Chapter 211
Because of Pei Jin and the Third Prince’s sudden involvement, Chu Lishu’s carefully crafted script underwent changes. Perhaps Chu Lishu didn’t anticipate that Pei Jin would be vigilant against the Eldest Prince from the beginning.
Although she didn’t foresee everything as early as Chu Lishu did, Pei Jin kept a watchful eye. It wasn’t until they arrived at the hunting grounds that the Eldest Prince’s behavior became unrestrained, and Huo Luo stopped concealing anything for him. With everyone’s attention focused on the hunting grounds, Pei Jin, who had been observing the Eldest Prince closely, finally arrived at the correct answer regarding the rebellion and informed the Third Prince.
The Third Prince learned that the Eldest Prince had only taken a small group through the mountain pass and that there was explosives in the camp. Naturally, he saw an opportunity to seize the moment and showcase his prowess in front of the courtiers once again, overshadowing Yuan Ye. If he succeeded, his position would become even more unassailable.
Lin Qingyang and Yue Chen both knew that not only could Huo Luo not die, but the Eldest Prince also couldn’t die here for the time being, as Chu Lishu still needed him later.
So, they had to stop the Third Prince’s actions.
The two rode horses to the vicinity of the mountain pass entrance, where they could vaguely see people. Yue Chen directly stopped Lin Qingyang and said, “I’ll go alone. If I haven’t returned in the time it takes to drink half a cup of tea, you immediately turn back and find Chu Lishu, tell him about the situation here. Maybe he’ll have other ways.”
“Are you worried the Third Prince won’t agree?” Lin Qingyang understood.
Yue Chen nodded, not wasting any more words, and rode off directly.
Lin Qingyang gritted his teeth. In truth, both he and Yue Chen knew that, considering the marching speed, even if they were to go find Chu Lishu now and let him figure out a solution, it would be too late. At most, the time it takes to drink half a cup of tea. They had to stop the Third Prince. Yue Chen must have intended to persuade him himself, and if that failed, then they would have to come up with another plan.
For Lin Qingyang to go find Chu Lishu was simply a last resort. Perhaps Chu Lishu could work miracles. After all, most of those around Chu Lishu had an instinctive, bottomless trust in him.
By doing so, they would also be giving Chu Lishu a heads-up. In case of a real landslide, whether Huo Luo and the Eldest Prince could survive would be left to fate. Their priority was to find help as soon as possible. Even if they encountered danger, timely rescue might still be possible.
Meanwhile, Yue Chen had already reached the Third Prince’s camp. He had chosen his words carefully. Upon seeing the Third Prince, he went straight to the point: “Your Highness, I’m here to bring you the latest news. The Eldest Prince is about to lead his men through the mountain pass, with General Huo chasing after him. It’s too dangerous here for combat. Your Highness should retreat to the forest ahead and coordinate with General Huo to launch a pincer attack.”
The Third Prince’s expression changed several times, and he suddenly said, “How is that possible? Isn’t my eldest brother with General Zhao? General Huo should be training troops outside the city. Lord Yue, this information must be wrong. Please don’t disturb us from our duty to protect His Majesty. If rebels break in, it will surely alarm the Emperor.”
“But His Majesty intends to capture the Eldesr Prince alive, so my suggestion just now is still the most reliable, isn’t it?” Yue Chen replied coldly. In reality, they couldn’t go to the Emperor and reveal the situation here. The Emperor was not as easily deceived as the Third Prince. If they spoke up, it would undoubtedly arouse suspicion and questioning. Therefore, they could only deceive the Third Prince for now.
“I’m just responsible for guarding this place, to prevent anyone from taking advantage of it. And… His Majesty intends to personally capture him, not necessarily to spare his life. His Majesty detests nothing more than his own sons rebelling. And unfortunately, the Eldest Prince is the most rebellious one. If he ends up getting himself killed, he has no one to blame but himself.”
Yue Chen and Huo Luo have been reluctant to submit to the Third Prince. In fact, the Third Prince has long held a grudge against the two of them and has been waiting for an opportunity to deal with them.
When the time comes, he can simply say he didn’t mean it, and his merit in protecting the prince will naturally prevent anyone from blaming him. After all, this place is indeed outside Zhao Cheng’s protection zone, and it’s unclear what will happen with Huo Luo’s pursuit.
Yue Chen saw that reasoning with the Third Prince was futile and didn’t want to waste any more time. He immediately rode his horse towards the mountains. The Third Prince, fearing for his own safety, would have placed the explosives far from this area. If an explosion occurred, Yue Chen would suffer minimal impact compared to others who hadn’t yet entered the mountains. He needed to find Huo Luo as quickly as possible. Carrying the life-saving medicine given by Lin Qingyang, he couldn’t think of any other way. He had to try this.
