“A researcher? Probably a university professor, huh?”
Little Tian nodded. “Wouldn’t be surprised.”
“These professors are swamped these days. In their thirties or forties and still haven’t found a partner. Sure, devoting your life to science is noble, but your personal life deserves some attention too! Anyway, don’t gossip too much or you’ll scare away his girlfriend before they’ve even made it official.”
“Of course not! I’m just chatting with you, Brother Jiang, that’s all.”
“Alright, I’m heading in then!”
“Eh~” The security guard quickly pressed the remote, lifting the gate.
Jiang Da buzzed off on his little electric scooter.
Only when his figure disappeared from view did Little Tian exhale into his hands, rubbing them together as he walked back into the guard booth.
Still, he couldn’t shake the feeling—why did that woman in Mr. Xie’s car look so familiar?
…
As soon as the car stopped, Jiang Fuyue opened her eyes.
“We’re here?”
“Mm.” The man’s eyes flashed with a hint of regret—he’d originally planned to let her sleep a bit longer.
“Thanks for the hotpot today. I’ll head in now.”
“Alright.”
Jiang Fuyue opened the door and got out, standing beside the car. She turned back toward him, “You should go back too.”
Xie Dingyuan nodded but didn’t move.
Only when he saw her disappear into the building did he finally turn the car around and drive back toward his place.
…
Just as Jiang Fuyue was pulling out her keys and about to unlock the door, she heard the familiar sputter of an electric scooter.
She turned around and saw Jiang Da pulling up, a bag of vegetables hanging from the left handlebar—green onions poking out the top.
“Yueyue? You just got back too?” Jiang Da parked and walked over with the bag.
Before Jiang Fuyue could stick the key into the lock, the door swung open from inside.
Little Brother Jiang looked up with sparkling eyes. “Sis, you’re back!”
Jiang Da came up behind him and looked at his son. “And me?”
Little Brother Jiang replied nonchalantly, “Oh.”
Jiang Da: “?”
Then he watched his brat of a son put slippers out for his sister, helping her change shoes, and the two of them walked happily into the living room.
Jiang Fuyue handed him a bag. “Here, I brought you some mille-feuille cake—Oreo and mango.”
When they were turning around earlier, they passed by that dessert shop again. Jiang Fuyue had asked Xie Dingyuan to stop, waited a few minutes at the curb, and dashed in to buy the cake for her Little Brother.
Well, technically it was one big piece, made of five small triangular slices forming a semicircle.
Should be enough for him.
Little Brother Jiang had already sniffed out the dessert bag and knew it was something sweet. And as expected, it was for him.
He immediately bounced with joy. “Thanks, sis! I did two Olympiad math papers today, and I finished them in one-fifth less time than before!”
Clearly fishing for praise.
Jiang Fuyue chuckled and patted his head. “Nice, that’s progress.”
“Also, my accuracy went up.”
“Good, keep it up. I’ll bring you another late-night snack next time.”
“Heehee…” So happy!
Jiang Da watched all this unfold: “?”
He’s the kid’s actual dad, right? Right?
In the end, he sighed heavily and went to the shoe cabinet to swap into house slippers.
Raising a kid? Might as well raise a wok.
At least a wok can be used to cook. What’s a son good for? Just to annoy him!
Good thing he still has his wife…
Wait!
“Jiang Chenxing, has your mom come home yet?!”
The boy’s voice rang out from the living room: “Not yet.”
Tsk!
Jiang Da frowned. It was getting late…
So, less than two minutes after returning and dropping off the veggies and green onions, Jiang Da headed back out again—
Riding his electric scooter to pick up his wife from the pancake shop~
Jiang Da: Just three seconds short, and I would’ve caught my precious daughter secretly dating.
