In the next second, Lin Xiaoxiao nearly threw him out the window.
After messing around with her for a while, Zhou Le began to forget about the embarrassing incident.
He raised his hand and sniffed it; even he could pick up on the faint scent of his own pheromones.
So, he snuck off to a deserted corner in the hallway, took out his little “precious bottle,” and sprayed himself from top to bottom.
After a good spray, he couldn’t smell it anymore.
Feeling relieved, Zhou Le headed to the restroom.
But as he approached, he noticed several guys stumbling out from the bathroom down the hall.
“Whoa, d*mn! Scared the h*ll out of me! I thought the boss was going into heat or something.”
“Same here! I didn’t even finish, ran out mid-stream.”
“What’s with him today, seriously?”
“How should I know? If I did, I wouldn’t come here!”
Zhou Le heard them talking and hesitated.
What’s going on?
Curious, he opened the restroom door and glanced inside. Not seeing anything strange, he relaxed and walked in.
After a few steps, he froze in his tracks.
That smell—those pheromones!
Sure enough, in the next moment, Lu Jingran appeared.
The Alpha stood by the window, tall and calm, with a distant expression and a cigarette pinched between his fingers.
Through the haze of smoke, Lu Jingran’s gaze became even more intense.
Zhou Le had never seen Lu Jingran like this. Usually known for his cool and aloof demeanor, he was the model student and a symbol of everything perfect at school. But here he was, looking gloomy and rebellious, smoking like some notorious school bully.
Suddenly, Zhou Le understood why the others had stumbled out so quickly—he wanted to run too!
But before he could quietly retreat, the Alpha noticed him.
Through the smoke, Lu Jingran’s gaze locked onto his.
Zhou Le’s heart skipped a beat, and his body froze, unable to move or flee.
But Lu Jingran moved first.
He pressed the cigarette on the windowsill repeatedly, extinguishing it until the last ember died out.
“Here to use the bathroom?” His voice, perhaps roughened by the smoke, was low and hoarse.
Zhou Le watched him stub out the cigarette, feeling like the motion had another, more ominous meaning.
—Almost as if he was the one being ground down.
“N-No, I don’t need to… I was just checking… Please, carry on, class rep! Ha-ha…” Zhou Le stammered as he backed away, hitting the door on his way out. “Ouch.”
Watching Zhou Le scramble out, Lu Jingran let out a low chuckle, a bit of the dark mood inside him lifting.
Just now, when Zhou Le had brushed his finger, he’d actually thought about how he’d tie him up if he could.
Lu Jingran laughed at himself. Alphas really were dangerous, even he had to admit that. No wonder people ran from him.
Zhou Le barely made it back to his seat when Lin Xiaoxiao burst in, exclaiming, “Oh no, I just heard that the class rep was super angry in the restroom—and he was even smoking.”
“…Oh.” Zhou Le replied after a long pause.
Lin Xiaoxiao: “Is it the stress from your competition? We’ve never seen the class rep like this. Or did someone make him so mad he needed to let off steam?”
??
Is that even the right expression?
Lin Xiaoxiao looked suspiciously at Zhou Le, squinting. “What did you do to the class rep that was so unspeakable? You haven’t even told me.”
“Could it be because of you? Spill it! What did you do?”
“…”
Could it really be because of him? Did Lu Jingran feel offended?
After all, his little action earlier could definitely be seen as crossing a line.
If Lu Jingran were a girl, Zhou Le would have already been slapped with a harassment charge.
Just remembering Lu Jingran’s dark, dangerous look gave Zhou Le chills. He’d barely escaped—if he hadn’t, he was pretty sure Lu Jingran would’ve grabbed him by the neck and given him a beating.
Just the thought of it gave Zhou Le goosebumps.
“Um… I just… questioned his explanation on a topic, that’s all, nothing more. Really, nothing.”
Lin Xiaoxiao gave him a strange look. “That wouldn’t be enough to set him off, though. Are you sure there’s nothing else?”
Seeing her open Lu Jingran’s fan group and start discussing the incident, Zhou Le finally felt his heart settle back in his chest.
