After putting down his phone, Ye Mu suddenly felt very tired. He laid in bed, forcing himself to fall asleep.
The world outside was pitch black, and soon it began to drizzle, the sound of the rain adding to the quiet and peaceful atmosphere inside.
About ten minutes later, just as he was drifting into a haze, he heard the sound of the door opening and someone walking in.
A gust of cold wind blew in, making him shiver slightly.
When he opened his eyes, he saw a handsome and stern face.
Despite the cold, the man had only worn a thin black sweater. His narrow phoenix eyes were cold and deep, like the dark of a winter’s night, making him look unreadable.
Ye Mu looked at him with a detached expression and spoke in a distant tone, “What do you want?”
Yan Chen didn’t respond. He glanced at Ye Mu with indifference and silently sat down on the chair by the bed.
Ye Mu, accustomed to his behavior, lowered his eyes without saying another word.
The room was deathly silent. Although the two of them were in the same space, it felt as if they were strangers.
After a long time, Yan Chen lifted his eyes to look at Ye Mu, his voice low and deep. “Did your family come to keep you company?”
Ye Mu’s expression remained calm. “It’s too late today. I told them to come tomorrow.”
Yan Chen simply replied with an “Mm” and said nothing more. His long fingers were pale from the cold, but instead of going home for a coat, he chose to come here.
Anyone could sense something was off with him today, and Ye Mu noticed it too, though he didn’t seem particularly interested. He simply laid there, staring out the window, his eyes calm and cool.
Yan Chen looked down at Ye Mu’s pale, thin face and said, “I assume you know who sent people to hurt you today.”
Ye Mu continued to stare out the window, his expression serene. “So, are you here to ask me not to pursue it?”
Yan Chen’s face remained emotionless. “No. Since they did something like that, they should be ready to face the consequences. I’m not here to do anything for them.”
Ye Mu was puzzled. “Then what are you here for?”
Yan Chen lowered his gaze, his handsome face looking deep in thought. “There’s something I can’t figure out, and I thought maybe you could give me an answer.”
Ye Mu turned his head slightly to look at him, his well-groomed eyebrows raising just a fraction.
Yan Chen’s deep eyes met his, and for once, a rare smile tugged at his thin lips. “Do you remember how I used to say that I fell in love with him at first sight?”
Ye Mu wasn’t sure why he was bringing this up but responded, “I remember.”
Yan Chen took a deep breath, his lips tightening a bit. “But that wasn’t the case.”
Ye Mu glanced at him but remained silent.
Yan Chen’s narrow phoenix eyes calmly met his, and a rare smile crossed his lips. “You might laugh, but I never told you that I actually met him through a childish online game.”
Ye Mu remained expressionless, as if there was nothing amusing about it.
Yan Chen sighed softly, “The name of the game was Dominating the World. You probably aren’t familiar with it.”
Ye Mu lowered his gaze and replied, “I’ve played it. It was quite popular back then.”
Yan Chen nodded, his dark eyes filled with memories. “Then you should know that among the top-ranked players at the time, there was one called ‘Crow’.”
Ye Mu’s pupils deepened, but he kept silent. “Mm.”
Yan Chen continued speaking to himself, “I challenged him to several duels back then, but never won. At first, I was deeply wary of him, but later, we added each other as friends, and through our chats, I gradually let go of my prejudice.”
Ye Mu had his doubts but didn’t interrupt, letting him speak.
Yan Chen continued, “As I played more games with him, I not only recognized his skills but also admired his detached personality.”
“Life is really strange. After interacting with him for a long time, I found myself unconsciously waiting for him to log on, eagerly looking forward to chatting with him, and feeling disappointed whenever his avatar was grayed out.”
Ye Mu slightly lowered his eyes, feeling a strange emotion rise within him, but he suppressed it deeply. “What exactly are you trying to say?”
Yan Chen lowered his thin eyelids and softly said, “It was a feeling I had never experienced before. After a year, I had to admit that even though I hadn’t met him in person or known his appearance or background, I had developed feelings for him.”
Ye Mu’s long eyelashes trembled, casting a deep shadow over his eyes. A sudden premonition and thought invaded his mind, but he forcefully pushed it down.
After a moment of silence, Yan Chen said in a low voice, “Gu Huai is ‘Crow’. We had arranged to meet at the model shop in Modern Plaza. I arrived very early and, unusually, I felt nervous. After waiting for nearly ten minutes, I finally saw him. When I realized that his features were even more delicate and perfect than I had imagined, I completely fell for him.”
After hearing this, Ye Mu’s heart skipped a beat, his black eyes filled with darkness as if all the light had been extinguished. He didn’t speak, but a faint sneer escaped him at the word “fell.”
Yan Chen didn’t notice, rubbing his forehead with his slender fingers as he spoke, “Driven by that infatuation, I always accommodated him, tried to please him, and put him first. I even went against my morals and left you behind during the escape this morning, deciding to accompany him home to get his medicine.”
“But when I realized he had lied to me, I was lost, as if everything had changed, like a shattered mirror. That feeling of love vanished completely.”
Ye Mu was silent for a long time, a rare trace of sarcasm appearing on his refined face, his voice cold, “So, what do you want me to tell you?”
Yan Chen frowned slightly, his gaze fixed on him, and after a long time, he finally asked, “Tell me, what does it mean to truly love someone?”
Ye Mu glanced at him indifferently, a self-mocking smile tugging at his lips, “I don’t know. Thinking about it carefully, those eight years I spent chasing you might have just been a form of obsessive madness. Looking back now, it seems like nothing more than a joke.”
Yan Chen didn’t understand his thoughts, frowning deeply as he sat there, “A joke?”
Ye Mu’s eyes were cold as he looked at him, his lips sharp, “Xiao Han, right?”
Yan Chen was slightly stunned, his face darkening, “Where did you learn that account name?”
Ye Mu looked at him expressionlessly, his tone carrying a hint of meaning, “What do you think?”
Yan Chen frowned deeply, a crease appearing between his brows, “What do you mean?”
Ye Mu didn’t spare him another glance, taking his phone from the bedside, he checked the time, edited a message, and sent it to Chen Mo. After that, he distracted himself by staring at the inbox.
After a long time passed, seeing that Yan Chen had no intention of leaving, Ye Mu finally spoke, “It’s late. If there’s nothing else, you should leave.”
Yan Chen narrowed his eyes dangerously, “Explain yourself.”
Ye Mu’s voice was distant, “I just realized how foolish you can be.”
Yan Chen’s lips tightened, his eyes locked on him, “What are you trying to say?”
Ye Mu coldly replied, “Get out.”
Yan Chen clenched his fists, his handsome face stern as he pressed, “I’ll ask you one more time, where did you learn that account name?”
Ye Mu closed his eyes, his features showing impatience, “I’ll say it one more time: I don’t know. Visiting hours are over. If you don’t leave, I’ll call security.”
Yan Chen’s eyes darkened, his tone threatening, “You’re not leaving until you tell me the truth!”
Ye Mu, feeling irritated, shot him a cold glance and spat out, “I was the one playing games with you online back then.”
