The women’s shoe section was on the first floor of the mall.
Jiang Fuyue casually pointed at a store, and Xie Dingyuan carried her inside.
“Welcome.” The shop assistant froze for a second at their posture, then quickly put on a smile and greeted enthusiastically: “Sir, are you picking shoes for your girlfriend? Flats or heels?”
That question stumped Xie Dingyuan for a moment, but the words “girlfriend” pleased him very much.
Jiang Fuyue followed up smoothly: “Heels, but not too high.”
“How about this pair?” The assistant took a shoe down from the display, held it with both hands to present in front of Jiang Fuyue, and even turned it slightly so Xie Dingyuan could see too.
“If you like it, you can try it on.”
“Okay.”
The assistant crouched down and helped her into the shoes.
The man stood at the side, watching with complete focus.
When it came time for the second pair, Xie Dingyuan stopped the assistant. His voice was calm: “I’ll do it.”
Then he crouched down, holding the shoes in his hands, motioning for Jiang Fuyue to put her foot in.
Afraid he might do it wrong, he even turned his head to ask: “Is this the right way?”
The assistant snapped back from her daze, eyes flashing quickly with envy: “…Y-yes.”
Oh my god! Why is someone else’s boyfriend tall, handsome, gentle, and attentive?!
So unfair.
Xie Dingyuan: “How is it?”
Jiang Fuyue stood up and took a couple steps. “More comfortable than the first pair.”
“Miss has good taste! This pair is a classic—both stylish and comfortable.”
Seeing her satisfied, Xie Dingyuan said: “Then we’ll take these. Ring them up.”
The assistant took the card he handed over. Goodness—he didn’t even ask the price…
Looking down—ah, a black card. No wonder…
Since they were already there and it was still early, the two decided to stroll around.
On the second floor, in the women’s clothing section, Jiang Fuyue stopped in front of a display window. Her eyes lit up at the black-and-white strappy maxi dress on the mannequin.
Xie Dingyuan: “Want to go in and try it?”
“Sure.”
The assistant inside greeted them warmly right away.
Even without saying a word, just one glance at the Patek Philippe on the man’s wrist told her this was a big client.
Xie Dingyuan went straight to the point: “That dress in the window.”
“Size XS—just right for this young lady’s figure. It will definitely fit.” As she spoke, she directly took the piece off the mannequin.
“Sorry, our shop is an overseas niche designer brand. Each style only has one piece. We sell uniqueness, so there aren’t others.”
Jiang Fuyue took the dress and headed toward the fitting room.
The assistant followed close behind, almost ready to go in with her.
Xie Dingyuan frowned: “What are you doing?”
“Oh, this dress is hard to put on alone. Someone has to help. Unless… you want to go in?”
The man’s ears betrayed him, flooding red: “N-no. You do it.”
“…Alright.”
The assistant nodded, but looked puzzled—Aren’t they boyfriend and girlfriend? Why so pure?
When Jiang Fuyue finished changing and stepped out, Xie Dingyuan finally realized what the assistant meant by “hard to wear alone.”
The black-and-white blended long dress had a deep V neckline, showing off her delicate collarbones and a wide expanse of fair skin.
The dress was held up by two thin straps. Her slender arms, smooth straight shoulder line, and snow-white neck were completely exposed.
If those two straps slipped down… the consequences were unthinkable.
But that wasn’t the most dangerous part. When Jiang Fuyue turned around, Xie Dingyuan saw the crisscrossing straps on her bare back, cinched against porcelain-white skin. His eyes nearly popped out.
His mouth went dry, Adam’s apple bobbing.
Blood surged, breath unsteady.
The assistant exclaimed: “Oh my! So beautiful—Miss, you wear this dress better than anyone I’ve ever seen!”
It wasn’t just sales flattery—the sparkle of genuine amazement in her eyes could not be faked.
Jiang Fuyue checked herself in the mirror, and was satisfied too.
She turned to ask Xie Dingyuan: “Well? Does it look good?”
“…Good.”
“Hot? Why is your face so red?”
The assistant let out an “ah”: “One moment, I’ll turn down the air conditioning.”
Jiang Fuyue lifted her skirt slightly and walked toward him.
As the distance between them shortened, his heartbeat quickened.
