【Main Mission 3, Mission 3: Control the court]
Lin Qingyang was led… So Yuan Ran is Chu Lishu.
Xu Lanxin suddenly felt like she was a joke, a colossal joke. She slowly got up, watching as a large number of troops surged in. The shadow guards around her were nowhere to be seen; they probably knew that the situation was lost and had all fled.
Only her father stood beside her.
One by one, the courtiers in front of her knelt down to Yuan Ran, bowing.
It felt like her dream was gradually shattering.
Everything had come to an end.
Her dream was over.
Yuan Ran, the person she had once yearned for day and night, was no longer the man of her dreams.
Yuan Ran walked with Lin Qingyang towards the steps, reaching the throne in front of Xu Lanxin.
Xu Lanxin stared blankly at Yuan Ran.
It wasn’t until Duke Wei Guo, dragging his heavily injured body, knelt down before her.
“Your Highness… Everything Xin’er did was for you!” Duke Wei Guo couldn’t care about anything else. At least they initially helped Yuan Ran seek revenge.
Yuan Ran’s gaze swept coldly towards Duke Wei Guo, then turned to Xu Lanxin.
“For me?” Yuan Ran asked coldly.
Xu Lanxin opened her mouth, and Duke Wei Guo quickly pulled her, hoping she would speak softly. Perhaps they could still save their lives if they didn’t acknowledge Yuan Ran as the Crown Prince. They were still unaware.
Xu Lanxin smiled with resignation. “No, it’s not for you.”
Duke Wei Guo was greatly shocked.
Yuan Ran narrowed his eyes slightly, while Lin Qingyang looked at Xu Lanxin with some surprise.
Suddenly, Xu Lanxin looked at Lin Qingyang, her eyes filled with envy and jealousy, which made Lin Qingyang feel inexplicably uncomfortable.
Suddenly, black blood dripped from the corner of Xu Lanxin’s mouth.
Yuan Ran and Lin Qingyang instantly understood that Xu Lanxin had taken poison at some point.
Xu Lanxin’s figure swayed, a mocking smile appearing at the corner of her mouth, though it was unclear at whom she was mocking.
“Xin’er!” Duke Wei Guo hurriedly supported Xu Lanxin.
“You are not my Crown Prince, you are not…” Xu Lanxin shook her head slightly, still refusing to admit. “The Crown Prince died at Tongjia Pass, I saw it with my own eyes, I can’t be mistaken.”
“You’re right, the former Yuan Ran is dead, and I have never been your Crown Prince,” Yuan Ran said coldly and mercilessly.
A mouthful of black blood gushed out, and Xu Lanxin stubbornly pursed her lips, still laughing defiantly, but her breath was short, and she could only sit down on the ground.
But she still looked up at Yuan Ran, as if she saw the Crown Prince who sheltered her from the rain and carried her in the muddy night years ago.
Back then, she believed that the Crown Prince must be a celestial being sent by the heavens to save the world.
Only by following such a person could her life have meaning; otherwise, being just a sheltered woman in the inner chambers was detestable to her. She wanted to walk side by side with this person.
Xu Lanxin struggled to get closer, but lost her way along the path. She couldn’t help but wonder, what if she had been a step late, if she hadn’t joined forces with Yu Suoxi, if she hadn’t entered the palace as a consort, if she had encountered Chu Lishu earlier and discovered his true identity.
Would the outcome be different now? But as she looked at Lin Qingyang, she understood that her wish would never come true because those who could influence the Crown Prince, those who could wield equal power, already existed.
Xu Lanxin seemed unwilling to accept this reality, but her vision gradually darkened. In her final moments, she only gazed at Yuan Ran.
But Yuan Ran was already too lazy to look at her, instead turning his head to Lin Qingyang, as if murmuring something under his breath.
But Xu Lanxin could no longer hear anything.
“Xin’er!” Duke Wei Guo couldn’t help but burst into tears as he held his daughter, who was gradually losing consciousness. His daughter had always been strong-willed, but he never expected her to end up like this. Perhaps as a father, he should have intervened long ago.
He tilted his head up, unable to resist the urge to plead for his daughter.
“Your Highness… We truly wanted to assist you. She truly acted with sincerity for you… I beg of you… Please don’t blame her,” Duke Wei Guo said, then bowed deeply to Yuan Ran. “Your Highness… I have a son who is not involved in this matter. I beg you to spare him.”
After saying this, Duke Wei Guo took out a dagger and ended his own life.
The courtiers were stunned, but none dared to speak.
This was the inevitable outcome. It’s better for them to take matters into their own hands than to tarnish the reputation of the Crown Prince. But what about the young emperor?
Meanwhile, outside the main hall, Xu Wenze had already seen everything through the crack in the window. He closed his eyes slowly, holding back tears. He had long expected this day to come. Turning around, he walked away. He still had things to attend to.
Amidst the chaos in the palace, Xu Wenze finally found his little nephew, a nephew who had lost his mind.
Just as they were about to escape from the palace, they ran into Zhao Cheng’s forces amidst the chaos. Because there were too many people outside, Zhao Cheng’s troops disguised themselves as rebels and infiltrated. They found Concubine Mei and the Fourth Prince and were planning to flee when they unexpectedly encountered them.
Seeing Xu Wenze and the baby in the swaddling clothes, Concubine Mei, in a sorry state, immediately exclaimed, “Is that Concubine Xu’s child? Quick! Kill the child to avenge us, mother and son!”
“No, Mother Consort, please don’t do this again!” the Fourth Prince hurriedly pleaded.
Concubine Mei, however, was unwilling to give up. Zhao Cheng initially didn’t want to waste time, but seeing the child ignited a sense of malice within him. After all, they had fallen into this predicament because of Concubine Xu and them. Moreover, this was royal blood. Even if Yuan Ran resented his own uncle, he couldn’t disregard it outwardly. Perhaps the child could be used as leverage.
So Zhao Cheng and his men moved to charge at Xu Wenze.
Xu Wenze had long sensed the danger and fled with the child. However, they couldn’t outrun those skilled in martial arts, and with the child crying incessantly, they couldn’t hide. Soon, they were cornered.
Xu Wenze’s face turned pale as he couldn’t help but plead, “This won’t accomplish anything! It’s better to escape while you still can!”
“How wouldn’t it?” Zhao Cheng approached menacingly. “This child makes for an excellent hostage!”
“The Crown Prince despises this child’s parents. How could he possibly use him as a hostage? Are you all out of your minds?”
But Zhao Cheng paid little heed. They had infiltrated easily enough, but getting out was proving difficult. He was growing desperate, and at the moment, the little emperor was the only valuable leverage they had. If they encountered him, they had to seize the opportunity.
“He’s Concubine Xu’s brother! Kill him for me too!” Concubine Mei shouted loudly.
“Don’t!” cried the Fourth Prince.
But Zhao Cheng’s blade was already descending towards the obstructing Xu Wenze. Xu Wenze could only hold his nephew tightly.
In an instant, the clash of blades sounded, and Zhao Cheng’s sword was unexpectedly split in half.
There were gasps from behind.
Xu Wenze looked up to see a figure in white, wielding a silver blade, standing before him like a pillar, supporting his failing spirit.
“Liu Xiaowei…” Xu Wenze said, disbelief in his voice.
