Chapter 8: Alpha with Pheromone Disorder (8)
Shui Que’s stomach pain came suddenly and went just as quickly. During the break, he took medicine with warm water and after a while, he felt fine again.
“Can I sit here for the rest of the time?” He sipped from the cup in small mouthfuls, his fingers pale and resting on the rim of the cup, his lips moistened.
He looked at Lu Fengchi with eager eyes.
Lu Fengchi, holding a thermos full of warm water, was ready to refill Shui Que’s cup at any moment.
He pretended to be indifferent and said, “Sure, what’s the big deal? Let Zhao Anhang sit alone…”
Mentioning that person reminded Lu Fengchi of what had happened earlier.
Lu Fengchi said, “You might want to switch seats. It’ll be less uncomfortable than sitting next to him. Although it’s his own fault for being stupid and impulsive, it’s still a bit related to me, so I’ll apologize on his behalf. It’s about the time he accused you of stealing my clothes…”
Born with a silver spoon in his mouth in the Lu family, Lu Fengchi had mostly been praised and flattered by his peers and even elders. Except for his mother, Mrs. Jiang, he had never humbled himself before anyone. So, Lu Fengchi was actually quite awkward in social situations, and even struggled with his apology.
“It’s not like that,” Shui Que replied seriously, defending himself, “It wasn’t an accusation. I really was stealing your clothes yesterday.”
He leaned in, staring intently into Lu Fengchi’s eyes. When he saw Lu Fengchi trying to look away, he grabbed his chin and forced him to face him again, not breaking eye contact.
“Didn’t you smell it yesterday? Didi you purposely wear a different jacket today.”
“It’s because that jacket had my scent on it.”
“Is my pheromone unpleasant?”
It was pleasant.
Even if Shui Que hadn’t intentionally released his pheromone, being this close, Lu Fengchi could still smell the faint scent of gardenia.
It was delicate, and the wind would blow it away in an instant.
Lu Fengchi’s face turned red, and his glands involuntarily released more pheromones, the scent of soap and lemon mingling in the air.
It was happening again, that feeling—he might actually be allergic to Alpha pheromones.
Shui Que’s eyes grew moist at the corners.
He puffed out his cheeks, holding his breath, and reached up to fumble behind Lu Fengchi’s neck, his voice soft and unclear, “Don’t… release your pheromones like that, take it back.”
The back door slammed open with a bang, and all the classmates turned curiously.
Lu Fengchi’s chair flipped, and he fell to the ground, making a complete mess of the situation.
But he still protected the thermos.
Lu Fengchi quickly got up, placing the cup on the table, “I’ll take care of this.”
He marched briskly toward the bathroom at the end of the hall. Shui Que blinked in confusion.
He had clearly been following the “greasy CEO” trope from online…
So, did Lu Fengchi run away because he was angry?
*
Chen Jian received a message from Lu Fengchi and secretly took out the pheromone suppressant from his bag, hiding it carefully as he headed to the bathroom.
Being Alpha, there were always a few days each month like this.
“Brother Lu, here you go,” Chen Jian said.
Lu Fengchi had just washed his face, leaving water stains all over the sink in front of the mirror.
His features were deep and defined, and after splashing water on his face, he looked a bit disheveled, with droplets of water clinging to his skin. The mirror reflected his slightly messy appearance.
Large water droplets slid down the veins on his neck and into his collar.
The pheromone suppressants sold at pharmacies were single-use injections, designed for quick effectiveness and long-lasting results.
Lu Fengchi took it, swiftly tearing open the package, and without blinking, injected it into the vein on his arm.
As the syringe emptied, a bit of blood seeped from the needle mark, and Lu Fengchi casually wiped it with the cotton swab from the bag, discarding everything into the medical waste bin nearby.
“I thought your sensitive period was later than mine, Brother Lu? Why is it earlier this month?” Chen Jian asked, curious.
Lu Fengchi rolled his eyes. “You know why Xiao Ming’s grandpa lived to 200 years old?”
With advancements in medicine, life expectancy in this era had reached 168 years on average, and for Alpha, it was even higher.
The preparatory bell for class rang three minutes before, and the bathroom was now empty except for him and Chen Jian.
Lu Fengchi hesitated for a moment, then spoke, “I mean, I have an Alpha friend, but he’s not at our school.”
“Hmm… here’s the thing,” Lu Fengchi leaned against the sink, “He met an Omega, and the Omega stole his clothes. Well, it wasn’t exactly stealing… more like… borrowing. And he even touched his glands. What do you think? Does that Omega have feelings for my friend?”
Chen Jian stood frozen for a moment, scratching his head in disbelief. “Huh? The new student really stole your clothes? And touched your glands?!”
Lu Fengchi slapped Chen Jian on the head, exasperated. “I told you, it’s my friend! He’s not at our school!”
Chen Jian’s head was still buzzing, and he kept muttering to himself, “The way you two are acting, I thought you were already together.”
“Do you think he likes me?” Lu Fengchi blurted out, forgetting he had just said “friend.”
