Everyone Is Non-Human Except Me [Rebirth] Chapter 100

When the Sun Reaches Zenith, It Begins to Decline

On the eve of the public election, Yun Yongzhou, as the spokesperson for the Golden Crow Party, was swamped with work. Wei Huan also returned to Shanhai and, together with Yang Sheng, went straight to the underground detention chamber. Seeing that Xie Tianfa was still there, he was a bit more at ease. However, Qing He was missing, which Wei Huan found strange.

“He probably went to the research department. By the way, what’s your next step?” Yang Sheng asked.

Wei Huan looked up. The sky was filled with pale gray clouds, as if it were brimming with an impending storm.

“Start by investigating the support request from seven years ago.” Wei Huan looked at Yang Sheng. “Back then, of all the members in Group Seven, only I received that letter. It had both the government military seal and the Shanhai Combat Preparedness Force insignia.”

Yang Sheng’s expression darkened. “Your parents had just died at the time, and Nine Phoenix’s standing in the government military had plummeted. If someone with past grudges against Nine Phoenix struck then, it wouldn’t be impossible. But if the problem came from within Shanhai…”

Wei Huan added, “If it really was Shanhai… the biggest inconsistency is that I live here every day. It shouldn’t have been possible to hide my identity—especially if the culprit is as meticulous as I think. They should’ve noticed something off about me. They might’ve even figured out who I really am.”

The two of them walked to the square at the junction of Fuyou and Yansui. The large screen there was currently showing a speech by the Dean, Lin Zhengze, regarding precautions for Shanhai students during tomorrow’s public election.

Yang Sheng said again, “So what you mean is—if the mastermind is within Shanhai, why would they tolerate you growing stronger and stronger, instead of eliminating you early on when you were still a sapling?”

Wei Huan nodded. “I keep feeling like… there’s another reason behind all of this.”

Just then, the screen suddenly flickered, trembled a few times, then went completely black. The students walking across the plaza all stopped in their tracks. Even the students patrolling midair descended.

“Did it break?”

They heard a student exclaim, “Hey! My comm device screen just blacked out too…”

“Same here…”

“Me too. What’s going on?”

The disruption came without warning. Wei Huan was puzzled. He and Yang Sheng both opened their comm devices and projected their holographic screens—only to find they were also black. The displays were completely unresponsive, as if the entire system had shut down.

A few seconds later, the large screen in front of them flickered again and began to emit a sharp electric noise. As the crowd looked on in confusion, a symbol suddenly appeared on the screen. The moment Wei Huan saw it, he froze in place.

Rebels…

Yang Sheng was confused. “What did you say?”

“That’s Qing He’s organization.” Wei Huan was about to say more when a voice rang out from the screen—an electronically modified, synthetic voice.

“Hello, everyone. I’m sure many of you are feeling very confused right now. Whether you are human, half-demon, or demon, at this moment you likely share the same emotion. Let me first introduce myself. I am the leader of the anarchist group Rebels.”

Wei Huan furrowed his brows slightly. As expected—it was Yu Sheng. They must have taken control of most of the electronic devices across both Fanzhou and the demon realm.

He turned to Yang Sheng and asked, “Where’s Buyu? Have you seen him?”

Yang Sheng shook his head. “No. Should we try to contact him?”

“Forget it,” Wei Huan said. “There’s no way to reach him now anyway.”

The voice on screen continued: “First, let’s watch a video.”

As soon as the words were spoken, the black screen changed into a video. It showed the 137 Research Facility conducting human–demon puppet experiments: the bodies of demon subjects being cut open on operating tables, and human test subjects screaming and struggling in agony. The square echoed with their wails.

Many of the students at the scene lowered their heads, unable to bear watching. Others clenched their fists tightly, their faces grim.

The camera angles were clearly from hidden recordings. Wei Huan remembered Qing He had once said that Rebels had spies planted within the 137 Research Institute. But he hadn’t expected even core departments to be infiltrated—truly impressive.

“These are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the anti-human, anti-demon experiments,” Yu Sheng’s voice came again. “Now imagine: you, your family, your friends—what if you became one of these test subjects? I think most of you already know the fate of those who did survive these puppet experiments.”

The screen then showed a giant crater-like mass grave, where grotesque bodies were burning in a raging inferno.

“Tragic, isn’t it? Fortunately, our esteemed Prime Minister Yun has spared no effort in leading the charge to eradicate these demon puppets. He’s also promised to provide military aid to the people of Fanzhou free of charge. I’m sure all of you suffering in hardship must feel immensely grateful.”

Wei Huan already had a guess about what would come next.

This Yu Sheng was even more skilled than he’d imagined.

The synthesized voice vanished, replaced by another—a new recording, apparently intercepted via comms.

It was a voice everyone had grown familiar with in recent days, thanks to the non-stop election broadcasts.