Liu Xiaowei glanced back at Xu Wenze, then cast a somewhat disdainful look at the crying child, annoyed.
Before him, Zhao Cheng glared angrily, his eyes fixed on the blade that had already slashed across his chest.
Zhao Cheng fell slowly, the silver light tracing an arc in the air, pointing directly at the people across, “Whoever wants to die, step forward.”
Some of Zhao Cheng’s men fled, while others rushed forward frantically, trying to drag Zhao Cheng, who was not yet dead, away. However, they were all cut down by Liu Xiaowei, leaving only Concubine Mei and the Fourth Prince, who then sheathed his blade.
Liu Xiaowei didn’t pay attention to Concubine Mei and the Fourth Prince. Instead, he turned back to Xu Wenze and said, “We can leave now, right?”
Xu Wenze’s eyes reddened, and he couldn’t hold back his tears any longer. In a hoarse voice, he pleaded, “Take us with you.”
Liu Xiaowei smirked proudly, as if he had finally completed an unfinished task.
As they were about to turn around, they suddenly saw a figure standing under the half-moon gate, watching them.
The newcomer was Lin Qingyang.
Xu Wenze’s face turned pale, and his feet seemed to freeze in place. Liu Xiaowei glanced at Lin Qingyang.
There was still a glimmer of Silver Rainbow faintly swaying on Lin Qingyang’s wrist, indicating that Yuan Ran was not far away.
Lin Qingyang scanned the surroundings and also noticed the child in Xu Wenze’s arms.
Xu Wenze couldn’t help but hold the child tighter and said hoarsely, “He… he’s born… simple-minded, he won’t…”
“Quickly go.” Lin Qingyang spoke slowly. “Uncle, take my friend and ensure his safety.”
Liu Xiaowei nodded, and Xu Wenze, with tears in his eyes, thanked Lin Qingyang before quickly following Liu Xiaowei.
Lin Qingyang felt a body pressing against his back, but he stood still and reached back to grab someone’s hand. It wasn’t until the person impatiently said, “Is that enough?”
Lin Qingyang smiled faintly, and stepped aside. “That’s enough.”
Yuan Ran’s expression soured, but he didn’t say much. He walked out and looked at the three people who were still able to breathe.
“Big Brother Lin… and… Crown Prince Brother?” The Fourth Prince looked at them in astonishment. Although he had heard about it earlier, he couldn’t believe that the former Crown Prince was still alive. Back then, he admired Yuan Ran a lot, but he was still too young and his memories were limited. Seeing Yuan Ran now, he could only stare blankly.
“Yuan Ran… it’s really you…” Concubine Mei looked at Yuan Ran in astonishment, unable to believe her eyes.
Yuan Ran slowly raised the sword in his hand, pointing it at the three of them.
Lin Qingyang hurriedly spoke up, “We didn’t come here for this, right?”
Just now, Yuan Ran disregarded the inquiries of the courtiers, leaving Yue Chen and Huo Luo to handle things, and came directly to the harem with Lin Qingyang. Lin Qingyang knew that there were still several people Yuan Ran had to deal with, otherwise he wouldn’t be able to settle down. He couldn’t afford to leave any potential threats behind, a lesson learned from the previous incident.
So, as soon as they left the main hall, they first killed all of Xu Lanxin’s remaining followers, then killed Chief Steward Sheng. Until they encountered them here, Yuan Ran and Lu Yi and Lu Shi were killing Zhao Cheng’s fleeing subordinates. Lin Qingyang arrived here first.
Lin Qingyang felt that since entering the palace, Yuan Ran seemed to have been killing people continuously, his actions becoming mechanical, as if he was gradually losing control. It was unclear whether he was truly seeking revenge or on the brink of losing control.
At least in Lin Qingyang’s eyes, the Fourth Prince and Concubine Mei were actually innocent. They had been deceived by them all along.
Yuan Ran’s eyes, clouded with gloom, swept across Lin Qingyang’s face, and he stiffly lowered the sword in his hand.
However, Concubine Mei was frightened and immediately pleaded, “Don’t kill us, we are innocent. The incident from years ago was orchestrated by Prince Ning himself, and Zhao Cheng was his accomplice. We have nothing to do with it.”
“Mother Consort…” The Fourth Prince stared at her with widened eyes.
Zhao Cheng looked at Concubine Mei with despair, then suddenly laughed, “Mei’er, you’re really ruthless.”
“Don’t call me that, it’s disgusting,” Concubine Mei immediately retorted with disgust.
Zhao Cheng hesitated for a moment, then his eyes turned cold. A throwing knife flew out, and with a soft “thud,” it pierced Concubine Mei’s chest.
Concubine Mei staggered, unable to believe what she was seeing as she looked at Zhao Cheng. Zhao Cheng smiled, “Mei’er, I like you so much, even in death, I won’t let you go.”
“You… useless man!” Concubine Mei glared at Zhao Cheng fiercely, but ultimately, unwillingly, she fell down.
Zhao Cheng was already at the end of his strength. He didn’t look at Yuan Ran the whole time, instead, he slowly crawled to Concubine Mei’s side, tightly embracing her, affectionately kissing her once, before smiling faintly and taking his last breath.
The Fourth Prince knelt down in despair, holding the bodies of his parents and sobbing uncontrollably.
Until the footsteps of Yuan Ran and Lin Qingyang approached.
The Fourth Prince looked up blankly.
Yuan Ran just glanced at him before walking away.
Lin Qingyang hesitated for a moment, looking at the Fourth Prince with some compassion. “Go, leave this place, and live a good life. We’ve taught you so much, you should be able to live well.”
The Fourth Prince opened his mouth, but in the end, nothing came out. He could only watch as Yuan Ran and Lin Qingyang left.
Finally, they arrived at the Empress Dowager’s chamber, the same one as before, where Yuan Ran’s grandmother, the Empress Dowager, resided.
The door, which had been tightly closed, seemed to anticipate their arrival. Before they could even knock, it swung open.
And the one who opened it was none other than Xie Yiqing.
Xie Yiqing looked at Yuan Ran, his gaze lingering for a while before he smiled and said, “You’ve finally come.”
Yuan Ran didn’t respond to him. He just walked inside, sword stained with blood in hand.
But Xie Yiqing, as if chatting with an acquaintance, turned to Lin Qingyang and asked, “What about Xu Lanxin?”
“She took poison and ended her life,” Lin Qingyang replied.
A hint of sadness flickered across Xie Yiqing’s face. He sighed and then led the two of them towards the Buddhist hall.
The Buddhist hall was as illuminated as when they sneaked in last time, filled with the glow of lamps and numerous Buddha statues.
Empress Dowager Xie remained kneeling before the Buddha statue, murmuring prayers, while holding the paper with the prophecy written on it.
“Grandmother,” Yuan Ran and Lin Qingyang stood still and called out slowly.
Empress Dowager Xie trembled all over, finally rising and turning to look towards the door. Perhaps she had been kneeling for too long and felt a bit unstable on her feet. Xie Yiqing stepped forward to support her.
“Yuan Ran… Indeed, the prophecy is irreversible. Neither Prince Ning nor Xu Lanxin could kill you.”
“If you had decided to kill me from the beginning, it might have worked,” Yuan Ran replied, his expression numb.
“Yes, that’s my biggest regret in all of this,” the Empress Dowager added with a hint of remorse.