The Third Prince observed this scene but didn’t intervene. If someone wanted to sacrifice themselves for their brothers, he didn’t mind delivering the final blow.
After waiting for half a stick of incense to burn, Lin Qingyang felt a deep sense of despair. Yue Chen hadn’t succeeded, and he didn’t know what was happening now.
Lin Qingyang couldn’t think of any way to stop the situation here, so he could only go find Chu Lishu. Just as he was about to turn his horse, suddenly the horse beneath him began to behave uncontrollably, thrashing about.
There were horse neighs all around, but that was expected in a battle. Everything had been calm just moments ago, so why were they suddenly agitated?
Just then, a different sound emerged from the cacophony of horse neighs, gradually becoming more distinct. Lin Qingyang could hear the urgent sound of approaching hooves behind him.
His own horse was so frightened that it began to retreat, and suddenly another horse collided with him, slamming Lin Qingyang and his mount into a tree.
Lin Qingyang fell down in a sorry state, and as he looked up, he was met with a giant horse face.
His pupils shrank as he felt a sudden pain in his buttocks. “Chi Teng?”
The horse that arrived was indeed Chi Teng, and it opened its mouth as if to bite. Lin Qingyang was terrified and quickly raised his hand to defend himself, but to his surprise, Chi Teng only bit onto his sleeve, looking at him curiously for a moment before letting go and circling around him a few times.
However, Lin Qingyang couldn’t communicate with Chi Teng and didn’t want to waste time with it. He just wanted to quickly ride away. But just as he was about to lead the nearby horse away, Chi Teng seemed to sense something and let out a loud snort.
Lin Qingyang’s horse panicked as if it had gone mad, breaking free from the reins and bolting into the distance, leaving Lin Qingyang stranded with Chi Teng.
Lin Qingyang: …
“Hey, buddy, pal, I’m a good friend of your master’s, a really sincere friend. I need to find him urgently. Hey, are you looking for him too? How about you let me go, or I can take you to him? What do you think?” Lin Qingyang offered a sincere but desperate smile.
But Master Horse didn’t care about him, just curiously watching him, seeing how this person had taken on so many scents of his master. Otherwise, Master Chi Teng couldn’t have mistakenly run here. It remembered this person, who had been bitten by it before, crying and screaming, the master even got angry and pushed it, warning it. So it couldn’t bite anymore, but he was so annoying.
Seeing that Master Chi Teng didn’t react, Lin Qingyang was really anxious, turning around wanting to run, but still being caught by the other party’s clothes.
Lin Qingyang was about to tear off his own clothes, suddenly stunned, he saw the horse that had just run away rushing into the Third Prince’s team from afar, causing a stir.
Wait! Chi Teng? Herd of horses? Commotion!
Lin Qingyang suddenly turned his head to look at Chi Teng, his eyes almost shining.
Chi Teng suddenly felt something was wrong, loosened his grip, only to see this audacious fellow actually crazily trying to jump on its back, it didn’t pay attention for a moment and he succeeded.
Chi Teng was wildly tossing and turning, extremely agitated. Except for his master, no one else could ride him.
“Your master promised me that I could ride you, Lord Chi Teng. Aren’t you the most intelligent? It’s a critical moment now. Help me drive the horses ahead into the mountains, stop causing trouble, just help me this once. I’ll provide you with good food and drink in the future, and I’ll find you as many wives as you want. If you don’t behave, I’ll have your master castrate you!”
It’s unclear whether Chi Teng understood Lin Qingyang’s words, or if the scent on Lin Qingyang made Chi Teng become slightly more docile, or perhaps it was all just a coincidence.
Chi Teng neighed wildly and tossed about, but he didn’t actually throw Lin Qingyang off. Lin Qingyang clung to the horse’s neck for dear life, trying to control the direction. Chi Teng galloped madly towards the direction of the Third Prince’s team.
Meanwhile, the Third Prince’s team, before even catching sight of Chi Teng, were stunned by the dragon-like roar, trembling in its wake. Their horses had been staying in the same place with Chi Teng for the past few days and had developed a psychological shadow from the ordeal, so they all knew who was the boss.
Suddenly, all the horses became uncontrollable. Before anyone could react, they were already galloping in the opposite direction, into the mountain pass, as if they had gone mad. Some riders were thrown off halfway, while others were dragged into the mountains by their reins.
With dozens of horses running simultaneously, the noise was significant, as if the entire mountain was trembling. It was bound to attract the attention of the mountain dwellers. Not only did the people preparing to blast the mountain from the summit notice the anomaly, but the Eldest Prince, who was preparing to attack ahead, also sensed the disturbance.
