My Corpse is Bohemian Chapter 115

Chapter 115: Shutting Her Out?

<Previous Chapter<Table of Contents>Next Chapter>

After spending some time comforting Madam Dong and checking her vital signs to ensure there were no problems, An Bu prepared to take her leave.

Just as she opened the door, she saw Dong Chengshao accompanied by two stern-looking old men walking towards her.

“Step aside,” Dong Chengshao snapped at An Bu.

Seeing the confrontation, An Bu quietly stepped aside to let them enter the room.

The three men walked to the bedside, and one of the bald old men said to Madam Dong lying on the bed, “Younger sister, feeling a bit better today?”

Madam Dong stared blankly at the ceiling, slipping into a state of senile dementia.

“Chengshao, has your mother always been like this?” the bald old man asked Dong Chengshao.

Dong Chengshao shrugged, “Yeah, every time I come, she’s like this.”

The bald old man then turned to the other old man in a Zhongshan suit and said, “It seems she might not even be able to write a will. How should we handle the inheritance issue?”

The man in the Zhongshan suit replied, “The inheritance of our Dong family should naturally be inherited by the Dong family members. Even if there’s no will, it doesn’t matter. This house, including the company’s shares, will be inherited by Chengshao. As for Jiayi, she’s going to get married anyway, so just leave her a couple of million as dowry.”

Jiayi was Madam Dong’s daughter and also the one who hired An Bu.

“Let the two uncles handle this matter.” Dong Chengshao said delightedly.

An Bu noticed a subtle change in Madam Dong’s expression, but it quickly disappeared.

The two old men chatted beside Madam Dong’s bed, discussing inheritance and posthumous matters as if no one else was present. After listening for a while, An Bu understood the situation somewhat.

The Dong family was a large family with conservative values, and they favored males over females. After Madam Dong married into the family, she only gave birth to a daughter, and there were no more children. The elders of the Dong family were very dissatisfied, so they decided to adopt a boy from among the relatives to inherit the family name, which turned out to be Dong Chengshao. He was already 12 years old at the time, so how could he truly regard Madam Dong as his mother?

An Bu couldn’t understand this approach at all. Putting in so much effort to raise someone else’s son, and still having to pass on their own property to him. Madam Dong might not have been willing, but she eventually accepted the arrangement. With her days numbered, she might want to do something for her daughter, hence pretending to be ignorant and avoiding the coercion from the Dong family.

Glancing at the time, Dong Chengshao and the other two had been here for half an hour already. An Bu spoke up, “Madam Dong needs rest, please go out and talk.”

The two old men looked displeased at An Bu.

Dong Chengshao snapped, “When the master speaks, what business do you have interfering?”

“It’s almost lunchtime now, would you three like to stay for a meal?”

The two old men frowned, stood up, and said, “No, we should take our leave as well. Chengshao, you should come with us.”

Dong Chengshao agreed and then gave An Bu a glare before leaving the room with the two old men.

An Bu knew why they left; it was because Miss Dong didn’t like them, and encountering her would be awkward.

“Gone?” Madam Dong asked wearily.

“Yes.” An Bu lowered the curtains, then returned to the bedside and poured a cup of warm water for Madam Dong.

Madam Dong waved her trembling hand, “You should go too, I’m feeling tired.”

“Then rest well.” An Bu didn’t insist and left after a few reminders.

She could probably guess why Madam Dong pretended to be ignorant; she wanted to secretly write her will during this time. If others found out beforehand, she and Miss Dong would likely face heavy pressure.

However, this was their family matter, and An Bu wasn’t interested in getting involved; she believed Madam Dong had her own plans.

Back home, Jian Ningxuan had gone out for something, so An Bu prepared a loving dinner and sent him a photo, urging him to understand the sentiment. A few minutes later, she received a photo in return, with the same background of the dinner she sent, except the food on the plate had been replaced by a close-up photo of their cat, conveying the same sentiment back to her.

An Bu smiled and immediately made a cat-shaped cake, waiting for someone to come back and feed it to them.

Late in the evening, Jian Ningxuan returned home, took a shower, changed into comfortable pajamas, and then the two of them sat on the couch, each holding a piece of the cat-faced cake, watching a movie.