Xie Yiqing frowned slightly but remained silent.
Lin Qingyang couldn’t help but tighten his grip on Yuan Ran’s hand as he spoke. “Empress Dowager Xie, I didn’t want to say these words, but I can’t hold back any longer. Haven’t you ever thought about it? If it weren’t for your selfish desires that led to the destruction of everything, Yuan Ran would have been a virtuous and outstanding emperor. The prophecy wouldn’t have come true. It was your actions that caused it all.”
“The prophecy cannot be wrong. Everything I did was for the good of the Great Zhou.”
“Is it worth deceiving yourself like this? Wasn’t it all just for the sake of your Xie family? Yuan Ran did nothing wrong to the Xie family. You know it yourself. Were you trying to make him bend the law and favor your family? He is the Crown Prince, the future emperor. He cannot do that,” Lin Qingyang said earnestly.
Xie Yiqing’s expression changed slightly, and he let out a bitter laugh.
Finally, the Empress Dowager couldn’t hold back any longer.
“My family was slaughtered, almost wiped out. Is it wrong for me to seek revenge?” the Empress Dowager retorted with a sudden surge of authority, her eyes almost bulging.
Lin Qingyang wasn’t adept at arguing with elders and felt a headache coming on.
Suddenly, Yuan Ran spoke up, “I regret it too.”
The Empress Dowager and Xie Yiqing both turned to Yuan Ran.
Yuan Ran smiled faintly, “I truly regret being too merciful in the past, not eradicating the roots, and considering your identities, sparing you from punishment! It gave you the opportunity to harm so many people in the Great Zhou Dynasty, including my father and mother.”
Both the Empress Dowager and Xie Yiqing paled.
The Empress Dowager trembled as if wanting to say something more, but Xie Yiqing spoke up, “You’re right. In fact, you shouldn’t have been so merciful. If you hadn’t trusted others too much back then, giving them opportunities, you wouldn’t have encountered all the events at Tongjia Pass.”
“So, I came to correct everything.” Yuan Ran raised the sword in his hand.
“Are you going to kill me?” Empress Dowager Xie seemed incredulous, probably in her mind Yuan Ran’s image had never changed from the beginning to the end. Such a person shouldn’t wield a sword against their own family, even if harmed. He wouldn’t personally take action because he’d find it too difficult; he should be that kind of person.
But now Yuan Ran was lifting the sword against them.
The Empress Dowager seemed to suddenly awaken. Yes, Yuan Ran was no longer the Yuan Ran of the past; he had come for revenge.
She smiled, “Yuan Ran, you don’t need to do it yourself. I’ll do it. Consider it the last thing this grandmother of yours does for you.” With a proud demeanor, the Empress Dowager adjusted her clothes and straightened the phoenix ornament in her hair. With a wave of her hand, the candles fell to the ground.
Lin Qingyang also didn’t want Yuan Ran to shed the blood of his relatives, so he pulled Yuan Ran back.
Xie Yiqing also followed them out.
The flames roared as the fire spread. Empress Dowager stood motionless within the encroaching circle of fire, gazing outwards. Then, she suddenly raised her voice, “Yuan Ran, you are my legitimate grandson. I have resented you, but I have also cherished you. It’s hard to reconcile a lifetime’s worth of emotions. Once you come down, we can gather as a family and settle everything. As for the prophecy, we weren’t lying to you. How many things have you done that were foretold by that person? Do you really think you can defy fate?”
Yuan Ran embraced Lin Qingyang, who stood steadfastly by his side. Without answering, they both strongly conveyed their resolve.
Empress Dowager hesitated, her final expression indescribable, as the raging fire gradually consumed everything.
Xie Yiqing slowly walked to the door, looking extremely exhausted as he sat down heavily. His face had turned ashen.
Yuan Ran’s gaze fell upon him.
Xie Yiqing smiled weakly, “I don’t need you to take action either. The poison Xu Lanxin administered to me, I had already stopped taking the antidote long ago. Now, it’s time. Your Highness… Perhaps you won’t believe me, but I regret it. Here, I wish for Your Highness to break free from the prophecy. I believe in you, because you are… the person I admire most in this lifetime. You can do it.”
As Xie Yiqing spoke, blood began to slowly trickle from the corner of his mouth. He looked towards Lin Qingyang, “Lin Qingyang… take care of him.”
Lin Qingyang nodded solemnly.
Yuan Ran held Lin Qingyang tightly, until Xie Yiqing collapsed, consumed by the flames gradually spreading behind him. Only then did Yuan Ran lead Lin Qingyang away, away from the fire.
At this moment, Yuan Ran had avenged all his grievances.
After witnessing so many deaths in succession, Lin Qingyang was really starting to feel overwhelmed. Fortunately, Yuan Ran was by his side all along. He looked up at Yuan Ran, only to notice the lingering resentment in his expression growing heavier by the moment.
“Yuan Ran…” Lin Qingyang called out softly.
But Yuan Ran didn’t seem to hear him. Instead, his steps quickened as he headed towards the main hall.
Along the way, they encountered Yue Chen and Huo Luo, who reported on the current situation, stating that everything was going smoothly. Then they heard Yuan Ran’s voice, almost with a hint of amusement, saying, “List all those who once harbored rebellious thoughts and execute them, along with their families. Send word to Qi Ci to lead the army in preparation for an attack on Tianheng. Huo Luo, you lead the troops to provide support.”
Upon hearing this, the three were stunned, and even Lu Yi and Lu Shi, who followed closely behind, were taken aback.
Wasn’t it supposed to be over?
Yuan Ran noticed the reactions of the others, paused in his steps, and cast a fierce glance at them. “Do you still want to leave behind various potential threats? Killing all those with treacherous intentions is the only way to ensure safety.”
“Tianheng…” Huo Luo exclaimed, startled. “But isn’t it already divided?”
“That was just a temporary strategy, also to provoke Yu Suoxi. Now it’s no longer necessary. They…”
Yuan Ran’s voice carried an increasingly amused tone, but it sent shivers down everyone’s spines.
Having gained power and control over everything, did Yuan Ran become reckless and unrestrained?
“Mu Huichun…” Realizing this, Lu Shi immediately wanted to find Mu Huichun. They had encountered this state of Yuan Ran before, the one who was crazed and wanted to kill people.
But Yuan Ran’s voice turned stern. “What are you doing?”
Lu Shi froze in an instant, feeling a murderous intent coming from behind. He didn’t dare to move a muscle.
“Your Highness… Shouldn’t we stabilize the court first before doing anything else?” Yu Chen cautiously suggested.
“Do I still need to stabilize such a court? They should just do their respective duties. Those who don’t listen…”
“Yuan Ran!” Suddenly, Lin Qingyang called out.
As if something had momentarily covered his red eyes, a flash of light passed through them.
Yuan Ran looked at Lin Qingyang in confusion, but suddenly Lin Qingyang rushed forward and embraced Yuan Ran’s neck, planting a kiss on him.
Yuan Ran instinctively opened his mouth, and a small pill was inserted into it, forcing him to swallow it.
Costing 300 points, it rapidly matured.
Lin Qingyang released Yuan Ran and looked at him nervously. At first, Yuan Ran gazed at Lin Qingyang in confusion, but then the redness in his eyes slowly faded away, leaving everyone astonished.