“There must be enemies approaching ahead, listen to the sound of the hooves, there may be quite a few people…”
The Eldest Prince had only brought a hundred men precisely to take the enemy by surprise. If they were all discovered and met with resistance, it would be meaningless.
“Everyone, obey and descend the mountain!” The Eldest Prince immediately led his men halfway down the mountain, and the direction of descent was towards the battlefield where Zhao Cheng and his forces were fighting.
Originally, Zhao Cheng’s side had the upper hand in the battle, but the sudden descent of the Eldest Prince’s forces uplifted spirits and boosted morale. Even though their numbers were small, they momentarily changed the tide of the battle.
Following closely behind, Huo Luo naturally noticed the anomaly in the mountains and the change in direction of the Eldest Prince’s forces. Just as he was wondering, suddenly a horse bolted towards him as if it had gone mad.
The figure on top instantly caught Huoluo’s attention. Watching the clearly out-of-control horse, Huo Luo leaped into the air, caught the person, and then landed back on his own horse.
“How did you end up here?” Huo Luo exclaimed.
Yue Chen looked disheveled, still shaken. “Heavens, I thought I was done for. That roar must have been Chi Teng’s. No time to explain, Huo Luo, get down the mountain! It’s dangerous here.” Yue Chen hadn’t expected Chi Teng’s call to double the horse’s speed instantly, making him feel like he was flying and actually causing him to collide with Huo Luo.
As Huo Luo descended the mountain, the disadvantage caused by the sudden entry of the Eldest Prince into the battle was immediately reversed. Huo Luo flanked from behind with his men, while Zhao Cheng advanced from the front. Soon, the Eldest Prince and his forces couldn’t hold out any longer.
Yue Chen also seized the chaos to rendezvous with Chu Lishu at the rear of the battlefield, briefing him on the situation.
“Lin Qingyang hasn’t come to find me yet,” Chu Lishu frowned.
Yue Chen thought for a moment. “According to the speed, he shouldn’t have arrived yet.”
“Chi Teng…” the disguised Lu Yi spoke up. “I remember Lu Shi went to drug Chiteng, right? How did he end up over there?”
“Now it’s calm, Lu Yi, you go back and find Lin Qingyang. Once you locate him, immediately send him back to the camp.”
“Yes!”
…
“Wake up, wake up! You mustn’t get into trouble! If anything happens, the master will slaughter Chi Teng.”
Lin Qingyang was being shaken vigorously. He barely opened his eyes and saw Lu Shi supporting him.
“Don’t… stop shaking, I’m awake,” Lin Qingyang weakly pushed Lu Shi away, leaning against a tree. He glanced around and saw that they were still in the woods. The jolting had been too intense. When he saw the Third Prince’s group charging into the mountains, he let out a sigh of relief, feeling like he had just been through a whirlwind.
“You scared me to death. You don’t know martial arts, yet you dare to ride Chi Teng. You’re really lucky. If I hadn’t arrived in time to catch you, you might have broken a few bones.”
“I won’t ride it alone again next time. By the way, did you see the Third Prince’s group?” Lin Qingyang quickly explained the situation.
Lu Shi exclaimed, “No wonder! Don’t worry, when I arrived earlier, I saw them all inside. It seems like the Third Prince ran off somewhere, and they’re searching for him.”
Lin Qingyang breathed a sigh of relief. The mountain wouldn’t be blasted. Then he asked, “Why are you here?”
Lu Shi briefly explained, “My master likes Chi Teng and wanted to take him away, but he wouldn’t cooperate with taking the medicine and ran out.” Lu Shi glanced sideways at Chi Teng, who was grazing nearby.
Chi Teng snorted loudly when Lu Shi looked over, displaying a disdainful attitude.
“You’re still as annoying as ever!” Lu Shi stood up directly, making a punching motion with his fist. “I was trying to save you, you know! If I didn’t knock you out and take you away, do you have any idea what fate awaits you?”
Chi Teng grinned, showing his big white teeth, seemingly mocking. Just a lackey of his master, attempting to drug him. Not kicking him was already being merciful; it wanted to find its master on its own.
Lu Shi was absolutely furious. Lin Qingyang realized that this was Chu Lishu’s plan to rescue Chi Teng. After a moment of thought, Lin Qingyang stepped aside, and sure enough, Chi Teng was staring at him. He took a few steps back, and Chi Teng charged forward, biting Lin Qingyang’s clothes.
This fellow probably thought that following Lin Qingyang would lead it to its master.
