Chapter 84

“After you die, I will still be the person Ah Qin loves the most.”
Qin Zexi walked away leisurely, like a victorious rooster. Soon, Qin Zexi’s figure disappeared behind the tent’s curtain.
Just the thought of this S-rank alpha betraying the Federation and joining the pirates made Rong Qiu’s countdown rhythm almost interrupted. Rong Qiu silently recited Qin Zexi’s previous words. As the time to the explosion grew shorter, the rain outside became heavier, but he could only be firmly shackled in this tent. But this wasn’t the most crucial issue; he could die alone, but the over two thousand regular army and volunteer soldiers who had come with him couldn’t all be buried here.
Rong Qiu struggled to stay calm, and his efforts to break free from the shackles became more intense.
Still in vain, the handcuffs were tightly locked around his wrists, and the more he struggled, the more obvious the scars on his wrists became. The wrists that had already scabbed over were now bleeding again from the abrasions. Every slight movement now brought him pain, as if the wound had been salted, burning fiercely.
Rong Qiu continued to count down.
Only six minutes left.
Was he really going to die in this remote rainforest?
Perhaps there was no chance.
Knowing that no one would come to rescue him anymore, Rong Qiu unexpectedly felt calm at this critical moment.
Thinking of his life’s beginning, orphaned without parents, but finding a brother who always thought of him.
Now the only thing he worried about was his brother, Rong Qin.
Qin Zexi had once again taken Rong Qin away against his will. If Qin Zexi really had his brother undergo memory erasure, would Rong Qin really forget about him… How could someone become so evil? Rong Qiu now regretted every encounter with Qin Zexi, not once laying a hand on him.
Rong Qiu’s eyes suddenly became moist.
Long-term dehydration made his eyes extremely dry.
The memories of the past twenty years flashed before his eyes like a revolving lantern.
Except for his brother Rong Qin.
The figure of another person also lingered in his mind, unable to be dispelled.
If he had another chance to talk to him, perhaps he could finally say the words he hadn’t been able to say. But now he had no chance. The rain outside poured down heavily, interspersed with bright lightning and thunderous roars. Such heavy rain, even in the rainforest, was extremely rare.
Qin Muye wouldn’t come looking for him in such heavy rain, and he didn’t want Qin Muye to come looking for him.
One more person meant one more life lost.
It wasn’t worth it if it was just for him.
Before meeting Qin Muye, he had never thought he would become so humble for a person, even though he was an orphan, he had his pride. But after meeting Qin Muye, he felt that if fate destined him to meet someone who hurt him, even if he suffered under Qin Muye’s hands, he would still roll happily and joyfully.
Then he realized, he was disappointed in that person.
These negative and pessimistic emotions would instantly turn into bone-deep despair.
He always felt that others didn’t understand him.
But later, was it the world that was sick, or was it him?
What was once unattainable was now in his hands, yet he became fearful and unable to accept it.
Was he worthy?
Was Qin Muye sincere?
Or was he just playing with him as before?
After being repeatedly wounded, he no longer trusted these things. It was like having a bright and beautiful candy placed in his hand. He wouldn’t be as joyful as before; he would hesitate and slowly let go, fearing that this beautiful candy might already be expired.
But Qin Muye was too persistent.
If Qin Muye still treated him with the same arrogance as before, he could still face it squarely. But after they reunited, Qin Muye kept retreating, even willing to sign such a humiliating “Bed Contract”. To be honest, he couldn’t bear it. Even if he had a heart of steel and was determined, he couldn’t help but surrender to Qin Muye’s self-imposed weakness and gentleness.
If he had another life, could he meet this beautiful candy again?
Perhaps he wouldn’t be as proactive as he was in this life.
He would just watch from afar, perhaps catching a whiff of the sweet scent of the fruit would be enough.
Rong Qiu closed his eyes heavily.
He was multitasking, and as the last five minutes and thirty seconds approached, someone’s face gradually became clear.
In an instant, everything changed.
Light flooded in, the sound of rain suddenly intensified, and an extraordinarily excellent black mech broke through the door. The black metal shell shimmered with water, releasing a different kind of pressure in this thunderstorm!
It was his mech!
Or rather, it was the private mech he had entrusted to the U Star Military District!
Was he hallucinating before he died? Otherwise, how could this mech appear on this distant affiliated planet!
However, all of this was not his illusion.
The black mech stopped abruptly in front of him, and only when it got closer did Rong Qiu realize that this mech was not his. From the outside, the two mechs had a similarity of up to ninety percent. But now was not the time to think about mechs. Rong Qiu saw with his own eyes the alpha who should have been in the office building outside the rainforest coming out of the mech’s single cabin.