In that instant, Yuan Ran seemed to struggle in pain, reaching out to grab Lin Qingyang’s hand but failing to catch it. He fell straight to the ground, and Lin Qingyang hurriedly caught him. “Quick, fetch Mu Huichun over here. Yue Chen and Huo Luo, stabilize the court first. Everything will be fine once he wakes up.”
The others naturally believed in Lin Qingyang; for now, he was equivalent to Yuan Ran.
The court had just been entrusted to Yue Chen and Huo Luo, so there should be no problem.
Chief Steward Hai had also been brought back to the palace to resume management, and everything is gradually returning to normal.
Outside the palace at this time, two old men were sitting in a carriage, slowly passing by.
“The chaos has been settled. Senior Brother, you can rest assured. Your disciple is not short-lived. I’ve calculated it.”
“You’re talking nonsense! If it weren’t for your calculations, would my disciple have to go through all this trouble?”
“Senior Brother, we cultivators should follow the will of heaven. It was fate that I came down the mountain to calculate his fate, it was fate that I told him the secret of the country’s ruler, and it was fate that you came down the mountain to teach him. Why blame me?”
“You… you blockhead, haven’t you heard of ‘Man proposes, God disposes’?”
“That’s just what mortals tell themselves to find comfort. In the end, this child will still follow the path I predicted.”
“No, you haven’t seen it. This child… has had divine help long ago.”
“What? Divine help?”
“Yes, a little immortal who will accompany my disciple throughout his life. So, your prediction was shattered long ago.”
The carriage clattered away, carrying with it a debate about destiny.
By that evening, Yuan Ran still hadn’t woken up. Mu Huichun checked him repeatedly and felt that Yuan Ran’s body was getting better each time, as if gradually recovering to the best state.
“Big Brother Lin, your medicine is miraculous. Do you have any more? I’d like to study it.”
“You should see why he hasn’t woken up yet,” Lin Qingyang replied anxiously, worried about any hidden dangers from the hastened recovery.
Lu Yi and Lu Shi were also keeping watch and refused to leave.
Lin Qingyang held Yuan Ran’s hand and murmured, “Please don’t let anything happen.”
Suddenly, Yuan Ran’s hand twitched slightly, as if not used to being held so tightly.
Lin Qingyang looked over in surprise and met a pair of eyes as dark as obsidian, hiding stars within.
It was his normal eyes.
Lin Qingyang’s eyes widened in surprise. “Yuan Ran, you’re alright. How do you feel? Do you still want to harm anyone? Is your head hurting?”
Yuan Ran, lying on the bed, blinked slowly. There was no longer any trace of hostility on his face. After a moment’s pause, he gently withdrew his hand and furrowed his brows slightly. His tone softened but became somewhat distant as he spoke, “Who are you? And why are you by my bedside?”
Lin Qingyang: ???
Everyone else: !!!!!
When Yu Chen and Huo Luo arrived after hearing the news, they were equally stunned.
They looked at Lin Qingyang, who was sitting alone, and then at Yuan Ran, who was sitting up and undergoing various examinations by Mu Huichun.
Yuan Ran’s gaze was filled with confusion as he scrutinized everyone.
“What’s going on?” Yue Chen asked Lin Qingyang, saying, “Has His Highness lost his memory? Isn’t this too unbelievable? Wasn’t the medicine supposed to treat madness?”
Huo Luo pulled Yue Chen back, urging him not to get agitated, then approached Yuan Ran and bowed. “Your Highness, aside from memory loss, you…”
“I’m fine. I’ve heard about it as well. It’s been five years since both Qi Ci and I went to Tianjia Pass. Many things have happened, and I’m just temporarily…” Yuan Ran spoke in a friendly tone. “You’ve all grown up. Have you really become my right-hand men?”
Huo Luo was momentarily at a loss for how to respond.
Yu Chen quickly handed over the official documents. “Most of the events are detailed here. It might be quite shocking for Your Highness, but given the current situation, you cannot afford to lose these memories. We need your stability to maintain the stability of the court.”
In truth, Yuan Ran had already heard bits and pieces of it, and while the revelations were jarring and left him feeling somber, he managed to control his emotions, attempting to come to terms with everything. However, the presence of one particular individual made it all the more difficult for him to accept.
They said Lin Qingyang is his other half?
A man? The son of County Princess Yawen, the legitimate son of Marquis An Nan, his object of affection?
How could that be possible? He doesn’t like men.
But this Lin Qingyang, who initially boldly addressed him by name, did surprise him a bit. Even if he were the object of his affection, could one be so impolite?
Yuan Ran sighed silently, forcing himself to temporarily halt all thoughts as he turned his gaze towards the indictment letter.
“Why don’t you all leave first? I’ll calm down and handle this on my own,” Yuan Ran suggested, feeling uncomfortable with a certain someone’s presence looming over him.
Suddenly, Lin Qingyang stood up and said, “I’ll leave then. These are all people you trust, they can help you quickly understand the situation. The only one who makes you uncomfortable here is me.”
Yuan Ran was taken aback, feeling somewhat embarrassed. He didn’t mean to…
“Your Highness, he is…” Yue Chen seemed eager to set things straight.
But Lin Qingyang chuckled and said, “It’s alright. I’ve figured it out. The medicine he took was supposed to restore his body and mind to their best state, but unexpectedly, it affected his memory as well. However, it’s fine. His memory will fully return in a month. In the meantime, I’ll leave it to you all.”
“Will it really come back?” Mu Huichun asked in astonishment.
Lin Qingyang nodded decisively. “Yes, it will come back. I’m sure of it. Otherwise, why wouldn’t I be crying right now?”
Seeing Lin Qingyang’s relaxed expression, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
Lin Qingyang’s joking remark made Yuan Ran uncomfortable, but his discomfort escalated when Lin Qingyang smiled at him and turned to leave. Without realizing it, Yuan Ran instinctively reached out, and a Silver Rainbow that appeared in his sleeve flew out with internal force toward Lin Qingyang’s back.
Fortunately, Yuan Ran reacted quickly and immediately retracted his force, causing the Silver Rainbow to return.
Lin Qingyang, unaware of what happened, left and closed the door behind him.
Yuan Ran stared blankly at the closed door, feeling extremely uncomfortable in his chest. When he looked up, he saw everyone looking at him as if reproaching him.
Yuan Ran: …
Soon, one by one, the others came out.
Mu Huichun sat next to Lin Qingyang with a mournful face, leaning on his shoulder. “Why did he have to through all this trouble? Even though the illness is cured, and the body is well.”
“Perhaps it’s fate. Only a completely memory-less Highness can handle what comes next with kindness, avoiding much bloodshed,” Yue Chen also came out and sat on the steps with Lin Qingyang. “Otherwise, even if the madness is cured, His Highness’s methods wouldn’t be so kind.”
“How is he?” Lin Qingyang asked, worried.
“Suddenly, everything changed. Even if His Highness appears strong on the surface, he must be feeling down. We don’t have as much time with him as Lu Yi and Lu Shi, so it’s better for them to accompany him.”
Huo Luo came out to comfort Lin Qingyang. Then he pulled Yue Chen away to deal with official matters. Indeed, even with Yuan Ran’s amnesia, handling state affairs was a breeze and wouldn’t be disrupted too much.
