Shui Shui had never been to Guan Shan Residence and didn’t know much about the scholars or the Big Boss there.
“Will someone at Guan Shan Residence be able to heal him?”
“Find the Big Boss; he’ll have a solution.”
In the little one’s eyes, the Big Boss could do anything.
Shui Shui hesitated but then nodded.
The little one thought for a moment and added, “Make sure to send me a letter when you do.”
Once he got the letter, he’d find a way to get to Guan Shan Residence.
Shui Shui nodded again.
After spending a long time in Shui Shui’s courtyard, the little one finally left.
He went to see Emperor Ling and Noble Consort Yi. Even though he didn’t think his trip would be too dangerous, he still wanted to stay close to his father and mother before leaving.
The palace was abuzz with preparations for the Second Princess’s wedding, so the little one’s own busyness didn’t seem out of the ordinary.
On the night before the wedding, the little one insisted on sleeping with his father and mother.
He nestled in between them, snuggling up to his father and mother.
“Daddy, Mother.”
Lying there, his big eyes blinked as he asked in his soft, sweet voice, “Do you ever want to spank me?”
Emperor Ling: “?”
Noble Consort Yi: “?”
Both of them were puzzled. “Why would we want to spank you?”
The little one, about to carry out his big plan, figured that if they knew about it, they’d definitely want to punish him.
But by the time they found out tomorrow, he’d be gone, and they wouldn’t be able to.
So, the considerate little one thought they might want to spank him in advance.
He scrambled up, stuck out his little behind, and invited them: “Go ahead, spank me twice. I won’t cry!”
He stuck out his bottom, ready for a spanking. The two adults didn’t want to hit him at all, but after his relentless insistence, they finally gave him a light pat.
Once he’d been spanked, the little one happily laid back down.
After getting his spanking, the little one was satisfied. He closed his eyes and quickly fell asleep.
As he drifted off, Emperor Ling turned to Noble Consort Yi and asked, “What is this little guy up to?”
Noble Consort Yi replied calmly, “I’m not sure.”
Emperor Ling paused at her words, deciding to drop the subject and ask something else instead.
“Yi Er, you came in. Are you angry with me?”
“No.”
In the past, if Noble Consort Yi was upset, she would show it directly. But now, she had begun to conceal her feelings toward Emperor Ling.
In the dark, Emperor Ling let out a soft sigh, reaching out to hold her soft and cold hand.
“Yi Er, if you have any dissatisfaction with me, you can always tell me. In this palace, you and Little Seven are the ones I care about the most.”
His words reached Noble Consort Yi’s ears. She thought to herself, if he had said this even just half a month ago, she would have been moved. But now, all she felt was a bit of irony.
Did Emperor Ling truly love her?
He claimed to love her, yet he was plotting against her entire family.
Initially, she didn’t want to give him any face. But just then, their little son, who always moved restlessly in his sleep, placed his chubby little hand on her.
The touch of that small hand brought her back to her senses.
She might resent and hate Emperor Ling, but she still had Little Seven. She couldn’t really start a fight with him, as Little Seven needed his father.
Noble Consort Yi closed her eyes, calming herself down bit by bit.
“I heard from Lu Guang last time that you summoned Beauty Yu again?”
“I only summoned her to play music and relieve my boredom,” Emperor Ling explained with a smile, thinking that Noble Consort Yi was jealous of the tactful Beauty Yu.
“Next time, I won’t summon her,” he said.
Noble Consort Yi merely responded with a soft “hmm.” The two of them exchanged a few more quiet words before settling down for the night.
That night, their little son slept soundly.
The next morning, he got up extra early. After rising, he even went to the small kitchen, lighting the fire himself, and with the help of the cook, prepared breakfast for both Emperor Ling and Noble Consort Yi.
Although his meddling made the meal far less delicious than usual, both Emperor Ling and Noble Consort Yi were pleased.
After breakfast, everyone began to prepare for the day.
With a red veil covering her face, Princess Ling Xuan climbed into the bridal sedan chair and left the palace.
The procession was grand, and inside the sedan, Ling Xuan tightly gripped her wedding cloth, her delicate face streaked with tears.
From beginning to end, she had never protested the marriage. She knew too well that there was no other choice for her.
As Ling Xuan’s sedan left the palace, a small white figure slipped out under the carriage, following along.
As the carriage continued its journey, the small white figure pawed at the underside, biding its time and waiting for the right moment.
While waiting, he wondered when the letters he had written would be discovered.
He had written to his father, mother, and all his siblings.
Perhaps it was his good luck, or maybe his strong determination, but his plan unfolded smoothly.
As night fell, he found his chance.
Of course, he couldn’t carry out the plan all by himself. He had already arranged for Ling Xuan’s two closest maids and her nursemaid to help.
These three, who were part of Ling Xuan’s wedding entourage, didn’t want to see her truly marry the old emperor of Great Qing.
Turning back into his human form, he reassured them.
“I have connections in Great Qing Palace.”
The little one consoled them, “Just take my sister away. I’ll be fine!”