The light overflowing from the tall mech completely enveloped the alpha’s figure, leaving only the bright outline of the edges. Nevertheless, as the alpha approached, his porcelain-like skin glowed with a jade-like luster in the dim light, his hair somewhat disheveled, the ends covering his handsome brow, but unable to conceal the tightness of his lips.
Rong Qiu’s heart was already in a panic.
He bit his lower lip tightly, the pale color of his face flushed with a hint of vitality due to the rush of adrenaline.
Step by step, the alpha approached, finally stopping beside Rong Qiu.
Rong Qiu could clearly smell the overflowing fragrance of sandalwood, exceptionally strong, and easily distinguished. Yet, Rong Qiu was suddenly covered in a layer of goosebumps, but he still stared blankly at Qin Muye until Qin Muye’s hand reached for his handcuffs, the pain in his wrists suddenly waking Rong Qiu up.
Rong Qiu gritted his teeth tightly. “You need to go! Get in your mech and go now, this place is going to explode!”
Without asking why Qin Muye was here or why Qin Muye’s pheromones were out of control, Rong Qiu’s only thought was to get this alpha to leave.
“I’m leaving with you.”
Qin Muye’s expression was very serious.
He had placed a miniature locator in Rong Qiu’s sachet. It was the most primitive among the locators, but its advantage lay in its small size. Mixed in with the herbs used for insect repellent, it could also locate Rong Qiu’s position while emitting a pleasant fragrance. Moreover, he wasn’t the only one with a means of locating; Rong Qin also had one. As soon as Rong Qin knew that Rong Qiu had disappeared into the rainforest, he immediately had someone analyze the data from Rong Qiu’s mech and, after a whole day, finally located him in the same place.
But now was not the time to discuss this.
Rong Qiu kept urging Qin Muye to leave.
“Qin Zexi said there are many explosives buried here. You must be in a safe area before the explosives explode. So don’t worry about me, just go! The Federation can’t afford to lose you!”
“Nothing is more important.”
Rong Qiu looked at Qin Muye with sadness, his heart already sinking: “It’s useless, I can’t even open your brother’s handcuffs.”
Qin Muye remained silent, but the fierceness in his pitch-black eyes couldn’t be hidden.
Time passed second by second, each second bringing them closer to death.
Rong Qiu couldn’t believe that Qin Muye didn’t know about this.
Qin Muye’s mind was the smartest in the entire Federation. If possible, Qin Muye’s brain should be insured for the highest amount.
Qin Muye shouldn’t be stuck here with him.
Rong Qiu made up his mind, determination shining in his clear blue eyes. With a loud “clack,” the handcuffs hit the metal headboard heavily, Rong Qiu’s delicate wrist was pushed open, and as it hit the headboard, it made a crisp sound.
His refusal was clear.
“You go!”
“I can do it.”
“You can’t! Go now!”
Qin Muye remained silent, his clothing not as pristine as Rong Qiu had previously seen. The top two buttons of the alpha’s white shirt had already been unbuttoned, leaving the neckline open and looking slightly disheveled. After a moment of silence, Qin Muye took out a small bunch of keys from his pocket, with various items hanging on it, including keys and a silver ring.
However, Qin Muye’s fingers did not linger on the silver ring. Instead, a silver key, no longer than the length of his little finger bone, was quickly picked out by him.
A desperate move.
“Click!”
“!”
It opened.
There was finally a hint of relief in the corner of the alpha’s eyebrows.
The silver handcuffs were thrown aside by Qin Muye. “Time is limited, I’ll have to be presumptuous.”
With that said, Rong Qiu was lifted up high, falling into a warm and broad chest. He couldn’t understand how things had come to this point.
Qin Muye’s key actually opened Qin Zexi’s handcuffs?
But upon closer inspection, Qin Zexi’s handcuffs did look somewhat familiar. Apart from being roughly made, they were also made of silver…
Three seconds later, Rong Qiu was already standing inside the mech cockpit.
“Qiuqiu, hold on tight, we’re leaving immediately.”
Qin Muye’s white shirt was loosely rolled up, revealing the strong bones of his hands, with pulsating meridians on top, and there were only four minutes and fifteen seconds left until the bomb exploded. The mech was already fleeing at the highest speed from this headquarters.
Rong Qiu’s legs were still weak, and he leaned against the metal bulkhead of the mech’s cockpit, lowering his head slightly, revealing a piece of fair nape.
He didn’t want to disturb Qin Muye.
If it weren’t for the fact that changing pilots at this time would waste time, he would have replaced Qin Muye at the mech’s controls long ago.
