Chapter 28: Probing

On the patrol ship, Tang Wencen had already requested to go to the Black Gold Fortress. They would return to the capital city of Yars just to pick up the young bishop.
Yars was a theocratic state, although the real power was in the hands of the Prime Minister, their highest leader was the young bishop. The meeting between the two highest leaders of the two countries was considered a meeting between Xi Yuan and Brovill.
Brovill wore a high crown in pure white and light blue colors, wearing a robe of the same color scheme. His light golden hair glowed slightly in the sunlight. From a distance, he looked like an angel descending from the sky, full of divinity.
He bid farewell to the people of the capital city in front of the life ship, hands clasped together in prayer for blessings. Behind him, an omega nun held his scepter, completely closing her eyes. When he turned and left, she followed without hesitation.
The young bishop entered the life ship, followed by Dong Du, Novisane, Tang Wencen, and others.
At this moment, Tang was puzzled. They had only been apart for one night. Why did Clos’s little prince and their prime minister want to walk with him in the middle? Wasn’t the Prime Minister itching to stick to the young prince’s forehead? Why was he standing here with a shy and hesitant expression?
The little prince was also puzzled. Wasn’t he just an irritable cat? Why was he acting submissive and embarrassed, rubbing his nose at this moment?
Something was not right. These two people are acting very strangely.
Tang Wencen slowed down, attempting to let the two of them come together on their own. However, they both looked at him in unison, and Novisane even asked him, “Why are you walking so slowly?”
Tang Wencen: “I’m a bit tired, just walking slower to take a break.”
He felt really awkward.
Dong Du nodded understandingly, “Then let’s walk a bit slower. The speed of your life ship shouldn’t be too slow, right? I want to hurry back to see Hanchester.”
“Our Yars’ drives are world-class, little prince, you can rest assured.” Tang Wencen gave a thumbs-up but suddenly felt that the sunlight on the other side didn’t seem as warm.
“That’s good.” Dong Du sighed in relief and stole a glance at Novisane.
The reason why the two were so awkward, in Dong Du’s view, was all Novisane’s fault. It was fine to propose with ten small planets, but to immediately want him to agree to marry him was too much. Although he was an omega, his heart was that of a straight man. He immediately refused and swore not to marry any alpha. He thought that saying this would make Novisane give up, but the crazy person seriously considered changing his own gender, listing out feasible methods.
Someone was willing to undergo a sex change just to be with him, and Dong Du didn’t feel touched at all. He immediately kicked out to shake the water in this person’s head, but hesitated a bit. The kick missed, and the two collided foreheads, leading to a dramatic scene and the current awkwardness.
Novisane, unhappy, bit the lollipop with a cracking sound, but he didn’t throw a tantrum. The group smoothly entered the life ship and set off for the Black Gold Fortress.
The capital city of Yars was several small planets away from the Black Gold Fortress. Even at full speed, it would take several days to arrive, and the life ship was not moving at full speed.
For the diplomatic meeting, Yars needed to confirm that Clos’s royal ship would arrive at the Black Gold Fortress before theirs. So, they would speed up after Xi Yuan reached the Black Gold Fortress, arriving one day later to avoid overlap.
Because of the awkward situation, as soon as Dong Du boarded the ship, he slipped into his own life pod. However, after he placed his long bag, the door was knocked. Thinking it was Novisane, the crazy person, he opened the door but was surprised to find the little nun who followed Brovill.
“Do you have something for me?” Dong Du held onto the door frame, unsure if he should invite her in.
“Good day, little prince.” The little nun bowed to him and stood at the door without intending to enter. “I am Fina, Bishop Brovill’s attendant. His Excellency would like to invite you to his life pod for tea. May I ask if you have the time?”
“Yes.” Dong Du agreed, locked his life pod, and followed Fina.
Brovill’s life pod was in the middle of the life ship, the most secluded and luxurious. Fina opened the door, and Dong Du, going around a screen, only saw Brovill. He was making tea at the bar.
“You’re here.” After Dong Du entered, he carried two cups of tea to the small round table. “There was no chance to meet you before. The accommodations on the life ship are a bit rudimentary now. Please don’t mind.”
Dong Du sat at the table, blew on the hot tea, and took a sip. “Your place is already a luxurious presidential suite. It’s not rudimentary at all.”
On the wall next to the round table, there was a round glass window, and you could even see the view of space from here.
Brovill laughed twice, also drinking tea. “Why did you follow Yars’ patrol ship to the capital star?”
“Just as you guessed probably.” Dong Du sighed, “I heard you are the highest leader of Yars. Can you talk to him?”
