Everyone Is Non-Human Except Me [Rebirth] Chapter 122

Extra 5: Whistleblower

After the Soul-Splitting Needles were removed, Yun Yongzhou’s demon heart recovered quickly. Although the scar on his chest still intersected with the sun totem, Wei Huan was more than satisfied. Ever since that procedure, he’d been fixated on the idea of going on a date. Come to think of it, they had never gone on a proper, legitimate date—not in this life, nor in the last. Every time they were together, it either turned into a fight or something equally chaotic.

So he started planning the perfect date.

Though he had never been in a relationship before, Wei Huan had full confidence in his “romantic IQ.” He didn’t consult anyone, and instead spent an entire afternoon in the office devising a weekend schedule. The more he looked at it, the more pleased he was.

But who would’ve thought Shanhai would suddenly arrange some mandatory weekend faculty training seminar, where every single staff member had to attend—including the grandpa guarding the boundary ward.

“Lord Director,” Wei Huan whirled behind Yang Sheng’s heels, pestering him, “Do I really have to go? It’s not like they’ll miss just one person—come on, Director Yang…”

Yang Sheng smacked him in the face with a gust of wind. “No way. School says every staff member must attend.”

Wei Huan brushed away the wind. “I swear, I’m quitting soon.” Then, testing the waters, he added, “Maybe Yansui’s department isn’t as strict…”

“In your dreams. Fuyou’s already the most chill of the four academies. Oh, right, the new principal said they’ll be awarding you and Yun Yongzhou the Shanhai Gold Medal during the seminar. So neither of you is skipping.”

Date: canceled.

Left with no choice, Wei Huan decided to shoot for Friday afternoon instead. Even if they couldn’t spend a whole day together, a night walk would be just as good—it was their shared tradition, after all.

But wouldn’t you know it—Friday afternoon, Yansui Division was running physical evaluations for the combat trainees, and Yun Yongzhou was on duty. Four instructors and over 600 students were spread across Training Field No. 1, busy with testing.

“Rest where you are. Final group starts testing in ten minutes,” Yun Yongzhou instructed with his usual cool detachment, eyes on the data input device in his hand, not even bothering to glance up. “Leaving your spot without permission will reset your score.”

Fully absorbed in his duties, he didn’t notice that the students in line were whispering amongst themselves, passing something along. The student at the front of the line was adjusting her cuffs when she felt two taps on her back. She turned to find a red-haired girl handing her a folded blue note.

“Pass it forward,” the redhead said casually, chewing gum.

“To who?” the girl asked, puzzled. There was no one else ahead of her. She whispered, “Am I even allowed to open it…?”

“It’s fine,” the redhead said with a thumbs-up, jerking her thumb behind. “Everyone else already read it.”

The girl leaned to peek back—and sure enough, the whole line was buzzing, eyes trained forward, clearly waiting for something. She was baffled. That’s when a cold voice made her jump.

“Rested enough?”

Startled, she turned and stammered, “I-Instructor…”

Yun Yongzhou’s chilly gaze dropped to the card clenched in her hands. “What are you holding?”

Too flustered to answer, she glanced nervously behind her. Yun Yongzhou’s light cord appeared, spiraling around her hand and yanking the note out.

“A love letter?”

The students behind her erupted into a chorus: “Yeah! It’s a love letter for you, Instructor!”

With all the students laughing, Yun Yongzhou raised a brow and unfolded the note. The handwriting was wild and flamboyant—he recognized it immediately.

[Picking you up after work, husband~ —Fuyou (crossed out) Demon Realm’s #1 Hottie.]

Yun Yongzhou nearly failed to hold back a smile. He coughed into his fist, kept his composure, and coolly announced, “Time’s up. Resume testing.” He folded the card and slid it into his uniform pocket. His expression remained impassive, but his heart was lifting—like a cat pawing softly at his chest. The claws might be sharp, but they were tucked away. All he could feel was soft, warm fluff.

He did his best to focus and finish the evaluations. Surprisingly, Wei Huan didn’t stir up any more distractions—shockingly well-behaved for once. Initially, Yun Yongzhou couldn’t understand why Wei Huan had shown up early and pulled that silly note-passing stunt. If he really wanted to wait for him to get off work, he could’ve just quietly waited.

But as the clock ticked closer to the end of the shift, Yun Yongzhou gradually realized just how powerful that little prank had been. That note was like a sugary little countdown timer, filling him with giddy anticipation. It reminded him someone was waiting for him—his someone. And that person was unapologetically loud and proud about their love, wanting the whole world to see.

Wei Huan really was straightforward… and adorable.

“Entry complete. Confirmed,” the system chimed. Yun Yongzhou closed the device strapped to his wrist, clamped the whistle hanging from his chest between his lips, and blew one sharp blast. The lounging students snapped to attention in perfect formation.

But then—another whistle echoed across the field. Unlike his crisp, military one, this whistle was long, playful, full of swagger.

The students rippled like startled minnows in shallow water, immediately craning their necks toward the source. A tall figure leaned against the drill room’s entrance, orange-red sunset casting a glowing silhouette behind him. A new wave of whispering rippled through the students. Wei Huan didn’t hold back—he waved at Yun Yongzhou boldly. But halfway through his exaggerated wave, he paused as if he forgot something… and then with a flick of his hand, a bouquet of blue forget-me-nots appeared.

