Chapter 129: Ghostly Shadows

“Chris, I happen to need to go to the bathroom. Shall we go together?” An Bu stood up and said to Derek, “You don’t mind, do you?”

Derek shrugged, “If you’re sure, I don’t mind, but you can’t bring any lighting devices.”

An Bu laughed, “No lighting devices? What if I fall into the toilet, will you come to rescue me?”

Before Derek could respond, Jian Ningxuan suddenly spoke up, “In this kind of environment, even with lighting devices, being alone in a narrow space requires a lot of courage. There’s no need to impose additional restrictions. It’s just a game. It wouldn’t be good if someone got hurt because of it.”

Derek thought about it and felt that he made sense, so he changed his tune, “Alright, you guys go. Come back after three minutes.”

“Yeah!” Chris exclaimed excitedly, jumping up and then pulling An Bu towards the bathroom.

After the two of them left, the others in the hall took out their phones to watch the live stream.

There were hundreds of viewers in the live stream, mostly international students from the forum, and various languages flew across the screen.

[I don’t believe in ghosts unless I see them with my own eyes… Oh my god, what did I just see? Is that a ghost?]

[There really are ghosts! I’ve encountered them before. My family sells amulets, do you want to buy one?]

[My God, there are only 7 of them? When they entered the haunted house just now, I clearly saw 7 figures, plus 1 filming!]

[Daring to play games in a haunted house, you guys are really amazing. I don’t think I can do it, just watching makes me scared.]

[These guys are incredibly stupid. I bet they won’t last an hour before they run out like ducks with burnt bottoms.]

[So annoying, why am I watching this late at night? I won’t be able to sleep tonight.]

[Ah ah ah, those European guys are so handsome! Please date me!]

[Yikes, so scary!]

[Hahaha, I was a little scared at first, but seeing comments in different languages suddenly makes me not afraid anymore.]

Peter and the others were having a great time watching the comments. The tension from seeing the ghost just now was greatly reduced, and they enthusiastically interacted with the viewers. They didn’t notice Jian Ningxuan quietly leaving the hall.

As he left, the death energy immediately converged, forming countless ghostly figures standing densely behind them, watching the live stream together with them.

Peter and the others were completely unaware, and the camera didn’t capture any ghostly figures either. However, their faces seemed to be covered with a layer of dark energy, looking extremely sinister and terrifying under the eerie blue light of their phones. They occasionally flashed creepy smiles, as if possessed by evil spirits.

Peter, Derek, Tammy, and Qian Zhi suddenly smiled at the camera, “Hehe, having fun?”

This sentence alone didn’t seem particularly strange, but when all four of them spoke simultaneously without any warning, with the same tone and speed, it became eerie.

The live stream fell into a dead silence, with only rows of ellipses and exclamation marks on the screen: “Hehe your sister! Having fun your sister! Are you guys pretending to be cool, or are you really possessed by ghosts? Babies are scared to death!!!”

On the other side, An Bu and Chris entered the bathroom, chatting as they took out their phones to watch the live stream. The small space was filled with an unpleasant smell, and the broken mirror on the wall reflected two dim figures.

With someone accompanying her, Chris wasn’t so afraid. She laughed as she watched the comments and occasionally translated some interesting ones to An Bu.

At this moment, Chris glanced at the mirror inadvertently, then casually looked away. An Bu was standing to her right, but due to the lighting, her features were somewhat blurred.

As soon as the three minutes passed, she immediately called out to An Bu, “Time’s up, let’s go.”

After saying that, she walked out of the bathroom first. However, as soon as she stepped out, she collided with a dark figure. The cold touch made her shiver, almost screaming in terror.

Looking closely, she realized it was An Bu. She breathed a sigh of relief and patted her chest, “An Bu, you scared me…”

But her words stopped abruptly, Chris’s face turned pale, and An Bu wasn’t behind her anymore. How did she suddenly appear in front of her?

“Chris, are you okay? I didn’t see you when I came out just now, so I was about to go back to find you,” An Bu said.

“When did you come out?”

“About 2 minutes ago?” An Bu checked the time and replied.

“2 minutes ago?” Chris looked at her in disbelief, “But didn’t we have to stay for 3 minutes? How did you come out early? And you didn’t say anything when you came out.”

An Bu looked puzzled, “But I did stay for 3 minutes before coming out, and I did call out to you when I came out. But you didn’t follow, so I waited for you outside for 2 minutes before seeing you.”

“How is that possible?” Chris couldn’t believe it. She glanced at the time on her phone and realized she had indeed spent an extra 2 minutes in the bathroom, and it was with something she didn’t know for sure!

Chris felt a chill down her spine and slowly turned her head, only to see darkness, nothing behind her.

“An Bu…” she said hoarsely, “I think I saw a ghost…”

“Is that so?” An eerie voice echoed in her ears, “Did you see a ghost, by any chance… who looks a lot like me?”

Confused, Chris turned back and suddenly saw a pale face almost next to hers, with two eyes devoid of whites, like two black holes, oozing black liquid slowly.

“Ah—!” Chris screamed, unable to hold on any longer, and ran away.

As An Bu calmly wiped away the tears condensed from death energy, she shouted after her frantic figure, “Chris, what’s wrong? Wait for me.”

With her shout, Chris ran even faster.

“There really are ghosts here, everyone run!” she rushed into the hall, shouting excitedly.

However, the hall fell silent, Peter and the others continued to stare at their phones, their faces showing eerie smiles, completely unresponsive to her appearance.

Chris shivered, “….What’s wrong with you guys?”

No one responded.

“Peter?” Chris walked to her boyfriend’s side and called him cautiously.

Peter continued to stare at his phone, chuckling.

Chris cautiously peered over and saw her own face on his phone screen.

“Ah—!” Chris was scared out of her wits, stumbling towards the door. However, she found the door locked, no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t open it.

“Ah ah ah, help!” She pounded on the door frantically, wishing she could crash through it.

The spacious and eerily silent hall echoed only with her cries.

An Bu stood in the shadows, silently observing. Couldn’t she try the windows if the door wouldn’t open?

She shook her head, ignoring Chris, and went to a window, waving outside, “Mr. Jian, come in.”

Jian Ningxuan, who was outside feeling the cold breeze, walked over. With a swift movement, he leaned against the window frame, then bent down and planted a kiss on An Bu’s cheek, “Payment.”

An Bu leaned in, returning the kiss, “Interest.”

Jian Ningxuan’s eyes softened, sparkling. The deathly aura dissipated, driven away by this display of affection.

Hand in hand, they returned to the hall, and wherever they went, the deathly atmosphere retreated, leaving clarity behind.

Chris was still screaming, while Peter and the others gradually regained their senses, completely unaware of what had happened.

Jian Ningxuan: “Are ghosts real?”

An Bu: “You could say they are.” Just not in the traditional sense.

Jian Ningxuan: “Then why have I never seen one?”

An Bu: “…Because you’re my cat.”

Jian Ningxuan: “Ah, I see.” His poop scooper was indeed skilled.

An Bu: Did he really believe that?
