Yuwen Bai walked in first, stopped briefly in front of Mingzhu, and then went to the main seat. Mingzhu smelled a familiar scent of dragon’s brain incense and saw a pair of court boots stop in front of her. Just by looking at the shape of the feet, she knew who it was. It turned out to be Yuwen You.
Everyone else was waiting quietly here for the Emperor and the two empress dowagers to arrive, but Yuwen You was tightly following Yuwen Bai. Was he now clinging to Yuwen Bai’s thigh? Just as Mingzhu was thinking about it, she heard Yuwen You chuckle softly and then move forward.
After Yuwen Bai took his seat in the main position, the Great Empress Dowager and Empress Dowager Min also took their seats separately, and everyone bowed three times and nine times, taking their seats. This allowed Mingzhu to sit next to Yuwen Chu without any objections. As soon as she sat down, Yuwen Chu held her hand. Mingzhu stole a glance and saw him sitting upright, solemnly, and earnestly, showing no signs of doing such a thing in private.
Even though she knew he was usually the best at pretending, Mingzhu still couldn’t help but despise him. She whispered, “What a hypocrite.”
Yuwen Chu remained composed, his eyes fixed ahead as he whispered back, “I heard Wangfei was quite domineering again today.”
Mingzhu sighed, “There’s no choice. I have to fight for my child and my man.”
Yuwen Chu’s composure almost cracked by her words. After barely holding back, he forcefully pulled down the corners of his lips. “It’s clearly because you can’t stand being lonely and want to assert yourself.”
He arranged everything properly so that as long as Mingzhu was vigilant, nothing would happen. However, Mingzhu surprised him again. She seized the opportunity, grasped the Great Empress Dowager’s emotions and the current situation accurately, and was very adept at currying favor, smoothing things over, planting evidence, attacking and trampling others. Every action was bold yet steady, coupled with a broad mind, she was impeccable.
Mingzhu sighed, “What can I do if I don’t assert myself? They’ve trampled all over me. Your Highness, you don’t know, I used to be used to walking horizontally, but now I have to walk upright, I’m not used to it.” Suddenly thinking of Donghui, she became very excited again. “Donghui is really skilled. Give her to me!”
“It was originally arranged for you.” Yuwen Chu found that the lively Mingzhu had returned again. It seemed that the sorrow and grief left by the Great Empress Dowager to her a while ago had suddenly disappeared today. The incident with the bird’s nest soup today also didn’t cause the pain he worried about. He asked Mingzhu in a low voice, “What happened?”
Mingzhu imitated his demeanor, looked dignifiedly ahead, and whispered, “Nothing, I’ve figured it out.”
Yuwen Chu couldn’t help but turn his head to look at her. Seeing her eyes slightly moist but her expression firm, he held her hand tighter and whispered comfortingly, “Even if she doesn’t like this child, she wouldn’t use such crude methods. It’s not her. Don’t take it to heart.”
Mingzhu could feel his concern and turned to him with a radiant smile, indicating that she was fine.
The two of them were smiling sweetly at each other when someone above couldn’t stand it anymore. Yuwen Bai spoke up, “Cousin!”
In the vast hall, the only person who could be called that by him was Mingzhu. All eyes fell on Mingzhu, and she stood up to salute, “Your Majesty.”
Yuwen Bai said maliciously, “In the past, Cousin always accompanied the Great Empress Dowager. Although now deeply in love with Sixth Uncle, one should not forget filial piety. Someone! Set up a seat for Ying Wangfei beside the Great Empress Dowager’s seat.” He couldn’t stand seeing Mingzhu and Yuwen Chu being affectionate there. Since they had conflicts with the Great Empress Dowager, he put them together to disgust them both.
Mingzhu thanked him and walked decisively to sit beside the Great Empress Dowager. The Great Empress Dowager also showed timely care, letting someone bring her a cushion and asking if she was tired. Mingzhu still smiled happily, pleasing everyone and completely dispelling any thoughts of making fun of her.
Yuwen Chu sat alone below, calmly watching every move of Mingzhu. He suddenly realized that the little wife he had been teaching all along had really grown up. She learned quickly and did well, already starting to shine brightly. He was both gratified and proud, wishing he could point at Mingzhu and tell everyone that she was his wife, the best, and no one could compare.
Yuwen You sat alone in his seat, his hands clenched into fists on his knees, gritting his teeth. What a shameless adulterer and whore! Who was he showing off to? When that day came, when he ascended to the throne, he would make Yuwen Chu pay back twice the shame he inflicted on him. He would make FuMingzhu know what it was like to be worse off than dead! He wanted to watch her kneel before him, crying and begging for mercy, wanted to beat her fiercely to the ground, and then ask her, do you regret it now? Too late!
Yuwen You felt exhilarated just thinking about it. Yuwen Long, who was also alone, clearly saw everything. He leaned over and whispered, “Did you know that Fu Mingzhu was especially good at pretending?”
Yuwen You glanced disdainfully at Yuwen Long, saying nothing.
Yuwen Long had thick skin and smiled lightly, “I always thought she would be Ninth Sister-in-law, but I didn’t expect her to almost become mine later. D*mn Sixth Brother, so sinister and shameless, forcibly snatching her away from me. What a pity. She dances so well, with such a slender and flexible waist, long legs, ample chest, and a beautiful face. She can do any difficult pose. I wonder what it feels like, so intoxicating. Ninth Brother, did you take advantage of her earlier? It’s really benefited for Sixth Brother…”
A surge of anger erupted from Yuwen You’s chest. Without a second thought, he fiercely punched Yuwen Long in the face. Yuwen Long, who was not used to archery and horsemanship, was shorter and fatter than him. Caught off guard, he was knocked down by Yuwen You’s punch, and all the food and drink spilled onto the prince’s attire. He climbed up in embarrassment, feeling a bloody taste in his mouth. He touched his face, grimacing in pain, “Old Nine! Are you crazy?”
Yuwen You just wanted to vent all his anger on him. Without saying a word, he pressed down and grabbed Yuwen Long’s collar, delivering another punch. Yuwen Long had just climbed up and was knocked down again by the punch, crying out in pain, “Madman! You’re crazy!”
Everyone realized what was happening and quickly rushed to intervene. Yuwen You was pulled away, but he still tried to kick Yuwen Long. Yuwen Long dodged, yelling in a fake crying voice, “Madman! Try hitting me again! See if I’ll fight back! Do you think I’m afraid of you?”
Yuwen You struggled to go back and hit him again. Yuwen Chu stood aside, coldly watching, signaling with his eyes to the young relatives who were pulling them apart. They pretended to be weak and let Yuwen You break free.