“You’ve been working on this demon puppet project for so long, and I’ve only seen one worth anything—the one made from Nine Phoenix remains. At least that one has some destructive power… I don’t want to hear your excuses. Just get it done. The puppets aren’t strong enough to cause a reaction. We need widespread destruction—best if it kills both humans and demons. Only when fear spreads can the government troops step in and look like heroes. Do you understand?”

The mask of a vile politician had finally been ripped away.

Yu Sheng’s voice returned: “This is just one of the many private communications between Prime Minister Yun and the 137 Research Facility. The rest of the records are listed below—including all their online exchanges, IP addresses, and encrypted data logs. All of this will soon be made public. We invite the media and citizens of all communities to verify the truth.”

Lines of data scrolled across the screen. Wei Huan watched silently. He was surprised, and yet… not really.

“Is the Prime Minister really only contributing in the fight against demon puppets?”

Another document appeared on screen, stamped with the official seal of the Demon Federation.

“This is a document bearing the Prime Minister’s personal signature and seal, pertaining to the allocation of federal military defense funds. In recent years, the Federation has been collecting high taxes, claiming the money was for national defense. But according to these documents, the majority of the funds have untraceable flows. We don’t know exactly whose pockets the money went into—but what we do know is that Prime Minister Yun Yongzhou’s election campaign funding did not come solely from ordinary demon citizens. Some came from the realm’s major financial conglomerates.”

Wei Huan was stunned.

How far had Rebels infiltrated? Even into the world of the tycoons?

Then, a thought struck him— Nine-Tails. Shanyue had once said she needed to uncover the truth, because it was crucial in resisting her own family’s control.

Could it be that Shanyue was working with them too?

A new document appeared on screen: “This is a set of encrypted files from the Nine-Tails—currently the largest financial conglomerate in the demon realm.”

“According to these records, most of the funds were funneled directly into the Prime Minister’s Office and Cabinet, used to manipulate public opinion during the election and to buy votes. Of course, this wasn’t a money-losing deal. In exchange, the Nine-Tails Group secured a complete monopoly on the manufacturing of military supplies in the Federation this year. The monopoly of capital has once again advanced to a terrifying degree.”

Each one of them had burned their bridges.

The square was dead silent. Everyone seemed to fall into silence simultaneously—silence born of shock.

“According to polls, Prime Minister Yun’s approval rating has now reached 78%, probably the highest ever for a prime minister since the founding of the Demon Federation. Right now, the Fanzhou government must be in a panic, scrambling to deal with this broadcast—because their true ruler isn’t President Chen, but Prime Minister Yun Ting of the Demon Federation.”

New evidence appeared on screen—documents and data showing the Demon Federation’s secret operations before Chen Zhong’s election.

“Yun Ting has been manipulating the Fanzhou government from the shadows for years. I believe everyone is already aware of this to some extent. These are irrefutable proofs.”

“Rebels will release all of the evidence, along with full communication records between President Chen and Prime Minister Yun Ting. Everyone—every human, every demon—will be able to see the truth for themselves.”

The files on the screen faded, leaving only the solitary Rebels logo.

“The truth is cruel, but it is like the sun above your heads—”

“It always exists.”

Rebels’ screen hijack ended, and that eerie voice vanished like a ghost.

That line suddenly struck a deep chord in Wei Huan’s heart. He frowned and stared into the darkness on the screen.

The feeling was eerily familiar.

Yang Sheng, standing beside him, said, “Who would’ve thought this organization had lain dormant for so long—and even more surprising, that they maintained total neutrality.” He looked at Wei Huan and noticed something wrong. “What’s going on with you?”

Wei Huan shook his head. “Nothing.”

He just felt that—his judgment might’ve been completely wrong.

Utterly wrong.

Even though his predictions had missed the mark, Wei Huan could already envision what kind of seismic upheaval was about to hit both Fanzhou and the Demon Realm after Rebels played their trump card.

And sure enough, within just thirty minutes of the Rebels incident, Yun Ting’s public approval rating online plummeted to 12%. The situation flipped instantly. At the same time, online petitions surged—demanding legal action against Yun Ting.

The next day was the election. Yun Ting didn’t even show up in person—perhaps afraid of being assassinated. Wei Huan went to the Demon Federation’s public hall to vote and saw only the other candidate. This was the first time such a thing had ever happened in the Federation—it was almost laughable. But although Yun Ting didn’t appear, the square was completely flooded with protesters and opposition.

“Down with tyranny! Imprison Yun the traitor!” — The chant echoed through the skies above Kunlun Void.

The Demon Federation still had military defense in place, but the ordinary demons were not backing down. For a time, clashes broke out everywhere.

Wei Huan thought about the timing—it was strange. If Rebels had only wanted to sabotage Yun Ting’s election and get him thrown in jail, any time would’ve worked. In fact, the earlier, the better. So why did they wait until now to drop everything at once?

