Everyone Is Non-Human Except Me [Rebirth] Chapter 121

Extra 4: Let Me Be Yours

Ever since accidentally discovering Yun Yongzhou’s secret last time, Wei Huan had been riding a high. He even used his wind-crafting skill to make a big mailbox—complete with a lock, one even Yun Yongzhou couldn’t open.

“All mine, even you can’t take them. I read through it every day.” Wei Huan dragged the big mailbox over and placed it beside his miniature model of a lakeside villa. “From now on, all my treasures go in this room.”

Yun Yongzhou replied mildly, “How many treasures do you have?”

Hearing that, Wei Huan sweetly wrapped his arms around Yun Yongzhou’s neck. “Just one, and he’s right here.”

Since returning to work at Shanhai, Wei Huan had been waking up early every day for practical training, utterly exhausted. When he finally got a rare day off, he seized the chance to rest, curled up at home watching TV. That day’s show was a melodrama where the female lead’s entire family had died. Staring at the screen, Wei Huan swallowed his mouthful of ice cream. “The female lead must be based on me. How could someone be this miserable…”

Just then, Yun Yongzhou walked over from the bathroom, still damp and wearing only a bathrobe. He was reaching for his loungewear draped over the sofa arm. Unaware of Wei Huan’s mischievous little expression, and with his body heat causing the water on his skin to evaporate into a steamy haze, Yun Yongzhou reached out with a light thread of spiritual energy to pull his clothes toward him.

A gust of wind suddenly rose for no reason and blew open his loosely fastened robe. The white robe slid off his left shoulder. Yun Yongzhou frowned slightly and glanced at Wei Huan, but Wei Huan had already slapped his hands over his eyes—with suspiciously large gaps between his fingers. Through them, his eyes blinked rapidly and he grinned cheekily, “Oh wow, little golden crow, are you trying to seduce me?”

Yun Yongzhou’s light-colored eyes stared at Wei Huan’s playful expression. He said nothing but reached for the sash at his waist, acting like he was about to untie it.

Wei Huan instantly sat up straight, hands dropping from his face, eyes wide. “What are you doing?!”

Yun Yongzhou’s voice remained cool and flat. He expressionlessly pulled at the sash. “Seducing you.”

…Game over.

“Hey hey hey! How did you learn to ride my own trick against me?!” Wei Huan scrambled up from the carpet and clung to Yun Yongzhou like a sticky koala. His arms stretched out and latched onto him as if ready to leap. Yun Yongzhou said nothing but caught him solidly, letting Wei Huan wrap his long legs around him, even bouncing him up slightly for a better hold. Wei Huan hugged his neck and whined, “Kiss me.”

Yun Yongzhou tilted his chin and leaned in. The kiss mixed minty aggression with soft vanilla sweetness. The steamy warmth blurred everything, turning the air misty. The faint noises between their lips and teeth melted under the soft light, sticky and thick—like a silver spoon falling into a jar of honey, tangled up with threads of sugar to make the perfect sound.

He held Wei Huan and walked them both to the bedroom, kissing him with every step until Wei Huan fell back onto the soft bed. The bedroom lights were off, and only moonlight lit the room, shining on Wei Huan’s clean and beautiful face. He had never gone through those seven years; his heart and appearance were the same as they used to be.

He reached out, hand trailing from Yun Yongzhou’s collarbone down to the scar on his chest that never fully healed.

“Does this still hurt?” Wei Huan’s gaze slowly lifted from the scar to Yun Yongzhou’s eyes. Yun Yongzhou gave a small shake of his head and leaned down to gently kiss the space between Wei Huan’s brows.

Wei Huan didn’t move his hand, fingertips still tracing the old wound. He knew—those 49 soul-piercing needles should’ve been his. It should’ve been his soul that shattered. If Yun Yongzhou hadn’t blocked the blow and called his soul back afterward, he wouldn’t have made it back.

It terrified him. What scared Wei Huan wasn’t the loss of life, but the thought that he and Yun Yongzhou could’ve missed each other forever, with no way to begin again.