Three minutes…
Two minutes…
One minute…
In the last fifteen seconds, the speed of the mech did not diminish in the densely vegetated rainforest. Driving at such a high speed in this kind of environment was extremely dangerous. Yet, even in the midst of this life-and-death escape, there was an inexplicable sense of tranquility and gentleness permeating the atmosphere.
Unexpectedly, it put Rong Qiu’s mind at ease.
Thirty seconds… Twenty-five seconds… Ten seconds…
With ten seconds left on the countdown, the bomb unexpectedly detonated early!
The shockwave and heatwave erupting from the back of the mech flipped the entire vehicle over. Qin Muye, strapped in the driver’s seat, was fine thanks to his seatbelt. Rong Qiu, bracing against the smooth wall, was thrown around violently. At the critical moment, he was firmly grabbed around the waist by a pair of strong arms, exuding an uncontrollable burst of strength typical of an alpha.
Rong Qiu’s original posture leaning against the bulkhead of the mech’s cockpit turned into sitting on the alpha’s thigh. He was being held by Qin Muye’s single arm, while Qin Muye’s other hand was still trying to control the mech.
But the instantaneous explosion had already caused the mech to lose control.
Without a specific map, there was actually an abyss in front of the mech!
“Turn left! Quickly!”
Without Rong Qiu needing to say anything, Qin Muye had already turned the control wheel hard to the left.
But the mech was still out of control.
Qin Muye made a quick decision and immediately opened the mech’s safety belt. In the chaos, Rong Qiu felt himself being moved, and he found himself sitting in the cockpit of the mech, with the safety belt tightly fastened across his chest.
Rong Qiu’s head suddenly shrank back, and he instantly understood Qin Muye’s meaning.
However, Qin Muye didn’t allow him to refuse.
At this moment, he realized how insignificant his strength was compared to Qin Muye.
“Qiu Qiu, listen to me…”
Just hearing this sentence, tears had already welled up in Rong Qiu’s eyes.
The mech was swaying uncontrollably, still heading towards the abyss in a state of chaos. Yet, the alpha’s voice was clearly heard in his ears.
“Actually, before I came to the subsidiary star to find you this time, I had already handed over all the matters of the Thirteenth Army District. I was about to resign from the position of Commander of the Thirteenth Army District, so my accident doesn’t mean much to the Federation. So, Qiu Qiu, do you understand what I mean? For the Federation now, I’m not important at all. But you, Qiu Qiu, are different. You are the most promising mech designer in the Federation’s thirteen military districts, and your existence can drive progress in the field of mechs.”
Rong Qiu was still shaking his head.
Tears streamed down his cheeks silently, but because of the rolling of the mech, the tears scattered in all directions. Through a layer of mist, he looked at the man in front of him, the alpha before him both sorrowful and handsome.
“No, you are more important than me! You are the smartest brain in the Federation! You should live more than I do!”
Rong Qiu struggled to reach the button to release the safety belt, but his arms were tightly held by Qin Muye.
The alpha was assertive. “Regardless of the outcome, Qiu Qiu, you must not feel guilty.”
“How could I not feel guilty! If you hadn’t come to save me, you wouldn’t have risked your life!”
“How could I risk my life?”
“But there’s only one safety airbag here, and you gave it to me…”
“No, there are two.”
“Huh?”
“This is my personal mech, and there are two safety airbags inside.”
Rong Qiu didn’t believe it. “Then let go of me now, you sit in the pilot’s seat, and I’ll use the other safety airbag.”
But Qin Muye ignored Rong Qiu’s words.
The man nodded and pressed the start button. Rong Qiu’s feet were instantly wrapped in safety airbags, from his feet to his calves and then to his sitting hips. Rong Qiu was like a butterfly sealed in a cocoon, struggling and shedding tears. “You lied to me! There’s only one safety airbag here!”
When his lie was exposed, Qin Muye didn’t get angry. He just smiled lightly.
“Why is Qiu Qiu so smart.”
“You…”
“You listen to me first.”
“I…”
Qin Muye reached out and wiped away Rong Qiu’s tears, then gently closed the corners of Rong Qiu’s reddened eyes. “I hope you live well, just treat it as if I’m repenting for what happened six years ago. And, Qiu Qiu, I’ve always loved you.”
Rong Qiu’s tear ducts completely lost control. Instead of crying in anger and frustration, there was a sign of relief, a knot that had been entangled in his heart for more than six years, finally released at this moment.
This alpha said he loved him.
But it’s really strange.
This statement sounded like a confession, but more like a farewell.
