Death Knocks on Hell’s Door Chapter 83 Part 1

Chapter 83.1 The Other Shore

With the wedding concluded, Yanluo and Thanatos set off for their return to China.

Hades and Hypnos, the two gods most closely related to Thanatos, also embarked on the journey to China to attend the second wedding. Erebus, the God of Darkness, and Nyx, the Goddess of Night, had originally planned a trip to China but were called back to Greece by the news of their wedding. They, too, joined the group heading to China. Nyx certainly wouldn’t miss any of her son’s weddings. After this one, she planned to continue traveling the world with her husband, starting with a tour of China.

As for Poseidon and his family, there was no need to mention them. The cuisine of the East had them utterly captivated, and they had already decided to settle in China for a long time.

When Yanluo realized that Poseidon’s family was the reason he and the little reaper had met, he generously switched Poseidon’s rent to a more reasonable price, no longer demanding a divine artifact every month. The most precious treasure had already been received. After all, what could be more valuable than Thanatos?

The returning procession was grand. It consisted of Poseidon’s family of three, Nyx and her husband, the two gods of the underworld, and, of course, the newlyweds, Yanluo and Thanatos.

What had begun as two gods traveling now returned as nine.

The gods moved quickly, their flight speed almost instantaneous, and before long, they stood before the grand entrance of Yanluo Apartments.

At the impressive front door, Yanluo took out his keys to open the door while introducing the place to Thanatos’ family. “This is where Thanatos and I live. The apartment has six rooms. You can stay here during your time in China until the wedding is complete. Don’t worry, it’s cleaner and more comfortable than a five-star hotel.”

Nyx looked around at the beautiful environment of the community and the magnificent appearance of the apartment building. Nodding in approval, she expressed her satisfaction with her son’s home.

The key turned with a soft click, and the grand door swung open, revealing a scene of utter devastation.

All that could be seen were broken walls and rubble. The room littered with debris and broken glass. A large hole marred the ceiling, and only two rooms on the second floor seemed to remain intact. The stairs and the central hallway had disappeared entirely.

Countless skulls lay scattered across the floor, creating a scene reminiscent of a horror movie.

Gold and jade on the outside, but rotten cotton inside.

Yanluo: “……”

Damn. In his rush to propose, he’d forgotten to restore the apartment.

Venus was shocked. “Was this place robbed?”

Hades frowned deeply. “Thanatos lived here?” It wasn’t as good as the underworld.

Hypnos was moved. “It seems King Yan truly emptied his coffers to prepare a bridal gift for Thanatos……”

But Nyx had keenly noticed a faint trace of divine power lingering in the air amid the post-battle ruins. The skulls scattered about were also a signature attack of the God of Death.

A flash of killing intent crossed Nyx’s eyes. She immediately pulled Thanatos aside, her voice low and serious. “Did that Eastern god abuse you?”

The state of the house made it clear that a violent struggle had taken place. She admired Yanluo’s strength, but that power was meant to protect her son, not to be used against him!

Thanatos hesitated for a moment before replying, “……No, Mother. I destroyed the house myself.”

Nyx grew even angrier. “You have such a gentle temper. If someone managed to anger you, then it must have been him bullying you!”

……Well, that wasn’t entirely wrong.

Nyx was about to charge forward. “I’m going to settle this!”

Thanatos quickly grabbed her hand, his face flushed. “Mother, he didn’t…… bully me.”

Nyx eyed him suspiciously. “Then why are you blushing? Is it not anger? Is it because you’re too upset to speak up? Don’t worry, Mom will stand by you.”

Thanatos couldn’t find the words. He was too embarrassed to tell his mother the truth.

It was then that Erebus, the God of Darkness, seemed to understand something. He leaned close and whispered a few words in Nyx’s ear.

Nyx’s expression softened slightly, but she was still a bit dissatisfied.

Meanwhile, Yanluo was about to cast a spell to restore the living room when Nyx quietly approached him, her voice a low warning. “Young god, control yourself. Don’t wear my son out.”

Yanluo’s hand trembled, and the magic he had just cast disappeared.

The sounds of movement downstairs caught the attention of the gods inside one of the untouched rooms. The door to Room 201 suddenly swung open. The white-clothed Xie Bian and black-clothed Fan Wujiu appeared at the doorway. Without stairs, they simply stepped into the void, their forms like ghosts as they floated down to the second floor, landing amidst the ruins. Fan Wujiu even thoughtfully kicked a skull out of Xie Bian’s way.

