After school in the afternoon, as Zhang Zhenhao walked past Jiang Chenxing with his backpack slung over his shoulder, he glanced sideways with a hint of menace in his eyes. Then he pointed outside.
The message was clear: See you on the field. Come or face the consequences.
He then turned to Wang Wei. “You too.”
With that, he swaggered off.
“What do we do? Should we tell the teacher? Or Director Xiong?” Wang Wei paced nervously.
Jiang Chenxing had already packed his bag. “Let’s go.”
“Huh? Go where?”
“The field.”
“W-we’re really going?” Wang Wei was dumbfounded. Isn’t this walking right into the trap?
“Yeah.”
“But… hey, Jiang Chenxing, you’re serious?” He hurried to catch up with his bag. “What if we get beaten up?”
“Don’t worry. I’ll protect you.”
You? Protect me? Wang Wei looked at Jiang Chenxing’s thin shoulders and scrawny arms with barely any muscle and couldn’t help but show a bit of disdain.
“Forget it. I’ll protect you instead.”
Jiang Chenxing smiled. “Thanks.”
Wang Wei: “?” He actually took it seriously? I was just saying that!
“Don’t worry. Zhang Zhenhao wouldn’t dare.”
“But he was so aggressive in the bathroom before. He even brought his buddies…”
“My sister says that’s just bluffing. People with real skills don’t rely on flashy nonsense.”
Wang Wei: “Then what do skilled people rely on?”
Jiang Chenxing thought of how his sister handled people and replied seriously, “They mess you up.”
Wang Wei: “!”
By the time they reached the field, they could already hear Zhang Zhenhao and his buddies chatting from afar—
“She’s really gorgeous, right? Not just smart, but beautiful too. Total dream girl package!”
“Tsk, you little toad thinkin’ you can snag the white swan? Haozi, not to crush your dreams, but you’re just a little seventh-grade brat—barely even hitting puberty. Even if Sister Yue went blind, she wouldn’t look at you!”
“Hahaha… right! My Goddess Yue is so cool and bad*ss. You better give it up—stop dreaming.”
“Hey, you’re calling her Goddess Yue too?”
“Everyone in the high school calls her that. After today’s performance, she totally deserves the title. No doubt.”
“Man, why couldn’t the heavens give me a brain like hers? I’d ace every test and win all the awards every year.”
“Let’s go ask her for an autograph sometime. Who knows, it might be worth more in the future!”
A bunch of thirteen- and fourteen-year-olds, eyes shining as they spoke of their idol, their faces full of admiration—nothing like the fierce thugs they pretended to be in the bathroom earlier.
Even Zhang Zhenhao himself looked starry-eyed.
“Let’s do it! Tomorrow! We’re only two floors below the high school. Which class is she in again?”
“High school Class 3-2… or was it 3-3? I forget.”
“I forgot too.”
Zhang Zhenhao’s mouth twitched.
Suddenly, another voice cut in: “It’s Class 3-3.”
The group turned to see Jiang Chenxing and Wang Wei walking toward them, now standing face to face.
It was Jiang Chenxing who had answered.
The group’s playful expressions instantly vanished, their faces turning stern and fierce.
D*mn! That was close. Gotta act even fiercer to scare them!
In an instant, one bared his teeth, another raised his brows, and another tilted his eyes—like a live-action “feral dog training ground.”
Wang Wei exchanged a glance with Jiang Chenxing. Uh… something feels off? Did we show up at the wrong scene?
“Not bad,” Zhang Zhenhao clapped his hands, his teeth bared like a chipmunk. The forced fierceness in his face was over-the-top, and he deliberately lowered his voice to sound rough. “You’ve got guts. You really showed up. Good.”
Jiang Chenxing remained calm. “We’re here. Now what? What do you want?”
“Heh! What do I want? Teach you a lesson, of course!”
Wang Wei was startled and instinctively stepped back, almost tripping over his own foot. He looked like a mess.
Jiang Chenxing immediately gave him a reassuring glance: Don’t worry. He won’t dare. He’s just trying to scare us.
Sure enough, Zhang Zhenhao didn’t make a move. Neither did his two buddies.
He simply stretched out his hand and kept demanding the recording from Jiang Chenxing. “I’m warning you—whether you want to or not, you’re handing over that recording today!”
“You didn’t need to make such a big deal out of it. I already deleted it. All your worrying is pointless.”
Zhang Zhenhao narrowed his eyes, half-believing him. “Fine then, take out your phone. Let me check.”
Jiang Chenxing frowned. “A phone is a personal item. I said I deleted it—so it’s deleted. I’m not letting you snoop through it.”
“Oh please. You’re clearly hiding something. If it’s really gone, why are you so flustered?! Obviously, you’re guilty! Fine, looks like you need a little lesson!”
With that, he signaled to his two buddies. “Grab him. Hold him still while I search for the phone.”
As soon as he said it, the two flanked Jiang Chenxing, one on each side, and restrained him in the middle, making him unable to move.
“Let me go! What are you doing?!”
Zhang Zhenhao: “Yelling won’t help. Not unless you delete that recording.”
Wang Wei’s expression changed drastically. He was about to rush over and help, but Zhang Zhenhao blocked him—he couldn’t even get close.
“I suggest you behave, or you’ll end up just like him!”
Wang Wei froze. “Y-you better let Jiang Chenxing go, or else—”
“Or what? Huh? Say it! Why aren’t you talking? Pfft, you can’t even throw down a proper threat!”
Wang Wei finally snapped and shouted: “Or Jiang Chenxing’s sister won’t let you off!”
Zhang Zhenhao and his buddies froze—then burst out laughing.
“Jiang Chenxing’s sister? Who the h*ll is that?”
“Too funny! ‘Won’t let us off’? Who does she think she is? Jiang Fuyue or something?”
Looks like things are about to get good—hhhh!
