Everyone Is Non-Human Except Me [Rebirth] Chapter 6

The Eyes of Xihe

Unlike humans, demons didn’t distinguish gender clearly. Some, like the merfolk, didn’t even develop a defined sex until after reaching adulthood. So when it came to demon pairings, there weren’t that many rigid rules. The moment Wei Huan made that comment, the crowd burst into cheers and whistles. Shameless as ever, Wei Huan grinned and waved at the spectators.

On the viewing stand, Yang Sheng was practically ready to walk off. Same old Wei Huan—hopelessly vain and a nonstop chatterbox. Couldn’t he just fight properly for once? That mouth of his was clearly the real core of his being.

After saying that last line, Wei Huan noticed Yun Yongzhou’s aura suddenly shift—colder, enough to make him shiver. “I really meant it as a compliment, don’t get mad,” he quickly added.

Yun Yongzhou looked up, then back down. Seeing this, Wei Huan glanced up too. The giant hourglass suspended in the air had nearly emptied. If they kept stalling, it would soon be the second half. Wei Huan wasn’t done yet. Finally meeting a worthy opponent, he wanted to enjoy this fight to the fullest.

But in the brief moment he was distracted, Yun Yongzhou had already closed the distance. His steps were light and urgent, body low—moving like an assassin. Though Wei Huan was faster than most, Yun Yongzhou still landed a hit on his left ribs. A dull pain spread through his side, and he instinctively clutched his ribs, retreating two steps while mumbling:

“Ow ow ow, that was way too harsh…”

The next instant, Yun Yongzhou used his left leg as a pivot, twisting his body and launching a kick at Wei Huan’s head.

D*mn! Going all out, huh? Wei Huan ducked just in time.

Perfect opportunity.

Crouched low, Wei Huan swept his right leg toward Yun Yongzhou’s supporting foot. Yun Yongzhou noticed in time and spun his leg back, but couldn’t completely dodge. He stumbled back two steps before regaining his stance, locking eyes with Wei Huan.

Wei Huan drawled lazily, “Even if you won’t smile at me, I’ve still let you have your three moves.”

With that, he dashed forward. Even without using demonic energy, his physical abilities surpassed most of his kind—pure natural talent.

But Yun Yongzhou was no slouch either. Even though Wei Huan’s attacks were sharp and well-executed, Yun Yongzhou’s defense remained solid. Wei Huan couldn’t gain the upper hand in a short time.

Such solid defense—impressive. But Wei Huan noticed one thing: Yun Yongzhou had a preference for using his legs. Made sense—his legs were long and powerful, a big advantage. If Wei Huan wanted to win, he couldn’t let the distance widen. The closer, the better.

But he really was too good-looking. The closer he got, the better he looked. Wei Huan couldn’t bear to punch him in the face, so all his attacks were aimed at Yun Yongzhou’s waist and abdomen. Meanwhile, Yun Yongzhou pulled no punches—every strike was aimed straight at the vital points.

“The first half is almost over!”

“Come on!”

Cheers from the stands came in wave after wave. The close distance prevented Yun Yongzhou from using his leg techniques effectively, but he could also tell—Wei Huan wasn’t using his full strength either. That, in turn, excited Yun Yongzhou even more.

“The more I look at you, the better you look.” Wei Huan once again stepped in, hand reaching out to try a throat lock. “Got any sisters at home? Introduce me sometime.”

Yun Yongzhou’s eyes went cold. Taking the opportunity, he grabbed Wei Huan’s wrist and raised his leg to kick straight at his waist.

The kick landed solidly. Wei Huan doubled over in pain, his handsome face scrunched up—but he had already figured out Yun Yongzhou’s rhythm. One kick would never be the end of it. So even through the pain, he pushed off the ground with his foot, and while Yun Yongzhou’s hand was still on his wrist, he used it to vault into the air.

Time was elusive and hard to measure.

To Yun Yongzhou, the moment broke down frame by frame—he saw Wei Huan grab his hand, saw the long leg push off, twist, and rise into the air. Saw the faint smile that revealed a sharp little canine tooth.

In that frame-by-frame slow motion, Yun Yongzhou watched Wei Huan, light as a swallow, flip over his head.

To the spectators, it looked like Wei Huan had been caught by Yun Yongzhou and restrained. Who would have thought that he’d use Yun Yongzhou’s own grip to flip over—and not only that, he didn’t land on his feet, but fell straight to the ground, using his body weight to pull Yun Yongzhou down too.

He hooked both arms tightly around Yun Yongzhou from behind, locking his arms in place. His hands clung stubbornly to Yun Yongzhou’s wrists, and as he turned slightly to the side, both legs wrapped tightly around Yun Yongzhou’s waist—just like a shameless, clingy koala.