“My second sister and I are both daddy’s children. Once I’m in Great Qing, they won’t harm me.”
With the help of the maids and nursemaid, the little one created a diversion, hiding his sister while she was unconscious. She would wake up in half an hour.
He left someone with her to look after her.
As for himself, he climbed into the bridal sedan.
As he sat inside, replaying the events in his mind, a slight frown appeared on his delicate little face.
He wasn’t sure why, but everything seemed to be going too smoothly. Even when things nearly fell apart, luck had been on his side.
“Ah Wu was right,” he thought, serious for a moment.
“Zai Zai is an auspicious rui beast.”
Convinced of his good fortune, he sat calmly in the sedan, getting closer and closer to Great Qing.
Meanwhile, back in the palace of Qi Dynasty, his letters had finally been discovered.
Emperor Ling nearly fainted when he read them.
Noble Consort Yi was equally furious, causing quite the scene in Fenghua Palace.
“Who gave him the nerve to do this!”
Both Emperor Ling and Noble Consort Yi were livid, but anger was pointless now. Based on the timing, the child had likely already reached Great Qing.
“If the Emperor of Great Qing finds out it’s Little Seven in the sedan, and gets angry—”
“He won’t.”
Though furious, Emperor Ling had quickly regained his composure. He pressed his temples and thought hard.
“Little Seven said he has protection in Great Qing,” Emperor Ling reassured himself, though he couldn’t be certain how reliable this protection would be.
“Yi Er, it’s happened. Now we need to think of a way to deal with it.”
He realized it was too late to send Ling Xuan and bring back Little Seven.
By the time he sent people over, the Emperor of Great Qing would likely have already seen Little Seven.
“Where is Little Xu? Call him here.”
Emperor Ling thought of Murong Xu and immediately ordered someone to summon him.
Before long, Murong Xu arrived.
Without wasting any time, Emperor Ling quickly briefed him on the situation and sent him on horseback to Great Qing.
“You are going there to ensure Little Seven’s safety. If the Emperor of Great Qing intends to harm him, bring him back immediately.”
“Yes, Your Majesty.”
Murong Xu accepted the order and left at once, not even stopping by his residence to pack. He sent word to his household and then hurried on horseback toward Great Qing.
As Murong Xu sped off, Noble Consort Yi remained anxious.
Although Great Qing was a powerful nation, the reigning old emperor was not a kind man. His vast harem was filled with complicated relationships. She couldn’t predict what might happen to her Little Seven once he arrived there.
Worried to the point of becoming ill, Noble Consort Yi was helpless.
The disturbance between Noble Consort Yi and Emperor Ling soon reached the small temple.
Upon hearing that everything had gone smoothly, the Empress, who was fingering her prayer beads, finally relaxed a little.
“Your Majesty, this time it was the little prince himself who walked into his doom,” said a servant with a kindly face, offering the Empress a cup of tea to moisten her throat. She continued softly, “His Majesty’s health seems to be getting worse by the day. Your Majesty, you—”
Before she could finish, the Empress did not take the offered tea. Alarmed, the servant knelt down and slapped herself, confessing, “Your Majesty, I misspoke.”
Inside the small temple, the Empress said nothing in response.
Time ticked by, and the tense atmosphere in the Qi Dynasty Palace grew heavier. Every palace servant moved cautiously.
The princes and princesses were all in a foul mood.
Little Ling Fu, the chubby prince, stared at the letter in his hand, still unable to believe it.
“Little Seven is so small, and he’s a boy! What was he thinking, stepping in to replace Second Sister for the wedding!”
When the old Emperor of Great Qing pulls back the sedan curtain and lifts the veil only to see a little one’s face, he’ll probably be in shock.
Ling Fu was anxious, pacing in circles and starting to ramble incoherently, “I’m at least older than Little Seven. If anyone had to replace her, it should’ve been me!”
Watching Ling Fu pace for what seemed like forever, Consort Ru’s mouth twitched. She finally spoke, “With your size, you’d probably break your sister’s sedan chair just by sitting in it.”
“Enough. Stop pacing around. You’re making me dizzy. Your royal father is already working on a solution for Little Seven. Worrying here won’t help.”
Ling Fu knew that his pacing wouldn’t fix anything, but he couldn’t stop himself from feeling concerned.
And it wasn’t just Ling Fu who was worried. The eldest and fourth princes were equally troubled.
Upon learning the news, both of them did the same thing—they went to see their mothers.
In the Palace of Consort De, the fourth prince repeatedly asked his mother, “Royal Mother, did you help Little Seven with this plan?”
Since being framed by Consort Shu last time, Consort De’s temperament had changed significantly. She now lived a low-key life and rarely left her palace.
Facing her son’s inquiry, Consort De didn’t react with anger like she used to. Instead, she replied truthfully, “I didn’t get involved in his plan.”
Without Consort Shu’s interference, Consort De had grown much more clear-headed about many things. Most importantly, she was acutely aware of how much Emperor Ling cared for Little Seven.
