Awkward Chapter 55

Shoutout to nyanmaru for the commission!

The next morning, Ye Mu was the first to wake up.

When he opened his eyes and saw Chen Mo holding him, his expression froze, and his mind went blank.

The forbidden memories of the previous night flooded back, accompanied by the throbbing pain in a certain part of his body, making his face look extremely unpleasant.

He never imagined that he would do something so reckless under the influence of the drug—engaging in such a foolish act with someone who was staunchly heterosexual.

The shock in his heart far outweighed the physical discomfort. He wiped his face in frustration and couldn’t help but hold his head in his hands, feeling a headache coming on.

What the h*ll was that?

Chen Mo was a light sleeper, and the slight movements woke him up as well.

When he opened his eyes, his expression was hard to read. His young, handsome face was tinged with a faint blush and embarrassment.

Ye Mu instinctively glanced at him, and Chen Mo turned his head slightly to look at him too.

Their eyes met, and both of them felt incredibly awkward.

After a moment, they both turned their heads in opposite directions, avoiding each other’s gaze, their faces stiffening.

The air seemed to freeze, and the large bedroom fell into a deathly silence.

It took a full quarter of an hour before either of them dared to speak. The psychological barrier was even harder to overcome, especially when they recalled how passionately they had made love the night before.

The atmosphere was strangely tense, and the only sound was the faint breathing of the other person.

As time passed, both of them felt increasingly uncomfortable.

Chen Mo’s expression shifted slightly, and after a long time, he finally spoke, his voice dry and strained. “I’ll… I’ll take responsibility.”

As he spoke, his handsome face turned completely red, and he looked unusually embarrassed.

Ye Mu’s scalp tingled when he heard this, and he retorted sharply, his tone tinged with anger. “Take responsibility? For what? Do you think I’m a woman? Who needs you to take responsibility?”

Chen Mo lowered his long lashes, his Adam’s apple bobbing slightly. His tight-lipped expression conveyed a sense of helplessness. “That’s not what I meant. If you don’t want me to take responsibility, then what do you suggest we do?”

Ye Mu took a deep breath and closed his eyes for a moment, his tone slightly irritated. “What else can we do? Just pretend it never happened. Turn the page and move on. Let’s never mention it again.”

Chen Mo frowned, hesitated for a moment, then said in a low voice, “Just like that?”

Ye Mu shot him a cold glance, his tone icy. “What else? Do you want to compensate me? Don’t be childish!”

He rarely lost his temper, but the frustration was evident in his furrowed brows and reddened eyes, giving him a somewhat alluring look.

Chen Mo’s dark, glassy eyes were fixed on him, unwilling to look away. He remained silent, watching.

Ye Mu felt uncomfortable under his gaze, so he frowned, got out of bed, wrapped a white bath towel around his waist, and walked to the bathroom, deliberately turning his back on him.

Chen Mo watched him walk away, his slender eyes lingering on Ye Mu’s shapely rear. Thinking of the previous night, he couldn’t help but lick his lips. After a long pause, his deep, magnetic voice broke the silence. “Actually, you have a nice body.”

Ye Mu’s brows furrowed deeply, and he turned to throw the bath towel at him. “You shameless b*stard! Get some dignity! Have you seen enough? Get lost!”

Chen Mo’s thin lips curved into a faint smile. His sharp profile was handsome and striking as he grabbed the bath towel and walked over. “Just kidding. You’re almost thirty, stop throwing tantrums.”

He walked over with a straight posture, revealing a set of toned abs and long, muscular legs. Combined with his young, handsome face, he exuded a strong masculine charm.

For some reason, Ye Mu felt his ears heat up, and he blushed slightly as he took the bath towel from him, quickly shutting the bathroom door behind him.

Chen Mo raised an eyebrow, leaned against the wall with his arms crossed, and asked casually, “What do you want for breakfast?”

Ye Mu’s emotions were all over the place, and he felt particularly out of sorts. He called out from the bathroom, “None of your d*mn business!”

After everything that had happened, their relationship had taken on a strange ambiguity. Even though it was a curse, Chen Mo found it oddly endearing, like a cat’s playful swipe, and it made him smile.

He laughed handsomely and replied in a good-natured tone, “Come on, don’t be like that. We missed our flight, and the next one isn’t for a while. Let’s have a good breakfast. I heard there’s a place nearby that serves great steak.”

This almost coaxing tone irritated Ye Mu, and his anger flared up again. “Go eat with your sister! If you want to eat, go by yourself! I’m not in the mood!”

Chen Mo rarely saw him lose control like this and found it inexplicably amusing. His thin lips curled into a half-smile. “Weren’t you the one who said we should move on? With that attitude, are you still holding a grudge?”

Ye Mu’s face remained cold, and he said indifferently, “Get lost. Stop pretending to care. If you really want to talk, first drop that nauseating tone.”

Chen Mo’s lips twitched with a hint of mockery. “Maybe it’s your hearing that’s the problem. I’ve always spoken like this. What’s so nauseating about it?”

Ye Mu didn’t want to argue any further. He coldly stared ahead, staying silent as he turned on the shower.

Warm water flowed down, steam rising around him. Despite washing himself thoroughly, he still felt uncomfortable, both physically and mentally, a tangled mess.

He didn’t know why he felt so flustered. His face flushed with embarrassment, and the only way he could vent his frustration was by cursing and arguing with the young man outside.

