After Pretending to be a Beta, the Omega was Discovered by the School Heartthrob Chapter 31

The school was having a physical examination. This time, it was a big event, even more extensive than previous ones, and Class Three was scheduled for the afternoon.

Zhou Le was thrilled; he could make some pocket money.

During these physical exams, there were always students who didn’t want to wait in line or go to retrieve their reports. If he offered his help, he could earn a nice sum, like those services you see online. Even if it’s not much, he could make a few bucks, as long as he stays at the back of the line by the end.

By the afternoon, his hustle paid off—he’d already earned 20 yuan.

Since the teachers were less strict later in the day, Zhou Le could roam around, helping others retrieve test tubes, fill out forms, hold clothes, and hang bags.

Apart from the doctors, he was the busiest person there.

Gradually, people began to notice him.

“Hey, who’s that kid? A medical assistant? Why is he everywhere? Wait, he’s in a school uniform!”

“You don’t know him? That’s Zhou Le. If you ever need anything delivered, you can ask him. Only one yuan, super cheap.”

“Oh, that’s nice. Could he pick up a package for me?”

“Of course. You’re on the sixth floor, right? If you don’t want to come down, have him grab it for you. Pay him enough, and he’d probably carry you to the restroom, haha.”

“Actually, you know, Zhou Le’s face looks cuter the more I see him. He’s kinda pinchable.”

“Come on, Hu Yang, don’t tell me you’re eyeing a Beta now.”

“I mean it. Don’t you think? Zhou Le looks pretty good.”

“Didn’t say he didn’t, but he’s still a Beta.”

“So what? Alpha doesn’t always have to end up with Omega.”

“Yeah, Zhou Le is quite good-looking.”

“Right? You agree too, don’t you?” Hu Yang, excited that someone agreed, slapped his friend’s shoulder. “He has that wholesome, sunny vibe. His smile really stands out…”

At this, Hu Yang stopped abruptly, looking up to meet the gaze of someone from another line. He shuddered.

“Why’d you stop? Keep talking.” His friend followed Hu Yang’s gaze and spotted Lu Jiran, who also flinched.

“Cr*p, why’s he looking at us like that?”

“How would I know? Are we too loud?”

“Forget it, stop talking. Keep it down.”

“Look who’s talking, you kept going on about Zhou Le. If you like him, go for it.”

“Get lost.”

Zhou Le, sweating from all the running around, hadn’t noticed his Omega pheromones subtly leaking out. It was faint, if not paying attention, no one would notice.

“Zhou Le, help me grab my blood test tube.”

“Oh, got it, coming!”

As Zhou Le was about to slip out of line again, Lu Jiran grabbed him by the collar with one hand.

Zhou Le: “?”

Lu Jingran looked at him, not saying a word.

Zhou Le called out, “Class rep?”

Lu Jingran just stared for a moment, then finally relented and let go of him.

“No laughing,” he emphasized.

This sudden remark left Zhou Le puzzled. “Huh?”

After a moment, he realized Lu Jingran was probably telling him not to laugh while darting around too obviously, maybe to avoid drawing the teacher’s attention.

Zhou Le immediately understood the class rep’s good intentions.

So, from then on, he put on a serious face, furrowing his brows to look as grave as possible.

“Here’s your blood test tube,” he said, handing it over with a deadpan expression. “Just scan this code, thanks.”

The student receiving it hesitated, unsure, “Is there… something wrong with my blood?”

Dude, what’s with that expression?

The physical exams for Class 3 finally wrapped up around 3 p.m.

Back in the classroom, everyone looked exhausted—except Zhou Le, who seemed thrilled.

In just over an hour, he had pocketed 30 yuan in tips. Perfect! Tonight, he’d have a special dinner with his mom.

But his joy was cut short as the homeroom teacher, Xu Yue, entered and shut the door. “I need to tell everyone something.”

“The school just informed us that they added a new test to this physical exam: a genetic test, specifically for a gender reassessment.”

The room erupted.

“What? Another test? Didn’t we submit this when we started high school?”

“Exactly! I went to several clinics at the time, and they all confirmed I was a Beta. But when I was younger, they said I’d grow up to be an Alpha.”

“Are we paying for this?”

Routine school physicals are free, except for optional extras, which require payment.

“I heard it’s because of something that happened at No. 2 High. Apparently, a Beta turned out to be an Omega during college entrance exams, and kept it a secret. Coincidentally, they went into heat on exam day, affecting other Alphas and Omegas at that test center. The parents sued, and the principal there almost had to resign.”

“Yeah, I remember. It even made the news.”

Zhou Le listened to the discussions, biting his lip.

“Quiet!” Xu Yue tapped the board. “Because of the added test, each person has to pay 10 yuan. Turn it in to Li Yang after class. Now, let’s start self-study.”

Lin Xiaoxiao sighed in relief at the price, “Phew, just 10 yuan.”

“I just bought my idol’s new album last week, so I’m broke! And now the school’s charging us…” After complaining, Lin Xiaoxiao turned and saw Zhou Le’s sullen face. “Really, dude? It’s just 10 yuan.”

Zhou Le pressed his lips together silently.

It wasn’t about the 10 yuan.

Another genetic test…

Zhou Le clenched his fists.

He had never expected to have another genetic test in high school. His last test had classified him as a Beta. But now, he could clearly smell his own pheromones, and Dr. Zhang had confirmed he’d fully developed as an Omega. What would he do?

Wouldn’t this test reveal everything?