“Big Brother Lin, don’t be sad. As you said, everything will be fine in a month,” Mu Huichun comforted. “Anyway, you’re my Senior’s Brother’s wife. That won’t change.”
Lin Qingyang chuckled, supporting himself with his hands on the ground as he gazed up at the stars. “Actually, I… kind of hope he doesn’t regain his memories.”
“What? Are you crazy?” Mu Huichun exclaimed. “You don’t want Senior Brother anymore?”
Lin Qingyang shook his head. “No, how could I not want him? I just… feel sorry for him. If he turns back into the old Yuan Ran, the wounds in his heart will only deepen. Do you know how much damage can push someone to madness? Although… someone assured me that regaining his memories wouldn’t cause further harm, that it would slowly merge. But I still feel sorry for him. Clearly, those aren’t good memories.”
“Who said that? You’re in his memories!” Mu Huichun immediately retorted.
Lin Qingyang chuckled, “I’m willing to trade that. Isn’t there always a trade-off? At worst, I’ll just pursue him again to prevent him from constantly using the past to tease me. But this time, he probably won’t be so easily won over by me again. I might have to work hard.”
Mu Huichun shook his head, “I don’t think so. Even if he loses his memory, Senior Brother will surely fall for you again. You two are destined for each other.”
Lin Qingyang smiled happily and rubbed Mu Huichun’s head. Actually, he wasn’t sad at all, and he truly hoped Yuan Ran wouldn’t regain his memory. As for matters of love, he could remember them himself. What he wanted most was for Yuan Ran not to be harmed, especially when he looked into those eyes that seemed untouched by any darkness, it really brought comfort.
However, behind them, although the gate was closed, three people were standing there.
Yuan Ran put down his hand, ready to open the door, his eyes flickering, but he turned around and went back in.
In the middle of the night, as Yuan Ran fell asleep, he sensed someone entering. Without stopping them, both Lu Yi and Lu Shi spoke softly, already knowing who it was.
“How is he? Will he be upset when he learns about the events of the past five years? This damn medicine, it’s really troublesome.”
The false decree was written by him, Yuan Ran had already heard about it, and he could feel the person’s concern for him between the lines.
Yuan Ran remained still, letting the three of them talk. If Lin Qingyang didn’t know, that was fine, but didn’t Lu Yi and Lu Shi realize he wasn’t actually asleep? It seemed intentional. Since when did the Shadow Wolves ever side with outsiders like this?
Soon, Yuan Ran only felt someone approaching, lightly planting a kiss on his forehead. Yuan Ran had never been this close to anyone before, and he couldn’t help but stiffen.
However, Lin Qingyang didn’t linger, just kissed him briefly, ensuring that Yuan Ran was okay before leaving.
Yuan Ran suddenly sat up, exclaiming, “Where did he go?”
Lu Yi’s voice answered, “Lu Shi took him to the side hall to rest. Your Highness might not be used to it, after all, you… always said you couldn’t sleep without holding him.”
Yuan Ran’s cheeks reddened instantly, though it couldn’t be seen in the darkness. Feeling uncomfortable, he replied, “How come even you… Never mind, anyway, it’ll all be back to normal in a month, no need to worry about it unnecessarily.”
It wasn’t until Yuan Ran lay down and felt the emptiness in his arms that he realized something was missing. Was it because of the absence of something?
Lin Qingyang stayed in the palace for a few days and noticed that Yuan Ran was still uneasy around him. Despite trying to jog his memory about their shared experiences, the results were minimal. Instead, it made the situation more awkward, as if Yuan Ran knew his identity but couldn’t connect emotionally. There was a polite yet awkward closeness, as if he was afraid of upsetting or hurting Lin Qingyang, yet struggling to adjust to their current relationship.
This left Lin Qingyang with only one feeling: the past Yuan Ran had a really good personality. Despite being in the highest position, he treated this stranger with such care and caution just because he knew about their relationship. This kind of gentleness was truly lethal.
Lin Qingyang did feel that the current Yuan Ran was somewhat unfamiliar. However, the more he looked at him, the more he found himself drawn to him. Well, with his elegant and refined demeanor, it’s no wonder why so many people regarded Yuan Ran as the epitome of perfection. Lin Qingyang couldn’t help but feel a tinge of resentment; even though he was his, he couldn’t get close anymore.
However, this period of time did give Lin Qingyang a chance to catch his breath. He could finally stand up straight and walk without feeling like something was missing below. When he thought about it this way, it wasn’t so bad.
Soon enough, the coronation ceremony took place.
Lin Qingyang stood below temporarily in the role of a courtier. Others looked at him with strange eyes, and although Lin Qingyang felt uncomfortable, he could only pretend not to notice at this moment.
For Lin Qingyang, this was a grand moment he had come for.
Ding, 【Main Mission 3, Mission 3: Control the court completed, reward 400 points.】

Congratulations to the host for successfully obtaining an independent life for Lin Qingyang. We hope the host cherishes life and enjoys the new journey. System unbinding countdown: 10…】
Wait, what’s going on? The darkening value is zero because of the medicine? Did he hit a bug?
No, the system is going to shut down. Let’s exchange first. Lin Qingyang frantically clicked around and then glanced at the interface one last time.
It seems like there’s some different data.
In the sexual preference column, instead of “not male, not female,” it only says Yuan Ran?!
The interface flashed, before Lin Qingyang could examine it closely, the system shut down and unbound.
Lin Qingyang instantly felt a sense of freedom, as if he had shed his old skin and been reborn.
He succeeded.
He was himself now!
In his joy, Lin Qingyang’s first instinct was to look at Yuan Ran, wanting to share it with him.
But in that instant when their eyes met, something felt off.
Yuan Ran was looking at him awkwardly.
And finally, Lin Qingyang heard the reminder from Yue Chen.
“The Emperor is asking what reward you want, from the Dragon’s merit.”
Lin Qingyang finally snapped out of his distraction and quickly moved to bow, but Yuan Ran instinctively said, “No need.”
Lin Qingyang also stood up naturally, indicating that he didn’t want anything, as he should.
Yuan Ran paused for a moment, withdrew his gaze, and continued discussing other matters, as if brushing off the issue. Others found it strange; while everyone would show humility, it was customary for the new emperor to bestow rewards. Is Lin Qingyang likable or not?
Lin Qingyang didn’t pay much attention to the matter, but Yuan Ran, while handling state affairs outwardly, was in turmoil internally.
Perhaps he shouldn’t have asked Lin Qingyang just now; he felt incredibly awkward. According to what they said about their relationship, the only thing he could offer was… a royal marriage, the position of empress. Anything else might seem like brushing him off, which could hurt his feelings. But now… he couldn’t even be close to Lin Qingyang. How could he…
Maybe he should wait. Maybe he would understand in a month.
However, in that moment just now, why did Lin Qingyang’s expression seem so… strange? Yuan Ran couldn’t shake the feeling that he had missed something important, and he felt increasingly uneasy.
After the morning court session, Lin Qingyang didn’t walk with him anymore.
Yuan Ran immediately felt uncomfortable and asked, “Where’s Lin Qingyang?”
Lu Yi paused for a moment. “Your Majesty, Lin Qingyang mentioned yesterday that there were guests at the residence, and he had to attend to them.”
