How to Deal with Having the Villainous Tyrant’s Child Chapter 84

Chapter 84

Lu Hanzhi abruptly stood up and asked, “What happened?”

Wet Nurse Liu, drenched in sweat from panic, replied, “There’s no time to explain! Hurry, hurry—call Doctor Lin now!”

Prince Chu dared not delay. He immediately got up to summon Doctor Lin, while Lu Hanzhi, carrying Ah Chan, followed closely behind.

They all boarded a carriage and rushed toward the Crown Prince’s residence.

There was quite a distance between the Eastern and Western Markets. On her way over, Wet Nurse Liu Liu had already instructed a few trusted guards to stand watch, strictly forbidding anyone from entering—including the Crown Prince himself.

If anyone dared to force their way in, they were to block them with their lives. Any consequences would be borne by the Princess’s residence.

Among the dozen or so guards, some were personally assigned by the Princess’s estate, while others had been secretly placed by Yuwen Min.

On the way, Lu Hanzhi asked, “Wasn’t the County Princess strictly instructed to avoid any contact with Su Wan’ning and to never step out of her room alone?” Su Wan’ning had suffered a crushing defeat last time, and a cornered dog was bound to bite. There was no telling what she might do.

Wet Nurse Liu Liu sighed and said, “I’ve been watching over her carefully. But today, Lord Lu suddenly barged into the County Princess’s chambers. He’s in charge of the household’s inner affairs, so occasionally, he consults the County Princess on domestic matters. I thought it was just another routine report and didn’t give it much thought, so I allowed him in. But for some reason, Lord Lu suddenly lost his mind and lunged at the County Princess like a madman! He was holding a dagger and went straight for her stomach! Luckily, I managed to stop him. But the County Princess is delicate—how could she dodge in time? She fell straight to the ground, and then her stomach started to hurt.”

Lu Hanzhi glanced at Wet Nurse Liu Liu and noticed her instinctively clutching her waist. He frowned and asked, “Are you injured?”

Wet Nurse Liu Liu waved her hand dismissively and said, “It’s just a minor wound—nothing serious. Lord Lu’s dagger scratched me.”

Doctor Lin opened his medicine box and handed her a bottle of medicinal powder. “This is for stopping the bleeding. Apply it when you return.”

Wet Nurse Liu Liu thanked him, and soon, the carriage stopped at the back entrance of the Crown Prince’s residence.

Prince Chu remained in the carriage, but Lu Hanzhi, still holding Ah Chan, stepped inside.

Prince Chu frowned and said, “Hanzhi, you… you really shouldn’t go in.”

Lu Hanzhi replied firmly, “I have to. Even if I don’t, I can’t stay uninvolved any longer.”

His confrontation with Su Wan’ning was inevitable—there was no avoiding it.

Prince Chu understood that although Lu Hanzhi appeared gentle and easygoing on the surface, deep down, he had an unshakable resolve.

He turned to Master Lin and said, “Brother Lin, please take care of Hanzhi for me.”

Doctor Lin said nothing—he simply nodded.

Lu Hanzhi found it odd. Why was Doctor Lin assigned to protect him? Was this physician actually a hidden martial arts expert?

They hurried inside. After taking just a few steps, they saw Su Wan’ning standing there with a group of people, confronting several guards from the inner court.

Several of the County Princess’s personal attendants had already collapsed, with only the men Yuwen Min had placed there still standing.

Upon closer inspection, it became clear that those men were blind.

Lu Hanzhi had previously warned Yuwen Min that sometimes, eyes were the easiest thing to deceive.

These blind warriors were originally meant for special tasks, but Yuwen Min had urgently reassigned them to protect County Princess Zhaoyun.

Su Wan’ning was having a headache over this. She had never expected the County Princess’s guards to include blind swordsmen.

She quickly stepped forward to halt the standoff and said, “Brave warriors, I am only concerned for the County Princess’s safety. Why are you blocking my way?”

