Ah Wu, whose eyes were covered, was a bit confused.
He stopped moving and asked in a low voice, “Zai Zai, what’s wrong?”
Ling Rui swallowed and tried to steady his nervous breathing.
He didn’t want Ah Wu to notice anything unusual.
“Nothing, nothing.”
Though Ling Rui said nothing was wrong, his hand stayed over Ah Wu’s eyes.
He really didn’t dare meet Ah Wu’s gaze right now.
“Ah Wu, I want to cover your eyes.”
Ling Rui said softly, and after speaking, he freed one hand to grab a red ribbon from the bedpost.
The red ribbon, originally used for tying hair, now worked perfectly for covering Ah Wu’s eyes.
“Ah Wu, you look so good with your eyes covered.”
The red ribbon over Ah Wu’s eyes made his entire face look even more striking.
Ling Rui’s heartbeat refused to calm down.
Ah Wu was just too, too, too good-looking.
Facing such a beautiful face, Ling Rui found it impossible to stay calm.
“Zai Zai, if you cover my eyes, I won’t be able to see you.”
“That’s okay. As long as I can see you.”
Ling Rui leaned in for a kiss after speaking.
The candlelight flickered in the room as Ah Wu began to notice that tonight’s Ling Rui seemed different from before.
He seemed unusually tense.
“Zai Zai, what’s wrong with you?”
“Nothing’s wrong.”
Ling Rui instinctively shook his head but then realized Ah Wu couldn’t see, so he added, “I just thought about leaving soon, and I’m really going to miss you.”
Hearing this, Ah Wu held him even tighter.
“I told you, I’ll come see you when the time comes.”
“Mm!”
After a moment of silence, Ling Rui couldn’t help but ask, “Ah Wu, would you do anything I ask of you?”
Ling Rui had remembered everything.
So he clearly recalled that their relationship had reached this point because of his persistence, and even forcefulness.
He had been the one insisting on this.
And Ah Wu, who had never refused him, had only agreed because of his relentless efforts.
Ling Rui already knew the answer to his question.
Ah Wu also responded, “Mm, whatever you want me to do, I’ll fulfill it.”
Ling Rui: “…”
Ling Rui’s pretty face scrunched up.
As expected, he knew it would be like this.
The sweetness he felt from Ah Wu now was all because Ah Wu was accommodating him.
Ling Rui’s heart became a mix of emotions. He stretched out his arms, wrapped them around Ah Wu, and kept his mouth tightly shut, not wanting to make any sound.
The night passed neither too quickly nor too slowly.
Usually, Ling Rui would have fallen asleep by midnight, but this time, he was too anxious to sleep.
Seeing Ling Rui still awake, Ah Wu thought it was because he hadn’t tried hard enough.
“Zai Zai, you’re still not sleepy?”
“No, I’m not.”
Ah Wu: “…”
Ah Wu’s grip suddenly tightened, and the next second, he began to soothe Ling Rui again.
In less than half an hour, the previously restless Ling Rui finally fell asleep.
His eyelids were too heavy to keep open, and he was so exhausted that he quickly fell into a deep sleep.
After he fell asleep, Ah Wu remained awake.
He lowered his gaze and quietly watched Ling Rui’s face.
It was a long while before Ah Wu finally looked away.
The day to leave the military camp arrived in the blink of an eye.
Before leaving, Ling Rui went to see Little Butterfly.
Little Butterfly had changed into their Qi Dynasty clothing, and her delicate face now appeared more lively and spirited.
“Big Brother Little Seven.”
Little Butterfly gently tugged on the corner of Ling Rui’s robe and asked, “Can I come play with you in the future?”
“Of course.”
Ling Rui smiled, his eyes curving. “If you ever need anything, you can come find me.”
“Okay.”
Little Butterfly was a charming and likable girl, and though she was young, she seemed very sensible.
She also had a clear understanding of what her clan had done.
Both she and her older brother felt that the actions of their clan were wrong and would lead to trouble sooner or later.
As it turned out, sometimes children’s instincts and insights are incredibly accurate.
Their clan’s actions did indeed come back to haunt them.
“Big Brother Little Seven, safe travels.”
Little Butterfly handed Ling Rui a small sachet she carried with her. “I made this myself, with good herbs inside. I hope you like it.”
“I love it.”
Ling Rui smiled as he accepted the sachet and praised her, “Your handiwork is really impressive.”
The two of them chatted for a while, and the scene was quite harmonious.
After they finished talking, they waved goodbye.
The next day, Ling Rui followed Ling Chen and set off on the road back to the palace.
