Chapter 453: Seeking Husband (Two)

“Tell me your thoughts.” Yuwen Chu understood what Mingzhu wanted to do. She wanted to unite the power of the royal family to deal with the Longlin Guards who were casually intruding into the prince’s mansion and disrespecting her.
“Without rules, chaos reigns. Even an emperor must abide by rules. The interests of the royal family are consistent. If we suffer today and they stand by laughing and refuse to help, tomorrow it might be their turn. If they don’t want to suffer, they have to help me.” Mingzhu spoke confidently. Qi Wang was the most dignified person among the older generation of the royal family, apart from Zhongshan Wang, and his wife, Qi Wangfei, also had a significant influence. As long as these two people were willing to step forward and unite the royal family to exert pressure on Yuwen Bai, he wouldn’t be able to withstand it.
Yuwen Chu smiled. “You make sense. But what if Qi Wang refuses to offend others?”
Mingzhu cunningly replied, “That’s why I want to know where the promissory note he wrote to you is. If he refuses, he’ll have to repay the money.”
Let her go and try. He couldn’t dampen her enthusiasm. Yuwen Chu leaned close to Mingzhu’s ear and whispered a few words softly. His gentle breath blew into Mingzhu’s ear, causing her to shiver. She really wanted to lean into Yuwen Chu’s arms and say a few words to him, but here, she couldn’t even hug him.
Mingzhu felt a bit regretful. She couldn’t stand seeing him like this, so she said, “Let’s talk properly! Why are you like this?”
Yuwen Chu looked at her with a wicked smile and whispered, “What are you afraid of?”
Mingzhu glanced around and, finding no one nearby, decided to take a bold step. She reached out and touched him, then teasingly flicked him before quickly retracting her hand and standing up straight as if nothing had happened.
Yuwen Chu silently watched her, not saying a word. If it weren’t for his intense gaze and the faint blush on his ears, Mingzhu almost thought he was going to explode with anger after being frivolously touched.
Mingzhu looked around again, confirmed that it was safe, and decided to go for it. She reached out and touched him again. This time, when she touched him, she was startled to see the small Yuwen Chu standing there with a fierce look in his eyes, as if he were about to burst into action. Such a big reaction? She couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
“Why are you so mischievous!” Yuwen Chu was annoyed by her laughter but also stirred by her provocations. He wished he could just pull her over and punish her right there. Unfortunately, this wasn’t their bedroom, and he could only look but not touch. The more he couldn’t have her, the more he wanted her. He was completely at a loss.
“Oh, I forgot. His Highness actually prefers a serious and demure lady. Someone like me, who is petty, domineering, and mischievous, is naturally not to his liking.” Mingzhu sent him a flirtatious glance, enticing him.
“You wait, Fu Mingzhu. When I come out, I’ll teach you a lesson! Weren’t you the one who brewed the kidney-nourishing porridge for me? It’s coming in handy now!” Yuwen Chu threatened Mingzhu aggressively, holding her hand tightly, not wanting to let go.
“I’m so scared, Your Highness, you’re so scary. Spare me!” Mingzhu pretended to be frightened, her eyes almost teary from laughing.
How could she be so happy? It seemed like nothing was bothering her. Even though Yuwen Chu knew that Mingzhu was doing all this to reassure him, he still felt happy and relaxed. He had really hit the jackpot. Although it had only been a day and a night apart, Yuwen Chu felt like he was going crazy missing Mingzhu. He caressed her hand, wanting to be affectionate with her for a little while longer, but then he felt bandages.
Before he could figure out what was going on, Mingzhu quickly withdrew her hand. “Alright, it’s getting late. I should go now.”
Yuwen Chu knew something was amiss but didn’t show it. He quietly pulled his hand back, pretending not to know her secret. “Be careful.”
“You should be careful, Your Highness. Make sure to take your medicine and don’t leave any roots of illness behind. I don’t want a sickly husband.”
As she spoke, Donghui and Su Lan had already finished packing up with Wei Tiande and walked out. Mingzhu looked deeply into Yuwen Chu’s eyes, then turned around and strode out.
Su Lan whispered to Mingzhu, describing the furnishings in the room, “There’s nothing much. The window paper is torn and drafty, and there are only two thin quilts on the bed. There’s no hot water or even a fire dragon. I asked Wei Tiande, and he said there’s no problem with the food, but His Highness’s condition seems to be worsening, with signs of fever.”
Donghui quickly said, “Wangfei doesn’t need to worry too much. His Highness is a blessed person, and minor setbacks won’t trouble him.”
“I know.” Mingzhu’s mood was actually somewhat heavy. As soon as she saw Yuwen Chu, she knew his health wasn’t great. His lips were cracked, his complexion wasn’t good, and his hands were icy. He had been wanting to cough but had been holding it back desperately to avoid worrying her. Several times she had seen him nearly unable to bear it, but she pretended to be carefree and teased him to keep him happy, acting as if she hadn’t noticed.
He was willing to do this, thinking it was good for her, so she accepted it. Just like how she didn’t want him to know that she had injured her wrist to kill Yang Yizun, it was all to give each other a little more peace of mind.
The road from Zhaichuntai to the east palace gate was a bit far. Donghui was afraid that Mingzhu would overexert herself today and something would happen, so she advised, “Do you want to take a break before continuing?”
Mingzhu shook her head. “No, I’m fine.” The advantage of being as strong as a bull was here. Those peasant women could still do farm work, carry water, wash clothes, and cook for the whole family even when pregnant. They didn’t seem to have any problems, but the noblewomen in the capital were full of taboos. If she could move, it was a good thing. It would be effortless to give birth, and it would also be good for the child.
At the corner of the road ahead, a figure quickly flashed by. Donghui, with keen eyes, immediately noticed and whispered, “Your Highness, it seems like someone is spying there.”
She had been in the palace for some time, and by now, every palace should have heard the news. Empress Dowager Min and her son might have some thoughts, and they might be stopped further ahead. Although they wouldn’t do anything to her, it would be quite annoying to deal with. Mingzhu made a quick decision. “Let’s go out from the north.”
The three quickly turned around and headed north. The north was the closest to Zhaichuntai, but usually, people didn’t walk here. Only the dead palace servants and night incense garbage would be taken out from here. Mingzhu rushed all the way to the north gate, revealing her identity to the old eunuch guarding the gate. Su Lan promptly handed over a silver ingot and hastily found an excuse to urge the old eunuch to open the gate quickly.
