“Does it smell good?” The girl further probed.
The man stared blankly.
“So, you won’t check if he’s gone because you want to keep this position and take advantage of me?” Jiang Fuyue’s words were startling.
Xie Dingyuan’s previously blank gaze snapped away from her face as if burned, vehemently denying, “I am not!”
“Then look.”
“…”
“If you don’t look, your intentions are impure.”
“You!” The man’s cheeks stiffened with anger.
Jiang Fuyue’s smile deepened, and she deliberately raised her voice in a coquettish tone, “Darling, you’re amazing~”
Xie Dingyuan: “!”
“I’m so tired, can you get up? I want some water~”
Again: “!”
In the end, the man couldn’t pry any information out of her and had no choice but to lift the quilt, sit up, and glance at the balcony. It was empty.
Jiang Fuyue laid on the bed, eyes tense: “How is it? Is he gone?”
Xie Dingyuan’s gaze flickered, his voice hoarse: “Not yet.”
The next second, the girl’s soft arms encircled him again.
The electric, tingling sensation swept over him once more, and the man, utterly defenseless, was pulled back down, his entire body bending over.
Their eyes intertwined, breaths mingling.
“You…” Xie Dingyuan swallowed.
Although Jiang Fuyue maintained eye contact, all her attention was on the balcony. She didn’t notice the increasingly heavy breathing and dazed look in the man’s eyes.
She listened intently, hearing no movement.
No rustle of clothing.
She focused again but found nothing.
Could Officer Zhu really practice the art of holding his breath?
She gently pulled the man’s head to her lips and whispered, “Why is there no sound?”
Xie Dingyuan’s eyelid twitched, “He’s probably hiding…”
Jiang Fuyue didn’t doubt him, thinking this Officer Zhu was indeed tenacious, with some real skills.
The man’s Adam’s apple bobbed, “So what now?”
Jiang Fuyue: “My arms are tired.”
“?”
“I can’t keep moving the quilt, so I’m afraid I’ll have to trouble Professor Xie.”
“You—”
“Don’t know how? I’ll teach you. First, pull the quilt over.”
Xie Dingyuan: “?”
Jiang Fuyue released her hold and tilted her chin, signaling him to do it.
The man’s mouth tightened into a line, face dark with reluctance.
The quilt covered them again, creating a narrow, stifling space.
Jiang Fuyue: “Now start doing push-ups.”
Xie Dingyuan froze: “…What did you say?!”
“Push-ups. I’ll count. One.”
Xie Dingyuan felt his brain must still be malfunctioning, or he wouldn’t have followed Jiang Fuyue’s instructions and start doing push-ups.
“Two…”
Heat accumulated under the quilt, the man’s breath quickened with a thin sheen of sweat.
Jiang Fuyue’s cheeks flushed, her dark eyes bright and filled with moisture.
Xie Dingyuan was caught off guard by her gaze, his movements halted abruptly.
The next second, he abruptly threw off the quilt and sat up, looking toward the balcony. “He’s gone!”
Jiang Fuyue quickly got up, looking over to confirm. Indeed, the curtains fluttered in the breeze, revealing no one.
She breathed a sigh of relief, quickly getting off the bed.
Xie Dingyuan remained kneeling, unmoving, sweat trailing down his spine.
“Thanks for today. I’ll treat you to a meal sometime.” The girl said, running to the balcony and leaping over.
The man’s expression shifted as he rushed out, watching her swift figure recede into the distance, hair streaming behind her.
She didn’t look back.
Xie Dingyuan turned and leaned against the railing, eyes blank.
Suddenly, he raised a hand to his chest, feeling his heartbeat—thump, thump.
Meanwhile, Jiang Fuyue, after leaving, immediately took out her phone and called Niu Rui.
It rang for over ten seconds before it was answered: “Hello…”
The voice was weak.
Jiang Fuyue frowned: “What’s wrong with you?”
“Being punished!” The voice was full of resentment.