“I don’t know if he likes you,” Chen Jian shook his head, “But Brother Lu, your eyes are always on him, right?”
“……”
Lu Fengchi ground his teeth. “Damn it, you wouldn’t understand even if I told you. Go back to class.”
Just as he stepped out, he collided with Qu Jiuchao, who had just come out of the Beta bathroom across the hall. Lu Fengchi wasn’t sure if he had overheard their conversation.
Chen Jian muttered softly, “Isn’t Qu Jiuchao from the experimental class upstairs? Why is he coming down to stink up our bathroom?”
”……” Lu Fengchi didn’t respond.
Qu Jiuchao was leisurely wiping his glasses from behind.
Lu Fengchi, annoyed, said, “What are you following us for?”
After putting his glasses on, Qu Jiuchao’s vision cleared, and he sneered, “Sorry, I didn’t see clearly just now. Does this corridor have your name on it?”
”And,” Qu Jiuchao smoothed out the red armband on his arm, spotless, “You were late this morning and even climbed over the wall. I haven’t deducted points from you yet.”
Lu Fengchi snapped, “What’s wrong with you?”
*
Unexpectedly, Song Qin didn’t pick him up today. Instead, he was sitting on the sofa in the living room waiting for him.
Shui Que kept his head lowered, clutching his bag tightly, and hurriedly passed by in front of him. Song Qin hadn’t slept well last night, and today his schedule was packed back to back. The silver-framed glasses couldn’t cover the dark circles under his eyes, and his brows were knitted with the weariness of exhaustion.
He was just sitting on the sofa, taking a short rest.
“Shui Que,” Song Qin called without even opening his eyes.
Shui Que paused, thinking he was talking in his sleep.
Why was he calling his name in his dream? Did he dream that he was late today?
That would truly be a nightmare.
Afraid that Song Qin would scold him when he woke up, Shui Que kept walking without stopping.
”Song Shui Que.”
Song Qin frowned, trying to make himself sound less stern. “Come sit… next to your brother.”
It was the first time he called himself “brother” in front of Shui Que.
The word instantly seemed to close the distance between them.
Song Qin smoothly took Shui Que’s bag and placed it on the other side of the sofa.
His large hand nervously rubbed his knuckles, the middle finger on his right hand calloused from years of improper handwriting posture in childhood, which had never been corrected.
Song Qin: ”Why didn’t you tell me yesterday that someone was slandering you?”
Shui Que was stunned, unsure of how to react.
Song Qin opened his lips, having prepared a thousand words in his mind, but finally said, “I went to the school today.”
He had intended to visit his alma mater for a foundation follow-up and a meeting about new investment projects. The president had taken him on a tour, and during that time, he also met with Shui Que’s homeroom teacher.
The teacher initially explained the situation as just a minor theft dispute. However, once Song Qin clarified that Shui Que was his brother, the teacher appeared taken aback and couldn’t explain himself clearly.
Just then, a Beta student came into the office to hand in their homework.
The Beta claimed to be an eyewitness and eagerly explained the whole story to Song Qin.
He hadn’t expected that his seemingly unruly brother was actually the victim, and that he had been offended by an Alpha due to a hidden pheromone disorder.
No wonder Shui Que had denied everything yesterday. He had thought Shui Que was just refusing to admit his mistake. But now he realized that he had wronged him.
No wonder Shui Que had never been close to him or called him “brother.”
It was because he had never placed the trust that siblings should naturally share in Shui Que.
Song Qin was worried that bringing up the incident might hurt Shui Que’s pride, but he had indeed contacted the Zhao family to ensure they managed their child better.
”Brother thinks… your current homeroom teacher’s teaching methods don’t quite suit the Haicheng No. 1 High School model. The Song Foundation has arranged a better position for him,” Song Qin carefully chose his words.
”And, Zhao Anhang’s parents contacted me saying their child is preparing to study abroad after the new year and won’t be returning to school. Will you be okay sitting alone? Or should you apply for a seat reassignment with the new homeroom teacher tomorrow?”
Shui Que stared blankly at him, not fully understanding how things had escalated this way.
He didn’t object, so it seemed he had silently agreed.
“Before dinner, an uncle will come to check on your health. Don’t be scared; he’s just going to observe your glands,” Song Qin said, trying to pat Shui Que on the head. His gaze suddenly sharpened as he looked behind him, and his face grew cold.
”How did your school uniform get dirty?” Song Qin asked, pulling at a piece of fabric that had a patch of dust on it. “Did someone bully you at school?”
Shui Que quickly explained, “No, I think I just brushed against something while climbing over the wall today.”
Wait!
He slipped up!
He immediately covered his backside.
Song Qin just nodded. “That’s good.”
?
Has he changed?
Wasn’t he just warning me yesterday about being late?
Shui Que rarely saw him with such a kind expression.
The main character’s heart—like a needle at the bottom of the sea.
Song Qin frowned and reminded him, “But climbing walls is still too dangerous. Be careful not to fall.”
Shui Que answered softly, “Okay.”
Seeing how obedient Shui Que was, Song Qin felt a strange satisfaction from having a younger brother. His brows relaxed.
