Awkward Chapter 62

Shoutout to nyanmaru for the commission!

The situation quickly spiraled out of control, and fearing that the villagers might chase after them, Yan Chen hurriedly pulled Gu Huai toward the car, running several hundred meters within less than a minute.

As soon as they shut the car doors and sat in the driver’s seat, both of them were gasping for breath, with beads of sweat forming on their foreheads.

Gu Huai’s pale face had turned bright red from the exertion, and he was almost out of breath. He anxiously urged, “Quick, drive!”

Yan Chen instinctively moved to start the car, but his fingers suddenly froze on the keys, as if he had just remembered something. He quickly scanned the surroundings, and when he didn’t see the third person’s figure, a deep panic flashed in his eyes. “Where’s Ye Mu?”

Gu Huai averted his gaze, his eyes flickering with some hesitation. He impatiently replied, “I didn’t see him. Maybe he left us behind and ran off first.”

“Impossible! His car is still here!” Yan Chen said, his expression stiffening as he unbuckled his seatbelt. His body trembled uncontrollably, and he was about to open the car door to rush out when he was suddenly stopped.

“Yan Chen!” Gu Huai suddenly doubled over and slumped against the seat without any warning, struggling to breathe as he grabbed onto Yan Chen. He looked incredibly uncomfortable.

Yan Chen knew that Gu Huai had a mild case of asthma, and seeing him like this, he assumed it was a relapse. He quickly helped him sit up and anxiously asked, “What’s wrong? Are you having another attack?”

Gu Huai’s breathing became more rapid, and his face turned deathly pale as if he were suffocating. His chest heaved violently, and after a while, he managed to gasp out, “Take… take me home.”

His voice was weak, as if he could lose consciousness at any moment. Yan Chen’s face turned ashen as he supported Gu Huai’s neck, frantically searching for his medication. “Where’s your medicine? Did you bring it?”

Gu Huai panted heavily, his eyes burning, looking as if he couldn’t hold on much longer. He mumbled, “No… I didn’t bring it.”

After saying this, it was as if he was drowning, his eyes widening in terror as his body curled up from the inability to breathe.

Yan Chen frowned deeply, and without wasting time, he leaned in and performed artificial respiration on him, his own face drenched in sweat from anxiety.

Gu Huai, biting his lip in pain, desperately repeated his earlier plea, “Take… take me home, to get my medicine.”

Yan Chen’s features twisted in conflict. He wanted to go back into the village to save Ye Mu, but knowing Gu Huai’s condition couldn’t be delayed any longer, and constrained by the current circumstances, he quickly made a decision. He ducked back into the car, intending to take Gu Huai home first.

Just as he was about to sit in the driver’s seat, a strong gust of wind blew from behind, and someone suddenly grabbed his shoulder, forcefully pulling him back.

Yan Chen, caught off guard, slammed into the car with a thud. When he looked up, he realized the person was Chen Mo. He appeared travel-worn, with his handsome face drenched in sweat, looking like he had rushed there.

Chen Mo yanked him aside and looked into the car, seeing only Gu Huai leaning back with his neck arched. The back seat was empty. Chen Mo glared at Yan Chen, his voice almost a growl, “Where’s Ye Mu? Why are there only the two of you?”

“He’s still inside,” Yan Chen replied, frowning as he pointed in a direction. He was too preoccupied with Gu Huai’s condition to question why Chen Mo was there and hurriedly shoved him aside to get back into the car. He didn’t even bother with his seatbelt before starting the engine and speeding away.

With the screech of tires, the car accelerated and vanished without a trace.

Chen Mo, consumed with anxiety, rushed in the direction indicated. He found the entrance locked, and in his frustration, he kicked it hard. But it was a stone door, and his effort was futile.

Inside, chaotic noises echoed — cursing, sounds of fighting, and cries of distress mingled together in a cacophony of confusion.

Chen Mo’s heart raced with fear. His face grim, he gritted his teeth and kicked the door again. Pain shot up from his nerves, but it didn’t deter him in the slightest.

He kept kicking the door with all his strength, his frustration mounting like ants on a hot pan.

“Bang!”

Finally, with a full-force kick, the stone door collapsed with a crash.

Chen Mo rushed inside without a second thought, and the sight that met him made his blood run cold, nearly driving him to the brink of madness.

Ye Mu was lying face down in the dirt, his face covered in blood, beaten beyond recognition. He was huddled on the ground, protecting his head as he endured the blows. His entire body trembled from the pain, looking utterly wretched.

Most of the villagers, seeing how badly injured Ye Mu was, had backed off. Only two or three burly men were still crazily raining punches down on him.