Before leaving, Ling Rui sat in the carriage, looking at Ah Wu who had come to see him off. The more he looked, the sadder he felt.
He hadn’t spent enough time being close with Ah Wu yet.
Even though Ah Wu had been coerced by him, Ling Rui didn’t want their relationship to end.
In front of Ah Wu, he pretended not to have remembered everything, and sometimes he felt terrible for doing so.
But he couldn’t bring himself to confess.
“Ah Wu.”
There was no one else in the carriage, just the two of them. Ling Rui’s eyes reddened and filled with tears. “I won’t be able to hold you while I sleep tonight.”
“I brought you lots of storybooks. If you can’t sleep, read them.”
“Storybooks aren’t as good as you.”
Ling Rui sniffled. The storybooks he once loved didn’t compare to Ah Wu at all.
“Be good. If you really can’t sleep, ask your big brother to tell you a story.”
Since Ling Chen was traveling with Ling Rui, Ah Wu figured Ling Chen would gladly entertain his younger brother.
“Ah Wu, when I’m gone, you’ll miss me, right?”
“Mm, I’ll miss you.”
“You can’t hate me.” Ling Rui suddenly said, seemingly out of nowhere. “No matter what happens, you’re not allowed to hate me.”
Even if the day came when his secret was exposed and Ah Wu found out he had regained his memories long ago but pretended to have amnesia, Ah Wu still couldn’t hate him.
Ah Wu had no idea what Ling Rui was thinking.
He simply responded seriously, “I won’t hate you. No matter what happens, I never will.”
The two of them locked eyes, both filled with reluctance.
Ling Rui leaned in for a long kiss.
In the carriage, they kept kissing and hugging, delaying the departure. Seeing this, Murong Xu, who was responsible for escorting them part of the way, walked over and knocked on the door from outside.
“Little Seven, it’s time to go.”
“Got it!”
The carriage finally started moving. Ah Wu stayed where he was, watching the carriage disappear from sight before turning away.
Shui Shui didn’t return to the palace with them. Even though there were army medics at the camp, Shui Shui wasn’t satisfied with their skills, so he had stayed to train them.
Despite being younger than the medics, they all greatly respected Shui Shui.
He planned to finish training this batch of medics before heading back to the palace.
“You and Little Seven have been found out.”
Shui Shui, who had come to see them off, said this unexpectedly while watching Ah Wu standing still.
Ah Wu turned his head to look at him.
Shui Shui’s expression was calm, and his tone was just as composed. “His Highness knows about the two of you.”
Ah Wu responded with an “Mm,” saying, “I know.”
Seeing how calm Ah Wu was, Shui Shui thought he must have some kind of plan.
After all, being with Little Seven wouldn’t be easy.
Little Seven’s parents, his brothers and sisters, and many others who loved him would all clearly become obstacles for him and Ah Wu.
“As long as Little Seven is willing, nothing will stand in our way.”
Shui Shui: “?”
Shui Shui was confused. “Aren’t you two already together?”
Ah Wu said nothing and didn’t explain further.
The two of them exchanged only a few more words before ending the conversation.
After Ling Rui had gone far, Ah Wu left the military camp that same day and returned to Great Qing.
On the journey back to the palace, Ling Rui and Ling Chen shared the same carriage.
The carriage was spacious enough for someone to lie down and rest.
Not long after getting on, Ling Rui started yawning.
Ling Chen told him to lie down and rest his head on his lap to be more comfortable.
“Little Seven, when did you sleep last night? Why are you so tired today?”
“Uh, I forgot.”
Ling Rui hadn’t forgotten—he was just too guilty to say.
Ever since he had moved next door to his elder brother, it had become much more difficult for Ah Wu to visit.
His big brother was always doing surprise inspections!
Luckily, sometimes their uncle would visit his brother for a chat, keeping him occupied, and on those nights, his brother wouldn’t come to check.
Last night, his brother didn’t come.
With such a rare opportunity, Ling Rui of course didn’t waste it.
He had spent the whole night with Ah Wu.
Now, in broad daylight, he couldn’t stop yawning.
“Close your eyes and sleep for a bit.”
Ling Chen stroked his head, telling him to rest.
Ling Rui laid on his brother’s lap, wrapped his arms around his waist, and soon fell asleep.
He slept soundly, finding great comfort and security in his brother’s presence.
As Ling Chen listened to his breathing even out, his gaze darkened slightly. Then, he gently tugged at the collar of Ling Rui’s clothes.