She twitched her mouth: “I climbed out from the balcony. To be safe, remember to erase the surveillance. Also, cameras 29, 30, 32, and 34. Handle those as well.”
“Got it.” Suddenly, Niu Rui reacted, “Wait! Why were you in someone’s house for half an hour before coming out? You weren’t discovered?”
Jiang Fuyue: “…”
Not only was she discovered, but she also pulled the homeowner into an act…
“Why aren’t you speaking? Were you really discovered? Didn’t they call the police? Was the homeowner male or female? Did you face them directly?”
Jiang Fuyue: “Too many questions.”
With that, she hung up.
After narrowly escaping, Jiang Fuyue cautiously circled a few times before going home.
Everything was packed, and Han Yunru was cooking in the kitchen, with Jiang Da helping.
“Big sister, you’re back!” Little Brother Jiang was watching TV on the sofa and ran over when he heard the door.
“Mm.” Jiang Fuyue changed her shoes.
“Where did you go?”
“To the property office.”
“Dinner’s almost ready!” He said, running to the kitchen, “Mom! Mom! Big sister’s back!”
Jiang Da emerged from the kitchen: “Yueyue, wash up for dinner.”
“Coming—”
The family enjoyed a happy lunch.
At the same time, at the Lihuai Criminal Investigation Team, in the tech room.
Zhu Qifeng entered briskly.
“Captain Zhu!” Little Liu stood up.
The other two young officers followed suit, “Captain Zhu, you’re back…”
“Mm.” Zhu Qifeng nodded slightly, then sat at the computer, hands on the keyboard, typing away.
Little Liu, originally a cyber cop, considered himself a computer expert, but watching Zhu Qifeng’s operations left him dazzled.
Seven years, every time Captain Zhu worked personally, he felt like worshiping at the man’s feet.
As for the other two police officers who were there for training, there was no need to mention it; they had heard of Zhu Qifeng’s illustrious reputation as the “all-around miracle detective” before they came, especially his extraordinary hacking skills.
Now, seeing it with their own eyes, they were already stunned. If they weren’t still concerned about their image, they might have already started drooling by now.
“Little Liu, where’s that surveillance footage from today?”
“D drive, detection folder.”
Zhu Qifeng found it, clicked, and stared at the screen intently.
Suddenly, he paused the video.
Little Liu hesitated: “Is there a problem?”
Zhu Qifeng applied a filter and performed other operations that Little Liu couldn’t follow.
When Little Liu could see clearly, the video was in slow-motion at x60 speed. At 3:07, the image shook slightly, and the osmanthus tree leaves appeared to stutter, indicating…
“Someone tampered with it?!” Little Liu exclaimed, then reconsidered, “How could they do it so quickly?”
Zhu Qifeng sneered, “We underestimated them.”
Little Liu caught the word “they” – there was more than one person!
“Captain Zhu, do we keep investigating?”
“Of course! Such interesting people, why wouldn’t we?”
“But the deputy director said the case is closed…” Even if they find something, it’s pointless.
Zhu Qifeng shrugged: “Case is case. I investigate on my own. What’s the conflict?”
Fine!
Little Liu understood.
The captain’s intense curiosity had flared up again.
Jiang Fuyue, unaware she was now a target, took a solid nap in her new bedroom.
She woke to the setting sun.
Opening the glass door, she walked to the balcony, stretching comfortably in the evening breeze.
Indeed, a big house is more comfortable.
Dinner was prepared by Han Yunru, Jiang Da washed the dishes, and Little Brother Jiang prepared a fruit plate.
Jiang Fuyue returned to her room to pack. She had to leave for the capital at 8 a.m. the next day.
Knock, knock, knock—
“Sis, can I come in?”
“Come in, the door’s not locked.”
After moving, the siblings had their own rooms. Though Little Brother Jiang felt a bit forlorn, he understood it was appropriate as they grew older.
“Sis, have an apple.”
Jiang Fuyue took a bite from his hand: “Thanks.”
He fed her the whole piece while she finished packing.
She closed the suitcase and sat on the bed, “Speak, why did you come find me?”