They were watching “My Date with a Zombie” (Parallel World Version), where the male lead was an immortal zombie, and the female lead was a sorcerer who hunted demons. They fell in love and fought each other, ultimately perishing together.

An Bu asked, “Mr. Jian, what would you do if you fell in love with a zombie?”

“Marry her,” Jian Ningxuan replied decisively.

Hey, shouldn’t you consider that before answering?

“But she’s a zombie!” An Bu looked at him in astonishment. “Aren’t you afraid?”

“What’s there to be afraid of? Besides, she loves me too.”

“Just because you love each other doesn’t mean you can be together. Your ages don’t match, your lifespans don’t match, and besides, you have to worry about whether she might harm society.”

“Zombies mainly harm society because they’re hungry. Just feed her, and it’ll be fine.” Jian Ningxuan offered his arm to An Bu. “Here, you can have my blood.”

“….I don’t drink human blood,” An Bu said.

Jian Ningxuan regretfully withdrew his hand. “A zombie who doesn’t even drink human blood, what harm could she do to society?”

An Bu: “…” To be honest, do you know something?

“You really don’t care about these things?” she asked uncertainly.

Jian Ningxuan patted her head. “I was prepared to live out my days alone.”

And then?

“After meeting you, I knew I couldn’t keep my virginity.”

An Bu: “….”

“You said, I’ve given you even my cherished virginity, what else is there to care about?”

What’s there to be “proud” about virginity?!

An Bu couldn’t believe Jin Ningxuan would spout such nonsense seriously.

“Well then,” she rolled over, straddled his lap, and stamped her seal, “I won’t be polite anymore, let’s pick an auspicious day for the wedding.”

Sparkling lights danced in Jian Ningxuan’s eyes. “It’s up to you.”

The next day, An Bu arrived at the Dong residence brimming with energy. Upon entering the bedroom, she found those two old men from yesterday had returned. Besides them, there were a few unfamiliar faces, likely Dong family’s close relatives.

“Younger sister-in-law, where did you put the key to the treasure room?” the bald old man leaned in and asked her softly.

Madam Dong looked blankly ahead, murmuring incoherently.

“What did you say? Speak up!” the bald old man raised his voice.

An Bu stared coldly at them. Did these people think Madam Dong was about to pass away tomorrow, so they rushed over to extract information? This was truly going too far!

“What are you doing here?” she pushed the wheelchair to the bedside and said indifferently, “I’m sorry, but I need to take Madam Dong out for a walk now. Please move aside.”

The bald old man looked up at her. “You’re the end-of-life caregiver that Jiayi hired, right?”

“Yes.”

“Money spent in vain. People are about to die, what’s the point of all this fuss?” The bald old man scoffed at the profession of an end-of-life caregiver.

An Bu retorted without hesitation, “Indeed, people all eventually end up dead. Since that’s the case, what are you doing here making a fuss? You might as well stay at home and wait for your natural death.”

That was quite a harsh remark, and it made the bald old man flush red with anger. Pointing at her, he exclaimed, “How dare you speak to me like that?”

“How I speak doesn’t matter. What matters is how you treat a seriously ill elderly person.” In terms of age, An Bu was older than them by several rounds; there was no need for her to consider their face.

“A well-behaved girl, why are you so uncouth?” commanded a middle-aged man in a suit, “Leave, this is none of your business here.”

“What do you mean it’s none of my business? I’m not paid by you.” Stepping forward, An Bu swiftly lifted Madam Dong onto her wheelchair, guiding her out of the crowd and straight to the backyard.

The crowd was bewildered, “…” What just happened?

“Are you not afraid of them causing trouble for you by doing this?” Madam Dong’s lips moved faintly.

“Whether it’s a battle of words or fists, they are no match for me.” An Bu entrusted the verbal battles to her house cat and was ready to confront them physically. Just a bunch of stubborn old men, their impact was probably less than that of a crab.

“Don’t underestimate them. They could blacklist you, making it impossible for you to find work in this city,” Madam Dong cautioned.

An Bu chuckled, If she can’t find work, she bet Mr. Jian Ningxuan will be delighted. It means she can enjoy being pampered at home every day.

“In that case, let them blacklist me. I really want to see how many domains they can blacklist me from,” An Bu boasted confidently. With her skills and connections, she spanned across various industries like a ghost, not to boast, but even the President of the country might not be able to blacklist her.