The men across from her were like emotionless machines, simply repeating the same phrase: “Our master ordered us to protect the County Princess. No one is allowed to approach her chamber.”

Su Wan’ning let out a frustrated laugh. “I am the Crown Prince’s side consort! Do you really think I would harm my own sister? I have brought a physician. If my sister loses her child, can you bear that responsibility?”

The guards remained silent. It was Lu Hanzhi who finally spoke. “That won’t be necessary, Side Consort Wan. The County Princess has her own physician.”

Doctor Lin stepped forward, and the blind swordsmen instinctively stepped aside.

He didn’t say a single word. Completely ignoring Su Wan’ning, he pushed the door open and entered County Princess Zhaoyun’s room.

Lu Hanzhi had intended to carry Ah Chan inside as well, but Su Wan’ning blocked his way.

Lu Hanzhi looked at Su Wan’ning, his gaze so captivating that even she—who prided herself on having unrivaled beauty—felt ashamed in comparison.

Su Wan’ning smiled at him gently and said, “Cousin, how have you and little nephew been lately?”

Lu Hanzhi returned her smile, but his voice was icy: “Quite well. Thanks to you, cousin, we’re still alive and well.”

Su Wan’ning’s expression changed for a brief moment, but she quickly recovered and smiled again. “What brings you here today? Paying a visit to my home?”

Lu Hanzhi stared at her for a long moment before suddenly smirking. He said, “Oh? Your home? Ah, I almost forgot. You are now the Crown Prince’s side consort. But… I was invited here by the Crown Princess, County Princess Zhaoyun. And yet, you’re the one blocking my way. Seeing you dressed so lavishly in silk and jewelry, one might mistake you for the Crown Princess herself.”

“You—!” Su Wan’ning’s expression darkened instantly. He was mocking her—ridiculing her for being a side consort yet acting as if she had the authority of the primary wife.

Lu Hanzhi merely let out a cold scoff, bypassed her entirely, and stepped into County Princess Zhaoyun’s chamber.

Inside, Doctor Lin was already performing acupuncture treatment on County Princess Zhaoyun. Her complexion didn’t look great, but her spirits seemed intact.

When she saw Lu Hanzhi enter, she nodded at him and gestured for the maid beside her to bring him a chair.

Lu Hanzhi didn’t sit. He stepped forward and asked, “How is she? Is it serious?”

Doctor Lin gave a simple three-word response: “It can be saved.”

Both Lu Hanzhi and County Princess Zhaoyun let out a breath of relief at those words.

Lu Hanzhi then asked, “What about Lu Haozhi? I need to ask him a few questions.”

At that moment, Wet Nurse Liu, who had just finished applying medicine, returned and replied, “Lord Lu was just beaten by the Crown Prince and locked up in the woodshed.”

Lu Hanzhi turned back to County Princess Zhaoyun and asked, “Did he suddenly go mad and lunge at you?”

County Princess Zhaoyun thought for a moment before answering, “Yes… but I found it strange.”

Lu Hanzhi asked, “What was strange about it?”

As she pondered, she explained, “He originally came to ask whether I wanted to replace the winter charcoal in my chamber with the fruitwood charcoal that has recently become popular in the capital. He had initially planned to make the change on his own but hesitated because of my pregnancy—he was afraid the faint fruity scent might not sit well with me. We barely exchanged a few words. In the middle of the conversation, he suddenly pulled out a dagger and attacked me. It was truly bizarre!”

Lu Hanzhi nodded slightly, then asked, “Since you entered the Crown Prince’s residence, has Lu Haozhi behaved normally?”

County Princess Zhaoyun replied, “To be honest, he has always been very cautious in the Crown Prince’s household—probably because his status here is the lowest. The Crown Prince doesn’t like him and visits his chamber only once or twice a month. Most of the time, he stays in Side Consort Wan’s quarters… Even last time, when he caused a commotion in the residence, I thought it was strange. He had always been careful and reserved, yet suddenly, he acted out and even injured Side Consort Wan. The Crown Prince put him under house arrest for a while but eventually released him and let him continue managing the inner residence. He may not be particularly talented, but he is diligent in his duties. After all, Side Consort Wan is always running around outside, and I’m not in a position to handle household matters. So even though he caused trouble twice, the Crown Prince didn’t punish him too harshly. Instead, he visited his chamber twice. This time, however, was truly unexpected. It’s as if he’s possessed.”