It was like Yu Sheng… had been waiting for something.

Just as they returned to Shanhai, they suddenly received a very short message:

[The Shanhai Combat Preparedness Army has renounced neutrality. We support all protesters and will provide them with military protection. May the Demon Realm be cleansed of tyranny and born anew.]

Staring at this message, Wei Huan remained silent for a long time.

Yang Sheng said, “Forget it. Orders have already come down from Command. We’re to protect the protesters now—clashes have already broken out.”

Wei Huan nodded and changed into his battle gear.

A flash of insight sparked in his mind.

“I know now.”

Yang Sheng was puzzled. “What did you say?”

“I know who he’s been waiting for.”

So that was it. That was it.

Wei Huan felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end. There was someone—someone just like him—who had been waiting all this time for this massive, tangled puzzle to finally come together.

Someone who was also waiting for the hand behind the curtain to slip up.

The clashes at the protest site weren’t too serious. The votes were tallied that same day, and the Water Qilin candidate was elected as the new Prime Minister of the Demon Realm with 76% of the vote. Yun Ting was arrested immediately, and the government army’s defensive stance was revoked.

Wei Huan and the others barely had to do any defense. Yang Sheng told him to go rest, but Wei Huan thought about it and decided instead to go find Yun Yongzhou.

He sent a telepathic link toward Yun Yongzhou, only to discover that he was still at the Demon Federation’s government building.

[What are you doing there?]

Not long after, Yun Yongzhou replied:

[I came to visit him.]

Wei Huan used the telepathic link to unlock the barrier where Yun Yongzhou was. At first, he intended to go directly to him—but after a moment of hesitation, he redirected and opened a different gateway instead.

At that moment, Yun Yongzhou, the only son of Yun Ting, had gone to the prison—to visit his father, now steeped in guilt and disgrace.

Yun Ting, however, showed no remorse. “I never thought you’d have the face to come here. Why don’t you think about how to get your backer out of trouble? I raised a waste of space!”

Yun Yongzhou looked silently at the man’s final disgrace. He curled his lips into a faint smile.

The smile provoked Yun Ting further, his rage deepening. “I just don’t get it, Yun Yongzhou. For twenty years, I nurtured you, gave you the best of everything.”

His blood-red eyes locked onto Yun Yongzhou. The demonic energy bound by special chains swelled beneath his skin like inflamed veins. “Now that I’ve fallen, do you think your life will get any better? What are you so happy about? Do you really think that with me out of the way, you’ll be free? Take a look at the Federation government—do you think they’ll dare to kill me so easily? Even if you deny being my son, my blood still flows through your veins. Don’t forget—you’ll always be a Golden Crow!”

Yun Yongzhou slowly raised his hand, and a flame of Golden Crow fire ignited in his palm. His voice turned ice-cold, shattering like glass upon Yun Ting’s body.

“There’s nothing wrong with being a Golden Crow. I’ve never thought of it as a disgrace.”

The fire flared stronger.

“The only disgrace here—is you.”

Just as he finished speaking, Wei Huan appeared in the prison. Yun Yongzhou didn’t seem the least bit surprised—he knew Wei Huan would come.

But what did catch him off guard—was that someone had followed Wei Huan in.

Yun Ting glanced at Wei Huan, his laughter growing more maniacal. “You’ve really gone mad! You even dared bring this lowly thing here.”

The bracelet on Wei Huan’s wrist vanished, and a light cord suddenly appeared, yanking violently at Yun Ting’s neck. “I’m asking you—was that support request sent to the Nine Phoenix back then connected to you?”

Yun Ting wore a look that said What nonsense are you spouting, but after a few seconds of reaction, he suddenly laughed. “So you’re the brat who defected back then? Well done,” he turned to Yun Yongzhou. “You must be so proud, mingling with a traitor and still thinking you have the right to lecture your father!”

“My father…” Wei Huan took a deep breath. “Did my father’s death have anything to do with you?”

Yun Ting sneered coldly, “Why didn’t you ask him yourself when you were dying?”

From the look of him, he truly didn’t know.

Wei Huan understood this and retracted the light cord with faint disgust. He turned and said, “Boss Jue, sorry to trouble you.”

Boss Jue nodded and stepped in front of Wei Huan. She swept her orange hair to one side and gave Yun Ting a slight smile. “Former Prime Minister, long time no see.”

The moment Yun Ting saw her, his face turned ashen. “You… How are you…”

“I came to fulfill my promise.” Boss Jue raised her hands, and orange light appeared between them. The power of the demon witch lifted Yun Ting, now in prison garb, into the air. He couldn’t move, only howl and scream, “What are you doing?! You—!”

“Shhh,” Wei Huan made a gesture. “Don’t worry, we’re not going to kill you.”

