Chapter 333: Always Be Kind to Me

Yuwen Chu was actually quite interested, playing with the cord hanging from Mingzhu’s waist. “Is this pot really so magical and useful? Where did Wangfei learn about it from an ancient manuscript?”
“Yes…” Mingzhu almost blurted out that it was created by Jiang Shanshan but managed to stop herself just in time, mumbling a vague “Mm.” So what if it was created by Jiang Shanshan? She got there first! And she wouldn’t give Jiang Shanshan any chance to harm her family by becoming too powerful!
A glint flashed in Yuwen Chu’s eyes. “Wangfei has read many ancient manuscripts and found many useful things. Were they all from Third Brother-in-law’s collection? It seems I’ll have to visit Third Brother-in-law one day and borrow a few books to read. Could Wangfei recommend some interesting ones?”
Mingzhu had no idea what books her Third Brother collected and was afraid she would reveal too much if she continued. She had to take the lead, acting coyly, “He has so many books, a whole building full of them! There’s everything in there, even some incomplete ones, with only a single piece of paper. Your Highness asking me this way, how could I possibly remember!”
Yuwen Chu wasn’t fooled. “I remember Wangfei has an excellent memory, practically remembering everything…”
“Mhm, Your Highness knows how to enjoy.” Mingzhu sighed playfully, “We came together, and you immediately soaked in the warm pool while I, worried about you being hungry, wanted to cook for you. Yet all you do is ask these irrelevant questions, without even asking if I’m tired or not.”
Once again, she diverted the topic. Yuwen Chu was curious about her actions. He smiled and held Mingzhu’s hand, asking, “Wangfei is right, it is your husband who is wrong. Wangfei must have worked hard. Is your hand sore? Let me see if it’s roughened?”
It sounded so plausible, Mingzhu couldn’t help but smile too, withdrawing her hand from his grasp and chiding, “It’s just making a simple dish of osmanthus honey lotus roots. How could my hand get roughened?” Afraid that he would think she couldn’t cook, she then coquettishly exaggerated the difficulty, “But stuffing the glutinous rice is really hard! I had to stuff it in bit by bit, afraid it wouldn’t be good if it wasn’t stuffed well. I didn’t let them do it; all they did was light a fire and wash the vegetables.”
Yuwen Chu brought her hand to his lips and kissed it lightly, murmuring, “Hmm, I know it’s hard to stuff it in and not easy to make. If it were me, I might not even be able to stuff the rice in.”
Despite knowing that he was trying to cheer her up, Mingzhu couldn’t help but feel happy. She looked down at his straight nose and strong jaw and softly said, “Actually, it’s not that difficult. Your Highness is so smart and capable. If you really try, you’ll definitely do much better than me. I only know how to make this dish and watercress soup. I was afraid you would think I’m dumb, so I intentionally exaggerated the difficulty. This dish…” She felt embarrassed to look at Yuwen Chu, so she lowered her eyes and whispered as the water vapor on the poolside obscured her vision, “It’s the simplest dish to learn, nothing special.”
Before she could finish her sentence, her body was lifted into the air, and with a stumble, she fell into the water. Seeing the waves rushing towards her, she screamed in fear, thinking she was going to drown. But the next moment, Yuwen Chu lifted her high out of the water. He held her waist, facing her, and the warm breath from his mouth blew on her cheeks, making her both embarrassed and shy.
Yuwen Chu looked at her with a smile, his eyes unusually bright. He tenderly kissed her forehead and whispered, “Zhuzhu, although lotus root with osmanthus honey is simple to learn, it’s my favorite dish.” He joyfully lifted her in his arms and spun around in the pool, laughing heartily.
Mingzhu felt dizzy from his spinning and was afraid he might slip and fall. She wanted to ask him to put her down but didn’t want to disturb his happiness, so she quietly hugged his neck, letting him frolic.
Fortunately, Yuwen Chu’s resistance to dizziness wasn’t that strong, and he stopped spinning after a few rounds. However, he still didn’t want to let her go, holding her tightly and softly saying, “I’m really happy.”
Mingzhu whispered, “I’m happy too.” She never expected that such a simple dish of lotus root with osmanthus honey could make him so happy. The joy of receiving a reward after giving was something she hadn’t anticipated. She leaned her head against Yuwen Chu’s chest, hearing his strong heartbeat, and suddenly felt an urge to cry. Holding him tightly, she murmured, “Yuwen Chu, you have to continue being this kind to me forever.”
“Idiot.” Yuwen Chu kissed her on the forehead again and whispered, “If I’m not good to you, who else should I be good to? You are my wife, the mother of my child, we are a family.”
Mingzhu couldn’t help it, tears welled up in her eyes. She felt it must be the mist in the air that made her eyes moist. Otherwise, she wasn’t the type to cry like this. Even though she had often cried in front of Yuwen Chu recently, it was always with ulterior motives, she had malicious intentions. She didn’t want Yuwen Chu to notice her crying, so she tried hard to hold back her tears and said in a muffled voice, “It’s not good to soak too long in warm water, Your Highness should get up.”
It’s unclear whether Yuwen Chu noticed her abnormality, but he obediently let her down and stood up straight, saying, “Alright, I’ll go up first. I’ll call Su Lan and the others to serve you.” He swung his arms again and chuckled, “It’s been a long time since I’ve soaked in the water, it feels really comfortable.”
Mingzhu wiped away her tears and followed him with a smile, “I thought Your Highness was just soaking in warm water, but I didn’t expect you to swim well. Is it fun?”
“Do you want to learn?” Yuwen Chu stopped and looked at her, “If you want to learn, I can teach you.” He became more serious as he spoke, beginning to size up Mingzhu, “As a woman, it’s not as convenient for you to swim as it is for a man, but there’s no harm in learning. It can be life-saving in critical moments.”
Mingzhu quickly shook her head, “No, no, I probably won’t learn anything in just a few days.” She thought he was going to do something to her again just now, but he unexpectedly let her go easily, which made her happy. If she had listened to him and taken off her clothes to swim, who knows what might have happened? She didn’t want that.
“We can stay here for a few more days.” Yuwen Chu smiled mischievously, “Until Wangfei learns.”
How is that possible? Even if you want to, you still have official duties. How could you just let go and stay here with me? Mingzhu frowned, “Your Highness is treating me like an idiot again.”
