“Little Seven, Little Seven, wait for me!”
Seeing his younger brother dash out, Ling Fu quickly turned to chase after him.
But Little Seven was too fast, and Ling Fu couldn’t catch up.
“Jiang Yan, Chen Zhou, did you catch up to Little Seven?”
“Little Seven ran off? We were just called away by the adults.”
After the incident with Ling Ti, the adults naturally wanted to ask what happened. Once they finished answering, they rushed back to check on Little Seven.
“Little Seven was taking a bath earlier, but he kept saying the water was too hot, and then he ran off,” Ling Fu explained as he anxiously continued searching for him.
“Let’s split up to find him!”
Jiang Yan instructed, and he, Chen Zhou, and Lu Zheng each went in different directions to look for Little Seven.
While they were searching for the little guy, he was also looking for someone—his mother or someone from the Murong family!
“Have you seen Noble Consort Yi?”
Little Seven, holding his small hands over his ears, stopped a passing servant and asked.
“I have.”
The servant, with lowered eyes and a round, honest-looking face, replied, “Noble Consort Yi is over there, waiting for the Duchess.”
Little Seven’s little head was spinning with confusion, but he nodded, and despite being in a rush, he didn’t forget to thank the servant for the directions.
After saying thank you, he continued running, still covering his ears.
Beneath his chubby little hands, what were once human ears had started to become a bit fuzzy.
If this kept up, he wouldn’t be able to hide his ears anymore!
Determined not to reveal his ears, the little guy focused entirely on finding Noble Consort Yi.
He ran and ran, but before he reached the place the maid had pointed out, he spotted the lotus pond.
There was water in the pond, and it looked cool and refreshing.
With a frown, Little Seven made a decision. The next second, plop, he jumped into the pond.
As he jumped, he muttered to himself, “There’s no time!”
There was no time to find his mother anymore!
No sooner had the little guy jumped into the water than his shadow guards followed right after him.
They reacted swiftly, but even so, in the brief moment after entering the water, they were already confused.
In just a second or two, the little prince had disappeared.
The shadow guards searched the entire pond but found no sign of the little prince. All they caught was a glimpse of a small, wet white kitten scampering away from the water’s edge.
A wet kitten didn’t catch their attention, as they were focused on finding the little prince.
While the shadow guards searched in the water, the little fluff who had crawled out was filled with despair.
In such a short time, he had already transformed back!
After changing back, the little dumpling tried desperately to transform again, but no matter how much he squirmed in frustration, he couldn’t return to his human form.
Not knowing how long he’d stay in this form, the little dumpling ran for a while before his paws finally gave out, and he collapsed on the grass.
He was panicked and exhausted, drained of energy.
The little dumpling laid in a corner of the grass, resting while blinking his large black eyes, wondering whether he should look for his mother or for some water first.
Both his mother and Shui Shui were trustworthy options.
As he thought of them, his wet little body shook itself instinctively, trying to dry his fur.
Warm sunlight bathed the little fluff, and though he hadn’t fully dried off yet, his little ears twitched at the sound of approaching footsteps.
The moment he heard the footsteps, the little fluff sprang to attention, paws ready to bolt.
He ran fast, and even though the footsteps behind him quickened, they still couldn’t catch him.
After running for what felt like a long time, the little dumpling corrected his course based on the servant’s earlier directions and slowly closed in on his destination.
Just as he was about to arrive, a sudden thought flashed through his mind—his classmates and mother had warned him before that palace servants couldn’t always be trusted.
What if the servant who gave him directions was a bad person? If he ran into a trap, he’d be in trouble.
With heightened caution, the little dumpling abruptly stopped in his tracks.
After stopping, he glanced around carefully. Then, with a series of quick movements, he climbed up a nearby tree.
Perched high in the tree, he stretched his little head, peering out in an attempt to spot his mother or the Duchess, but he saw neither.
While he hid in the tree, a group of people soon gathered below, searching for him.
The little dumpling spotted them, and though he wanted to go down, he hesitated.
“Jiao”
He rubbed his paws over his face, feeling troubled. Even if he went down, these people wouldn’t recognize him in his current form.
The dejected little dumpling laid on the branch, thinking that if he couldn’t change back soon, he might as well stay up in the tree until he could. Worse comes to worst, he’d just take the scolding when he turned back into himself.
He waited patiently for his transformation, but after a long while, it still hadn’t happened.
Time passed slowly.
Just as the little dumpling was starting to feel drowsy, a voice sounded from below the tree.
“Where did this little creature come from? How did it get up there?”
A palace servant had spotted him and murmured, “Looks like one of the beasts from the Royal Beast Division.”
