The little one angrily finished his complaints, and Ah Wu gently ruffled his hair.
“Ah Wu, do you think they’re trying to make me mad?”
“En.”
Ah Wu, seeing how the little one was puffed up in anger like a little pufferfish, nodded in agreement.
After agreeing, Ah Wu added, “I can deal with them for you.”
The little one: “…”
Just moments ago, he had been fuming, but after hearing Ah Wu offer to deal with them, he hesitated.
He clung to Ah Wu’s arm, his little face scrunched up in conflict.
“No, no need to deal with them.”
After being called “Dad” so many times, the little one felt a bit embarrassed to let Ah Wu handle it.
Ah Wu had been listening to the little one’s complaints all along and understood that the little one just wanted to vent, not really take action against the kids.
It was all just child’s play, and if Ah Wu did step in, the little one would probably be stunned.
“If they make you mad again, then I’ll handle them,” Ah Wu said, giving the little one an easy way out.
The little one obediently nodded.
After venting to Ah Wu, the little one didn’t go to complain to the chief examiner, but he did ask him, “How do I stop being their dad?”
Being a dad wasn’t worth it at all—it was a losing deal.
The little one didn’t want these rebellious children anymore!
In his heart, the little one thought the chief examiner was the smartest person around. After all, even the teachers said so: the smartest person in all of Guan Shan Residence was the chief examiner.
So, the little one was eagerly looking at the chief examiner, hoping to get some advice.
“The problem you’re asking about is actually easy to solve,” said the chief examiner, looking down at the little one from above. “But if you want the answer, you won’t be able to eat noodles today.”
The little one’s eyes instantly became more pitiful. He had come to see the chief examiner not only for advice but also to eat noodles, something he hadn’t had in days.
Despite the little one’s pitiful look, the chief examiner remained unmoved. They stared at each other, but the little one already knew how cold-hearted the chief examiner could be, so in the end, he gave in.
Hugging the chief examiner’s leg, his chubby little face pressed against it, he said in a small, aggrieved voice, “No noodles, I won’t eat noodles!”
It wasn’t an easy decision for him, but the cold-hearted chief examiner pinched his little cheek and gave him the advice he needed after he made the sacrifice.
“They call you ‘Dad’ and take your snacks. As their father, you should also make them give you offerings.”
The chief examiner squatted down and personally explained how to be a father.
The little one’s eyes sparkled as he listened, thinking the advice was brilliant.
“You’re so smart, Big Boss!”
He memorized everything the chief examiner said and found it extremely helpful.
He happily clung to the chief for a while, but as soon as his happiness wore off, he began craving noodles again.
“Big Boss, I’m staying here tonight.”
“Sleep if you want.”
When the little one said he was going to stay the night, it was more of a statement than a request.
The Big Boss had a room prepared for him, so it wasn’t a problem if he stayed.
In the dead of night, alone in his small room, the little one rubbed his eyes and sat up from bed. After checking the time, he realized it was already late at night.
The Big Boss was probably asleep by now.
Tiptoeing quietly, the little one snuck out of his room with very careful steps, heading towards a specific destination.
After some sneaking around, he made his way into the kitchen.
There was a chair in the kitchen, so the little one climbed on top of it and started rummaging through the cabinets. The cabinets held various seasonings, ingredients, and a bunch of other things the little one didn’t recognize.
He stretched out his little head, searching among all the items for noodles.
The kitchen lights were off, but the little one could see clearly in the dark. He touched this and that until finally, he found two bags of something.
He sniffed the contents of the bags, and they smelled a little like noodles.
The little one sniffed for a long while before taking a bite. But without being cooked, the noodles didn’t taste good.
This little one, sitting quietly in the kitchen, was quite hard to notice. At least, the chief examiner hadn’t noticed him yet.
Perhaps the late-night atmosphere stimulated his imagination and resourcefulness, because the little one decided to cook the two bags of noodles himself.
He’d been to the chief examiner’s kitchen before, but only to help pick vegetables, not to cook. He didn’t actually know how to use the kitchen.
“Little one is smart too,” he said to himself.
The little one continued to explore the kitchen while standing on the chair. He had said earlier that he wouldn’t eat noodles, but he hadn’t promised not to eat them at night.
He was going to cook them for himself.
The little one kept experimenting, but after a while, there was a loud explosion that practically shattered the silence of the night.
The chief examiner, who had just fallen asleep, was startled awake. He sat up abruptly, his eyes cold, instinctively reaching for something under his pillow.