Completely entangled on the ground, Yun Yongzhou had never anticipated such a tactic. His brows furrowed, and just as he was about to forcefully break free—

The whistle blew.

“End of the first half—” The drum sounded again, the floating mallets striking faster and faster until the final thump rang out and fell silent. Dean Lin Zhengze’s snowy tiger tail swept out as he raised the flag and slashed it downward. “Both sides are tied. Proceed to round two.”

“Both of them are incredible. The new students this year are something else.”

“That was just the appetizer.”

“Exactly. Neither of them even used their demon power. A Nine Phoenix versus a Golden Crow—I can’t wait!”

Wei Huan seemed quite pleased with the tie, still holding on and forgetting to let go—until he heard a cold, deep voice.

“Let go.”

It was Yun Yongzhou’s first time speaking.

For some reason, the usually unflappable Wei Huan was momentarily tongue-tied. Normally, he’d grin and say something like, “Nope, not letting go.” But now, he just froze a little. Yun Yongzhou’s voice echoed in his head—not just two words, but like a cold cloud drifting down to settle on his heart, turning into a shard of ice lodged deep inside.

Wei Huan released his grip. Yun Yongzhou stood and silently walked to the other side of the ring.

Even his voice sounds good—if only he wasn’t so cold. Wei Huan stood up too, clapping dust off his hands as he watched Yun Yongzhou’s back.

Is this really the Golden Crow? Wasn’t the Golden Crow the son of the sun?

What kind of sun is this cold?

During the brief intermission, Wei Huan stretched his legs and twisted his waist, but his eyes never left Yun Yongzhou’s face—so beautiful, so aloof. Yun Yongzhou, however, never once looked back. His gaze remained distant and unfocused.

Yang Sheng had looked into Yun Yongzhou’s past matches before the tournament. After all, anyone who made it to the finals must be the real deal. But there wasn’t much to find—because in nearly half of Yun Yongzhou’s wins, he hadn’t even used magic.

In other words, just like Wei Huan, Yun Yongzhou could defeat opponents purely with close combat. And Yang Sheng also learned that Yun Yongzhou, like Wei Huan, had a hyrbid ability.

“Ah Huan, be careful in the second half. Don’t joke around too much. Fight more steadily.”

Hearing Yang Sheng’s advice, Wei Huan laughed with his head tipped back. “I know. He’s not an easy opponent. I won’t underestimate him.”

“He’s a fire-type demon,” Yang Sheng warned. “And you’re naturally afraid of fire. Be extra careful later.”

Wei Huan nodded. He might fear fire, but it wouldn’t cause irreversible damage—it was more a psychological fear. Still, he had always had confidence in his abilities. “Don’t worry, I’ll find a way.”

During the intermission, the girls in the audience kept their eyes on the two in the ring.

“That red-clad little Nine Phoenix is really so handsome. When he smiles, it’s like the sun.”

“I like the guy in black. Is he the Golden Crow? The original Golden Crow was divine. His aura is amazing.”

“Watching this whole match, I’ve realized one thing: the stronger someone is, the better they look.”

“Right? The hotter they are, the more powerful they are.”

The drumbeat started again.

“Second half—begin!”

With a loud whoosh, massive black wings suddenly unfurled from Wei Huan’s back. “Ugh, I was suffocating.” With a few flaps, the wings stirred up a small storm in the arena. Yun Yongzhou’s black shirt billowed in the wind, and his dark brown hair was blown back, revealing a thumb-sized red flame-shaped birthmark on his left temple.

“Come on, Golden Crow.” Blue demon marks began appearing in three streaks across Wei Huan’s right cheek. He smirked with a mischievous glint. “Son of the sun.”

Yun Yongzhou also spread a pair of snow-white wings behind him. The whirlwind he stirred up was every bit as fierce as Wei Huan’s.

Gasps rose from the crowd.

“Aren’t the Golden Crow’s wings all supposed to be black?”

“Yeah! I remember the Penglai Golden Crows all had black feathers.”

“They say this Yun Yongzhou is the only white-feathered Golden Crow of his clan—a reincarnation of the original Golden Crow.”

“So powerful…”

The original Golden Crow? That’s intense. Wei Huan flapped his wings a few times, kicking up another burst of wind. Unlike most wind-type demons, he could materialize wind into shapes through the movement of his wings. The strength, hardness, and duration still needed refinement, but even so—it was an extremely rare ability.

“Actually,” Wei Huan hovered midair, one brow raised, “I’m always gentle with good-looking people. If you give in now and call me Brother Huan, then I might just—”

Before he could finish, two fireballs flew toward him. He twisted left and right to dodge them just in time. Wei Huan pouted like a sulking child, “Hey! You’re way too fierce. Didn’t your mom teach you to let people finish talking before attacking?”

