Chapter 39
Although Yuwen Min didn’t understand the first part of the sentence, he did understand the latter part.
Initially, he was skeptical about Zhaoyun’s words.
The young lady came to him angrily, claiming that his future Wang Fei was openly indulging himself in broad daylight, drinking and making merry with several strong men.
Although he had scolded the girl and told her to return to the princess’s mansion to rest, he couldn’t shake off his concern and came over to check on it.
Lu Hanzhi, a Xiao Langjun, was allowed to drink, but he should do so behind closed doors to avoid trouble.
As expected, when he arrived, he found that Lu Hanzhi was drunk. Nothing had gone wrong, but the situation was… well, what he said was far from reasonable.
He noticed that He Ming, standing nearby, also looked horrified, nearly dropping to his knees in front of Yuwen Min.
Yuwen Min’s expression darkened, as though a storm were brewing. He had just reprimanded Zhaoyun for spreading rumors, but now, seeing Lu Hanzhi in this state and hearing what he was saying, he found no reason to defend him.
Yuwen Min picked him up and said to He Ming, “You go out for now. I’ll handle this.”
He Ming, as if pardoned, bowed his head and left.
Although he was just a young servant in the household, he was still a man, and this was no time for jokes.
Since Prince An had arrived, it was only fitting that the matter be handed over to him.
The two of them were already betrothed, and though it might not be by the book, it was the most proper course of action at the moment.
Yuwen Min carried Lu Hanzhi to the inner chamber and threw him onto the bed, his expression still dark. “How much did you drink?”
Lu Hanzhi was still able to understand, holding up one finger and replying, “One… jar?”
It seemed that the wine jar in the courtyard earlier held about three jin of alcohol.
Yuwen Min settled him down, covered him with a blanket, and was about to leave to have someone prepare a hangover remedy.
Unexpectedly, his sleeve was pulled. Lu Hanzhi, being drunk, was unusually clingy, his face flushed and looking somewhat endearing.
Unfortunately, Yuwen Min’s usual cold demeanor was unresponsive to such gestures. His face was as dark as thunderclouds.
He couldn’t do anything about the clingy, somewhat affectionate young man and had no choice but to let him hold onto his sleeve, babbling incoherently. “Young master… I have a narrow waist, but my skills are great. If you sleep with me once, you won’t lose out. Sleep with me twice, and you’ll earn big!”
“Why are you looking at me like that? I’ve kept myself pure for twenty years, I’m clean and devoted. If you didn’t look decent, I wouldn’t even bother with you.”
“Speaking of purity, what’s the point? In the end, I’ve never even lost my first night. What about the saying ‘to win a person’s heart, to never part till old age’? Who takes that seriously anymore?”
At this point, Lu Hanzhi started to sob, saying, “I’ve seen too many ungrateful, heartless people, too many lovers who break up and separate… Life! We should live for the moment.”
Yuwen Min stood still, letting him vent his drunken frustration.
He felt some sympathy for him. After all, Lu Hanzhi had fallen in love with someone only to be abandoned. That was a sad situation.
Being drunk and venting was understandable.
Yuwen Min said, “Rest for a bit. Stop causing trouble, or you might hurt yourself.”
Lu Hanzhi shook his head, becoming even more reckless.
“Don’t act so serious! Come, come, let me teach you… let’s go to the Mountain of Witchcraft…”
Saying this, he climbed onto Yuwen Min’s shoulder, closed his beautiful, seductive eyes, and without hesitation, pressed his lips against Yuwen Min’s perfectly cold and sharp ones.
Yuwen Min froze. As Lu Hanzhi’s playful tongue pushed into his mouth, Yuwen Min suddenly shoved him away, looking at the man who, after being pushed off, had calmed down and was now hugging a pillow, looking ready to sleep. His eyes were full of complicated thoughts.
He clenched his fist, realizing that it was pointless to argue with someone who was drunk, let alone fight with a Xiao Langjun.
