Chapter 44: Testing

Meng Ruan indeed looked like someone who might seek a dead end. Dong Du smirked, “Then I’ll beat him up later. A disabled person can’t go, right?”
“I will cancel his team membership.” Zhu Di smiled slightly, but soon straightened his mouth. “We’re about to go to the Wandering City. Is there anything you want to do before we leave?”
“Do?” Dong Du rubbed his chin and thought for a moment. “I want to eat a lot of delicious food. In the Wandering City, there’s no shortage of food, but thinking about the Zerg, I find it hard to swallow.”
He exaggeratedly made a vomiting motion, and Zhu Di looked at him. Suddenly, he reached out and pulled Dong Du towards the outside of the tall tower. He was tall and had long legs, walking briskly without seeming hurried. However, Dong Du was much shorter, so he had to turn like a top to keep up with his steps.
“What are you doing? Let go of me!” Dong Du was pulled with hurried steps, grumbling and pulling Zhu Di’s hand discontentedly.
Zhu Di slowed down his pace, “Fulfilling your wish.”
Dong Du immediately stopped complaining, cheered, and happily followed Zhu Di’s pace. The two of them went to the Qin family’s business on the way, a nebula-themed restaurant.
Although space travel was no longer difficult for ordinary people with advanced technology, seeing nebulae frequently was still rare, especially for children who loved the splendid and gorgeous things. Therefore, the restaurant’s business had always been good.
They arrived relatively late, without a reservation, and only the hall seats were available. Dong Du didn’t mind sitting there. Holding the menu, he ordered.
The three-part meal includes two children’s meals that come with small toys.
Zhu Di also ordered one, and while they were waiting for the meal, they coincidentally encountered Qin Yi, who was packing food for Li Sheng in the restaurant.
Although Qin Yi wasn’t fond of Dong Du, upon seeing Zhu Di, he still politely greeted him. Zhu Di nodded at Qin Yi and asked in a low voice, “How is the wedding preparation going?”
“Li Sheng originally planned for a simple wedding, but due to the current circumstances, we had to give up the previous idea. It’s not fully prepared yet, and it will probably take another half a month,” Qin Yi explained. Dong Du, a bit concerned, asked, “So, will we be in the Black Gold Fortress during that time? Why did you give up the previous plan?”
“Little Prince, initially, our wedding was just a wedding. But now, we are using the wedding to raise military funds. This means we have to invite everyone we can and send invitations even to those we can’t invite. The previous plan is no longer applicable,” Qin Yi explained unkindly. “Can’t you take some time to understand current affairs between fights?”
“I can, so Boss Qin, while you’re making money, have you considered teaching your brother some manners?” Dong Du flashed a fake smile.
The two confronted each other, unwilling to give in, but Zhu Di finally tapped the table lightly. “If we can come back, we will definitely come back, Your Highness.”
The restaurant’s manager personally delivered the packed meals. Qin Yi picked up the food, bid farewell to Zhu Di, and said, “General, excuse me.”
Zhu Di nodded, and Qin Yi left under Dong Du’s mocking expression.
Dong Du, holding a chopstick like a victorious rooster, was proud and imposing.
“Aren’t you over it yet after so long since the incident with Qin Yu?” Zhu Di took a sip of plain water. “He’s already scared of you.”
“I’m not mad at Qin Yu. I just think that Qin Yi is not worthy of our Li Sheng. He’s so good at making small desserts, small bread, and small cakes,” Dong Du, while talking to Zhu Di, had his eyes completely fixed on the restaurant’s waiter.
The waiter carried a tray with Dong Du’s three-part meal on it.
Dong Du exclaimed as he picked up the complimentary toy – a Transformers starship made entirely of fine iron, sleek and heavy.
With just a few glances, he moved the toy aside. Eating was always the top priority.
Seeing Dong Du enjoying his meal so much, Zhu Di suddenly asked him, “If I can also make small desserts and small cakes, would you think I’m good?”
“You can make them?” Dong Du looked at him skeptically, shook his head after a moment, “I don’t think you can. Alphas like you don’t have specialized schools like omega.”
“I can learn,” Zhu Di said seriously. At this moment, the waiter also brought his meal. He pushed the plate towards Dong Du, saying, “I can give you my food too.”
“I never snatch someone else’s food.” Dong Du’s face was completely buried in the plate. “Qin Yi’s family restaurant is not bad. The taste is good. Can I order another one? There’s also a blue Transformers toy.”
“Sure.” Zhu Di showed no intention of eating. His gaze was fixed on Dong Du. “Your Highness, do you really not remember anything at all?”
Dong Du finally took a moment to raise his head amidst his busy eating. “Remember what?”