Watching from the stands, Yang Sheng couldn’t help but shake his head. “We’d be waiting forever if we let you finish….”

All eyes followed the two figures as they ascended into the sky, necks craned to keep up with the escalating battle. Yun Yongzhou, also airborne, held flames in both hands and silently charged toward Wei Huan. In the blink of an eye, a barrage of flames surged forth like a tidal wave. This wasn’t the kind of performance you’d expect in a freshman tournament—it was far more intense.

“Golden Crow is way too strong. His fire control is top-tier.”

“Both Golden Crow and Nine Phoenix are powerhouses. They’re ranked near the top of the Hundred Demon List.”

Wei Huan flapped his left wing sharply, summoning a surge of wind that formed a wall, halting the oncoming flames midair.

“It’s a wind array! Wei Nine turned wind into a barrier to block Yun Yongzhou’s fire!”

“D*mn, I never thought I’d get to see the Nine Phoenix clan’s secret technique live! This is insane!”

“Isn’t that General Wei Qingyun’s ability? I heard he could turn wind into blades and hold off thousands on the battlefield!”

“Yeah, that’s Wei Huan, his son. He inherited his father’s ability to turn wind into substance.”

The wind wall wasn’t permanent—it could only hold for a while. But Yun Yongzhou’s flames were seemingly endless. His pure white wings flared toward Wei Huan, launching a massive curtain of fire. Even through the wind wall, the scorching heat made it feel like Wei Huan’s skin would melt off.

The demonic patterns on Wei Huan’s face grew bluer, his pupils starting to glow faintly with the same hue as his body underwent further demonization.

“As expected of a Golden Crow,” Wei Huan chuckled. As his wings flapped again, a glacier rose from the ground, glowing with an eerie blue light. Though wind is usually formless, this ice peak solidified into something real, successfully blocking the firestorm.

The crowd erupted, excitement boiling over.

“I heard before that these kinds of abilities have levels. Some people can barely shape wind, but stronger ones can actually give it form. I always thought it was a rumor, but it’s real!”

“I can’t even see the other side anymore! Can he really turn wind into anything?”

Yun Yongzhou narrowed his eyes. The icy prism had obscured Wei Huan’s figure, but then—his flames suddenly vanished.

His hand clenched into a fist.

“Did the Golden Crow put out his fire? Is he surrendering?”

“That can’t be right. He hasn’t even launched a real attack yet.”

“Look—look up!”

Yun Yongzhou swung his arm. Countless golden light blades rained from the sky, piercing into the ice peak with terrifying force.

In an instant, cracks spiderwebbed through the glacier. With a sharp shattering sound, the golden light refracted off the fragments, becoming even more blinding. The towering wall of ice crumbled apart.

“No way Wei Nine’s getting out of that.”

“Don’t be so sure.”

“Holy cr*p, Yun Yongzhou’s last move was made of light! That’s one of the rarest elements. I heard only the First Generation Golden Crow had light abilities. The rest could only control fire. Wei Nine’s done for.”

“Wait—Wei Nine…!”

The collapsed glacier dissolved into wind again, and behind it—nine identical Wei Huan figures emerged. Same black wings, same cocky smile, but this time, his demon markings and originally black pupils had all turned blue. The Nine Phoenix clan crest on his collarbone glowed with a deep blue light.

Nine identical figures floated midair—it looked like stepping into a prism maze.

“That’s his second inherited ability?”

“Yeah, it’s his mother Lin Shuang’s Soul-Splitting Clone Technique.”

All nine Wei Huans spoke at once, their sharp canines glinting with demonic energy, “I like that look on your face—like you’re not surprised at all.”

In the next moment, all nine flapped their wings, generating wind nine times stronger than before. The audience in the stands was hit so hard they couldn’t keep their eyes open.

Yun Yongzhou’s wings buckled in the gale, becoming more of a hindrance than a help. He folded them and landed, driving a golden spear into the ground to steady himself.

Wei Huan flapped again, doubling the wind’s strength. The school flags were all blown away. People in the stands shielded their eyes and faces.

Just as the tides seemed to turn again—

Yun Yongzhou, who had kept his head down, suddenly looked up and locked eyes with him.

“Wei Huan!”

Yang Sheng’s voice rang out from the stands. “That’s the Eye of Xihe!”

The Eye of Xihe?

His eyes—Wei Huan finally noticed. Yun Yongzhou’s once indifferent eyes had turned golden, flickering with the sun’s totem.

Before Wei Huan could react, fire and light blades encircled him—or more accurately, encircled the one real body among the nine clones. The searing flames surged inches from his face, the blaze reflecting in his blue pupils. A sharp blade of light hovered at his throat, mere millimeters from plunging in.

Impossible.

“How did you recognize me at a glance?”