He turned Yun Yongzhou onto his back and lay over his chest, kissing the scar. Neither of them spoke. The quiet of night seemed to have said everything already. Those youthful stirrings from the past and the many moments of unbearable regret had all been smoothed into gentle moonlight, flowing over their bodies like water.

Yun Yongzhou’s warm palm slowly stroked the back of Wei Huan’s head, gentle to the point of being excessive. Wei Huan didn’t know why, but suddenly remembered the things he wrote in those unsent letters.

“Do you still think I only loved your looks?” Wei Huan asked softly, resting against his chest.

“What else?”

With every word, Wei Huan could feel the faint vibrations and resonance in Yun Yongzhou’s body, and it comforted him. He turned his face to look at the shimmering lake outside the window. “I might seem good at managing emotions, but honestly, I often don’t even know my own heart. Like the first time I saw you, at the chess field—I talked a lot of nonsense back then without even knowing why.”

His tone slowed. A bird flew across the lake outside.

“Thinking back now, I probably already felt you were special. I wanted your attention. Deep down, I’ve always admired strength—I naturally chase after those stronger than me. And it just so happened that you appeared, right at the most reckless time of my youth.”

Then he suddenly grabbed Yun Yongzhou’s hand, voice brightening. “And you’re not just strong. You have no idea how cute you are. I secretly watched you all the time. You’re cold and aloof, but weirdly love watching excitement. And I love stirring up excitement, so we always ended up together. You always said you hated me, but when danger came, you’d stay and fight back-to-back with me—that’s when I felt the safest.”

“You don’t know… When I lost my parents, I was devastated. At the funeral, I couldn’t even cry. I had to act like an adult and deal with all the social nonsense. I stood there, and everything felt grey and cold. But then, from far away, I saw you. You were in all black, with a black baseball cap. Your arms were pale like the lilies you were holding. I recognized you instantly. I thought, if you came and hugged me, I’d probably cry in your arms. A little embarrassing, but I wanted it.”

He chuckled. “But you never hugged me in the end. So cold.”

Yun Yongzhou stroked his head and whispered, “I just felt I didn’t have the right.”

“Me too.” Wei Huan recalled the moment, like reliving a silent drama—two leads screaming behind a black curtain, but no sound came out.

“I told myself, just coming was already enough. Be content.” Wei Huan sniffled. “I thought, ‘My parents were senior government officers, you must be here on behalf of the Prime Minister’s Office.’”

“You’re better at making excuses than me.”

Wei Huan smiled. “Exactly. I can justify everything you did or didn’t do. That way, I won’t feel too sad—or too happy to the point of losing control. I might seem reckless, but I know how to endure better than anyone.”

“But even so, I still couldn’t stop myself from falling in love with you.” Wei Huan’s brow relaxed and his expression softened. “In your letters, you said you didn’t want to restrict me, didn’t want to destroy my freedom—that’s the most accepting love I’ve ever known. But do you know something?”

He raised his head, propping himself up as their eyes met in the half-lit room.

“I’ve always yearned for freedom. I never wanted to belong to anyone. I’m stubborn and proud, always wanting to protect everyone and never fall. Someone like me—when I act childish and obedient only in front of you, when I willingly become your subordinate—it’s because I want to. I want to tell you again and again,”

The stubborn glint in his eyes softened into rippling light.

“Yun Yongzhou, I am yours.”

Yun Yongzhou’s heart skipped a beat.

The freest, most unyielding soul in the world had just surrendered.

“So now you should know how much I love you.”

Yun Yongzhou reached out, cupped Wei Huan’s face, and watched him lean into the warmth of his palm. Wei Huan tilted his chin, kissed the center of his palm, then closed his eyes and whispered again,

“Even the wind, after drifting for so long, longs for a place to rest.”

“Only with you… I no longer crave freedom.” He opened his eyes. His pupils were darker than night.

“I just want to be yours.”

As he leaned in for a kiss, Yun Yongzhou realized that back then, it wasn’t that his love was incomplete—but that he lacked the courage. He always thought his flawed love didn’t deserve Wei Huan’s pure heart. He wanted to give him something whole, something better. That’s why he kept writing letters, each one meant to be more perfect than the last—but he could never send even one.

