Chapter 586: Roadblocking Dog

“Keep up,” Mingzhu didn’t even bother with Mei Yusi’s expression, quietly instructing Su Mei, “Ask them their names.”

Su Mei complied, helping Mingzhu onto the carriage and writing their names down for her to see. The maid’s surname was Su, and the two servants, the taller one was Xia Xue, and the shorter one was Xia Lu. They were all longstanding members of Ying Wang’s mansion. In other words, they were trustworthy.

Mingzhu rested her eyes against the cushion, the blow of Su Jin’s sudden death no longer as intense as before. The environment was too harsh for her to indulge in sorrow. She needed to live well, to become stronger to protect those around her from harm.

Someone knocked on the carriage door, and Su Mei exchanged a few words with them before dipping a brush in tea and writing on the table for Mingzhu to see: “Everything in the palace has been arranged.”

The palace was currently a melting pot of various factions, with Yuwen Chu having some influence there, albeit semi-openly. Whether it was Mingzhu or Yuwen Chu going to the palace, it needed to be arranged beforehand to ensure there was an escape route in case of danger.

Halfway through the journey, the sound of hooves echoed, as if many horses were surrounding them. Su Mei felt alarmed and discreetly lifted the curtain to look. She saw many Longlin Guards catching up, with the leader being Linan Wang, Yuwen You. She quickly wrote for Mingzhu to see, and Mingzhu calmly said, “What are you afraid of? We have plenty of people.”

With Jing Song leading many guards, she didn’t dare to walk the streets in broad daylight, let alone in the future. She wanted to see what Yuwen You intended to do.

As the curtain was lifted outside, there was a clinking sound as weapons clashed.

Su Mei broke into a cold sweat, silently relieved that Mingzhu couldn’t hear. She peeked out and saw Yuwen You slowly placing his long sword in front of his saddle, glancing sideways at Jing Song. “Yang Dianjun, dare you confront me with weapons drawn?”

Jing Song calmly replied, “Linan Wang, the person inside the carriage is Ying Wangfei, your sister-in-law. You, drawing your sword to peek into the carriage, is also a breach of etiquette.”

“Heh…” Yuwen You chuckled lightly. “I suspect the person in the carriage is a suspect!” With that, he unsheathed his sword and swiftly slashed towards the carriage curtain.

Jing Song raised his long spear to block his sword, and sparks flew as they clashed. Both stared at each other fiercely, neither yielding.

Mingzhu sensed something amiss and gestured for Su Mei to open the curtain. Seeing the scene, she sneered, “It’s been a while since I’ve seen Ninth Prince. I thought you’d become a bit smarter, but it seems you’ve only become more foolish. Why did you block my carriage in the street?”

Yuwen You was close to her, so close that he could clearly see the scratches on her face. Naturally, he didn’t overlook the contempt in her eyes. Why was he here? Of course, he came to make trouble for her. It had been a long time since they had seen each other. He knew she had successfully given birth, knew her mother had been attacked and remained unconscious since childbirth, knew she had narrowly escaped at the mansion of the official of the Dali Temple, knew she had lost her maid, who had grown up with her and was now deaf from the explosion. He had expected to see her in a miserable state, but unexpectedly, she was still arrogant and proud. Was it because she knew those tricks, so she was fearless?

Almost simultaneously, the hatred towards Mingzhu surged crazily in Yuwen You’s heart again. He sneered, “Deaf girl, just you wait. Soon, you’ll only dare to hide in your room. Yuwen Chu won’t keep a deaf person by his side. When he’s done using you, he’ll drive you away or even kill you.”

He knew Mingzhu couldn’t hear, but just saying these words made him feel excited and satisfied, thinking about how she would be despised and abandoned by Yuwen Chu. No one knew how much he wanted the Wusun Princess to quickly give birth to a chubby son for him, to prove that there were many women in this world who could bear sons, not just Fu Mingzhu. However, the Wusun Princess had never been able to conceive, no matter how hard he worked or how much he sought medical help.

Jing Song was furious, “Linan Wang, please watch your words!”

Mingzhu completely ignored what Yuwen You was saying. After all, a dog’s mouth couldn’t utter ivory. She just casually ordered Jing Song, “Yang Dianjun, if a dog bites you, would you bite it back? Let’s go. Whoever dares to stop me is causing trouble for the Royal Palace. They’re conspiring with those assassins who repeatedly try to rebel. You just kill them all. The Great Empress Dowager, she won’t blame you.” Then she casually asked Yuwen You, “Are you trying to fight to the death with Ying Wang Mansion right here on the street?”

Yuwen You had come to pick a fight, but he didn’t dare to confront them directly. He put away his long sword with a faint smile, nodded slightly at Mingzhu, and gave Jing Song a malicious glance before loudly declaring, “Let’s go!”

The Longlin Guards followed him and left in a hurry. Su Mei spat and cursed, “He’s truly a venomous creature, a mad dog.”

Mingzhu signaled for the curtains to be drawn, “Let’s go.”

The carriage drove all the way to outside the palace gates, where they couldn’t use the carriage anymore. Su Mei had to help Mingzhu down, feeling pity in her heart. She couldn’t help but feel some resentment. Where was the caring aunt who would “pity” her like this? Wasn’t this just finding all sorts of ways to harass her?

Just then, Mei Yusi, who had been silent, stepped forward and smiled, “The Great Empress Dowager has ordered a soft sedan to be granted for Ying Wangfei, who is unwell, to enter the palace.”

A soft sedan? Mingzhu had ridden in them many times before, but now it was being specially granted. Mingzhu glanced at Mei Yusi and asked, “Steward Mei, what do you think about Linan Wang intercepting my carriage with soldiers and drawing his sword against me?”

Mei Yusi remained expressionless. “Wasn’t that a misunderstanding?” Knowing Mingzhu couldn’t hear, he then turned to Su Mei with a polite tone. “Please tell Wangfei that it was a misunderstanding. No one would dare to act like that towards her in the palace.”

Mingzhu smiled. “I suppose so.” Unless the Great Empress Dowager wanted everyone to perish together.

Jing Song couldn’t proceed further and looked at Su Momo, Xia Xue, and Xia Lu. After receiving assurance from them, he stepped back and earnestly said to Mingzhu, “There’s something I forgot to tell Wangfei. His Highness also mentioned earlier about going to the palace to report to the Great Empress Dowager on state affairs. Later, Wangfei can return to the mansion with His Highness.”

Mingzhu couldn’t hear, so the message was for Mei Yusi. He smiled slightly, indicating that he had heard it.
