Chapter 98: Going Against the Current

An Bu left work promptly at 9 o’clock. When she walked out of the building, she saw Jian Ningxuan waiting for her on the roadside.
He reached out, saying, “Let’s go home together.”
An Bu immediately ran over, grabbing his hand, and then waved behind her.
Jian Ningxuan turned his head and saw two young men in their twenties standing outside the building, smiling as they watched them leave.
Two sharp gazes quickly scanned them, concluding: no threat.
Jian Ningxuan calmly retracted his gaze and strolled home hand in hand with An Bu.
“Is work still going smoothly?” Jian Ningxuan asked.
“Very smoothly, everyone is very friendly.” Ignoring the fact that Young Master Shao was tossed to the point of near death, this statement was accurate.
“I remember your part-time job only lasts for a week.”
“Yes.” An Bu smiled and looked at him, “So, any plans after a week?”
“None.” Jian Ningxuan stared straight ahead without glancing sideways.
“Seeing your expression, I know you have something planned, but I won’t expose it.” After raising a cat master for so long, she had developed this kind of insight.
Jian Ningxuan: “…” And she still calls it not exposing?
“Mr. Jian, I’m really looking forward to your plans.” An Bu leaned her head on his shoulder.
Jian Ningxuan looked at her, his lips curled up, eyes filled with tenderness.
Back home, An Bu changed into slippers, and the first thing she did was check on Jian Jian. In the fish tank, the large-footed yellow wasp was still alive and well, but Jian Jian seemed to have lost interest in it. Lying lazily on the coral, Jian Jian immediately swam over when it saw An Bu, popped up from the water with a joyful spin.
An Bu gently poked it with her hand, and it promptly crawled up her finger, resting on her nail.
Just as she was about to play with it, she suddenly felt a strange presence in the house. An Bu raised her head, and her pitch-black eyes flickered slightly. Searching around, it seemed like there was nothing unusual.
“Do you want to take a bath?” Jian Ningxuan walked out of the room, holding a bathrobe.
“You go first; I’ll play with Jian Jian for a while.” An Bu wiggled her fingers.
Jian Ningxuan nodded and turned to enter the bathroom.
The moment the bathroom door closed, An Bu felt that strange presence again, and this time, it seemed to originate from Jian Ningxuan’s room.
An Bu turned to look at the bathroom, hearing the sound of rushing water. She hesitated for a moment but ultimately stepped to Jian Ningxuan’s room door, gently pushing it open.
Jian Ningxuan’s room was decorated very simply. On the right was a circular work table with four or five computers neatly placed on it. On the left were a wardrobe and a bed, arranged neatly and clearly visible.
An Bu usually only entered his room when cleaning, seldom touching his things. However, this strange presence made her pay attention. She had never sensed Yin energy around Jian Ningxuan, especially since he exuded strong Yang energy. Of course, she excluded herself from this observation.
Following this strange presence, An Bu came to the bedside table, pulled open the drawer, and found a high-quality square box. Taking it out, she opened it to reveal two elegantly shaped gemstone rings. Simultaneously, a strong Yin energy surged towards her.
“What is this…” A spirit? An Bu carefully examined the two gemstone rings. Judging from their appearance, they seemed to have some age but were well maintained. Unlike artifacts of the netherworld, these spirit objects were artificially nurtured, relatively less dangerous, and even had some positive effects, such as aiding sleep.
Two strands of black mist slowly overflowed from the rings, entwining around An Bu’s fingers, transmitting a joyful emotion as if meeting a loved one.
However, the spirit objects didn’t enjoy happiness for long. Jian Jian, who was just lying on An Bu’s fingertip, suddenly stood up, body swelling, and a portion of the black mist was cut off.
Jian Jian: Where did this contamination come from?
Spirit object: …
Just dealt with a god exorcist, and now there’s a purification ambassador. Life is tough!
The spirit object, with tears in its eyes, tremblingly retreated back into the gem.
An Bu looked at the two rings. Although they didn’t pose significant harm, it didn’t seem appropriate to have them around Jian Ningxuan. His strong Yang energy would provoke a reaction from the spirits, unconsciously expelling them from the rings and affecting others. Of course, it would be fine to keep them at home.
However, why did Jian Ningxuan buy these rings? Were they collectibles?
An Bu, engrossed in contemplating the presence of the spirit, completely ignored the significance of the rings themselves. It wasn’t until she placed the rings back in the drawer and walked out of the room that she suddenly realized.
Rings?! Two rings!
Is this the rhythm of proposing???
Jian Ningxuan, who emerged from the bathroom, saw An Bu squeezing juice in the kitchen and walked over, extending his hand to open the door, only to find that the glass door was locked from the inside.
“Bu Bu…” Why did she lock herself in the kitchen…
Jian Ningxuan still had no idea that the surprise he had prepared had been discovered by someone within a day, and was currently troubled by this matter.
An Bu opened the glass door, holding a cup of pale green vegetable juice as she walked out of the kitchen.
Seeing that she only carried a cup of vegetable juice, Jian Ningxuan approached. Turning his head to peek into the kitchen, he saw a pile of residues in the juicer, and there was no share for him.
Bu Bu always prepared double portions before. Why didn’t she prepare one for him this time?
Jian Ningxuan felt a little disappointed. Turning around, he sat beside An Bu in the living room, accompanying her to watch TV.
Watching her sip the vegetable juice, he also felt a bit thirsty. Getting up, he poured himself a cup of tea.
An Bu stared at the TV screen, pondering the possibility of marrying Jian Ningxuan. She had ignored this question before, always thinking that it was fine for the two of them to continue like this. However, Jian Ningxuan would definitely not allow her to live namelessly with him for a lifetime.
Marriage represented a commitment to each other for a lifetime. An Bu couldn’t give it, and he couldn’t either.
She could pretend not to know anything, happily living with Jian Ningxuan for ten, twenty, or thirty years. But when he aged, and the endless future awaited, how would she spend it alone?
For Jian Ningxuan, marriage was a blessing, but for An Bu, it was more like a curse.
Jian Ningxuan did not notice An Bu’s unease. He was happily planning the upcoming proposal action, unaware that An Bu was contemplating how to delay marriage or even make him give up the idea altogether.
Their thoughts, for the first time, went in opposite directions…