Yuan Ran paused for a moment, recalling that Lin Qingyang had indeed mentioned it, and then nodded. “Ah, yes.”
Lu Yi hesitated for a moment but remained silent.
Meanwhile, Lin Qingyang was happily welcoming Pei Jin and Xinyue at home. It was said that his uncle had brought them to the separate courtyard, as they had nowhere else to stay. Chang Jun was also temporarily staying there.
However, Uncle had left early, and there was still no news about where he had taken Xu Wenze.
“Lin Qingyang!”
A pink figure rushed over, Lin Qingyang quickly stopped Xinyue’s overly enthusiastic demeanor, instinctively worried that Yuan Ran might get jealous. It was only after seeing Xinyue’s displeased expression that he realized Yuan Ran wasn’t there.
“Ha ha, long time no see, both of you. By the way, about your reward, I think we’ll have to wait another half month.”
“It’s okay, we helped because of you,” Pei Jin smiled and approached. “Why are you alone? Isn’t he sticking to you? I thought you couldn’t come back.”
Lin Qingyang chuckled dryly. “He’s busy.”
“As for the new emperor being Chu Lishu, well… I still dislike him. It’s good that he’s not here. Lin Qingyang, you can spend time with us now. The capital is no longer under lockdown.”
“Okay, no problem. Besides… I’m better off not attending court recently,” Lin Qingyang pondered. After all, Yuan Ran seemed uncomfortable when he was around. It would be better to give him some space. “So, I can hang out with you guys for about half a month if you want to stay longer.”
“Is it true?” Xinyue exclaimed in disbelief.
Pei Jin looked surprised. “How is that possible? He agreed? Did something happen between you two?”
“Did something happen?” Xinyue immediately became excited.
Lin Qingyang felt a headache coming on. “No, nothing happened, really.”
Pei Jin narrowed her eyes. “By the way, with the new emperor ascending, the harem is empty. It’s time for the ministers to propose the selection of a queen and choose the candidates from the imperial concubines.”
Lin Qingyang was taken aback for a moment, not having considered this possibility. He felt a bit awkward and said, “Maybe.”
Xinyue immediately exclaimed, “What? He wants to marry someone else, that unfaithful man!”
“It’s not like that. Just because others think so doesn’t mean he intends to do that. Don’t worry, everything will be fine,” Lin Qingyang chuckled. He still believed in Yuan Ran in this regard. Even with amnesia, he wouldn’t make such a decision lightly without being sure. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have kept him by his side after losing his memory.
“You’re always siding with him!” Xinyue protested, then suddenly her eyes lit up. “Lin Qingyang, since you have half a month free, why not accompany us back to the Western Moon Kingdom? We can travel around, enjoying the scenery, consider it as a way to repay me and Pei Jin, what do you say?”
Lin Qingyang was taken aback. “Well…”
“Anyway, you don’t need to attend court for the time being, right? So, come with us. Let’s go to the Western Moon Kingdom and have some fun. Can you bear to let the two of us ladies travel alone?” Xinyue immediately winked at Pei Jin.
Pei Jin caught on, saying, “Great idea, Lin Qingyang. It’s just a small request. You wouldn’t refuse, would you? Besides, if you stick too close to His Majesty again in the future, you won’t have the freedom to go out and have fun with us. Why not take this chance to relax?”
Lin Qingyang couldn’t deny that Pei Jin’s words were quite tempting. Thinking about Yuan Ran after he regained his memories, he probably wouldn’t allow him to go out and play. Considering his own situation, maybe this half-month could be his last bachelor holiday. Yuan Ran could handle state affairs without any issues now, and there were no dangers lurking around him anymore. It would be safe to leave for a while.
”Alright, I’ll consider it,” Lin Qingyang said with a smile.
The two sisters immediately applauded, exchanging a knowing glance. If Yuan Ran dared to marry someone else, they would make sure Lin Qingyang stayed behind. Perfect!
Since they were planning a journey, money became a concern. However, Lin Qingyang felt a pang of sadness realizing that the funds from the Lin family, which were previously used to settle the false decree matter, had been completely depleted due to his actions. Suddenly feeling poor, Lin Qingyang couldn’t help but lament the fact that not only did they lack money, but the family’s assets had also been sold off.
Lin Qingyang instantly felt resentful. There were times when he lacked points with the system, and times when he lacked money without it. Was he supposed to freeload off these two beauties? His pride couldn’t bear it. Maybe he should ask Yuan Ran for some money first. He regretted not asking for a bit of gold ingots this morning when boasting about his achievements.
Worrying about travel expenses, Lin Qingyang accompanied the two young ladies for a stroll around the streets, and they happened to run into Dai Xueyang. As a result, Lin Qingyang ended up paying for everything for the three beauties, leaving his wallet empty.
Lin Qingyang couldn’t resist the urge to go to the Liu’s residence across the street to see if there was anything he could exchange for money.
Meanwhile, Yuan Ran found himself unable to sleep either. With Lin Qingyang not in the next room, it felt like something was missing.
“Why hasn’t he returned? He should have come back after entertaining the guests. Shouldn’t he be back in the evening?” Yuan Ran couldn’t help but wonder aloud.
The voice of Lu Yi came, “The courtyard is a distance away from the palace. Lin Qingyang didn’t say he would come back for the night.”
“Now that his identity is unknown, he might have heard about the proposal from the ministers for the master to marry. It might be embarrassing for him to come back and face it.” Lu Shi sounded a bit reproachful.
“He probably doesn’t know,” Yuan Ran’s tone became somewhat urgent.
“He shouldn’t know,” Lu Yi said.
Yuan Ran fell silent for a moment and asked, “Who is he entertaining?”
Before Lu Shi could respond, Lu Yi interjected, “Two women.”
“Women?” Yuan Ran sat up abruptly.
“Yes, they are women who once had feelings for Lin Qingyang, but they also helped the master, so Lin Qingyang’s hospitality is also on behalf of the master…”
Yuan Ran couldn’t hear the rest of the conversation. He immediately said, “Since he’s with me, how can he be with other women…”
“Do you want to call him back, Your Majesty?” Lu Yi asked.
Yuan Ran was about to speak but felt an unusual surge of anger, leaving him momentarily stunned. After a pause, he said, “No need. We have court tomorrow; he’ll come back. If he behaves improperly, then… I’ll have to rein him in a bit.”
After Yuan Ran finished speaking, he tried to calm his emotions and lay back down. He wasn’t someone who was easily swayed, so why…
If Lin Qingyang admired him, how could he not be cautious? He realized he had acted wrongly, and… and… why didn’t he come back to sleep?
Was he angry with me? Or perhaps… these past few days, I only let him sleep in the side hall, was he upset about that?
Listening to everyone’s words, he should be absolutely devoted to himself, and losing his memory was indeed unfair to him. But that wasn’t something he did willingly! How could he act out against himself like this?
Clearly, the two of them… had come a long way to reach this point.
He even promised him the position of Empress, which must have been a significant decision. How could he… turn around and spend time with a woman who liked him?
Yuan Ran spent the night sleepless.
The next day at court, Lin Qingyang unexpectedly claimed illness and didn’t attend.
Perhaps noticing Lin Qingyang’s absence, a minister directly proposed the matter of appointing an empress.