But then, a louder wail pierced the night.
The chief examiner: “….”
The chief examiner froze for a moment before realizing what was happening. He got out of bed, not even bothering to tie his loose robe, and strode toward the source of the crying.
Soon, all the lights in the hallway turned on, and the lights outside the kitchen illuminated the chaotic scene within.
In the now messy kitchen sat a little one, face covered in soot, crying his heart out.
His hair was all frizzy from the explosion, and his little face was streaked with black. The chief examiner barely recognized him.
“Little Seven?”
The crying little one heard the chief examiner’s voice and momentarily paused before wailing even louder.
The chief confirmed he hadn’t mistaken the soot-covered little one and was taken aback for a moment. He hesitantly stepped forward and picked up the little one.
“What happened to you?”
The chief furrowed his brows, focusing on the little one instead of the kitchen. He examined him carefully from head to toe, sighing in relief when he realized that, aside from being covered in soot, the little one wasn’t hurt. A good wash would fix everything.
Once the chief confirmed the little one’s safety, he held him with one hand while surveying the kitchen. It was completely blown up.
“Were you trying to cook noodles?”
The chief glanced at the little one and then at the kitchen. He already had a good idea of what had happened.
The little one, now clinging tightly to his neck, had quieted his cries, looking a bit guilty.
“Who was the one who said no noodles tonight?” the chief asked.
The little one’s crying became even softer, and he clung more tightly to the chief.
With the chief examiner’s persistent questioning, the little one’s wails slowly faded until all that remained were the occasional sniffles.
Looking at the disaster in the kitchen, the chief couldn’t hold back any longer. He gave the little one’s chubby bottom two light slaps.
“You really are a handful.”
This troublesome little one still needed to be taken for a bath.
“Big Boss…”
After blowing up the kitchen, the little one also got himself caught in the explosion, sitting in the bathtub. He stretched out his small hand and tugged on the chief examiner’s sleeve, sniffling: “I’m sorry, it was little one’s fault.”
He shouldn’t have gone to the kitchen in the middle of the night.
The chief examiner looked at the apologetic little one, remaining silent at first.
Seeing no response, the little one continued apologizing: Little one will fix the kitchen and pay you back.”
“Big Boss, please don’t be mad.”
Puffing out his small chest, the little one solemnly promised to take responsibility.
Still getting no reaction, the little one became anxious. Twisting his body, he stuck his little butt out: “You can spank me if you want! I’m not afraid of getting spanked!”
The chief examiner: “…”
The chief examiner was just curious to see how this little one would apologize.
He didn’t expect the little one to offer up his butt for a spanking.
Although the chief examiner hadn’t intended to, his hand itched, and he couldn’t resist giving a few firm pats.
After being spanked, the little one skillfully rubbed his sore bottom.
“Big Boss.”
After rubbing his behind, he looked up at the chief examiner: “Are you still mad? If you are, you can spank me again next time.”
“You can’t spank me too many times, though, or you’ll break little one.”
The little one nervously protected his behind, worried he might get spanked again.
“Alright, alright, no more spanking.”
After watching this creative apology, the chief examiner’s stern expression finally softened a bit.
He picked up a bath brush and continued scrubbing the little soot-covered child.
Having missed out on a meal, the little one got a spanking instead. After being cleaned up and sent back to his room, he clung to the chief examiner, unwilling to sleep alone.
That explosion in the kitchen still scared him a bit.
The chief examiner, unable to leave him alone, brought him back to his own room.
By the time all this was over, it was nearly dawn.
The little one, once in bed, quickly fell asleep.
The chief examiner thought about checking on the kitchen, but the little one, now soundly asleep, was clinging to him with both hands and feet. He couldn’t move.
“Forget it, I’ll check tomorrow.”
Pressing his fingers to his temples, the chief examiner laid down to sleep as well.
They’d stayed up so late, neither of them slept much during the rest of the night.
The little one, with prior experience of being late, had set a toy alarm clock with the chief examiner’s help to wake him up.
The noisy alarm did wake the little one, but he groaned and whimpered. When he opened his eyes, they were still full of tears.
“I don’t want to get up.”
“Then don’t, just skip school,” the chief examiner said coolly from the side.
The little one: “…”
This time, the little one didn’t just groan. Sniffling, he got out of bed and rushed off to school.
