Chapter 137: Morning Grumpiness

Yuwen Chu looked at Mingzhu and calmly asked, “Where does it hurt?”
Thinking of the bizarre things he had just done, Mingzhu felt that every word he said, every letter, was extremely improper. She said angrily, “Don’t you know where it hurts?”
“Would it hurt like that? Don’t exaggerate.” Yuwen Chu laughed, but when he saw Mingzhu’s eyes turning red with anger, he said seriously, “It’s different from before. This time, it definitely won’t hurt. I promise. Behave, listen to me, or else it really will hurt.”
“I won’t!” Mingzhu gritted her teeth. “Liar! How could it not hurt?” When she was with Yuwen You in the past, all she remembered was pain. The few times it didn’t hurt much were also extremely boring. After they fell out, it was even worse. Just thinking about it made her hate it and want to vomit. All her compliance and cooperation before were only because of Yuwen Chu’s care and tenderness. If he wanted to do strange things, she would definitely not endure it.
Yuwen Chu felt a little helpless seeing her so tense and full of fear and disgust. He sighed and stopped, soothing her, “Alright, let’s sleep.”
Mingzhu stared warily, her eyes widened. “Don’t try anything while I’m asleep.”
Yuwen Chu smiled mischievously, “Who knows? I sometimes sleepwalk and don’t know what I’m doing.”
Sleepwalking only existed in legends; she had never seen it happen. Mingzhu was very curious but was about to ask when she saw Yuwen Chu’s sly look and realized she was being teased again. She scolded, “Liar! I’m not stupid. Trying to trick me with this kind of thing.”
“Right, you’re not stupid, you’re just a bit curious,” Yuwen Chu laughed heartily, ignoring her struggles and objections as he held her tightly in his arms, closing his eyes first. “Sleep!”
Mingzhu squirmed uncomfortably, but seeing that Yuwen Chu had not opened his eyes at all, as if he really had fallen asleep, she relaxed too. Soon, drowsiness overwhelmed her, and unable to resist, she let out a gentle yawn. However, not completely at ease, she reached out and waved her hand in front of Yuwen Chu’s eyes. Seeing no response from him, she rolled over and found a comfortable position in his embrace, falling asleep.
The candles burned quietly in the room, with the gentle sound of wind outside the window. Yuwen Chu opened his eyes silently, gazing at Mingzhu sleeping in his arms.
She was still young, only seventeen, with a hint of baby fat on her face. Her long and thick eyelashes curled, concealing her usually domineering yet lively eyes. Her skin was very fair, like ivory, delicate and rosy lips slightly pouted, as if inviting a bite…
Suddenly, a tightness stirred in Yuwen Chu’s lower abdomen. The desire that had not been fully relieved before surged up instantly. He sighed and leaned his head closer to Mingzhu’s, wrapping his other arm around her, forcing himself to close his eyes.
After a while, Mingzhu quietly opened her eyes, sneaking a glance behind her at the peaceful sleeping expression of the man beside her, then relaxed again and fell back asleep.
“The time has come, it’s time to get up.”
Mingzhu groggily turned over, pulling the blanket over her head, wanting to continue sleeping. However, the voice persisted, like a haunting, quite annoyingly. Mingzhu, feeling irritated, angrily slapped her pillow, “Stop it!” The voice indeed ceased, and the surroundings quieted down. Mingzhu then comfortably stretched out and continued to sleep soundly.
Su Lan and Su Mei looked worried, cautiously studying Yuwen Chu’s expression, attempting to explain to him, “The Wangfei is probably just too tired…”
Yuwen Chu calmly extended his hand for the maids to assist him in changing clothes. “It’s nothing. I heard that the Consort always has a hard time waking up when she’s at home. If she doesn’t sleep until late in the morning, she won’t get out of bed.” Glancing at the peacefully sleeping Mingzhu, thinking of what happened last night, his voice carried a hint of amusement, “Or perhaps, she’s still drowsy, forgetting that she’s already married.”
Su Mei’s face turned extremely embarrassed and anxious, looking fearfully at Su Lan. Before the Wangfei got married, the madam had instructed them to always remind the Wangfei and not let her make mistakes. Yet, on the first morning, the Wangfei caused such a scene. If it made the Wangye unhappy or left a bad impression, what should they do?
Su Lan, however, calmed down. Since Wangye knew about the Wangfey’s habits at home, he wouldn’t think the Wangfei was deliberately disrespectful. Besides, the Wangye didn’t seem upset. She bowed respectfully and softly said, “Your Highness is right. The Wangfei has always been like this at home. But when there are important matters, she knows what to prioritize. She probably couldn’t get up today due to being too tired these past few days. Moreover, she’s comfortable and relaxed in the palace. I’ll wake the Wangfei up now.”
Seeing her words were well-spoken but always subtly defending Mingzhu, Yuwen Chu glanced at her more, saying, “No need, if the Wangfei is too tired, let her rest more. It won’t matter if she goes to the palace a bit later.”
When these words were spoken, no one could believe their ears. According to the rules, the new couple must go to the palace to meet the emperor and the Empress Dowagers today, and they should have gone early. How could they sleep in like this? Wouldn’t it break the rules? Even if the Wangye was concerned about his new wife, the state laws and customs couldn’t tolerate it. Could it be that the Wangye wasn’t dissatisfied with the Wangfei and didn’t want to put her in a difficult position? Was this a sarcastic remark?
Su Lan’s mind raced with several thoughts, her face full of smiles as she said, “Your Highness is considerate of the Wangfei. The Wangfei is truly fortunate. However, the Wangfei has instructed us to wake her up. Allow me to do so.” With that, she approached and gently called near Mingzhu’s ear, “Wangfei, please wake up!” Seeing Mingzhu furrow her brows and about to explode, she decisively pinched her arm.
“Ouch!” Mingzhu suddenly sat up, eyes still half-closed, ready to scold, but Su Lan quickly pushed her and reminded her softly, “Wangfei, it’s time to bathe and change clothes to meet the emperor. His Highness has been waiting for you.”
Mingzhu jolted awake, seeing the room bathed in a dim yellow light, the dragon and phoenix candles burning down to the bottom. Yuwen Chu stood by the bed, looking at her with a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes, his expression ambiguous. Several maids stood quietly by, not daring to look away, their expressions deliberately calm.
Blaming Yuwen Chu for tossing and turning all night with his endless antics, Mingzhu cursed him in her heart before blaming herself for being so weak-willed. Suppressing her frustration, she threw on her clothes and gracefully yawned, not even sparing Yuwen Chu a glance as she brushed past him, intentionally bumping into him before heading straight for the side chamber. “Time for a bath and change. That fragrant bath last night was quite nice.”