Even though his mind had been muddled by the drug last night, he clearly remembered that he was the one who initiated it. This lack of control was something he hadn’t experienced since breaking up with his ex. Now that it had resurfaced, he felt completely off-balance.

He kept telling himself it was just the drug, just hormones, but the fact that he had kissed Chen Mo passionately and called his name last night revealed that he did have feelings for him. Even if they weren’t strong, they were still there.

But Chen Mo was straight, someone who had openly expressed his disgust for gay people. What was he doing? Was he jumping from one pit into another?

No, if this continued, not only would Chen Mo despise him, but he would despise himself even more. He had to eliminate these inappropriate thoughts as soon as possible.

“Sister Liu called a few days ago and said that the project in the Philippines is confirmed. If no one else is available, send me over.”

He said this casually while applying shampoo to his hair.

Chen Mo, who had been leaning against the door, was surprised. “That project lasts three months, the conditions are tough, and the budget is tight. Why would you take on such a difficult task?”

Ye Mu frowned, letting the hot water run over his head. “Didn’t you say you couldn’t find anyone willing to go?”

Chen Mo thought for a moment, a faint smile crossing his eyes. “You’ll come back all tanned. Are you doing this just to avoid me?”

Ye Mu felt his pride stung and replied in a stiff tone, “Avoid you? Why would I do that?”

Chen Mo shrugged, his tone slightly mocking. “You’re afraid it’ll be awkward when we see each other. Typical. You gays are so dramatic. Didn’t you say to move on? Why are you still so hung up on it?”

Ye Mu gritted his teeth and stubbornly replied, “Say whatever you want. I’m taking that project.”

Chen Mo’s narrow eyes deepened, his face indifferent. “Still the same. When things get tough, you just want to run away, thinking that going somewhere far will make you forget everything. It was just one night. Don’t make it a big deal. I won’t approve the project in the Philippines.”

Ye Mu didn’t respond. After all, Chen Mo was the boss. If he kept pushing, it would just be humiliating. He remained silent, lost in thought.

Chen Mo couldn’t stand watching Ye Mu overthinking, so he knocked on the door to interrupt his thoughts. “Enough, are you done? It’s been half an hour; when will it be my turn?”

Ye Mu pressed his lips together. Seeing Chen Mo’s urging, he stopped hesitating, dried himself off, wrapped a spare towel around his waist, and walked out of the bathroom.

Chen Mo gave him a quick glance, his eyes sweeping over Ye Mu’s fair, slender neck, his firm chest muscles, and down to his smooth, jade-like toes. After satisfying his gaze, he brushed past Ye Mu and entered the bathroom.

Ye Mu noticed and felt a wave of discomfort, as if his whole body was on fire. His brows furrowed involuntarily; he couldn’t stand being in the same room with this man for even another moment.

After dressing in the bedroom, he packed up his things and left a few items for Chen Mo. Then, like he was escaping, he dragged two suitcases out the door.

Chen Mo was quick in the shower, almost as if he’d trained in the military. Within a few minutes, he was done. When he came out and found the room empty, he could guess that Ye Mu had already gone downstairs.

By the time he changed and got to the lobby to check out, Ye Mu was already at the hotel front desk, settling the bill.

“Miss, I’d like to check out.”

The young woman at the counter looked up at him, her gaze lingering on his handsome features for a few seconds before she replied, “Oh, yes, please wait a moment.”

With that, she swiped the card and reviewed the account on the system.

Ye Mu stood patiently, waiting.

Chen Mo walked over to join him at the counter, leaning his long arms casually on the marble surface. Because they were standing close, their skin made slight contact.

This wouldn’t have been a big deal before—they’d been even more familiar, putting their arms around each other’s shoulders—but this time, Ye Mu reacted as if he’d been shocked, pulling away with a strong look of rejection in his eyes.

Chen Mo frowned, a subtle flash of sharpness and displeasure crossing his face. He opened his mouth to say something but held back, considering the people around.

The young woman behind the counter was young but proficient in her work. In no time, she’d prepared the final bill.

“Mr. Ye, you’ve stayed with us for exactly one week. Here is your 1,000-yuan deposit. After deducting some additional charges, you have 800 yuan left. If everything looks correct, please sign here.”

Ye Mu was used to traveling for work and staying in hotels, and he had always received his full deposit back. Seeing an unexplained charge this time, he frowned slightly and asked, “Could you provide a detailed breakdown of the additional charges?”

The young woman glanced at the screen, her face turning a bit red. After hesitating for a moment, she said, “Mr. Ye, according to our system, the additional charge is for the use of the hotel’s condoms.”

Ye Mu’s expression darkened immediately. He bit his lip, trying to remain calm, but continued to press on the issue, “Two hundred each?”

The young woman was startled, her face flushing even more as she looked helplessly at Chen Mo, then back at Ye Mu. After a long pause, she stammered, “No, it’s…six of them.”

Although it was a simple statement, it echoed throughout the large lobby, resonating repeatedly.

Ye Mu could hardly believe his ears, feeling as if he’d been struck by lightning. He instinctively turned to look at Chen Mo, his eyes filled with a hint of fear.

Chen Mo cleared his throat, saying nothing. His face was cold and expressionless, like an iceberg, as he stared mechanically out the window.

Tch, so annoying. It’s just a few condoms, why do they have to count them so meticulously? These guys are so d*mn cheap.

But seriously, were there really six? He couldn’t remember.

The author has something to say: Ye Mu: D*mn beast! (flips the table) (ノ=Д=)ノ┻━┻
