Chapter 170: Excitement

Sunlight peeked through the window lattice mischievously, casting golden hues across the entire bed. Mingzhu let out a long sigh and covered her eyes, intending to stretch lazily. However, as soon as she moved, she felt pain all over her body. She groaned, “Su Lan.”
“You’re awake?” A strong hand helped her sit up against the support pillow. Yuwen Chu sat beside the bed, looking at her with bloodshot eyes. His attire was neat and festive, despite his disheveled appearance. He looked as steady as a pine tree.
It was admirable how he could stay by her side like this. He must be afraid that she would die without him being able to explain. Mingzhu looked at Yuwen Chu for a moment and suddenly smiled, “Sorry for disturbing Your Highness’s sleep.”
Yuwen Chu also smiled, “Is there anywhere uncomfortable?”
Mingzhu playfully pressed her left chest and said, “With Your Highness treating me so well, how could there be any discomfort? It’s very comfortable!”
Yuwen Chu’s smile faded slightly, but his tone became firmer, “I think so too.”
Su Lan came over with medicine, saying, “Wangfei, this medicine isn’t bitter.”
Mingzhu wrinkled her nose and gritted her teeth, “I don’t want it. I’m fine. Why should I take medicine?” She only thought it was a remnant of her reincarnation, just a heart problem, and no medicine could cure it.
Su Lan was very embarrassed, hesitating and looking at Yuwen Chu. Yuwen Chu took the medicine bowl and said, “Go and call Tang Chunlai over, tell him the Wangfei is awake.” Then he placed the medicine bowl near Mingzhu’s mouth and said sternly, “Drink it.”
Mingzhu frowned and closed her mouth tightly, shaking her head. She mumbled, “I’m fine, I don’t need medicine.”
“Will you drink it yourself or shall I feed you?” Yuwen Chu pointed to the silver plate full of dried fruits on the table and said casually, “If you drink it yourself, you’ll have dried fruits. If I feed you, you’ll have nothing.”
Mingzhu glared at him, but he didn’t back down. He continued calmly, “I’ll count to three. If you still don’t drink it yourself, I’ll feed you.”
“I’ll resist with all my might. I’ll spill the medicine.” Mingzhu threatened to hide deep in the bed, but he caught her ankle with one hand. Just as she was about to kick him away, Yuwen Chu lowered his head and took a sip of the medicine, leaning closer to her.
So, this was what he meant by feeding her! Was there such a person? She was still sick, yet as soon as she woke up, he wanted to take advantage of her. He was truly shameless! Mingzhu felt a mix of sadness and anger. She shouted, “Stop! I’m still sick! How could you do this?”
Yuwen Chu glanced at her disdainfully, firmly holding her shoulders and lowering his head to kiss her. As they drew closer, the sweet and cool scent of his breath mingled with the bitterness of the medicine, causing Mingzhu to feel slightly frightened. She couldn’t care less about anything else and forcefully held Yuwen Chu’s face, saying, “I’ll drink it myself.”
Ignoring her, Yuwen Chu continued downwards. Mingzhu closed her eyes and said in a hurry, “I was wrong. You were doing it for my own good. I mistook your kindness for something else…” The words “something else” squeezed out of her teeth indignantly.
Before she could finish her sentence, Yuwen Chu had already captured her lips and forcefully opened her teeth, pouring the medicine into her mouth. It was so bitter that Mingzhu’s face instantly twisted into a grimace, and she clenched her tongue to block her throat, refusing to swallow. Yuwen Chu was very patient, teasing her tongue like a fish and maliciously pinching her waist and chest.
“You…!” Mingzhu’s face turned red with anger. Unable to bear it, she wanted to scold him, but the medicine flowed down her throat, making her grimace in bitterness.
Yuwen Chu smiled and calmly wrapped her tongue with his own, sucking on it with relish. Mingzhu was truly afraid of him. Nearly crying, she begged for mercy, “I was wrong, I was wrong. I’ll drink it myself, okay?”
“If you had known you were dealing with a wolf in sheep’s clothing, you shouldn’t have bothered not listening. By acting like this, you’re practically inviting people to misunderstand and think you actually want me to feed you medicine.” Yuwen Chu finally sat up, smiling as he handed over the bowl of medicine.
Mingzhu, with red eyes, tilted her head back fiercely and drank it all down in one gulp, feeling so bitter that she wanted to curse someone’s grandmother, only to find her mouth stuffed with a sweet piece of preserved fruit. The preserved fruit was made extremely delicious and sweet, overwhelming the numb taste buds with its bitterness and gradually turning them sweet again.
Mingzhu was almost unable to resist feeling satisfied, but then she looked at the calm Yuwen Chu beside her and couldn’t help but feel resentful again. “Who asked you to feed me! Even if I wanted to eat meat, I’d have to fatten it up first. How dare you, just because someone’s half-dead, have the audacity to touch them…”
“You’re absolutely right. It’s better to fatten up first before enjoying food, but a sick beauty also has its own flavor. Let Tang Chunlai come in.” Yuwen Chu’s eyes showed a hint of amusement as he whispered to Mingzhu, “Before fattening up, we need to make sure the illness is treated. Otherwise, how can one fatten up if they’re still ill? Even if you wanted to resist, wouldn’t you be too weak?”
Tang Chunlai walked in with his head bowed, apologizing first before feeling Mingzhu’s pulse and carefully examining her lips and tongue. Mingzhu was quite dismissive. She had experienced heart palpitations and pain from nightmares when she first reincarnated, and she had always recovered without medicine. Although she had never experienced pain as severe as this, it wouldn’t be anything serious.
Yuwen Chu’s expression was very serious, “How is she?”
Tang Chunlai bowed and said, “The Wangfei’s symptoms have improved a lot. Two more doses of medicine, and she’ll be fine.”
Mingzhu rolled her eyes secretly; she was already feeling better.
Su Lan gave Tang Chunlai a meaningful look, indicating that their Wangfei was afraid of bitter medicine. Tang Chunlai smiled and said, “The bitterness before was because there was a detoxifying herb that had to be used in large quantities. Now that the Wangfei is awake, the dosage can be reduced, and a few more flavoring herbs can be added to make it less bitter.”
“Detoxifying?” Mingzhu immediately seized upon the keyword, “What does that mean?”
Tang Chunlai looked somewhat surprised but didn’t answer directly. Instead, he looked at Yuwen Chu. Yuwen Chu said, “Prepare the prescription.”
“Yes.” Tang Chunlai retreated, and Su Lan followed suit with the medicine bowl.
Once again, only the couple remained in the room. Mingzhu looked at Yuwen Chu and forced a smile, “What did Tang Chunlai mean?”
Yuwen Chu looked down at her and said softly, “Just what you heard.”
Mingzhu was momentarily stunned before confirming, “I was poisoned?” Seeing no objection from Yuwen Chu, she moved closer to him, excitement evident in her voice, “Someone poisoned me? Who could it be?” To think she was poisoned! It must be because she had changed so many things after her rebirth that someone actually saw her as a threat and tried to harm or kill her. It seemed that she was playing an important role now; at least she was bothering someone!
Yuwen Chu frowned. Why did she seem a little excited? Shouldn’t she be terrified and clinging to him, crying her heart out?
Seeing him not responding, Mingzhu continued to ask, “So what are you going to do? You can’t let that person off lightly!”