The demon witch’s power wrapped around Yun Ting’s body, forming a seal inscribed with demon witch totems. At the center of the totem, a glowing orb began to rise and slowly descended into Boss Jue’s hand.

“Give that back!” Yun Ting screamed.

Boss Jue sneered, “No need. I’ll give you a new one, dear former Prime Minister.”

As she finished speaking, a black orb manifested in her hand. She silently chanted a demon witch incantation. The black orb floated into the center of the totem seal and embedded itself. Instantly, orange demon wind roared to life, forming a vortex with the fixed seal that engulfed Yun Ting. His bloodcurdling screams echoed through the air. When the orange storm finally stilled, a red demon light flickered within the black orb.

The orb gently descended and landed before Yun Yongzhou.

It was a painfully familiar scene—he had once watched, as a child, his mother’s demon soul being sealed this very same way. Now, the wheel of fate turned. The one who had once wielded power to strip away his mother’s soul had become a hollow shell, slamming lifelessly to the ground. His scarlet eyes were vacant, like two ugly plastic beads.

With a wave of his hand, Yun Yongzhou retrieved the black orb containing the tainted soul.

Boss Jue walked to his side and placed another glowing orb into his hand. She said softly, “I’ve removed the barrier. Crush this, and your mother will be free.”

“Thank you,” Yun Yongzhou murmured.

His face showed not the slightest ripple—whether watching Yun Ting being sealed just now or now holding his mother’s soul—but Wei Huan could see it: Yun Yongzhou’s hand, gripping the orb, was trembling.

Wei Huan walked up and quietly took his other hand.

With a firm squeeze, Yun Yongzhou finally crushed the orb. It burst into countless points of light, scattering like stars.

A faint figure formed in front of him, outlined by those shimmering specks.

“Yongzhou…”

After twenty years, he finally heard his mother’s voice again—still as gentle as ever.

Her demon soul stretched out both arms, embracing him with all her strength.

“You grew up safely. That’s all that matters.”

Yun Yongzhou raised his hand slightly, wanting to embrace her back.

“Mama will always love you. Always.”

Before he could return the hug fully, her form dissolved again into specks of light, fading like summer fireflies into the vast night sky—free at last, with no more attachments.

After waiting so many years, all he received was an incomplete embrace.

Yun Yongzhou lowered his eyes and fell silent.

They left the prison.

Boss Jue had done her part. “Little Nine Phoenix, I did everything you asked.”

“Got it. I’ll make sure Miss Rich Lady takes care of your business more in the future,” Wei Huan winked at her. “Get home safe.”

Watching her leave, Wei Huan and Yun Yongzhou walked side by side down the road like two ordinary people. Wei Huan held his hand and asked softly, “Are you free now, Little Golden Crow?”

Yun Yongzhou grasped his hand back, saying nothing.

Wei Huan looked at his profile and the faintly pursed line of his lips. It felt like he’d been staring at this face forever, from every angle, from near and far. In his fragmented memories, this was how he always looked at his sun.

He quietly let go of his hand and asked again, “Have you fulfilled your mission?”

This time Yun Yongzhou looked at him. “My mission… is for you.”

Wei Huan smiled, a bit proudly. “I know.”

He came to a stop—but Yun Yongzhou didn’t seem to notice and kept walking ahead. The post-rain sunlight blurred his silhouette.

“I know you didn’t just do this to bring him down.”

Wei Huan’s eyes were fixed on Yun Yongzhou’s back.

What a fool. I must’ve been blind.

How could I not recognize even that back?

Upon hearing Wei Huan’s words, Yun Yongzhou froze, belatedly realizing something. He turned to look at Wei Huan, who stood a few steps away.

“It’s Qing He’s fault. He misled me. Maybe he didn’t know either. The leader of Rebels really is named Yu Sheng, but it’s not the ‘yu’ for rain, or the ‘sheng’ for life.”

He met Yun Yongzhou’s gaze openly.

“It’s ‘yu’ for feather, and ‘sheng’ for rising.”

Yu Sheng — Together, the characters look almost identical to the character 羿, the name of the legendary archer Hou Yi.

Their emblem wasn’t a crescent moon at all—it was a bow and arrow, meant to shoot down the false sun.

Fragments of thought in his mind came together to form the full truth. Wei Huan finally understood why, compared to others, Yun Yongzhou had always shown more tolerance toward Qing He. He also understood why Yun Yongzhou had frequented the dark zones, and why he had ultimately agreed to join the government army. It wasn’t just to rescue them—but to bring the final closure to his plan for revenge.

The last piece of evidence provided by Rebels—no one else but the prime minister’s son could have gotten hold of it.

Yun Yongzhou was stirred inside, unsure of what to say. He saw Wei Huan stick both hands in his pockets and smile at him.

“Did I guess right, Yu Sheng?”

The one who had become Hou Yi—the real sun.