Lu Hanzhi no longer cried or caused a scene, instead muttering to himself while hugging the pillow.
“It’s so hard… I’m so done… Stupid system! Why don’t you do this mission yourself?”
Yuwen Min didn’t catch the latter part of his words. His mind was still a bit foggy, but he knew enough to step out and have someone prepare a hangover remedy for Lu Hanzhi.
Luan Feng brought the remedy. Yuwen Min helped Lu Hanzhi sit up to drink it.
After drinking the soup, Lu Hanzhi fell asleep soundly. Seeing him rest peacefully without any signs of being stirred up by the alcohol, Yuwen Min felt relieved and left the room.
Before leaving, he instructed Luan Feng and Qin Se, “Keep an eye on his room. Don’t let anyone in. If he starts acting out again, you two handle it, and have a servant guard the door. Also, take the drunk men home. If Wang Fei acts this way again, send someone to notify me. I’ll come personally to persuade him.”
Luan Feng and Qin Se nodded and bowed as they saw Prince An off.
Yuwen Min paused, turned around, and said, “Forget it. Prepare a guest room for me. I’ll stay here tonight.”
Luan Feng hurriedly instructed someone to prepare a room for the prince, while Qin Se stayed behind to watch over Lu Hanzhi.
That night, Lu Hanzhi slept soundly, as if the drunken episode had allowed him to release some of his pent-up emotions.
Behind his seemingly carefree appearance, he actually had a serious and determined heart.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been so cautious in his steps, afraid of confronting the heroine before he was fully ready.
In the middle of the night, he woke up. Leaning against the bedpost, Lu Hanzhi reflected, wondering if he had gone a bit too far.
His head was throbbing, and his mind was still foggy.
He vaguely remembered that he had drunk too much and had forced someone onto him, but now he wasn’t sure if it had been a dream.
Wine was a good thing, but it definitely shouldn’t be overdone.
While he was deep in thought, he suddenly heard a voice, “You’re awake?”
Lu Hanzhi nearly jumped out of bed in fright. After seeing who it was, he immediately patted his chest in relief.
Then, he asked in confusion, “Prince An? How come you’re here?”
Yuwen Min stepped into the light and replied, “Someone reported that Prince An’s Wang Fei’s behavior was inappropriate. He was drinking and celebrating with a group of peasant men in broad daylight.”
Lu Hanzhi: …
Who would be so bored?
It couldn’t be Su Wan’ning, could it?
Seeing Lu Hanzhi rub his temples, Yuwen Min frowned and asked, “Are you feeling that bad?”
Lu Hanzhi waved his hand, but then he noticed a bruise on Yuwen Min’s lips and asked curiously, “Your Highness, what happened to your lips? Did you bite them or something?”
Yuwen Min, after holding back for a while, finally replied, “I accidentally bit them.”
Lu Hanzhi looked at him with a confused expression and said, “Huh?”
Yuwen Min thought he didn’t know which idiot had bitten him.
Lu Hanzhi, on the other hand, clicked his tongue in amazement. The future tyrant really was different, huh! He could even bite himself for fun.
Yuwen Min didn’t feel like arguing with him over this and just said, “You should be aware of your body. Don’t drink too much alcohol.”
Lu Hanzhi massaged his temples and, for once, obediently replied, “I know… I just haven’t had a drink in a long time. I wanted to let loose a bit. After all, one can’t stay on edge all the time; everyone needs a way to release some pressure.”
Yuwen Min understood his feelings and sympathized deeply with his situation.
He nodded slightly before asking, “What is it about your… big pig’s trotters that made you fall for him?”
Lu Hanzhi looked up, confused. “Huh?”
Yuwen Min felt a bit awkward and explained, “If you like him, surely there must be something extraordinary about him, right?”
Lu Hanzhi didn’t know how to answer. After all, he had made up the story. How would he know what was so remarkable about that person?