At that moment, another couple entered the store. The woman was dressed flashily, while the man wore a suit—but with a shiny bald patch and a beer belly, looking at least ten years older than her.
The moment he entered, his gaze stuck on Jiang Fuyue.
Xie Dingyuan’s face darkened. He pulled the girl into his arms, shifting their position so as to block the greasy man’s view.
The bald man looked regretful.
The woman at his side noticed, jealousy flashing in her eyes as she glared at Jiang Fuyue. In a syrupy tone she said: “Darling, I think the clothes here are pretty ordinary. Let’s go somewhere else?”
“Ordinary? I think they’re quite nice.” As he spoke, his eyes kept sneaking toward Jiang Fuyue.
The woman’s face nearly twisted with rage. Suddenly, her eyes rolled with an idea: “Salesgirl! That dress she’s wearing—bring it for me to try.”
“Uh… sorry, in our shop every item only has one piece. But you can try other designs.”
“Other? Don’t you know clothes and men are the same—you can’t settle for second best? I want that one!”
The assistant discreetly glanced at the old man next to her. Not settling? More like not classy.
“Sorry, this young lady came first. If she doesn’t buy, then you can—”
“I want to try it now! Immediately! At once!”
The assistant looked troubled.
The man beside her didn’t intervene, just let the woman throw a fit without saying a word.
Jiang Fuyue was half-hidden against Xie Dingyuan’s chest, the heat from him radiating steadily. “Your hand…”
Only then did he realize his palm was pressed against her back, right over the crossed straps, touching smooth, warm skin like fine jade.
A shiver ran from his fingertips straight into his chest. His expression froze, body going rigid.
“How much longer do you plan to keep it there?”
“…Ah? Oh.”
He jerked his hand away, dropping it to his side. His fingertips unconsciously rubbed against the seam of his trousers, still carrying a trace of reluctant aftertaste.
“I-I didn’t mean to.”
But enjoying it—that part was definitely true.
At that moment, the assistant came up: “Miss, do you want this dress? That customer insists on trying it…”
Jiang Fuyue: “Wrap it up.”
“Right away!”
Xie Dingyuan smoothly handed over his card.
The assistant happily went to the counter: “Oh, sir, please accompany your girlfriend back to the fitting room to change. The straps on the back need someone to untie.”
Xie Dingyuan’s gaze flickered: “…Alright.”
Passing by the heavily made-up woman, the assistant paused, smiling politely: “Really sorry, that young lady has already bought the dress. You can check if there are other designs you like.”
The woman arched her brows sharply: “Well I insist on that one! Darling~ I really like that dress, the cut suits my figure perfectly. Don’t believe me? I’ll try it on for you to see!”
The man’s mind flashed with the image of Jiang Fuyue wearing the dress—dazzling, flawless skin, her back smooth and toned without a trace of excess. Touching it would surely feel…
“Darling?!”
“…Hm?”
“I want to wear it for you to see! Please?”
Sensing the situation slipping, the assistant quickly reminded: “That lady has already purchased it…”
The man waved his hand: “Go negotiate with her. I’ll pay five times the price to buy it off her.”
The assistant: “This… I’ll ask her then.”
“Darling, you’re so good to me~” The woman clung to him, eyes brimming with touched tears.
The man hummed absentmindedly, eyes glued to the fitting room.
…
Inside the fitting room.
Xie Dingyuan’s heart pounded, hands trembling, breath uneven.
Several times he raised his hand, only to put it back down again, eyes darting helplessly.
Jiang Fuyue looked back: “What’s wrong? Can’t find the tie?”
The straps were looped round and round, the knot hidden at her waist by the salesgirl. Jiang Fuyue reached back to point: “It should be around here. Can you find it?”
“…I’ll try.” His voice was low, hoarse.
“Mm.” Jiang Fuyue gathered her hair forward over her chest, giving him a clearer view.
She had no idea how intense the visual impact was in that instant.
Xie Dingyuan felt his blood surge straight to the top of his head, cheeks burning like fire.
Jiang Fuyue urged softly: “Hurry up… it’s stuffy in here, I’m starting to sweat.”
That soft tone almost finished him off.
Hurry up… hurry up… hurry…
“I-I’ll let the salesgirl come in and help!” Throwing that out, he bolted out the door.
The corners of Jiang Fuyue’s mouth curved into a teasing smile.
Tsk, what a rookie.