Yanluo’s eyes flashed coldly. So these two guys were here.

He immediately sent a private mental message to the Black and White Impermanence. You’ve both returned from your honeymoon, and you didn’t think to restore the house when you saw it in this state?

The sight of the ruined apartment left a bad first impression on everyone, especially Thanatos’ family.

Fan Wujiu looked utterly innocent. We thought this was a new renovation style you and the God of Death were trying. After all, you didn’t have the skulls in the living room removed. You kept it up for several days to admire.

Yanluo nearly exploded in fury. It was only after he inquired thoroughly that he discovered the skulls on the living room wall was the moment the little reaper realized he liked him. He had thought it was meaningful , so he decided to enjoy the skull decoration for a while.

How could his taste be so completely misunderstood?

With a sharp flick of his sleeve, he swept the entire living room into its original state in an instant.

The room immediately became grand and luxurious, elegant and sophisticated.

“What you saw just now was just an Eastern illusion technique, to prevent burglary,” Yanluo said smoothly.

Hypnos nodded in realization. “Ah, I see. With King Yan’s wealth, it makes sense you’d need to protect against thieves.”

The highly perceptive Nyx and her husband, Erebus, saw through the lie but chose to not expose the truth.

The rooms were quickly assigned. The Black and White Impermanence, along with Poseidon’s family, remained in Rooms 201 and 202 as usual. Meanwhile, Nyx and Erebus settled into Room 301, Hades and Hypnos took Room 302, and Rooms 401 and 402 were assigned to Yanluo and Thanatos, with the latter serving as Yanluo’s study.

The entire building was now fully occupied, each arrangement clear and organized.

The wedding in Greece had been nearly entirely planned by Hades and Hypnos, taking a great deal of their effort. A large portion of the underworld’s treasures had been acquired by Nyx and Erebus in earlier years, and they had generously agreed to offer them to the Eastern god, contributing a lot of financial resources.

In contrast, the wedding in China was entirely handled by Yanluo, allowing the visiting Greek gods to enjoy some much-needed rest.

The wedding rings for Yanluo and Thanatos were quite unique. After Hades’ request for Hephaestus to craft the rings ended in failure, he had dug through a pile of treasures and found a pair that were distinctly underworld in design. The bone rings were adorned with tiny silver skulls, which could sense the coordinates of the other ring. If one partner was in danger, the skull’s smile would turn into a frown. It was a truly powerful artifact.

Venus nearly lost his composure when he saw them exchange rings at the ceremony. Was this implying that marriage was the grave of love?!

But neither Yanluo nor Thanatos saw anything wrong with it. They happily slipped the skull rings onto each other’s fingers.

After returning to China, Yanluo gifted Thanatos a jade pendant engraved with a true dragon. He had one as well, and when the two were combined, the dragons formed a heart shape.

Thanatos looked at the engraving and asked, “What animal is this?”

“It’s a dragon, an Eastern dragon,” Yanluo explained, knowing that Eastern dragons were very different from their Western counterparts. He emphasized, “In China, we use dragons as totems and jade as a token of love. The dragon represents auspiciousness. I have infused divine power into its eye, so when danger is sensed, it will trigger a defensive mechanism, turning misfortune into fortune. This skull ring warns of danger, but this jade pendant will ensure your safety.”

Although there were few creatures that could truly pose a threat to them, and the pendant might never be needed, the sentiment behind it was what mattered most.

Thanatos could feel the sincerity behind Yanluo’s gift. He carefully grasped the jade pendant. “You can carve as well.”

“I told you,” Yanluo replied with a smile. “Your boyfriend has many talents.”

The gods of the three realms soon received another invitation, this time for the wedding of the King of Hell and the Western God of Death.

The three realms shook in unison. Was the underworld chasing some new trend? Only recently had the Black and White Impermanence gotten married, finished their honeymoon, and now, here came another couple?

And this time, it was the King of Hell…… the infamous King Yan known for loving wealth above all else!

The bridegroom was none other than a Western god!

Although many gods had seen King Yan holding hands with a Western god at the Black and White Impermanence wedding banquet, no one had dared to speculate on their relationship at the time, knowing full well that Yanluo had always been disdainful of the Western gods. When the gods returned and shared the news to their colleagues, everyone dismissed it as a joke they had collectively decided to play.

But now, looking at the gold-lettered red invitation card in their hands, the bold, sharp calligraphy unmistakably written by Yanluo himself, there was no longer any room for doubt.
