "Why sleep here? It's so cold. Youyou, I'll take you home." The college roommate who had foretold his downfall was now kneeling at his feet, carefully applying a bandage, saying, "Youqing, you have a small wound on your foot." From then on, Huo Youqing started traveling between two different timelines.
