Chapter 79.1 The Wedding Banquet
The wedding date of the Black and White Impermanence had been set for the seventh day of the tenth lunar month. When converted to the solar calendar, it fell on November 11th, coinciding with Singles’ Day. Xie Bian personally wrote the invitations, and Fan Wujiu distributed them everywhere, even sending one to Venus. After all, Cupid was also their matchmaker, and no matchmaker could be absent from the wedding.
The gods who received the invitations and saw the date: “……”
Attending a wedding on Singles’ Day was the ultimate irony for a single person.
However, this was a couple they had watched come together. A love that had endured a long journey of a thousand years was no small feat, so all they could offer was their blessings.
Yanluo, their boss, received two invitations, one was for him, and the other was a request from the Black and White Impermanence to pass on to Thanatos.
Turning to Thanatos, Yanluo said, “We should attend the Black and White Impermanence’s wedding together, make a grand entrance and show them just how stunning my boyfriend is.”
Thanatos: “……”
Why should he steal the spotlight at someone else’s wedding?
But the Black and White Impermanence were his friends, so he couldn’t skip their wedding. He would certainly run into some of the gods of the underworld there, and sooner or later, he’d have to reveal himself.
The last time everyone gathered was at the God of Death’s birthday banquet. At that time, Thanatos had been cloaked in black robe, hiding his true face. Recently, he hadn’t worn his black robe, but with the Black and White Impermanence busy preparing for their wedding, they hadn’t seen each other, so they didn’t know what he looked like. Yanluo, on the other hand, was always showing off his affection in their group chat, posting photos of the smallest things in their lives, yet he’d never shared a picture of Thanatos. It was only when one saw the little reaper in person that they could truly appreciate his breathtaking beauty.
Thanatos thought for a moment. Wearing his black robe to the wedding would be disrespectful to the couple. Besides, he had no intention of putting it on again. So, he silently agreed.
Yanluo happily kissed him, leaving Thanatos blushing.
Yanluo really couldn’t help kissing him at the slightest opportunity.
After spending one night together in the same tent, Yanluo shamelessly started to sneak into Thanatos’ bed, claiming it was much more comfortable to sleep while holding him. At first, Thanatos had been stiff and uncomfortable with the closeness, but gradually, he got used to their intimate contact, his boundaries fading little by little.
After all, Yanluo only ever held him, nothing more.
……Oh, he would also kiss him.
Since their first kiss, Yanluo had added another activity to the list of things he could do to the little reaper — kissing him. Sometimes he’d pin Thanatos against a door and kiss him, other times against a wall or a desk. Since they didn’t have to worry about suffocation, Yanluo would occasionally steal a light kiss, while at other times, he’d indulge in a deep kiss that lingered for ages, leaving Thanatos’ face and lips flushed.
The way Thanatos would blush and look flustered, yet obediently not resist, was enough to make Yanluo’s heart melt every time.
Thanatos had gotten numb to the kisses. He angrily thought that Yanluo was just taking advantage of his shyness, constantly making his lips swollen and red, like they’d been painted with lipstick. But then, Thanatos evolved. His eyes stayed open, his face no longer reddened. He was determined to fight back, not just let Yanluo dominate the situation.
So, one afternoon while Yanluo was asleep at his desk, Thanatos leaned down and, without a second thought, pressed a quick kiss to Yanluo’s cheek.
It was only a fleeting moment, but before Yanluo could react, Thanatos’ own face was already flushed.
Although Thanatos had already grown used to being kissed, he still felt shy when it came to initiating it himself.
……He couldn’t bring himself to kiss Yanluo on the lips, nor could he bear to bite down with any force.
He just couldn’t be as shameless as Yanluo.
Lost in his nervousness, Thanatos didn’t notice the faint curve of Yanluo’s lips.
Thanatos felt that he was very pathetic, unable to do anything right.
As he continued his self-reflection, his gaze landed on the brush in Yanluo’s hand, and he blinked.
He snatched the brush away and drew a skull on Yanluo’s face.
Very childish.
All this was, of course, thanks to Yanluo, who had spoiled him so much.
In the middle of his drawing, Yanluo suddenly opened his eyes.
Thanatos jumped, his silver lashes fluttering with a soft tremor. The brush in half was nearly snapped in half.
The brush tickled his face, and Thanatos struggled, trying to escape. But with his limited strength, he was no match for Yanluo, who firmly held him in place and continued drawing skulls all over his face.
Since it was done with the Judge’s Brush, the ink couldn’t be washed off with plain water, nor could divine power erase it. Only Yanluo had the ability to remove it. After all, Yanluo had drawn it himself, so there was no way he would make it easy for Thanatos to get rid of it. Not only did he not remove it, but he also went crazy and conjured up mirrors all over the room, so that he could appreciate the little reaper’s magnificent beauty from all angles, with no blind spots.
Thanatos was on the verge of tears. He retreated under his robe, unwilling to face anyone.
Yanluo, enjoying the sight, teased him. “If you kiss me on the lips, I’ll erase it for you.”