In his haste to get to school, he didn’t check the mirror and hadn’t noticed the extra tufts of hair sticking up from the explosion.
“Little Seven, you seem… a bit different? You’ve got something dirty on your face, but I can’t wipe it off.”
“It’s not dirt.”
The little one rubbed his face too. Despite being scrubbed for a long time last night, there were still some black smudges left.
Big boss had said they’d disappear in a few days.
“Well, it still looks kind of cute.”
To the classmates who always saw the little one through rose-tinted glasses, he was still the cutest.
After chatting for a bit, they all sat at their desks, waiting for the teacher to start the lesson.
The teacher’s lessons were interesting.
Eager to learn, the little one sat in the front row, listening carefully.
When the lesson was over, instead of taking out snacks like he usually did, the little one walked to the neighboring class.
The kids there had snacks too, and this time, instead of being the one whose snacks got taken, the little one held out his hand: “Give me some!”
The kid eating snacks: “?”
“Why should I?”
The little one confidently replied: “Because I’m your dad, of course! Kids should be filial to their dad. If you don’t respect me, I won’t be your dad anymore.”
“No, you have to be my dad!”
The kids in the other class had already had a group meeting. They decided that letting the little one be their “dad” was the only way they could eat his snacks and make him do things for them. It was great!
Now, faced with the threat of “I won’t be your dad,” the snack-eating kid hesitated but ultimately handed over the snacks.
The little one’s first victory.
From then on, he fully embraced his role as “dad.”
“Give your dad a back rub. I do it for my dad at home, so you have to, too. If you don’t, I won’t be your dad anymore!”
“Pour me some water. If you don’t, I’m not your dad!”
“Let’s walk together. Kids have to listen to their dad, or else I’m not your dad anymore.”
For several days, the little one enjoyed his new status.
Even Ah Wu let him continue.
But the kids in the neighboring class had an emergency meeting, realizing something was wrong.
They had planned for the little one to serve them, but everything had reversed!
After discussing it for a long time, they didn’t reach a solution.
In the end, they decided to avoid the little one.
They begged the teacher to take them out for practical lessons, so they wouldn’t have to face him.
The teacher, worn down by their pleas, finally gave them a rough date, saying they’d go soon for practical lessons outside.
The little troublemakers finally saw some hope, and only then did they start behaving a bit more.
Sitting in a chair, nibbling on candy, the little one watched his frustrated “sons,” his eyes crinkling with a satisfied smile.
He truly was a clever little one.
Now, in all of Guan Shan Residence, no one dared to bully him anymore.
The little one felt that he had conquered the entire Guan Shan Residence. Even with the upcoming practical lessons, he believed he would continue to be the best.
This time, the reward he wanted wasn’t for the people or the army; he wanted a reward for his Daddy.
His older siblings had written several letters, mentioning many times that their father’s chronic headaches were taking a toll on his body, forcing him to rest for several days.
Although he would recover after each episode, this pattern wasn’t sustainable.
The little one clenched his fists, determined to earn the new reward before his next trip home.
“Ah Wu, can’t we be together for this practical lesson?”
The teacher had said that they could form teams for this lesson.
“I’m going with the Big Boss.”
Ah Wu’s practical lessons were always led by the Big Boss himself. He hadn’t liked this arrangement in the past, but this time, he agreed willingly.
He had his own reward in mind for this lesson.
The day before the lesson, the little one stuffed his pockets with candy, chewing on some as he greeted the kids from the neighboring class.
“Good luck with your trip! When you get back, you better bring me some candy.”
One of the kids from the other class, seeing the little one’s puffed-out cheeks as he chewed, couldn’t resist saying, “I advise you not to eat so much candy.”
That was all he said.
The little one looked at him, not quite understanding. After mulling it over, he thought the kid was trying to scare him.
So, he unwrapped two more pieces of candy and stuffed them into his already full mouth, his cheeks bulging even more.
“I’ll eat all the candy I want! I can eat three at once!”
The kid: “…”
The kid: “Hmph!”
He had only meant to warn the little one that eating candy at that pace would rot his teeth.
But the little one clearly misunderstood his intentions, and the kid, feeling frustrated, walked off in a huff.
The little one stared after him, completely puzzled.
“Little one, come pack your bags.”
Ah Wu called out, bringing the little one back.
Even though Ah Wu wasn’t partnering with him, he still packed all the essentials the little one would need for the trip.
“Be careful out there, and if there’s danger, hide behind the teacher.”
“Got it!”