Seeing him acting out, Yun Yongzhou deliberately looked away, removed the whistle from his mouth, and flatly said, “Dismissed.”

The students exploded with cheers and scattered—but many lingered, especially the girls, clearly torn between admiring Instructor Yun or drooling over Instructor Wei. As they left, they gave Wei Huan high-fives and waved. One girl even shouted, “Instructor Wei, you’re so handsome!”

“D*mn right!”

“Your husband’s hot too!”

Wei Huan raised a brow. “Of course he is.”

Yun Yongzhou walked behind the group, his pale hair glowing in the twilight. In the crowd, Wei Huan reached out and caught his wrist with a grin, flashing sharp little canines.

“Off work!”

The students began teasing them again. Yun Yongzhou’s face remained stone-cold. “Want detention?”

Wei Huan grinned and tugged him close, waving the students away. “Go eat dinner before the cafeteria runs out.” Then, his fingers slipped down to interlace with Yun Yongzhou’s. He stuffed the large bouquet into his arms. “Waiting for a handsome guy to get off work is so hard. I almost had to clone myself and play mahjong.”

Yun Yongzhou kept a tight lid on his smile, letting Wei Huan tug him along. But he handed the bouquet back.

“Not happy with it?” Wei Huan asked as they walked. The bouquet vanished into thin air, replaced by a cool breeze that ruffled Yun Yongzhou’s hair. “I’ll get you real ones next time. I rushed out to see you today and totally forgot.” He gestured at himself. “Look, I didn’t even change. I guess this counts as couple wear. Couple uniforms.”

The students hadn’t all left yet. Yun Yongzhou’s palms were sweaty, and though his face was neutral, his heart was pounding. His body temperature had risen too—all because of the man beside him.

Yun Yongzhou knew it better than anyone: this man was the root cause of everything.

“Are you happy, Instructor Yun?” Wei Huan’s smile hadn’t changed a bit since he was seventeen or eighteen—sunlight poured right through it. He always looked up at him when they were alone, chin tilted, lips slightly parted, eyes brimming with affection. He swung their linked hands like a preschooler on a field trip.

“Not happy? Was I naughty?” Wei Huan still looked at him with that teasing glint. “Do you like me picking you up after work?”

Yun Yongzhou said nothing. He knew Wei Huan was testing his limits, deliberately stepping on that nerve—and that Wei Huan knew it, too. It was mutual torture, but they both liked it.

Seeing that Yun Yongzhou still wouldn’t crack, Wei Huan pouted. “Still not talking? Are you a mute?” He grabbed the whistle off Yun Yongzhou’s chest and blew softly on it. “At least the whistle gets to stay in your mou—”

Before the dirty joke could finish, a strand of light silk snapped up and wrapped tightly around his mouth.

Yun Yongzhou’s reaction was lightning-fast. Wei Huan’s eyes went wide. “Mmmph! Mmm-mmm!”

Yun Yongzhou’s face was still calm, but the sunset had turned his ears a brilliant red.

“Still want to spout nonsense?”

Wei Huan shook his head furiously.

Only then did Yun Yongzhou release the light silk—but Wei Huan still wouldn’t let go of the whistle.

“I think yours is better than mine. Let’s switch.”

“They’re the same.”

“Nope! I like yours. If you don’t give it to me, I’ll make a scene.” He bent down and bit the whistle, cheeks puffed, dark eyes full of mischief, clearly about to blow—and if that thing actually sounded off, they’d have an audience in seconds.

Yun Yongzhou tried to pull the whistle out of Wei Huan’s mouth, but the guy was biting down hard—harder than stealing a carrot from a rabbit.

“Be good.” Yun Yongzhou reached out with his left hand and ruffled Wei Huan’s hair, soothing him like he was comforting a small animal. Seeing his furrowed brows gradually smooth out, he once again pinched the end of the whistle, getting ready to pull it out.

Before he could exert any force, those lips that had been clamped tight around the whistle suddenly loosened. That taut, pink cloud of a mouth instantly relaxed—soft to the point that it made your heart ache to touch it. Yun Yongzhou’s hand was still resting on Wei Huan’s head when this comforted little creature leaned in.

In that moment, the evening wind transformed into soft, floating blue silk, lightly veiling the two faces about to meet.

And just like that—Wei Huan kissed him.

Right there, at the entrance to the training field.

It was brief, damp, and electric, leaving behind glimmering threads of evidence under the setting sun—faint, delicate filaments that snapped the moment the silk fluttered away and their faces were revealed again. The break was messy and blurred, like the crooked footprints left behind by a flustered thief.

But this thief still had the nerve to grin wickedly. “You want me to listen but won’t even kiss me? Dream on.”

He casually wiped his lips, then flicked the whistle on Yun Yongzhou’s chest with a finger. The metal glinted in the sunlight. “So this is the little treasure you’re protecting.”

Yun Yongzhou’s tongue flicked the corner of his lips—a gesture that, on his face, looked especially sexy. It made Wei Huan’s heart itch like mad. He stepped closer, leaned in next to Yun Yongzhou’s ear, and said softly, his voice laced with unshakable amusement: “What’s so great about that thing? Wouldn’t you rather treasure me, Older Brother Yongzhou?”

“If Older Brother holds me in his mouth, I’ll call out too. That whistle’s got nothing on me.”