“Stop! You’ll kill him!” Someone, unable to bear the sight, tried to intervene by grabbing one of the men’s arms.

“Get lost! Mind your own business!” The man snarled, shoving the bystander to the ground before raising his foot to kick the person on the ground. But before he could act, he was suddenly struck in the face by a fierce punch that sent blood and flesh flying.

The man spat out a bloody tooth and lunged at Chen Mo like a wild beast.

Chen Mo said nothing, his bloodshot eyes fixed on the man with a murderous glare, his entire presence radiating with killing intent. He walked over, kicked the man’s knee, and when the man fell and tried to get up, Chen Mo grabbed his arm and broke his shoulder with a brutal twist.

“Aah!” A scream of agony pierced the air, catching the attention of the other two men. They stopped and turned to face Chen Mo.

Chen Mo, with a menacing expression, silently braced himself to take their punches, returning each blow with doubled force, his attacks brutal and merciless.

At first, the men resisted, but as the fight dragged on, they grew weaker, their bodies wracked with pain as if they were falling apart.

Amid the swirling dust and ashes, they saw Chen Mo, a towering figure standing nearly six feet tall, exuding an aura of savagery and dominance, as if he were an elite soldier. He was fiercely formidable, exuding an air of invincibility.

Chen Mo loomed over them, casting a shadow over their cowering forms. His sharp, ruthless eyes bore into them as he clenched his fists, the cracking of his knuckles filling the air with an ominous sound. His face was etched with a terrifying fierceness.

In moments like these, the primal instinct of survival took over, and the men’s fear of Chen Mo grew. Their legs trembled, and they involuntarily retreated step by step.

Chen Mo’s gaze was like a knife, cutting into them as he memorized their faces. Then, with a deep, cold voice, he growled, “Get lost!”

Two of them, terrified, immediately turned and fled, but one dark-faced man, still unwilling to back down, suddenly grabbed a sickle and slashed at them.

Chen Mo narrowed his eyes, deftly sidestepping the attack.

But the dark-faced man wasn’t aiming at Chen Mo. After missing his target, he continued running forward, raising the weapon high as he prepared to bring it down on Ye Mu, who was still lying on the ground.

Chen Mo’s face darkened, and he quickly rushed over, grabbing the man’s wrist and yanking him back with such force that the sickle flew out of his hand. It scraped across Chen Mo’s face, leaving a deep gash.

Hot blood trickled down, following the sharp contours of his jaw, adding to his already fearsome appearance.

The dark-faced man, staring into Chen Mo’s sinister eyes, felt as if this man could kill him at any moment. Terrified, he hesitated, then turned and fled like the others.

Chen Mo paid him no mind. His deep, dark eyes were focused solely on Ye Mu. He wiped the blood from his face and walked over, lifting Ye Mu into his arms and carrying him back.

Ye Mu was gravely injured, his body a battered mess. As Chen Mo cradled him, he could hear the sickening sound of broken bones grinding against each other. Ye Mu was unconscious, limp in his arms.

By the time Chen Mo placed him into the car, his entire arm had gone numb. His heart ached as if it were being torn apart, and his eyes were red with rage. He stepped on the gas pedal, speeding towards the hospital.

The situation was critical, and he drove at breakneck speed, running several red lights along the way. When he finally had to stop due to a traffic jam, he found himself trapped.

It was rush hour, and there had been a car accident up ahead, causing a massive gridlock. The sound of honking filled the air, but nothing was moving.

Blood had begun to trickle from Ye Mu’s ears, and his face had turned a ghastly white. Chen Mo felt a chill in his heart. Clenching his teeth, he switched the car to its highest gear and rammed through several vehicles in front of him, forcing his way out of the traffic jam.

The sounds of collisions, impacts, and curses continued unabated, but they had no effect on him.

Chen Mo, gripping the steering wheel tightly, maintained a serious and sharp expression, focused intently on the road as he sped away.

He made the one-hour journey in just over half an hour. By the time they reached the hospital, Ye Mu seemed slightly more conscious. The agony from broken bones and fractures caused him to furrow his brow tightly, his dry throat rasping with cries, and his whole body trembling uncontrollably.

He felt as though he was suffocating, every cell in his body screaming with unbearable pain, his vision blurred and unable to distinguish who was around him.

Ye Mu appeared to still be trapped in the state of having been abandoned and brutally beaten. He struggled to breathe, clinging tightly to Chen Mo’s sleeve with a pale and terrified face.

Seeing him like this made Chen Mo’s eyes redden with concern. He leaned down, closed his eyes, and kissed Ye Mu’s forehead, his voice hoarse but soothing as he said, “Don’t be afraid. I’m here.”