Upon seeing his bewildered expression, Zhu Di felt a bit annoyed, but the anger couldn’t seem to manifest. It was because he sensed that Dong Du had changed. After coming to the Black Gold Fortress, Dong Du had not contacted him again. However, he hesitated to forever remind Dong Du of this mistake. Did they truly share the same childhood experiences?
He never reminisced about the past with others, nor did he tell anyone about his feelings, but now, he wanted to speak about it.
“When we were kids, we lived together for several years,” Zhu Di spoke softly, and Dong Du listened while eating. “You were very mischievous back then, always ordering me to do many things, like picking fruits, searching for bird eggs. You even made me catch a koi fish from the wishing pond to grill for you. Because it tasted so bad, you ended up crying…”
Dong Du suddenly lifted his head from the plate. Although it sounded a bit absurd, he did have a vague memory of being upset because the grilled koi fish tasted terrible. The absurdity lay in the fact that this memory wasn’t from his original role as the Little Prince but his own recollection. He had almost forgotten everything about his childhood, but this one thing did leave a slight impression.
“That person was you,” Dong Du said somewhat puzzled. So, was he really the Little Prince or a fake one?
“It was me,” Zhu Di replied. “Do you remember now?”
“I have a slight impression,” Dong Du continued eating his meal, but it tasted a bit bland. In the end, having a gland was quite strange.
“What are you thinking?” Zhu Di felt a bit helpless. “Just focus on eating.”
Dong Du was now starting to doubt his own identity. He responded with a simple acknowledgment and quickly finished the three-part meal, moving on to his fourth serving.
After filling their stomachs, they left the restaurant. Dong Du curiously played with the toy the restaurant gave him. Seeing that he didn’t want to dwell on the past, Zhu Di didn’t force him to remember. He escorted Dong Du back to the 24th floor of the tall tower and then headed to his office.
Raptor had already retrieved the sun-dried quilt and spread it out. When he returned, it eagerly approached him. “Master, quickly smell the quilt and see if it has the sun’s scent.”
“Did they create you to take care of children?” Dong Du teased Raptor but still leaned over to sniff the quilt. It indeed had the scent of sun-dried freshness. “Not bad, Raptor.”
The small robot, praised by its master, drew a smiling face on the LED screen and asked after a twirl, “Master, what about the flower basket that the General asked me to bring to you?”
Dong Du remembered that he entrusted it to Novisane for safekeeping when he wanted to go to the movies. Raptor came out of the bathroom, its mechanical arm holding a vase, clearly trying to cultivate the flowers from the basket.
Considering this, Dong Du still needed to find Novisane. It was a gift from someone else, so he couldn’t casually give it away.
Together, Dong Du and Raptor entered the elevator. After descending several floors, they stopped at Novisane’s door. Dong Du knocked.
The door was quickly opened by Novisane himself. He was wearing a camel-colored bathrobe with a dry towel on his head, likely just out of the shower. Seeing Dong Du, he happily invited him in.
“Why are you looking for me at this time?” Novisane unwrapped a lollipop and put it in his mouth, not bothering to dry his hair.
Dong Du looked around but didn’t see his things. So, he asked, “Where’s my flower basket?”
Novisane’s face stiffened. “Flower basket? What flower basket?”
“The one the General asked me to bring to him, the small and beautiful one,” Raptor helped answer.
Novisane couldn’t pretend not to remember any longer. He looked indifferent and said, “I threw it away.”
“Why did you throw it away?” Dong Du scratched his little curls. “What gives you the right to throw away my stuff?”
“I was upset. You took someone else’s flowers, and you even went to watch a movie with someone else,” Novisane sounded wronged, quite different from his image as a candy-eating macho.
Unable to hold back, Dong Du burst into laughter. Novisane gritted his teeth and questioned him, “Why are you laughing? Is it so funny?”
“A little bit,” Dong Du suppressed his laughter and said seriously, “But I forgive you now. After all, you’re the kind of person who does all sorts of weird things, and it’s not just one or two incidents.”
“Then you probably won’t mind if I do something weirder,” Novisane said as he stood up. He lifted Raptor and placed it outside the door. Then, with a loud bang, he closed the door.
Raptor scratched the door outside, making a squeaky sound.
From earlier, Novisane had noticed that although Dong Du always scolded him as crazy and claimed he had issues, his tolerance for him was actually higher than for anyone else. Previously, he just thought that now he decided to put it to the test.
Dong Du vaguely felt that he realized what was going to happen next, but at the same time, he didn’t fully understand it until Novisane pinched his chin and pressed his hot and fiery lips against the corner of his mouth.
He instantly tensed his toes, the sensation of tingling and numbness returned, both tormenting and ticklish.
