What are you saying? What do you mean I was attracted to your father? Yuwen Chu was both angry and amused. “Did you marry me expecting me to do everything for you?”
Mingzhu was speechless.
She just thought he was suitable and wanted him to do everything for her, to protect the family from harm, so she agreed to marry him. She didn’t like him at all back then, didn’t love him. She was terrified every time he touched her, enduring it every time, just to have a child and secure her position.
She never expected things to turn out like this. Even though she was easygoing and broad-minded, she really fell in love with Yuwen Chu. Every time, she couldn’t help but compare him with Yuwen You, and then she liked him a little more, felt he was better.
She whispered, “Back then, I knew what kind of person you were. I thought about it and couldn’t find anything else worth your persistent pursuit.”
Yuwen Chu held her face, looked into her eyes, and whispered, “Now you know, and you’ll know even more in the future. You may not believe everything I say, but you have eyes and a heart. Please use them to see and understand. We’ve only been together for a short time, and I don’t expect you to know everything, but one day you will.”
Mingzhu softly responded, feeling her restless heart finally settling down since after talking to Mr. Meng. She complained, “You have to avenge me! It’s all Mr. Meng’s fault! He must be jealous of our happiness!”
Yuwen Chu made her laugh and said softly, “That old bastard Mr. Meng is still lying in bed. He’s been sick for several days.”
“Is it because of you?” Mingzhu looked at Yuwen Chu with wide eyes, feeling relieved but also guilty, “He’s doing it for your own good. What if something happens to him and there’s no one to help you?”
“Phew!” Yuwen Chu hurriedly said, “It’s just a slight cold. It’s not like he’s going to die from it. I still have plenty of things for him to do.”
Mingzhu smiled and pursed her lips, “What did you do to him?”
Yuwen Chu said seriously, “Nothing much, just had him ride horses in the snow and discuss the connection and difference between family affairs and political matters.”
As a result, Mr. Meng got frostbite and caught a cold. He also caught a cold from the snow? Mingzhu felt a bit sour inside. “Why bother?”
Yuwen Chu pointed at her, “Who was the one who wanted me to avenge her just now? I’m not trying to retaliate against him, I just don’t want such incidents to happen again. He’s not me, so how would he know what I want? I don’t like others making decisions for me.”
Zheng Momo brought in the medicine, seeing that the two had reconciled, couldn’t help but feel very happy, and handed the medicine bowl to Mingzhu, indicating her to serve Yuwen Chu. Mingzhu took the medicine bowl boldly and handed it to Yuwen Chu, “Your Highness, drink your medicine, and don’t make jokes with your own health anymore.”
Yuwen Chu half-jokingly said, “And you, don’t joke about your own safety anymore.”
Mingzhu impatiently said, “Did something happen to me? I know my limits.”
Yuwen Chu looked at her with a heavy gaze, didn’t say much, and would let her see his actions.
Separated for a while, their reunion felt like a honeymoon. Having just cleared up their misunderstandings and reconciled, they were both a bit excited. Although one had caught a cold and dared not get too close, and the other was pregnant and dared not be too wild, they both wanted to rest early, cuddling and exchanging sweet words.
Both of them silently understood each other and tidied up. With smiles on their faces, they were ready to rest. Just as Yuwen Chu was about to blow out the lamp, he heard Wei Tiande’s soft voice outside the window, sounding like he was about to cry, “Your Highness, Your Highness, Mr. Meng said there is an urgent matter to discuss.”
“This old b*stard! Can’t stand to see me happy, huh! Ignore him,” Yuwen Chu’s face darkened as he replied to the window, “You tell Mr. Meng to focus on recuperating.”
Wei Tiande cried and replied with a trembling voice, “Yes…”
Mingzhu nudged Yuwen Chu, “What if it’s really urgent? Go and check, don’t let important matters be delayed.”
“You’re so sensible,” Yuwen Chu squeezed her hand, saying, “I’ll tell them how you spoke, embarrass those old b*stards.”
“Um… what I meant to say is, in their eyes, I’m already considered a troublemaker. If you keep this up, I’ll be unforgivable. Go see what’s going on. If it’s really urgent, then fine, but if it’s not, it can wait.” Mingzhu honestly explained.
Yuwen Chu nodded vaguely and went off with a smile.
The next day was a rare sunny day. Mingzhu woke up in the morning to find Yuwen Chu sleeping soundly beside her. She gently kissed his eyes and whispered, “Good morning.”
Yuwen Chu opened his eyes and looked at Mingzhu. Sunlight streamed through the translucent tiles and bed curtains, creating a warm atmosphere. The bed became a world of its own, a world with only the two of them, warm, peaceful, and serene. He smiled faintly at her. “Good morning!” Then he stretched out his arm.
“Aren’t you going to the yamen today?” Mingzhu immediately climbed over, resting her head on his arm and wrapping her hand around his waist, whispering, “Don’t anger me anymore. I’m actually quite petty.”
This was what he wanted to say to her, but she stole his words. Well, men should be more magnanimous. He didn’t want to argue with her. “I took a day off specifically to accompany you.” Yuwen Chu stroked Mingzhu’s hair, suddenly feeling an itch in his nose. He sneezed loudly, and then his eyes teared up, and his nose started running.
Since reaching adulthood, he had never had such a serious cold before, and it was even worse than before. Yuwen Chu was stunned for a moment, then quickly covered his nose and got up, moving away from Mingzhu. “My cold has worsened. Don’t come near me. Tang Chunlai said it’s not good for pregnant women to catch a cold. Have someone clean up the room next door. I’ll stay there for the next few days.”
They hadn’t separated rooms before, but now they had to. It was all because of Mr. Meng. No, it was Jiang Shanshan’s fault. Mingzhu pouted unhappily. “I’ll have someone clean up the room for you. I’ll ask Tang Chunlai to come over and check on you.”
Yuwen Chu saw that she was reluctant to be separated from him and felt even better.
The two of them enjoyed their breakfast sweetly, as if one day apart was like three autumns. Zheng Momo and the others found it so sweet it made their teeth ache. The serving maid was happy again because there was no more competition with Zhou Nushi for work.
Yuwen Chu’s cold came on strong this time. He couldn’t stand the cold wind, so he could only stay in bed and recuperate. Mingzhu sat beside him, reading to him. Whenever they reached an interesting part, they would smile at each other, enjoying each other’s company. However, someone outside couldn’t bear it anymore. Since Second Miss Jiang hadn’t returned home, the Changxing Marquis had to come knocking.
