Yuwen Chu’s lips were scorching hot, and his breath enveloped her, making Mingzhu panic and try to retreat, attempting to avoid his advances. But unexpectedly, when Yuwen Chu suddenly let go of her hand, she couldn’t control her backward fall.
Realizing she was falling with nothing to catch her, Mingzhu broke out in a cold sweat. The fall itself would be painful enough, but she feared being ridiculed by him afterward. How could she maintain her dignity as his principal wife in front of him? She felt a mix of resentment and grievance towards this villain! How could he still plot against her at a time like this!
As she neared the ground, Yuwen Chu suddenly caught her by the waist, lifting her up. But this time, there was no gentleness; instead, there was a wildness in his actions as he lifted her into the air, forcefully pulling her into his embrace.
Mingzhu’s heart sank one moment, and soared the next. She barely managed to let out a scream before crashing into his warm, broad embrace. She heard the dull sound of their bodies colliding and felt Yuwen Chu’s warmth seeping through the layers of fabric, spreading through her body like vines, rooting deep into her veins, dominating every inch of her, leaving no room to escape.
Oh no! This was bad! Mingzhu wanted to scream, to push Yuwen Chu away, but he held her hand tightly, lowering his head, inching closer towards her.
Amidst their entangled breaths, Mingzhu closed her eyes in resignation. This was a trial she had to endure, no matter who she married.
Yuwen Chu looked down at Mingzhu, the girl lying in his arms, her face as pale as paper, the rouge on her cheeks devoid of color, making her look pitiful, like a camellia petal battered by wind and rain. He frowned, pressing his fingers heavily against her lips, then pinching her nose. As expected, Mingzhu furrowed her brows, opening her eyes with anger, accusing him, “What are you doing?”
It was this spirited Mingzhu that he found most pleasing. Angered yet full of life, Yuwen Chu chuckled, “What do you think?”
Of course, he was teasing her! She thought she was about to be forced into a kiss, but instead, he toyed with her like this! Mingzhu was angry yet secretly relieved, pretending to be furious as she accused him, “You are indeed teasing me!” In her heart, she had thought of using this as an opportunity to quarrel, to gain a momentary respite. She had thought she was prepared to sacrifice herself, but in reality, the shadow left by Yuwen You was still too heavy on her, and she wasn’t as brave as she thought she was.
“Teasing you?” Yuwen Chu glanced at her meaningfully, suddenly pinching her chest, saying casually, “This is teasing.”
Mingzhu was furious and embarrassed, feeling like the place where he had pinched wasn’t her own anymore, a strange discomfort spreading through her body. She understood why, so she glared at him angrily, her face flushing with anger. She breathed heavily, wanting to find the perfect word to start a fight. Some things were much harder to do than she thought.
Yuwen Chu glanced at her indifferently, then pinched her chest on the other side, saying in a serious tone, “This is also teasing. Understand?”
“You…” Mingzhu felt her vocabulary was extremely limited, unable to find a suitable word to describe the person in front of her. With the most serious expression and tone, doing the most despicable things, yet acting as if it were perfectly reasonable.
“A hypocritical beast in human clothing?” Yuwen Chu, knowing what she was thinking, slowly voiced it for her. While he spoke, his hands were not idle, removing the luxurious hairpins and ornaments from her hair, throwing them to the ground. Finally, he lifted his hand, and her fine black hair fell cascaded down, falling and swaying, chillingly cold as it draped almost to the ground.
Yuwen Chu sighed, a different light shining in his eyes, smiling as he lifted Mingzhu and placed her on the spacious wedding bed, lying down beside her, whispering, “Someone bullied you, what will you do?”
Of course, she would fight back fiercely! Mingzhu was about to speak, but upon meeting Yuwen Chu’s bright eyes, she closed her mouth warily. He seemed eager for her to pinch him back, this cunning hypocritical beast! She wouldn’t fall for it!
So Mingzhu tightly shut her mouth, shaking her head at Yuwen Chu, meaningfully saying, “I won’t fall for your tricks!”
Yuwen Chu smiled faintly, gently undoing her gown. “Really won’t speak to me?”
Mingzhu hastily held onto her gown, her face flushing. “No.”
“Why not? We’ve married under the heavens, in front of our ancestors. Everyone in the world knows we are legally married.” Seeing her refusal to let him undress her, Yuwen Chu sat elegantly to the side, taking off his hat, then his heavy belt, setting aside the cumbersome ceremonial attire. He spoke unhurriedly, “Didn’t the elderly matrons teach you about the harmony between yin and yang? Since I am your husband, I have an obligation to make you happy.”
No, she wouldn’t feel happy at all. Mingzhu couldn’t help but think of those dark, endless days, where Yuwen You forced and humiliated her, even on the seventh day of her father and brother’s death anniversary. Apart from humiliation, there were also various forms of disgust and hatred towards her own incompetence. She shuddered, biting her lip quickly, “Actually, it’s you who’s happy, isn’t it?”
“You’re not wrong in saying that; I am indeed very happy,” responded Yuwen Chu with a slight surprise, then broke into a smile. His laughter resonated in his chest, exuding a strong masculine charm. However, Mingzhu was too preoccupied to pay attention, gripping her clothes tightly and watching Yuwen Chu vigilantly.
Yuwen Chu had already stripped down to his inner garment. He knelt in front of her, his figure tall and athletic, broad-shouldered and narrow-waisted. His easy smile was much more appealing than his usual cold demeanor. Mingzhu thought to herself, people always say he’s approachable and easy to talk to. Is it because they see him like this? Then why does he always show such a cold and hateful attitude towards me?
“Do you find this prince’s appearance pleasing, Your Highness?” Yuwen Chu leaned forward, forcing Mingzhu to retreat further back. But he continued to advance, smiling lightly, “Is it fear or shyness, Your Highness?”
Fear and shyness are different. Fear would mean she fundamentally dislikes him, even feels a bit repulsed by him. Shyness, on the other hand, would indicate willingness, just a momentary bashfulness. She couldn’t speak recklessly; it would affect their future cooperation. Mingzhu’s mouth felt dry, her words turning over in her mind before she trembled her lips and softly said, “Both.”