Yanluo chuckled. “You’ve already dared to steal a kiss on my face. What’s the big deal about kissing my lips?”
Thanatos: “……”
How did he know everything?
Yanluo was pretending to be asleep.
Eventually, unable to bear the sight of his face covered in skulls, Thanatos reluctantly gave in. He poked his head out from under his robe and planted a soft kiss on Yanluo’s lips.
Yanluo, feeling quite satisfied, picked up his brush and began writing in his journal.
On this day, of this month, of this year, the little reaper took the initiative to kiss me.
This incident was once again shown off in the group chat.
Fan Wujiu immediately sent a voice message, his tone playful and mocking.
“With mirrors on all four walls, Your Majesty only used them to admire the skulls on his face? I would’ve—” The voice message was abruptly cut off by a cold reprimand from Xie Bian.
Yanluo: “?”
He privately messaged Granny Meng: What else could mirrors be used for if not to reflect the skulls?
Meng Wan replied almost instantly: Probably some mirror play.
Yanluo: “……”
Once again, he found himself learning strange new things.
On the seventh day of the eleventh month, the Black and White Impermanence were married.
The wedding of Fan Wujiu and Xie Bian was being held in the underworld.
The idea of the Impermanence Immortals getting married almost sounded like a ghost marriage, making one wonder if their wedding ceremony was anything like a funeral, complete with mournful music and white silk.
But in reality, it was nothing like that. The wedding in the underworld was much like one in the human world. They held a traditional Chinese ceremony, following ancient customs to the letter, with only minor differences in the details, but largely similar in practice.
The guest list was impressive. Aside from the full attendance of the underworld’s immortals, there were also gods from the heavenly realm and the sea realm. Even those who couldn’t attend sent gifts. The level of influence a god had could be determined just by seeing who came to their wedding.
Although the Impermanence Immortals were still young in the divine realm, only a thousand years old, and hadn’t made many connections with the higher gods, the respect commanded by Yanluo was undeniable. Even the Jade Emperor had to address him as “Master.” As Yanluo’s direct subordinates, the Black and White Impermanence naturally received respect from all three realms, making their wedding banquet a lively affair.
Perhaps the most unusual sight was a table with three Greek gods — Poseidon, Venus, and Cupid, the family of three. All the guests were expected to wear formal attire, but they were all dressed in Greek god attire, their foreign faces extremely eye-catching.
Cupid, with a halo above his head and a pair of small wings, was happily gnawing on a chicken leg. The blue-haired God of Sea and the golden-haired God of Beauty sat together, one aloof, the other radiant. It made a striking and aesthetically pleasing picture.
The native gods attending the banquet whispered among themselves: “……Are those Western gods? They look like they’re from the Greek pantheon?”
“Did His Majesty really allow Western gods to appear in the underworld?”
“The Impermanence Immortals must have an impressive circle of friends. They can even invite Greek gods.”
“That golden-haired Greek god is just too beautiful……”
At the banquet, a handsome young man dressed in red, with black hair tied in a red ribbon, smiled silently as he glanced at the golden-haired boy at the table.
Could they not invite him? After all, he was none other than the “Old Man under the Moon” of the Black and White Impermanence.
As for him…… he was the real Old Man under the Moon.
The Old Man under the Moon was not an old man, just as Granny Meng was not an actual old woman.
The Black and White Impermanence were not fated lovers by heaven’s design, thus the Old Man under the Moon had no red thread of marital fate for them. The two had no predestined relationship. Yanluo, though able to alter fates, could only modify what was already possible, not create something from nothing.
Thus, this wedding should never have happened.
But when the foreign little God of Love, Cupid, intervened, even if the Heavenly Dao didn’t give them a red string of fate, it couldn’t stop the foreign god’s golden arrows. In this accidental twist of fate, the Black and White Impermanence found their hearts entwined, going from nothing to something. Only then could Yanluo write a line of marriage fate for them.
Although his job had been stolen, the Old Man under the Moon was pleased nonetheless.
While the gods continued their lively chatter at the table, suddenly, there was a collective silence. They all stood up in unison, bowing in respect. “Your Majesty, King Yan.”
It was none other than Yanluo himself, entering the room in full regalia, wearing a crown and magnificent robes.
The gods exchanged glances, first looking at Yanluo, then at the young man standing beside him.
His attire was exactly the same as the three Greek gods at that table. His dazzling silver hair and silver eyes, along with his exotic, otherworldly features, clearly marked him as a foreign god, and one who was extraordinarily beautiful, at that.
He was neither the full-grown form of Poseidon and Venus, nor the childlike appearance of Cupid. The young man was slender and delicate, with features as striking as stars, his skin as pale as snow. He appeared fragile, almost breakable, making people feel a strong desire to protect him.
But……
The sight of him holding hands with King Yan was shocking.
Whoever might have a desire to protect him, it definitely couldn’t be King Yan. After all, His Majesty despised Western gods with a passion!
In truth, King Yan seemed to be subtly competing with this foreign god in a test of wrist strength, seeing who could crush the other’s hand bones……
The gods from the heavenly and sea realms quickly found a reasonable explanation for the scene.