The Royal Beast Division housed rare and exotic creatures sent to the palace from all over the kingdom, and they were well cared for, sometimes even displayed during special events.
As the servant moved closer, intending to catch him, the little dumpling instinctively wanted to run, but he was stuck up in the tree with nowhere to go. If he jumped from such a height, even as a mythical little beast, he might get hurt.
With a growl of warning, the little dumpling let out a low, threatening meow.
He howled as the palace servant, who had climbed up the tree, reached out a hand and almost caught him.
The servant’s hand brushed against his body several times, but the little one had not undergone Ah Wu’s additional training for nothing.
Although the little one hadn’t been taught by his parents how to hunt or attack, he had Ah Wu.
And Ah Wu was still a naturally fierce beast.
“Rawr!”
The little one bared his claws fiercely and swiped at the servant’s hand.
The servant dodged his claws and said, “Little one, I’ll take you back to the Beast Department. Don’t struggle.”
The Beast Department was in a corner of the palace, closest to his big brother.
But the little one wasn’t having any of it. He wouldn’t let any strangers hold him or follow them.
His sharp claws were already extended. He couldn’t be sure if this servant was good or bad, so he held back a bit.
Despite the little one’s constant scratching, the servant couldn’t catch him.
“Jiao!”
After a soft roar, the little one, stepping on his paws, leaped onto the servant’s head, then down to their back.
“Hiss—”
The servant winced in pain from the scratch of his claws, but still tried to grab him.
The little one, meanwhile, stepped on the servant’s back and quickly jumped down. Grabbing onto the tree, he slid down.
As he slid down, his fur was rubbed so much that it almost sparked.
The servant watched him slide down, her eyes darkening. She dropped her pretense and quickly followed.
The little dumpling kept running, and the servant chased him relentlessly. No one had expected he could run so fast.
Throughout the chase, the little one didn’t let Ah Wu’s diligent training go to waste.
He managed to lose the pursuer, but unfortunately, he ended up in the one place he feared most: the Empress’s territory.
Upon realizing where he was, the little one immediately hid his small, furry body.
He hid well, curling up in a small shrine where Buddha statues were displayed. Smelling the incense, he found the scent quite unpleasant.
He hid in the small shrine for about half an hour before the Empress entered.
After the Empress came in, she clasped her hands together, holding prayer beads, and began reciting scriptures.
Following her in was the servant who had been chasing the little one earlier.
“Your Majesty.”
The maid knelt immediately upon entering, her voice trembling as she reported, “The young prince has escaped, and I was just a little short of catching him.”
The little one, hidden in the shrine: “?”
He was bewildered as he listened to the conversation between the Empress and the maid.
The maid, fearful and shaking, admitted her mistake to the Empress, subtly shifting the blame to the young prince for running too fast.
“Keep looking.”
The Empress, eyes closed, didn’t even spare a glance at the maid behind her. As she rotated her prayer beads, her tone was calm and devoid of any emotion: “Once he’s found, take him to the Beast Department and feed him to His Majesty’s white tiger.”
The Emperor owned a white tiger, but it was ferocious, and the Emperor rarely visited it.
“Your Majesty, if the Emperor finds out about feeding the young prince to the tiger—”
“A demon child. What does it matter if he knows? With his temperament, he wouldn’t accept it anyway.”
The Empress had originally wanted this little demon child to reveal his true form in front of the court.
But the little demon had been lucky and hadn’t been exposed in front of everyone.
Since he hadn’t been exposed, feeding him to the white tiger wouldn’t raise any objections.
The maid received her orders and retreated with her head lowered, continuing the search for the little one.
Meanwhile, the little one she was looking for was actually very, very close to her.
The sound of the maid’s footsteps gradually faded, leaving only the sound of the Empress’s chanting in the shrine.
The chanting didn’t last long before it was interrupted again.
“Your Majesty, the palace staff are searching everywhere for the young prince, and the Emperor is very anxious.”
At these words, the Empress opened her eyes slightly.
The corners of her lips curled into a faint, cruel smile: “Of course he’s anxious. His favored prince, whom he wants to crown as heir, has gone missing. How could he not be worried?”
“Your Majesty, the Emperor values the young prince above all else. If something were to happen to him, the Emperor would stop at nothing to investigate.”
“That useless man, what could he possibly uncover?”
Although the Empress’s expression remained calm, her tone revealed more emotion than usual.
The Emperor’s decision to make the young prince his heir had completely enraged her.
She spoke coldly, “He still hasn’t figured out who poisoned him. Even if Ling Rui were to die right in front of him, he probably couldn’t find the murderer.”