At the thought of the questions and scrutiny that would follow, Zhou Le’s face remained expressionless.

It felt like falling into an endless abyss, one where he couldn’t even scream.

He could only hope someone might stumble into the abyss and pull him out.

Ever since hearing about the genetic test, Zhou Le had been anxious, barely able to concentrate.

During a chemistry lab that evening, he even made multiple mistakes while writing his report.

Chen Nan, noticing, remarked, “Are you okay? You can’t even type properly?”

Zhou Le kept his head down, saying nothing, feeling ice-cold inside.

Chen Nan, noticing his pale face, worried he’d been too harsh and glanced at him several times.

Lu Jingran also looked at him more than once.

One evening on the way home, Lu Jingran suddenly asked Sheng Qian, “Who does the genetic testing for our school?”

Sheng Qian looked at him and caught on quickly, “My uncle’s lab.”

Lu Jingran looked down.

Sheng Qian glanced at the sleeping Chen Nan on his shoulder, then turned to Lu Jingran. “Do you want me to put in a word? But it won’t stay hidden for long, you know.”

Lu Jingran was silent for a moment, gazing out into the dark night.

After the weekend break, on Monday during the second period, the reports were finally in.

A committee member from Class 9 came by, saying they could pick up the reports from the admin office.

Zhou Le, who had been haggling over a delivery with a student from Class 10, shot to his feet when he heard.

Seeing Lu Jingran and Sheng Qian heading out, he hurried over, “Class rep.”

Both Lu Jingran and Sheng Qian turned.

Zhou Le ventured, “How about… I come too? It’ll be easier with one more person.”

Sheng Qian didn’t respond, looking to Lu Jingran.

Lu Jingran glanced at him.

Sheng Qian understood immediately, “Two people are enough, actually. You go ahead; I’ve got a chemistry lab to review.”

This was ideal.

Zhou Le kept his reaction in check, simply smiling. “Alright, no problem. I’ll handle it.”

And so, Lu Jingran and Zhou Le walked together to the admin office.

Zhou Le had never been this nervous, his palms sweating.

What would he do if the report labeled him an Omega?

With a mind in complete disarray and filled with anxiety, Zhou Le followed Lu Jingran all the way to the admin office.

He knocked on the door, but there was no response. When he pushed it open, no one was inside.

The entire office was quiet.

Zhou Le’s attention was soon drawn to a conference table in the middle of the room, where stacks of physical exam reports were neatly organized by class.

One of those stacks must contain his report.

Anxious, Zhou Le scanned the piles, trying to locate Class 3’s.

But it was hard to find; the reports were just single sheets with each student’s class listed at the top, so he had to check each one individually.

“What are you doing?”

Someone suddenly leaned close, their breath warm against his ear.

Startled, Zhou Le turned around.

Lu Jingran was watching him, raising an eyebrow. “Why are you so tense?”

“Tense? No, I’m not.” Zhou Le waved his hand and took a step back, laughing nervously.

In doing so, he accidentally nudged an uncapped thermos left by a teacher, spilling water all over the table.

“!”

Zhou Le quickly righted the thermos and grabbed some paper to wipe the water.

Several nearby report stacks got wet, and he hurried to move them. But since the reports were loose, with many sheets and no staples, he didn’t have enough strength to carry them without scattering a few on the floor.

The scene turned chaotic.

Luckily, Lu Jingran helped him clean up.

As they were gathering the reports, Lu Jingran suddenly called out, “Zhou Le.”

Zhou Le, busy picking up papers, looked up, confused.

Lu Jingran was holding a piece of paper, examining it closely.

When Zhou Le saw what he was holding, his eyes widened in shock.

It was his medical report!

Lu Jingran looked over the report, his brow furrowing deeper with each line.

The air grew still, and Zhou Le didn’t dare breathe.

After a long pause, Lu Jingran seemed to finish reading and looked up at him.

He didn’t say anything, but his expression said it all.

No, Zhou Le had to do something to stop him!

“Class rep, I’ll take care of this.” Zhou Le reached out, trying to take his report from Lu Jingran’s hand.

With Alpha-level reflexes, Lu Jingran swiftly dodged.

Zhou Le missed, and his foot slipped in the spilled water, sending him sliding. His sneakers, bought for thirty yuan, offered no grip, and he started to fall.

Just before he hit the ground, someone grabbed his waist, pulling him back up.

He found himself pinned against the wall in a firm but safe hold.

The impact made his back throb, and he winced.

When he opened his eyes, Lu Jingran’s face was close—too close.

He could even catch his scent.

Zhou Le froze, his heart pounding.

The next moment, he felt a light touch on his head, as if someone were gently patting it.

“Does it hurt?”

Zhou Le obediently shook his head.

Lu Jingran’s expression softened slightly.

Gradually, Zhou Le came back to his senses.

He instinctively reached for the report in Lu Jingran’s hand.

But the tall Alpha had no intention of letting him succeed.

Lu Jingran merely raised his arm, so no matter how Zhou Le jumped or stretched, he couldn’t reach it.

All he accomplished was bringing his face dangerously close to Lu Jingran’s, nearly at kissing distance.

The Alpha seemed to find it amusing, looking down at him with a faint smile in his eyes each time he drew close.

Eventually, Zhou Le gave up, looking at Lu Jingran with a mix of frustration, embarrassment, and nerves.

Glancing at the report one more time, Lu Jingran smirked and asked, “So… you’re an Omega?”