For the first time, Yuan Ran lost his temper, instructing the ministers to prioritize handling the southern floods before discussing anything else. Then, he hurriedly adjourned the court session and immediately ordered Lu Yi to summon Lin Qingyang into the palace.
Lu Yi hurried off to carry out the order.
Mu Huichun came at the usual time to check his pulse, noticing his dark expression. He chuckled, “I thought you had regained your memory. Only Lin Qingyang could ever make you look like this before.”
Yuan Ran replied irritably, “It’s because of him.”
“Huh? But he’s not here. How could he make you angry?” Mu Huichun asked in confusion.
“It’s all because of him… Wait, what’s that smell on you?” Yuan Ran wrinkled his nose.
Mu Huichun immediately frowned, complaining, “It’s all because of you, making me prepare a year’s worth of ointment before your trip. Do you know how much that is? I’ve been buried in the pharmacy every day, of course, I’ve picked up some smell.”
Yuan Ran puzzled, “What ointment? Aren’t I already healed?”
Mu Huichun disdainfully remarked, “Of course, it’s the ointment I prepared for Lin Qingyang. Forget it, since you don’t remember, I won’t bother telling you.”
Yuan Ran’s cheeks flushed instantly. Not remembering didn’t mean he didn’t understand.
“Is it… a lot?” Yuan Ran asked awkwardly.
“Don’t worry, it’s enough for you for a year,” Mu Huichun rolled his eyes.
“I meant… are we usually… so… intimate?” Yuan Ran stuttered.
Mu Huichun chuckled coldly, as if mocking Yuan Ran. Silence spoke louder than words at this moment, and Mu Huichun didn’t want to discuss these matters. Confirming that Yuan Ran was physically fine, he got up and left.
But Yuan Ran was already tangled in a complex web of thoughts.
He… was pretty sure he didn’t have such strong desires. He knew himself well enough. Even if he changed, he wasn’t passionate about that aspect of life. So, he couldn’t believe he’d be willing to go to extremes for Lin Qingyang. Well, maybe if they faced life and death together, their bond would indeed be profound.
But in terms of desire, he should be very discreet and unenthusiastic. However, if his junior brother said so, then the one with strong needs must be Lin Qingyang.
As a qualified lover, he was only fulfilling his needs, but he hadn’t expected Lin Qingyang, at such a young age, to be so indulgent.
So, yesterday he didn’t come home, and today he’s not back again. Could that be part of the reason? Frustration leading to complaints?
Then why don’t they… give it a try?
What if he could accept it? Then he wouldn’t have to make Lin Qingyang feel bad. They could peacefully spend the remaining half month together, and he wouldn’t regret it once his memory returned.
He pondered over this question for who knows how long, until Lin Qingyang was already brought over by Lu Yi.
“You wanted to see me?” Lin Qingyang appeared perfectly normal, but Yuan Ran could see through the forced smile.
Yuan Ran waved his hand, dismissing Lu Yi and Lu Shi, and approached Lin Qingyang, studying him carefully.
Lin Qingyang looked puzzled. “Is there something wrong?”
Yuan Ran hesitated for a moment. “You didn’t attend court today.”
“Oh, I was with the three young ladies.”
“Th-three?” Yuan Ran was stunned. How did another one come into the picture? Was this a challenge to him?
No… no, he shouldn’t be angry. He needed to placate him. Lin Qingyang was devoted to him, even if it meant sacrificing his own feelings. Yuan Ran couldn’t let him be upset again.
Lin Qingyang paused, not understanding. He thought Lu Yi and Lu Shi had explained everything clearly.
“Yesterday, when I wanted to reward you, it wasn’t for any other reason. I just wanted to tell you,” Yuan Ran summoned his courage, taking Lin Qingyang’s hand, though his ears were burning red. “Whatever you want… I promise.”
Lin Qingyang immediately felt excited, not noticing their intertwined hands as it had become a familiar gesture. He thought to himself that it seemed like whatever he lacked, he would receive it.
Lin Qingyang grinned mischievously. “Anything I want, and you’ll give it to me for real?”
Yuan Ran nodded, his brows trembling slightly, fully prepared for whatever request Lin Qingyang might make. He was even considering taking the initiative to embrace him, hinting that Lin Qingyang could ask for something excessive.
However, Lin Qingyang spoke directly, “Gold, fertile land, beautiful women, and permission to go on a journey for half a month to enjoy a free life.”
Yuan Ran froze, his expression blank. “Ah?”
Lin Qingyang chuckled, “Just kidding. I promised to escort Princess Xinyue back to her country and accompany them on a journey along the way. But considering I spent a lot of money helping you deal with those false accusations, my pockets are empty now. I don’t have any money or property left. So, if you could consider it as a reward for me, it would be great. Otherwise, if I go to the Western Moon Kingdom for fun, I’ll have to rely on the princesses’ treat, which would be embarrassing. Besides, you still have half a month to recover your memory. I’ll go out and have some fun during this time, and by the time I return, you’ll be back to normal. How about it? With me gone, you can relax a bit.”
Yuan Ran: …
Had he given up on the decree for the empress? Did he reject the position of empress? He asked for gold and land? And accompany beautiful women?
Yuan Ran felt layers of anger surging to his forehead.
“What’s wrong? Is it not okay? Didn’t you say you could ask for anything?” Lin Qingyang also felt a bit uneasy. He thought he was considering Yuan Ran’s feelings. Yuan Ran was too gentle; perhaps he didn’t want to stay with him now without his memories and was only pretending not to hurt his feelings.
Lin Qingyang couldn’t bear it, so he left, deciding not to act so melodramatic for just half a month.
But the next moment, Yuan Ran smiled and agreed, “A king’s word is his bond.”
However, his smile looked awkward no matter how you looked at it.
Lin Qingyang accepted the decree and rewards, bid farewell with a seemingly radiant smile. He even had the audacity to ask, “Can I give you a hug?”
Yuan Ran directly refused.
Lin Qingyang didn’t mind either, thinking there would be another chance later.
Yuan Ran was on the verge of exploding with anger, and then came in both Lu Yi and Lu Shi to ask him.
Yuan Ran still wanted to ask someone else, their agreed unseparable feelings, how could he leave so easily?
But Lu Shi didn’t catch on and was anxious for both of them. “It must be fake. How could he bear to leave? I know, he must have heard about today’s court affairs and got angry with you. He probably said that to upset you!”
“Upset me?” Yuan Ran gritted his teeth. “Is he getting a bit too arrogant because of my favoritism? Does he… usually act like this? Do I spoil him so much?”
Lu Yi wanted to interject, but Lu Shi nodded firmly. “He wouldn’t bear to leave you. It must be fake. Of course, you spoil him. You let him do anything he wants.”
Yuan Ran was angry. He had tried so hard to accommodate Lin Qingyang even though he’s with the unexpected amnesia, even at the expense of his own feelings. How could Lin Qingyang… Forget it, let him vent. If Yuan Ran ignored it, maybe it would stop.
With this thought in mind, Yuan Ran really didn’t pay attention until that day’s court session, when Yue Chen and Huo Luo were whispering together.
Yuan Ran immediately asked, “What are you two ministers so focused on? What are you whispering about?”
Huo Luo glanced at Yuan Ran, while Yue Chen cleared his throat and smiled, saying, “Oh, it’s nothing. We just heard that Lord Lin and beauties set out on a journey this morning, and we were envious, so we discussed it.”