Lu Hanzhi understood. He slowly nodded.

County Princess Zhaoyun took out her waist token and handed it to him. “Take this and go see him.”

Lu Hanzhi accepted the token, and Wet Nurse Liu led him to the woodshed.

As soon as he pushed open the door, the damp cold inside made him involuntarily shiver.

Lu Haozhi had been beaten so severely that both his legs were broken. Blood stained the corners of his lips, and he lay in utter disgrace on a pile of straw.

The last time Lu Hanzhi had seen someone in this state was when he visited his mother, Aunt Du.

Aunt Du was still confined to one of Lu Hanzhi’s estates. Whether due to trauma or something else, she had remained insane and incoherent.

Lu Hanzhi had initially planned to send her away, but since she neither caused trouble nor made a fuss, merely wandering the courtyard aimlessly, he had simply assigned a few people to watch over her and left it at that.

The woodshed smelled foul, and Lu Haozhi, seemingly uncomfortable, had vomited all over the floor.

When he saw someone enter, he weakly lifted his head. Upon recognizing Lu Hanzhi, his eyes lit up, and he propped himself up, dragging his crippled legs forward as if grasping at his last hope.

“Hanzhi… Third Brother! I was wrong, I know I was wrong! I miss Father… I just want to go to my mother’s grave and pay my respects! I want to go home, please, I beg you, let me go home!”

As he spoke, Lu Haozhi dragged himself forward, kneeling with difficulty and bowing his head in a desperate plea.

Lu Hanzhi frowned and took a step back. “…What on earth is going on with you?”

Lu Haozhi had once been the fourth young master of the Lu family—a legitimate noble, despite being born of a concubine. How grand and glorious he had been.

Yet now, in the Crown Prince’s residence, he had been reduced to this.

Without a backing and with a low status, though he managed the household affairs, he was constantly at the mercy of others.

The Crown Prince disliked him, while Su Wan’ning used him time and again for her schemes. The repeated psychological torment had left him looking neither like a man nor a ghost.

There was nothing left of the once-proud fourth young master of the Lu family.

Lu Hanzhi asked, “Why did you try to assassinate County Princess Zhaoyun?”

Lu Haozhi trembled and shook his head frantically, his eyes wide with terror. He repeatedly denied it, “I didn’t! I didn’t! When I woke up, I was already here! I only remember entering County Princess Zhaoyun’s chamber—but I never tried to kill her! I didn’t cause any trouble! I didn’t even touch Side Consort Wan’s dress! None of this was me! I didn’t do any of it!”

After so many instances of mental torment, his mind had probably already shattered.

But Lu Hanzhi felt no pity for him. The consequences he faced now were entirely of his own making.

Just like his mother.

He could have lived as a wealthy, idle nobleman, but instead, he had chosen to throw himself into this pit of power struggles.

And in the end, he wouldn’t even know how he had died.

He clutched his own collar and said, “Third Brother, back then, I was the one who told Father about you. I couldn’t stand that you were always ahead of me in everything. But I never wanted to take your life. I was just petty and jealous, but I am not a truly malicious or ruthless person. I can’t stay in the Crown Prince’s residence any longer. Please, Third Brother, save my life and ask Father to arrange another marriage for me! Even if it’s to a commoner, a laborer, a bricklayer—I won’t mind!”

If a Xiao Langjun had no official marriage arrangement, things could easily go wrong on such matters.

Lu Hanzhi, however, looked down at him from above and said, “You’re pregnant. Do you know that?”

I think MC should feel some pity for his half brother. The imperial decree had came. If he didn’t go, the fourth brother had to go. But maybe not, because his fourth brother wasn’t forced.