What he never expected was… while he was still trapped trying to make his love more complete, Wei Huan had already appeared—patiently and tenderly patching up every missing piece with his sincerity, passion, and unwavering resolve.

“Hold me,” Wei Huan whispered, curling into his arms, pressing against his old scar.

The next morning, Yun Yongzhou woke up groggy. Before even opening his eyes, he noticed his arms were empty. He reached out and immediately felt his hand being gently held.

He opened his eyes to see Wei Huan grinning at him, resting by the bed. “Good morning, little golden crow.”

Yun Yongzhou pinched his chin, glanced at the time—it was only 6 a.m. “So early?”

“Yup! I’ve got something super important to do today!” Wei Huan seemed full of energy, pushing him out of bed, dragging him to wash up and change. Yun Yongzhou was still dazed, feeling a little attacked. “What are you doing?”

Wei Huan lifted his chin. “It’s a secret.”

Maybe it’s a date? Yun Yongzhou thought, feeling a little flutter of excitement.

They had never gone on a proper date—not counting that night tour during the Shanhai Festival or those times when Wei Huan trespassed and Yun Yongzhou had to catch him.

“All right, let’s go!” Wei Huan clapped his hands, and a glowing blue barrier—lit by the nine-phoenix flame—appeared in front of them.

“Wait.” Yun Yongzhou paused and went back to the bedroom, walking faster than usual.

When he returned, Wei Huan saw him wearing a black hat and holding a white one—each embroidered with a tiny blue flower on the brim.

Forget-me-nots?

Before he could say anything, Yun Yongzhou placed the white hat on his head, adjusting it. “There. Done.”

Seeing the sweat gathering at the tip of Yun Yongzhou’s nose, Wei Huan couldn’t help but smile. “Let’s go then.”

The barrier took them away from home. As the blue light slowly faded, Yun Yongzhou vaguely noticed something—there were people ahead. More than one.

A voice called out clearly.

“Wei Huan!”

He heard a familiar voice. As the blue light dispersed, Yun Yongzhou saw Qing He running toward them. He looked absolutely delighted and even smiled at him. “Boss.”

It wasn’t just Qing He—Xie Tianfa was there too, smiling and looking full of energy.

Was this… a double date?

Yun Yongzhou didn’t quite get it. This wasn’t how he’d imagined things, but he could accept it.

Wei Huan immediately threw an arm around Qing He’s shoulder. “You got it all arranged for me, right?”

“You know I’m reliable,” Qing He chuckled, leading them through what looked like an old district of a city in the mortal realm. The roads twisted and turned until they finally reached the end of a narrow alley. Above the door hung a colorful curtain with four large characters: Kongtong Tavern.

This homophobic tavern again?

Yun Yongzhou was completely lost. So is this a group date or what? Why not just call up Yang Sheng, Jing Yun, Yang Ling, and Shanyue while you’re at it?

“I’m telling you, I had to pull strings through the whole organization to find this place. You better treat me to a drink,” Qing He said before they went in. “And I even convinced him. He’s actually a good guy, very reasonable.”

Wei Huan clapped Qing He on the shoulder. “You’re amazing. Deserving heir to my husband’s legacy.”

Then he pulled Yun Yongzhou inside. Mo Tong was standing behind the bar, polishing a glass. When he saw them, he looked up and called into the back, “Dad, they’re here.”

Right on cue, a man with a scar over his right eye stepped out from the kitchen, drying his hands. For once, he wasn’t drunk or angry—just said plainly, “Go lie down in the back.”

“Got it.” Wei Huan wrapped an arm around Yun Yongzhou’s and steered him in. “Let’s go, let’s go.” He coaxed Yun Yongzhou onto a bed and tried to take off his hat, but Yun Yongzhou stopped him. “Leave it.”

“Okay then.” Wei Huan took advantage of the quiet and sneaked a kiss on his cheek. “Don’t be scared, I’m right here.”

Sc-Scared?

Yun Yongzhou almost sat bolt upright.

Li Lingkong walked in and took a seat at the bedside. Mo Tong handed him a stack of pre-prepared talismans. The moment Li Lingkong activated his spiritual energy, the talismans floated up one by one, spinning in mid-air, then suddenly froze in place and formed a barrier.