In an instant, Yuan Ran’s entire aura changed, and the color of his eyes began to shift.
“You said he left?”
Yue Chen nodded, but Huo Luo realized something was wrong and quickly added, “He just left.”
Suddenly, the entire court, both civil and military officials, saw a flash of bright yellow figure passing by, and a voice echoed in the air, “Huo Luo, gather the troops and follow me!”
Everyone present: Is this guy going to war?!
Outside the city, Lin Qingyang rode in a luxurious carriage, accompanied by gold, chatting and laughing with Xinyue and Pei Jin. Although reluctant to part, it was a trip after all, so who wouldn’t be happy?
Suddenly, the urgent sound of horse hooves echoed, and a neigh startled the spirited horses pulling his luxurious carriage, causing them to stop abruptly.
“It’s strange, why do I hear the sound of Chiteng?”
Accompanied by the rhythmic footsteps and the thundering of hooves, Shuncai exclaimed in astonishment, “Young Master, we’re surrounded by the army!”
Lin Qingyang immediately drew back the curtain, staring in disbelief at the army led by Huo Luo that had surrounded him, speechless. “This… this…”
Suddenly, a bright yellow figure leaped into the carriage—it was Yuan Ran.
Before anyone could react, he roughly threw Pei Jin and Xinyue out of the carriage, leaving only Lin Qingyang.
Lin Qingyang was stunned.
“Yuan Ran, you…” Lin Qingyang looked at Yuan Ran with a fierce and ruthless look in his eyes, gradually turning red, with a hint of moisture as if tears were forming. Lin Qingyang felt that something was wrong.
Wasn’t this the same intense look Yuan Ran used to have? Lin Qingyang could hear the hoarse and aggrieved tone in Yuan Ran’s voice, yet it carried a hint of obsessive determination. “Traveling? You can only take me, otherwise, don’t even think about leaving!”
“You’ve regained your memory?” Lin Qingyang asked in astonishment.
But Yuan Ran didn’t answer. Instead, he stared at Lin Qingyang fiercely, as if he wanted to devour him whole.
With a lift of his hand, a Silver Rainbow shot out, instantly binding Lin Qingyang’s hands. The sound of the bells seemed to trigger something in Yuan Ran’s memory, prompting him to act immediately, suppressing any resistance from Lin Qingyang.
“Yuan Ran?!”
“Lin Qingyang, you’ve broken your promise again. You said you’d never leave me. How do you think I should punish you?” Yuan Ran’s voice carried a dangerous undertone as he spoke near Lin Qingyang’s ear once more.
Lin Qingyang’s heart skipped a beat. “No… it’s not… this is…”
But before Lin Qingyang could defend himself, Yuan Ran’s furious kiss descended upon him, filled with overwhelming anger.
“Lin Qingyang, dare to try leaving me again, for any reason, and it won’t be allowed. You are mine, forever mine!” Yuan Ran declared, consumed by his rage, not caring about the surroundings as he engulfed Lin Qingyang entirely.
In the haze of Lin Qingyang’s dazed eyes, memories of the fear of being dominated by the carriage flashed back, but by the time he wanted to resist, it was already too late.
That day, the army surrounded the area, stationed in position, but under General Huo’s instructions, they gradually moved outward. After all, there were occasional disturbances coming from the carriage, leaving those who heard it blushing.
As night fell, proposed by Lu Yi and Lu Shi, and approved by General Huo, the carriage slowly made its way back to the palace.
That day, onlookers were kept at bay by guards, not allowed to approach. They could only see the luxurious carriage’s curtains trembling slightly, as if there was movement inside. There was also the sound of crisp bells ringing out.
On that day, Pei Jin and Xinyue were grumbling as they were brought back to the capital, reportedly invited to attend the ceremony.
The next day, a decree was issued, announcing the Empress.
Surprisingly, the one chosen as Empress was Lin Qingyang.
The court was in an uproar, everyone finding it difficult to accept, but unable to refute it. After all, the decree had been issued, and they weren’t veteran officials who could directly oppose the Emperor. The six ministers of the ministries remained silent, the Ministry of Rites claimed it was the will of heaven, the influential Dai family nodded in agreement, and the powerful General Huo and Prime Minister Yue both offered their congratulations. The Grand General Qi from the border just happened to return, claiming to have come to observe the ceremony? Even Lin Qingyang’s maternal family, the newly rehabilitated Prince Wang Liu Jingchen, had a smile on his face, looking like he was about to marry off his cousin.
What else could they say?
This situation has truly become absurd.
But for the people of the world, they have become calm. After all, the Crown Prince miraculously came back to life, and there have been emperors who ascended the throne before they were even born. In comparison, this doesn’t seem so bad. After all, it’s been said that this Empress saved the Emperor’s life during a moment of peril.
Well, a male Empress won’t be favored for long. The Emperor will eventually need heirs, and the harem will inevitably expand. Such absurdity won’t last too long.
However, they probably didn’t expect that this absurdity would last a lifetime. The Emperor’s exclusive favor towards the male Empress would shock everyone for generations to come.
The Yuan dynasty bloodline ended in this generation, but the Great Zhou dynasty, which emerged through □□, slowly developed and selected its heir. Because it wasn’t based on hereditary succession, the Great Zhou dynasty flourished during Yuan Ran’s reign, becoming an empire that lasted for centuries, known as the Eternal Divine Kingdom.
Yuan Ran’s life was filled with both praise and criticism, yet he was the most mysterious and admired legendary emperor. He commanded countless great generals, ushering in the most prosperous era of rapid development. His achievements were unparalleled by future rulers, serving as a model for emulation by all. It seemed as though such a person could only exist in legends.
His Empress also had enduring rumors surrounding him. He wasn’t just an ordinary Empress confined to the harem; instead, he pioneered joint rule with the Emperor. They never hesitated between each other, supporting one another throughout their lives. Their bond seemed even more incredible than the legends surrounding them.
……
The second night, Lin Qingyang, barely awake, supported his almost broken waist and looked at the imperial decree.
Glancing at it again, and realizing that Yuan Ran hadn’t fully recovered his memory yet, Lin Qingyang… Would he meet a miserable end once Yuan Ran remembered everything? How could he forget about this taboo of Yuan Ran’s? Was there any hope left if he tried to escape now?
“What are you thinking about?” Yuan Ran embraced him from behind.
Lin Qingyang suddenly shuddered, realizing that fleeing would only make things worse. He quickly put on an act and said, “I was just thinking about when you’ll regain your memory. You don’t know how sad I am when you forget about me.”
Yuan Ran immediately felt guilty. “I’m sorry. I won’t forget again in the future.”
“And you just bullied me earlier, it hurt.”
“Let me massage it for you? I’ll be gentler from now on, I promise not to let you suffer.”
“Yeah, you promise, you swear, you absolutely can’t break your word.”
“Alright.”
“Yuan Ran, let me teach you a phrase from our hometown.”
“What?”
Lin Qingyang cupped Yuan Ran’s face and said affectionately, “I love you, Yuan Ran. I’m willing to be with you for the rest of my life.”
Yuan Ran was momentarily stunned, but then he spoke from the heart, “I love you too, Lin Qingyang. We must be together for eternity.”
In the emperor’s chamber, the bell rang once again, accompanied by complaints and cloying sounds.
