Yuwen Chu solemnly said, “I’ve entrusted her to Momo. Please take good care of her.”
Zheng Momo replied, “Don’t worry, the doctor and Madam from the Fu Residence will be here soon.”
Although Yuwen Chu left the room, he didn’t go to Tingxue Building. Instead, he quietly went to the small study set up in the side room, asking Wei Tiande to bring in the documents that needed his attention. He instructed Zhou Shuyi and Mr. Meng to inform him if there were any issues.
Zheng Momo’s method was right. After he left, Mingzhu indeed stopped crying and fussing. At most, she complained a few times intermittently. Then, even the complaints stopped. He heard someone outside saying, “Your Highness, walk carefully and slowly, don’t rush, conserve your energy. Move around more, it will help with the delivery later.”
What does this mean? Is it time? Yuwen Chu stood up, walked to the window, and peeked outside through the window screen. He saw Mingzhu being supported by two maids, slowly walking in the yard. Her expression was very serious, but at least the look of despair was gone. After walking two laps, as if knowing he was looking, she suddenly turned and glanced in his direction. Yuwen Chu instinctively stepped back, fearing she would notice him. Otherwise, she would immediately put on a pitiful face and start acting coquettishly again.
He didn’t know if Mingzhu had actually noticed him. She slowly turned her head away and continued walking. It wasn’t until the midwife said it was time to rest that she slowly walked back.
Yuwen Chu sat down, calmed his mind, and quickly dealt with the urgent official documents. Wei Tiande came in from time to time to report, “The Wangfei ate a lot of food and is in high spirits. The midwife says everything is going well, and the baby’s position is very good.”
“The Wangfei is walking again.”
“The Wangfei has fallen asleep.”
“Because the midwife said she needs to eat more to have energy, so the Wangfei is enduring…”
Is she overdoing it? Yuwen Chu pinched his brow, deciding to go see her again before she entered the delivery room.
Mingzhu had eaten too much and felt uncomfortable, so she could only walk around the room with the help of the maids to aid digestion. But she didn’t want to move anymore; she just wanted to lie down. She kept complaining, “You’re taking advantage of His Highness’s absence and my Mother’s absence to torture me like this…”
Her complaints were coquettish and weak, more like coquettishness than complaints. The maids couldn’t help but laugh, saying they had never seen someone so delicate. When Yuwen Chu entered, they all greeted him and smiled, “Your Highness came at the right time. It’s time to enter the delivery room.”
Mingzhu saw him and immediately turned red, pursing her lips. Yuwen Chu gestured for the maids to leave and held her hand in his, gently kissing it. He whispered, “If I could, I would rather bear the pain for you, but I can’t help you. I can only watch you suffer. I won’t go anywhere. I’ll wait outside with you. I’ll be there for everything, so don’t be afraid.”
Mingzhu lowered her head and didn’t speak for a long time before whispering softly, “Then promise me, stay outside all the time, don’t go anywhere. If I call you, you must answer.”
“Okay.” Yuwen Chu hugged her and whispered, “I know you can do it. Don’t let the child think his Mother is a crybaby. Save your energy and use it when it’s crucial, don’t waste it, okay?”
Mingzhu nodded, grabbed his sleeve, and whispered, “Giving birth is very painful. You’ll have to love me twice as much in the future, and don’t always make me angry.”
Finally back to normal, she seized every opportunity for benefits. Yuwen Chu promised with a smile, “Should I accompany you into the delivery room?”
Mingzhu allowed him to lead her quietly into the delivery room. When the door was about to close, she looked back at him, tears mixed with a smile, “Your Highness, you must stay outside and watch over me.”
“Okay.” Yuwen Chu replied with a cheerful and calm smile. But as soon as the door closed, the smile faded from his face, replaced by a trace of worry between his brows.
Wei Tiande came over happily to report that Madam Cui, Lady Qian, and Lady Su had arrived. Yuwen Chu breathed a sigh of relief. With Madam Cui and Lady Qian in the delivery room, he could finally relax a bit.
This birth was very important for him, Mingzhu, and the overall situation. Not only would it strengthen the ties between Ying Wang Mansion and the Fu family, but it would also reassure those who followed him. They valued it, and so did their opponents. Therefore, they must be vigilant. Mingzhu mustn’t have any accidents, nor should the child.
All they could do now was wait.
Yuwen Chu hastily had a bit of dinner and continued to bury himself in paperwork. He couldn’t sleep, his mind was restless, and he wasn’t in the mood to discuss matters with Mr. Meng and the others. Not long after, he heard intermittent moans and cries coming from the delivery room. The voices were not loud, but it was evident that Mingzhu was in great pain. She was obedient, not screaming and wasting energy.
Yuwen Chu got up and walked out, standing outside the delivery room, watching.
Fu Mingzheng hurriedly walked in from outside and stood next to him, whispering, “Your Highness, don’t worry too much. This girl has a stubborn streak. Once she realizes she can’t rely on others, she becomes very independent.”
Yuwen Chu was in a bad mood and didn’t want to talk much. He simply said, “I know.”
He finally wanted to comfort him, and he didn’t appreciate it! Let him be sad then! Fu Mingzheng glanced at him and couldn’t be bothered to talk to him anymore.
The two men stood outside, ignoring each other, just listening intently to the sounds coming from inside the room. When they saw the blood from the delivery room, they both pretended to be calm, indicating that such normal occurrences didn’t scare them.
Mingzhu felt like her whole body was being torn apart. She used all her strength, wanting to hold onto Madam Cui’s hand tightly, but then remembered that her Mother was old and probably couldn’t withstand her strength, so she let go and tightly grasped the bedding instead.
The midwife encouraged her, “Your Highness’s condition is very good. The cervix is fully dilated, just give a little more effort and the baby will come out. Don’t exert too much force, be careful not to tear the birth canal.”
Mingzhu screamed and exerted herself, feeling a rush of warmth mixed with something “whooshing” out from her lower body. Then her whole body relaxed considerably. The midwife smiled and loudly exclaimed, “The head is out! Keep pushing, Your Highness, push hard, inhale, exhale…”
Mingzhu gritted her teeth and pushed with all her might, following the midwife’s instructions.
“Wah…” the sound of a baby crying echoed in the delivery room.
The midwife lifted the baby and exclaimed joyfully, “It’s a beautiful boy, everything is fine. Congratulations, Your Highness, congratulations, Madam…”
“Quick, bring him to me.” Tears welled up in Mingzhu’s eyes all of a sudden; she couldn’t believe it was over just like that.