If she had helped Little Seven leave, Emperor Ling would certainly find out, and he would not forgive her. She couldn’t let her children suffer because of her actions anymore.
The fourth prince scrutinized his mother, believing she wasn’t lying.
If his mother hadn’t been involved, there was only one person left in the palace capable of helping Little Seven escape.
“Royal Mother, I’ve told you before, targeting Little Seven is just forcing my hand.”
Meanwhile, in the small temple, the eldest prince approached the Empress directly without any pleasantries.
“Royal Mother, if anything happens to Little Seven in Great Qing, I will shave my head and become a monk.”
The Empress was stunned into silence, her prepared words catching in her throat.
Without waiting for her response, the eldest prince turned and left.
“Ling Chen, stop right there!” the Empress called out, her face turning cold. “It was his own decision to leave the palace, and it was his plan. Why are you blaming me without understanding the situation?”
At first glance, her words seemed reasonable. But Ling Chen knew better.
“This was Little Seven’s plan, yes, but there’s no way he could have done it alone. Even with Ling Xuan’s maids and nursemaid helping him, he couldn’t have pulled it off so flawlessly.”
“Royal Mother, I meant what I said. If Little Seven meets with any harm because of you, I will keep my promise.”
This time, Ling Chen didn’t stop, no matter how much his mother yelled after him.
The entire palace was in an uproar over one little one.
Meanwhile, in Great Qing, the bridal procession had arrived at the palace.
Initially, the Emperor of Great Qing had planned to greet the bride himself, but he was delayed by urgent matters. While he was occupied, the little one, dressed in red with a wedding veil, stepped out of the sedan and entered the room adorned with wedding decorations.
As he disembarked, there was a brief, collective pause in the surrounding breaths.
Moments later, quiet murmurs began to spread.
“Doesn’t the Second Princess look a bit like a child? Wasn’t she supposed to be of marriage age?”
“What’s going on with the Second Princess?”
“I don’t know what’s going on, but the Emperor will surely be disappointed when he sees her.”
“I heard rumors that the Second Princess is supposed to be quite beautiful. But judging by her figure, she doesn’t seem to match that description at all.”
“Exactly. Those rumors sure were misleading.”
None of the onlookers had ever seen the Second Princess of Qi Dynasty. Now, looking at the little figure with the wedding veil, they couldn’t help but feel that the reality fell far short of the rumor.
They were shocked by what they saw but didn’t dare question it. The little one entered the room with the veil still on and slammed the door shut.
It had been an exhausting journey for the little one.
Someone knocked on the door, intending to come in and serve, but the little one squeezed his voice and said softly, “No one is allowed in. I need to rest!”
The palace attendants at the door were speechless.
The voice sounded so tender!
Confused, the palace attendants stood guard outside without entering. One of the more experienced attendants started whispering, “Before I entered the palace, I heard that in the common folk, some people are born with a condition that stunts their growth. No matter how old they get, they remain child-sized. Usually, families abandon such children. Who would have thought the second princess of Qi Dynasty is one of them.”
The little one inside didn’t care at all about the attendants’ speculations. He took off the red veil, pulled a stool to the window, and started sneaking peeks outside.
There were still a lot of people outside.
The little one was patient and kept waiting.
After a long while, he still didn’t see the Emperor of Qing arrive. Instead, the crowd of palace attendants around gradually dispersed.
The Emperor didn’t come all day and night.
The few attendants left outside understood the situation. The Emperor wasn’t interested. The second princess had arrived, but there was no official title, no favor—she wasn’t even given any recognition.
While the Emperor ignored the situation, the little one began sneaking out through the window. He had come here with a mission to find someone!
The tiny figure began exploring the Qing Dynasty’s harem.
Meanwhile, in the Eastern Palace of Qing, the Crown Prince, Huo Qinwu, had also heard the news about the second princess. The more he listened, the more he frowned.
The little one had told him about the second princess, and he had done some investigating himself. The second princess’s appearance was perfectly normal—she was even a beauty.
How could she be the disabled person the attendants were talking about?
Huo Qinwu had arranged for the new Empress and her sister to create some trouble for the Emperor, keeping him busy for the time being, so he couldn’t spare any attention for the second princess.
He had arranged for someone to handle these matters and wasn’t in a rush to meet the Second Princess himself. However, as he listened to the reports, he began to feel that something was off.
“What is the Second Princess doing now?”
“She just went to sleep.”
Huo Qinwu frowned, deciding to wait until the Second Princess woke up to check on her.
While he was still frowning in thought, on the other side, the little one had been sneaking around, eating metaphorical “melons” as he watched the palace gossip unfold.
In the Cold Palace, one consort was embracing another. In other palaces, consorts were throwing tantrums, speaking ill of others, or plotting how to win the emperor’s favor.
In short, the little one had seen so much gossip that his paws were getting numb from all the “melon-eating.”
He wandered around and eventually reached a quiet courtyard. This courtyard was in a prime location, but it was very peaceful. Inside, there was an elderly woman with white hair, two mute palace maids, and no one else.