Lu Shi was dumbfounded. What was going on? He hadn’t seen Lin Qingyang being bitten; otherwise, he would have intervened to save him earlier.
Lin Qingyang quickly signaled to Lu Shi, and the two of them acted in unison. Lin Qingyang tore his sleeve and made to run. As Chi Teng opened his mouth to bite again, Lu Shi swiftly tossed a specially-made small pill Mu Huichun made into Chi Teng’s mouth.
Chi Teng felt something shatter in his mouth, unable to spit it out. Enraged, he began thrashing wildly. Lu Shi hurriedly grabbed Lin Qingyang and flew up into a tree. When Lu Yi arrived, he saw Chi Teng panting heavily, circling around a tree, until finally collapsing unconscious.
Two hours later, the battle concluded. Only a hundred men remained from the Eldest Prince’s forces, captured and taken prisoner. The Eldest Prince and Wang Tong’en were bound and escorted to the camp. The Third Prince was also brought back. He had left earlier swearing to kill an enemy but ended up fracturing his arm without achieving his goal. Fuming with anger and unable to find anyone to blame, he hid away in his tent.
Chu Lishu and Yue Chen were technically considered to have strayed into the battlefield, so they didn’t enter the emperor’s tent to report. Yue Chen waited outside while Chu Lishu headed straight to his own tent.
Upon entering, Chu Lishu saw Lin Qingyang lying on the bed, and he was momentarily alarmed, thinking he was injured. However, Lin Qingyang immediately sat up upon hearing the noise.
“Are you back already? Are you injured?”
“How….. about you?” Chu Lishu hurriedly approached.
Lin Qingyang shook his head with a smile. “I’m fine, just feels like Chi Teng shook my bones loose, hahaha…”
Lin Qingyang chuckled while looking at Chu Lishu. Though his clothes and cheeks were stained with blood, he seemed uninjured. However, the lingering scent of blood and killing intent still clung to him, a characteristic of someone who had just come from the battlefield, which was quite unsettling to witness.
Before Lin Qingyang could examine Chu Lishu closely, Chu Lishu had already approached briskly and, upon sitting down, immediately embraced Lin Qingyang. In that moment of being held in Chu Lishu’s arms, Lin Qingyang felt a sense of relief wash over him.
“You keep getting into trouble. Why don’t you ever listen?” Chu Lishu sighed with genuine helplessness, always feeling that Lin Qingyang would encounter various unexpected situations when he least expected it.
Feeling Chu Lishu’s rapid breaths, Lin Qingyang hurriedly patted his back and said with a smile, “This can be considered a pleasant surprise. Otherwise, the Eldest Prince and Huo Luo would have been in trouble. The real risk-taker was Yue Chen at the time. I just got lucky, fortunately encountering Chi Teng.”
Chu Lishu naturally couldn’t refute Lin Qingyang’s words and could only say, “It’s my fault for not being vigilant against the Third Prince and his men.”
“You can’t always keep an eye on all your enemies every time you do something. That’s impossible,” Lin Qingyang chuckled awkwardly, feeling like he had dug himself into a hole.
Chu Lishu reached out and touched Lin Qingyang’s cheek. “You’re really not injured? Did Chi Teng bite you?”
Lin Qingyang thought for a moment, then jokingly remarked, “It just tore my clothes. I wonder how its original owner educated it. That temperament… Oh, right, its original owner is His Highness the Crown Prince. Well, since it’s the Crown Prince whom I admire, I won’t hold it against him.”
Chu Lishu was momentarily stunned, feeling somewhat uncomfortable. He chuckled awkwardly, “He didn’t educate it properly. I’ll have my men take it back home later, and we’ll retrain it.”
Lin Qingyang couldn’t help but find Chi Teng’s temper amusing. If it hadn’t been for Yuan Ran spoiling it back then, would it still be so unruly even with a new owner?
Just as they were about to continue their conversation, Lin Qingyang’s mind was alerted with a notification: 【Main Mission 2, Mission 15: Assist the male lead in completing the rebellion plan of the Wang family, completed. Reward: 300 points, total points: 1100, Plot Progress: 75%]
Seeing the four-digit points suddenly made him a bit dizzy. Previously, Lin Qingyang had casually exchanged some small amounts of points for medicinal pills for emergencies, but now he dared not exchange points recklessly. He really didn’t want to see his points drop back to three digits again!
Suddenly feeling energized, Lin Qingyang refocused, “Right, back to business. What’s the situation over there?”
Chu Lishu briefly briefed him, and then they prepared to go near the Emperor’s tent to take a look. In theory, the Eldest Prince would eventually be brought back to the palace for trial, so Chu Lishu didn’t have much to worry about during this time.
