Jian Ningxuan turned around, casting a penetrating gaze over An Bu.
An Bu spread her hands naturally, “Look, I’m intact.”
“The clothes you wore when you left weren’t these,” he revealed.
“Uh…”
“Come in, let’s talk.” Jian Ningxuan pulled An Bu into the tent. He was about to pour her some water when he noticed Jianjian in the cup.
Jianjian stuck to the transparent plastic cup like an octopus, its tentacles raised high in the direction of An Bu, shaking vigorously in the water.
“Jianjian.” Seeing its proud appearance, An Bu knew it had successfully completed the task and praised, “Well done.”
Jianjian flipped over joyfully in the water.
Jian Ningxuan could never understand how they communicated. It seemed that there were no differences in race, intellectual distance, or language barriers between them.
He set down the cup in his hand and took another clean one, pouring a glass of warm water for An Bu.
An Bu took the glass and handed him the chip.
“What’s this?” Jian Ningxuan wiped the stains off the chip with a tissue, his face showing confusion.
“It may be the truth about the harm against Molly’s parents.” Ann recounted her experiences in the forest and her speculations to Jian Ningxuan, omitting the fact that she had been shot by an arrow and led a group of indigenous people in a wild chase in the forest.
“So, currently, we can confirm that six people have been murdered, Yutafu and Shila are temporarily safe, and Mo Dongxiao and Dr. McGee are missing?” Jian Ningxuan said thoughtfully.
An Bu nodded and brought up the photos in the camera, pointing at Smith and Doyle. “Check the background of these two people. They must know where Mo Dongxiao and Dr. McGee are. Especially this Doyle person, he’s likely an accomplice.”
Jian Ningxuan carefully examined them for a few moments, then took out the camera’s memory card and stored it together with the chip.
“Alright,” he said seriously. “Now, tell me about your injury.”
“My injury?” Was this the rhythm of confessing and resisting you?
“You’re injured,” Jian Ningxuan said firmly.
“I’m not.” An Bu looked innocent. “I can undress to show you!”
Jian Ningxuan was unmoved. “Although you changed clothes, your shoes are seriously damaged, and there are blood stains on the vamp, indicating that you not only exercised vigorously but also suffered bleeding.”
Ann: “…” Mr. Jian, when did you become Sherlock Holmes?”
Jian Ningxuan stared at her without speaking, waiting for her to confess voluntarily.
An Bu approached him, took his hand, and gently placed it on her abdomen. “Here, I’m a little injured.”
Jian Ningxuan squatted down slowly, holding her waist with one knee on the ground, and pressed his face against her abdomen, as if he was healing her.
An Bu felt a warm sensation in her abdomen, and the injured area seemed to ache faintly, then was soothed by a warm flow.
The person in his arms had no heartbeat, no pulse, no breath, no signs of life that any living person should have. Although Jian Ningxuan tried not to care, he still felt fearful in his heart, as if she wouldn’t wake up if he closed his eyes. He could do nothing but share everything he could feel with her.
“Mr. Jian.” An Bu extended a finger and poked him on the head. “If you keep hugging me like this, I’ll get pregnant.”
Jian Ningxuan: “…”
“Then I’ll have a litter of kittens, and I won’t be just your poop scooper.”
Jian Ningxuan let her go, a hint of a smile flashing in his eyes, looking at her softly. His Bubu was still so full of vitality.
“Bubu, promise me one thing.”
“What?”
“Don’t raise any other cats.”
“…”
The next day, Jian Ningxuan had someone pack up their belongings, and together with An Bu, they left the Agarvay Forest and returned to Pulos City, staying in a hotel.
In a luxurious suite, Jian Ningxuan opened his notebook and began to read the chip found by Ann.
The chip contained files with password locks, but for him, who was good at hacking, unlocking them was not difficult. After tens of minutes, the password lock was lifted, and folders appeared on the screen one by one. The folders were all named with code names, and their contents were only revealed upon opening.
Jian Ningxuan opened the earliest folder based on its creation time.
“Huh?” An Bu saw the content on the page and was somewhat surprised.
This folder recorded the developmental process of an embryo. Although she couldn’t understand the complex data, the pictures and text explanations were clear.
After reading it, both Jian Ningxuan and An Bu frowned.
It turned out to be an extravagant human experiment conducted by Mo Dongxiao and Yuan Jingyun on herself. They used their respective knowledge to deliberately cultivate life with a planned goal of developing a highly intelligent child. However, things did not go as planned. After the child was born, there were severe genetic defects, and life had to be maintained with medication. Even after two years, the child did not show any particularly outstanding intelligence. Disappointed, the couple had originally planned to conduct a second embryo experiment but accidentally discovered that the child’s blood had very special effects. So, they changed their research direction.
Data on blood research, recorded in other folders, had not been read by the two yet. However, it could be determined that their research subject was their daughter—Molly.
“What did they treat Molly as? An experimental subject?” An Bu’s impression of the couple plummeted.
Molly is adorable, although she may not have high intelligence, she is obedient and sensible. With proper nurturing, she may well achieve success and have a bright future. However, the couple only think about their own research and completely disregard Molly as their daughter.
What’s the result? They successfully developed a miracle drug but it brought about their downfall, and also implicated other innocent people.
If they were to publish this research, what would happen to Molly? Would she be sent to research institutions to become a lifelong blood donor?
“These data absolutely cannot be made public,” Anne’s tone was resolute.
Jian Ningxuan nodded in agreement.
Molly’s blood had powerful effects, and if used properly, it could indeed benefit all of humanity. However, human hearts are deceitful, and no one can guarantee that they won’t harm others for their own selfish desires. The murdered members of the research team were the best proof of this.
An Bu didn’t even want to rescue Mo Dongxiao anymore. Who knew if his rescue would bring danger to Molly?