But no matter! He was good at improvising.
So, Lu Hanzhi’s expression shifted to one of admiration and longing as he began, “When I first saw him, it was on a misty, drizzly day. From a distance, I saw him in white clothes, with his bright hair shining in the light. He seemed calm and composed, a gentleman, with the ambition of a young scholar. After meeting him a few more times, I began to understand him better and started to develop feelings for him. I love his noble temperament, like a pine tree standing tall, I love his red plum character, I love his grandeur, like towering mountains, and I love his tenderness, like a small river flowing with gentle ripples through my dreams…”
At this point, Lu Hanzhi suddenly stopped, his face falling in disappointment.
“No matter how much I loved him, it couldn’t surpass… the words of a man’s ambition to travel the world, disregarding any romantic entanglements.”
The system, which usually kept quiet, couldn’t hold back anymore and spoke up.
“…Host, you’re amazing!” This drama queen was truly one of a kind.
Lu Hanzhi muttered to himself, “What business is it of yours! It’s just a matter of reciting a few song lyrics!”
Yuwen Min, on the other side, listened quietly. After a moment, he spoke up, “The more deeply you care for him, the more sorrowful you become now. Let it go.”
Lu Hanzhi smiled helplessly, “I can’t let go even if I want to.”
Yuwen Min then asked, “Does he know that you had a child for him?”
Lu Hanzhi shook his head.
Yuwen Min asked again, “Why not tell him?”
A look of helplessness and resignation appeared on Lu Hanzhi’s face.
“Why tell him? To trap him with a child? If he doesn’t want to stay, why force him? You can’t hold onto sand, so better to let it go.”
System: “…Ah!”
Yuwen Min’s face showed no clear expression, but his gaze at Lu Hanzhi grew much deeper.
Perhaps he realized he had never truly understood him before, but now he could finally see things clearly.
Yuwen Min spoke, “Since you care for him so deeply, if one day he returns to find you, zi will prepare a great gift and see you both live happily ever after.”
Lu Hanzhi was deeply moved and replied, “Thank you, Your Highness. If there’s anything Your Highness needs, I’ll do my best to assist.”
Yuwen Min nodded and said, “There is indeed something I need your help with.”
Lu Hanzhi asked, “Oh? What is it?”
Yuwen Min replied, “Although my imperial brother’s marriage to County Princess Zhaoyun was delayed due to matters in Dongying and the Northern Border, they may be able to avoid it for now, but not forever. Now that Second Brother Lu and my eldest brother… have a child, we need to find a way for them to marry.”
Lu Hanzhi thought for a moment before answering, “This matter is easy in some ways, but difficult in others. It all depends on whether His Highness is willing to take the plunge.”
Yuwen Min asked, “Oh? Tell me more.”
Lu Hanzhi said, “Your Highness! Was it County Princess Zhaoyun who came to report to you?”
Yuwen Min didn’t speak, as he thought reporting this way wasn’t right, and didn’t want the young lady to gain a bad reputation.
Lu Hanzhi continued, “If I’m not mistaken, someone must have brought her to my estate, right? Your Highness, County Princess Zhaoyun doesn’t care for the Eldest Prince; she’s in love with you, isn’t she?”
Yuwen Min furrowed his brows, suddenly realizing what Lu Hanzhi was implying. This guy had no good intentions.
Sure enough, Lu Hanzhi went on, “If you’re willing to take the plunge, you should go to the Emperor and ask for permission to marry County Princess Zhaoyun, making me a concubine. This way, the Eldest Prince will be freed from his troubles.”
Yuwen Min could already tell that this was a terrible idea.
He helplessly gave Lu Hanzhi a glance and said, “I personally think it would be better for the two of us to marry soon, to prevent you from coming up with any more absurd schemes.”
Lu Hanzhi, who had originally intended to set a trap for Yuwen Min, was left bewildered. “???”