Several people came and went as the Empress spoke in the shrine, and her words left the little one, hiding under the altar, more and more shocked.
The little one curled up tightly, his paws trembling slightly.
He had encountered many bad people before, but he had never imagined that the Empress, who always prayed to the Buddha, could be this evil.
And she was plotting such wickedness right in front of the Buddha statue!
The little one’s eyes widened, and he was no longer sure which Buddha the Empress truly believed in.
The Empress stayed in the shrine for quite a while before leaving, though it was unclear what her next move would be.
As soon as she left, the little one tried to stand up.
He had hidden under the table for so long that his paws had gone numb.
After shaking his paws and stretching his small body, he cautiously crawled out from under the table.
Once out, the little one didn’t rush to leave. He was now certain of two things.
First, the Empress knew he was a little demon. No, in her eyes, he was an evil spirit.
Second, it was the Empress who had poisoned his father.
The Empress wanted to kill his father, and she wanted to kill him too.
The little one had just managed to process the two shocking pieces of news while under the table. He was both angry and scared, but now the desire for revenge dominated him.
The Empress was truly wicked.
The little one didn’t want her to keep getting away with her evil deeds without facing any consequences.
He was determined to report the Empress!
A fire burned in his chest as he cautiously inspected the small shrine.
Since the Empress used this shrine for her schemes, it was clear she valued it.
The little one thoroughly checked the shrine but found nothing useful.
He then bravely climbed out of the window and made his way to the Empress’s chambers.
The Empress had returned to change her clothes.
She was alone in her private chamber as she changed.
The little one’s journey into the chambers was perilous—several times, he was almost caught. But his auspicious beast nature seemed to protect him.
Hugging the wall, he slowly crawled his way into the inner room.
Once inside, without making a sound, the little one leapt behind the Empress and knocked her unconscious with a swift strike of his paw.
He had used this same move to knock out the Chief Examiner before.
Shui Shui had specifically taught him that striking this spot could easily knock someone out.
After rendering the Empress unconscious, the little one instinctively placed his paw on her hand, activating his foresight ability.
The Empress always left no traces of her misdeeds.
The little one had thought long and hard earlier but couldn’t come up with a way to punish her.
He couldn’t find any evidence to prove that the Empress had done anything wrong.
With no evidence, he had to rely on his foresight.
As his paw rested on the Empress, he quickly looked into her future.
What he saw made his paws tremble again.
He saw the Empress’s ruthless killings—all done through manipulation.
She had caused the deaths of many people.
In the future, had the little one not intervened, the Empress’s path would have been smooth, with death being the fate of anyone who stood in her way.
Even the Fourth Prince and Consort De wouldn’t survive.
The Empress had killed many, achieving everything she wanted.
She helped the Eldest Prince ascend the throne, and after that, she extended her control even further, meddling in the affairs of the previous dynasty.
From Empress to Empress Dowager, she even dared to kill the emperor himself. By then, her ambitions were no longer solely for her son; she sought more power for herself.
In addition to witnessing the Empress’s numerous killings, the little one endured his fear while searching for evidence to bring her down.
At last, he sniffled, having finally found something.
He found a person—someone who had helped the Empress commit her crimes and hadn’t yet been killed by her.
Though he had found the evidence, the little one still felt a cold chill down his spine.
He called out Ah Wu’s name.
Ah Wu was always the most sensitive to his voice.
“Zai Zai.”
Ah Wu responded to him, asking, “What’s wrong? Weren’t you having fun at Ling Chen’s birthday banquet today?”
“Qing Qing was right,” the little one replied tearfully. “The consorts and the Empress who pray to Buddha are really scary.”
Ah Wu: “…”
Ah Wu tried to soothe him. “Zai Zai, don’t be afraid. Tell me slowly what happened.”
The little one didn’t need Ah Wu’s prompting; he had been dying to tell him.
He had learned so much just now, and if he didn’t tell Ah Wu, he felt like he would burst.
Unable to keep secrets, the little one spilled everything that had happened to him to Ah Wu.
Ah Wu, who had always kept a close eye on him, had still failed to uncover anything about the Empress.
Even from Ah Wu’s perspective, it was clear how meticulous the Empress was.
The little one continued his complaints.
Ah Wu fell silent for a moment, clearly surprised that the Empress, in her cunning, was almost on par with him, a fierce beast.
After a long pause, Ah Wu spoke up: “Zai Zai, stop looking for evidence. I’ll come over.”
The little one: “…”
He scrunched his face. “Ah Wu, don’t eat things indiscriminately!”