He was saved! Please, let him avoid any more dramatic encounters like this!
Thinking this, Zhou Le looked up—and instantly locked eyes with Lu Jingran, who had just entered the room.
—Cr*p!
It was as if the class rep’s gaze found him the moment he walked in.
Zhou Le quickly looked down, pretending to study, flipping open his workbook. He’d never been this eager to study before in his life.
“What’re you smiling at?” Sheng Qian asked, noticing Lu Jingran’s expression.
Lu Jingran lowered his eyes without answering and went back to his seat.
“Maybe he enjoyed the smoke,” Chen Nan guessed. “Makes me want to go have one myself.”
Sheng Qian glared at him. “Say that again.”
Chen Nan: “…”
Chen Nan: “Why are you always on my case? Why don’t you nag Brother Lu instead?”
Sheng Qian: “He doesn’t need me to.”
Chen Nan: “Well, I don’t need you to either.”
Sheng Qian’s eyes fixed on him at that.
Chen Nan, feeling guilty, mumbled, “Fine, fine, I need you to, okay?”
Satisfied, Sheng Qian finally looked away.
Chen Nan muttered under his breath, “Seriously, harder to please than a girl…”

That afternoon, the Chemistry Competition group needed to take ID photos, supposedly for promotion during the city league. Each person would have an individual photo, and the school provided white shirts and black bow ties for a formal look.
After the second class in the afternoon, their homeroom teacher, Xu Yue, led them to the gymnasium where they were lined up by grade and group.
Xu Yue handed out their clothes. “Here, go change in the restroom. You’re all Alphas, right? Use the one on the second floor, all the way to the east… Oh, Zhou Le?”
Xu Yue hesitated a moment while passing out the clothes, nearly forgetting him.
“Zhou Le, you’re a Beta, right? Just go along with the others; it’s fine for Alphas and Betas to use the same space. Easier to keep track of you all that way.”
While Alphas and Omegas couldn’t change together, a Beta and other guys were no issue.
Zhou Le held his clothes, unable to refuse, and obediently followed the group.
Chen Nan tagged along for no apparent reason, probably just to mess around. Noticing Zhou Le’s nerves, he threw an arm around his shoulder and teased, “Relax, it’s just a quick change. You’re a Beta; no need to feel embarrassed or insecure. It’s not like you’d be able to compare with the Alphas anyway, right?”
They all knew what he meant, and Zhou Le’s face reddened. He’d been worried about being an Omega, but now, thanks to Chen Nan, he was anxious about something else entirely.
“Uh… Are we… are we changing pants too?” he asked, remembering it was only supposed to be the shirt.
A brief silence followed, then Chen Nan and Xia Linchuan couldn’t hold back and burst out laughing.
“Zhou Le! Are you trying to kill me with laughter?” Chen Nan gave him a friendly pat.
Realizing it was a joke, Zhou Le coldly shook off Chen Nan’s arm.
When they got to the second-floor restroom, they found it packed—not just with their own class but others too. The space was filled with Alphas, all in various stages of changing.
Zhou Le clutched his clothes, already tempted to make a run for it.
Luckily, some students noticed they were with Lu Jingran, giving them a bit of space to move to the far end.
Xia Linchuan started changing, but Chen Nan, although he wasn’t participating, just stood there watching intently. He claimed he was interested in the clothes, but his staring was unnerving enough that Xia Linchuan finally said, “Hey, man, you’re not even part of this. Maybe you should wait outside?”
“I…” Chen Nan began, but Sheng Qian covered his eyes with his own shirt, completely blocking his view. “Keep that covered.”
“…”
Zhou Le looked around but hadn’t found a good spot when he was suddenly pulled into one of the bathroom stalls.
It was noisy outside, but the confined space made Lu Jingran’s presence feel overwhelming.
Zhou Le clutched his clothes, feeling disoriented in the cramped space.
He sneaked a glance at Lu Jingran, who was holding his shirt with one hand. Zhou Le’s throat felt dry.
Why had the class rep dragged him in here?
Was this… going to be…
“Take it off,” Lu Jingran said.