When the collar came loose, the red marks on Ling Rui’s skin were impossible to ignore, immediately catching Ling Chen’s eye.
Ling Chen’s breath hitched.
He had his suspicions, but no matter how certain his guesses had been, seeing it with his own eyes was far more shocking.
Looking at the marks on Ling Rui’s body, Ling Chen nearly lost his composure.
He quickly fixed his brother’s clothes and pressed hard on his own temples.
Even after taking a moment to calm down, Ling Chen still felt unsettled.
No, he had to do something.
Ling Chen’s mind raced, thinking of how to address his brother’s situation.
He wasn’t against his brother finding love, but he had to help him understand—
Dependence and love were two different things.
The carriage continued to move, and at one point, Murong Xu entered to check on them.
“Why is Little Seven still sleeping?”
Murong Xu smiled as he looked at Ling Rui, who was still fast asleep. “He’s sleeping like a little piglet.”
“There’s nothing else to do on the road, so it’s better that he sleeps.”
Even in the carriage, Ling Chen wasn’t idle; he was reading a booklet.
Murong Xu casually took the booklet from him and set it aside.
“You should rest too. Once you’re back at the palace, there’ll be plenty of official duties to keep you busy.”
Murong Xu kept his voice low, careful not to wake Ling Rui.
Ling Chen didn’t take his advice and reached for the booklet again.
Murong Xu held down his hand, stopping him.
Just as the two were about to come to a standoff, Ling Rui, who was lying on Ling Chen’s lap, shifted slightly and muttered in his sleep.
This small movement made both Ling Chen and Murong Xu freeze.
After a moment, Ling Chen, perhaps not wanting to wake his brother, withdrew his hand from the booklet and coldly ordered Murong Xu out of the carriage.
The journey was long and exhausting, but finally, after several days, they arrived back at the palace.
The palace had been notified of their return in advance, so preparations had already been made.
Ling Rui was living happily in the palace.
Although the emperor’s health wasn’t great, seeing Ling Rui back had lifted his spirits, and he seemed to be doing a bit better.
Noble Consort Yi had a habit of exercising, so her health was much sturdier.
In the palace, Ling Rui was loved wherever he went.
Within just a few days of his return, his cheeks had even gotten a bit rounder from all the pampering.
After a few days of being indulged, Ling Rui touched his increasingly plump face and felt a little overwhelmed.
He informed the emperor and Noble Consort Yi, and then immediately headed to his sixth brother’s residence.
After his marriage to Miss Yuan Yuan, Sixth Brother had been living a happy life.
Miss Yuan Yuan was sweet and adorable, and Ling Fu adored her immensely.
The couple’s life was blissful, and when Ling Rui arrived, Yuan Yuan was already pregnant.
“Little Seven, I’m going to be a father soon.”
Ling Fu couldn’t hide his joy. “Being a father feels amazing!”
Ling Rui: “…”
Everywhere he went, people were flaunting their love. He patted his chest, feeling like he desperately needed Ah Wu too!
“Little Seven, Yuan Yuan and I have agreed that when Yuan Yuan is a bit older, we’ll send him to Guan Shan Residence. You can ask your Big Boss to take care of him then.”
“My Big Boss might not have time.”
Ling Rui rubbed his face and sighed, “Ever since he reunited with Uncle Lian Qing, he’s been MIA. Uncle Lian Qing had even promised to come see me.”
Hearing this, Ling Fu patted him on the shoulder, full of understanding. “They’ve been apart for a long time. Now that they’re finally together, they probably don’t want to be disturbed.”
The brothers continued chatting, but soon it was time for Yuan Yuan to drink her pregnancy tonic.
Ling Fu eagerly accompanied her.
Ling Rui squatted in place, feeling dejected and wishing he could just come out with the truth.
He didn’t spend the night at Ling Fu’s residence. Instead, he returned to the palace and was greeted by his parents, who casually began urging him to marry.
Gathering his courage, he asked, “Father, Mother, if I like someone but you don’t, would you break us up?”
The emperor raised an eyebrow and said, “Your father lived in Guan Shan Residence for a long time, so don’t worry. I’m quite open-minded.”
As long as his Little Seven married a virtuous and kind woman, regardless of her status, he would approve.

Welp, here comes the struggle. Coming put to a loving family who still will not approve of as Kong as they think they knows better for your sake, whether they are right or wrong. But a real loving family will listen and as long as it’s objectively and rationaly ok, they will support you.
Little seven, fighto! Sending you a lot of courage and support. And to everyone else who are going through it.
Thank you so much for the update ❤️