Only then did he realize—there were forty-nine talismans.

The barrier emitted a blinding silver light. Yun Yongzhou closed his eyes. A pair of hands held his tightly—he didn’t need to look to know they were Wei Huan’s.

As his eyes went blank white, searing pain burst from his chest—but it didn’t last long. In the blink of an eye, the white light faded, leaving behind a dull ache.

The sharp clink of metal sounded again and again. One by one, silver needles spun in the air, guided by the yellow talismans, finally landing neatly into Li Lingkong’s hands.

Only now did Yun Yongzhou realize—Wei Huan had brought him here to extract the soul-splitting needles.

Li Lingkong wrapped the needles in a red cloth and said slowly, “Get some rest when you get home. Your demon heart will recover. But I can’t do anything about the scar.”

Wei Huan was overjoyed and helped Yun Yongzhou sit up. “That’s okay. Thank you!”

At those words of thanks, the usually cold expression on Li Lingkong’s face relaxed slightly. He coughed and looked away, forcing his face back to neutrality. “I can’t get rid of the scar on my eye either. Let’s call it even.”

Wei Huan laughed and threw a look at Mo Tong behind him. “Hey handsome, we want drinks. And that noodle dish you made last time.”

Mo Tong nodded and walked out.

The dim little tavern suddenly turned lively. Xie Tianfa blocked Qing He from drinking, so Qing He snuck sips with his back turned. Wei Huan, for good measure, called the rest of the gang too. Everyone gathered for a reunion. Mo Tong didn’t make noodles but brought out steaming hotpot, and they all sat around eating happily.

Yang Ling, distracted by chatting, failed to grab a fish ball—it slipped from her chopsticks and plopped back into the pot. “Hey, Brother Huanhuan, your hat looks just like Brother Yongzhou’s!”

Yan Shanyue fished the fish ball out and dropped it in her bowl. “They’re matching couple caps.”

Jing Yun’s eyes lit up. “Really, Ah Heng?! So cute! Who bought them—”

Yang Sheng, a little tipsy, muttered, “Don’t ask. If you must know, it was Wei Nine. Who else?”

Everyone burst out laughing. Wei Huan turned to the side and saw Yun Yongzhou quietly drinking with his head down, ears red as if they’d been dunked in the hotpot.

And then, something clicked in his heart.

The conversation soon moved on from them to asking about Qing He’s recent life. Wei Huan took the chance to nudge Yun Yongzhou. When he looked up, Wei Huan leaned close to his ear.

“Hey, were you hoping this was a date?”

Yun Yongzhou’s voice turned cold, gripping his glass so tightly his knuckles turned white. “No.”

“You totally were.” Wei Huan grabbed his wrist. “You thought I asked you out today for a date, didn’t you?”

Yun Yongzhou frowned at him, emotions clearly stirred. “No.”

Wei Huan clicked his tongue. “You’re such a tsundere, little golden crow. You know why you never caught me back then?”

“Who wanted to chase you? You were the one chasing me,” Yun Yongzhou mumbled with his head down.

Yang Sheng, sitting beside them, overheard and slurred, “Hey, you two better settle this—who chased who back then?”

“Yeah, tell us! I want gossip!”

Wei Huan smacked Yang Ling’s hand away. “Gossip what gossip? Little girls like you always meddling with your brother’s business.”

Jing Yun said, “I want to hear too! Ah Heng, can I use my eyes on you?”

“You—!”

“Hahahahahaha…”

“You guys really think you’re clever, huh? Don’t forget, I used to be the most handsome guy at Shanhai Academy. Back then, Yun Yongzhou…” Wei Huan was laughing hard, cheeks flushed. He set down his chopsticks, rubbed the sweat from his palm onto his thigh—and suddenly, his hand was caught in a tight grip under the wooden table, hidden in the bustle.

He turned his head and saw Yun Yongzhou’s profile—so striking in the warm light and steam it seemed unreal.

“I… I was first.” Wei Huan’s smile softened, the playful edge fading from his voice.

“I fell for him at first sight.”