Brovill showed a pained expression, “The bishop doesn’t have real power, and besides, he’s really fierce.”
“Fierce?” Dong Du thought for a moment, he didn’t feel fierceness, but it was indeed not normal.
“You don’t know.” Brovill leaned back in his chair with a helpless expression, holding the tea cup in his hands. “I ascended to the throne even before Novisane. The bishop started practicing at the age of three, ascended at twelve, abdicated at twenty-eight. When I ascended, Novisane’s father was still the Prime Minister. After his father’s death, I personally conferred the title to him.”
“So you’re on the same side, the relationship should be quite harmonious between you two?” Dong Du asked in confusion. “But it seems like you have a lot of opinions about him.”
“If it weren’t for the need to maintain a good image in front of the Yars people, I wouldn’t have bothered to come and talk to you about these things.” The young bishop sighed. “I don’t even know when was the last time I spoke sincerely, especially about His Excellency, the Prime Minister.”
“He’s really bad.” Dong Du helped him with the topic.
Naturally, Brovill continued, with a resentful expression, “Yes, he’s really bad. He’s so tall, every time I give him blessings, he doesn’t even bow. I have to wear specially elevated shoes. Not only that, I have to stand on tiptoes as much as I can. Do you know how tired I am every time I welcome him back to the capital star? Just that short moment feels like I’ve endured ten days of hard labor.”
Dong Du nodded in agreement while sipping tea, “He is really bad.”
“One time, I went to the Prime Minister’s residence to discuss matters…” Brovill sniffled and continued, “He actually had the butler stop me. Can you believe it? I am a bishop, but he actually had someone stop me without even meeting me. He said he wouldn’t agree to my proposal, and I hadn’t even said anything yet.”
Dong Du, curious like a baby, stared at him. “Why did you still confer the title on him then? Isn’t his brother good enough?”
“Comparatively speaking, Novisane is considered a normal person.” He rolled his eyes, seemingly having a greater opinion about Novisane’s brother. “If that guy ruled Yars, the world would be in chaos.”
Dong Du nodded knowingly, “As a bishop, you’re living a really tough life.”
“Ah, indeed.” Brovill sighed, then suddenly changed the subject, “It’s unfair for me to tell you all this. If you have any grievances towards someone, tell me too.”
He looked at Dong Du with a piercing gaze. Dong Du made a hesitant expression on his face, but deep down, he had expected him to ask this question. Since their first meeting, Dong Du knew he had something to inquire about.
“I don’t really have any grievances.” Dong Du wore a contemplative expression. “If I must have any grievances, it would be with my brother, but he’s my brother, so I don’t have much to complain about.”
“What about the people around your brother? Aren’t you dissatisfied with anyone?” The young bishop stared at him.
“In that case, I’m definitely dissatisfied with Xia En.” Dong Du said.
“Yes, it’s him.” The young bishop’s eyes lit up. “What do you have against him?”
“So, you want to inquire about him?” Dong Du chuckled and leaned on the table, asking in a low voice, “Why do you want to know about him?”
This was the original book’s protagonist, and any information related to him might not be beneficial to Dong Du.
Brovill realized he had exposed himself, and his smile became somewhat stiff and uncertain. He glanced away, “It’s nothing. I don’t know this person.”
“You’re pretending again, you’ve already shown your true colors.”
Clearly, he didn’t have much experience with deceit. He didn’t get any information he wanted but ended up revealing a lot about himself. A novice schemer, indicating he probably wasn’t a bad person.
Dong Du reached out to flick his head to make him remember, but as soon as he extended his hand, a dagger came flying and made a clinking sound as it stuck into the table. Following that, Fina attacked Dong Du, holding the dagger to his neck. “Don’t be disrespectful to His Excellency, the bishop.”
“Fina!” Brovill exclaimed.
She was an omega.
Dong Du didn’t immediately think of resisting but was momentarily shocked. This was the first time he had seen an omega who could fight in this world.
It happened to be a probing opportunity. He reached out, pinched Fina’s wrist, and then stepped back, sweeping a leg. Fina jumped backward, avoiding his counterattack.
Quick reaction, Dong Du evaluated in his mind. Then quickly launched another attack. Fina opened her eyes wide and swiftly blocked a few times. After two rounds of engagement, her arms were slightly trembling.
Dong Du retracted his offensive, realizing that the strength and endurance were lacking. It seemed that the omegas here didn’t have any physical restrictions, but the intensity of their training was far from enough.
“Are you done fighting?” Brovill glared with round eyes, angry!
Only now did Dong Du feel awkward. He had been too focused on probing, neglecting the boundaries, and had turned the bishop’s guest area into a mess.
