“Wait a minute…” Yan Zhenfeng suddenly realized, “Wasn’t she busy attending training sessions at two different places around that time? How did she find time to work on a research paper?”
Qin Libin, stretching his wrist, gave him a sidelong glance. “Remember that period when Jiang Fuyue was furiously speeding through everything? She’d finish her exams and leave right away. She was probably rushing off to do experiments.”
“Speaking of experiments, didn’t she use our university’s A1 lab?”
Qin Libin replied, “There’s probably no other interdisciplinary lab that fits her requirements.”
“But wasn’t Professor Shen using it at the time? How did she get access?”
Qin Libin raised an eyebrow. “Did you forget about her connection with Old Xu?”
“Tsk, this girl’s something else!”
“Better get the admissions office to send her direct-admission notice as soon as possible. The longer we wait, the more we risk complications,” Qin Libin reminded.
“Don’t worry. I’m keeping an eye on it; the notice has already been sent to Linhuai.”
Qin Libin suddenly looked curious. “Which major do you think Jiang Fuyue will choose?”
The direct-admission notice granted her free choice within the physics school. But the school was vast, with numerous specialized fields and further subfields within them. It was going to be quite a decision.
Yan Zhenfeng considered it for a moment. “I think engineering physics would suit her best.”
“Tsk, do you really think it’s fair to send a young girl into heavy industry?”
Yan Zhenfeng argued, “Don’t you think Jiang Fuyue has the temperament for that kind of work?”
“I don’t. I actually think she’d be a better fit in quantum computing.”
“That’s nonsense!” Yan Zhenfeng’s reaction was intense. “That’s the computer science department’s flashy project. We don’t dabble in gimmicks or opportunistic stunts!”
“From what I’ve heard, the computer science department has already put in a word with the admissions office.”
Yan Zhenfeng was startled. “What do you mean?”
“Besides allowing her free choice within the physics school, her direct-admission notice now includes every major in the computer science school as well.”
“What?!” Yan Zhenfeng’s eyes widened, and he fumed. “The computer science school is blatantly trying to steal our student! And you knew? Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”
“Would it have helped? Could you make the computer science school give up on a talent like Jiang Fuyue?”
Simply put, it was impossible.
After all, the most valuable asset at Q University was the quality of its students.
Yan Zhenfeng was clearly frustrated.
“Plus, you think the computer science school is competing with you, but they probably see it as you competing with them.”
“Rubbish! The physics school was obviously first!”
Qin Libin sighed. “Old Yan, I don’t mean to discourage you, but I have to point out something. Jiang Fuyue won gold medals in both IPhO and IOI, both with perfect scores. She’s a standout in both fields, meaning the final choice won’t come down to external factors. For Jiang Fuyue, it’s not a matter of which discipline is superior; it’s simply a question of her personal preference.”
Yan Zhenfeng pursed his lips, then finally let out a heavy sigh. “You’d think winning gold in the IPhO would be enough, right? But no, she had to go and snag the IOI gold, too. Is she collecting trophies, or running a promotion?”
When students struggle, teachers get headaches.
But when a student is too brilliant, it’s still a headache.
In the end, there was no easy way out.
Qin Libin patted his shoulder. “Hang in there, buddy.”
“I can’t accept it! No, I won’t just sit back and watch the computer science school take her away. I’m going to talk to the professor…”
Qin Libin pondered this for a moment. “You know, that might not be a bad idea. We may not be able to convince Jiang Fuyue, but Old Xu has more sway. Maybe he can talk some sense into her.”
