Rebirth in the Apocalypse: The Peach Blossom Debt Chapter 23

Ability Upgrade

Outside the wild wind and rain, the sky had been dark the whole time. Inside the house the two of them lit a kerosene lamp, living in calm and leisure, not like being in the apocalypse at all.

Qi Yue was still making all kinds of food in different styles, Han Fei was responsible for eating, and racking his brains thinking of the names of foods he liked, convenient for ordering at any time.

The two also chatted idly on and off.

Qi Yue basically never had any friends before, rarely communicated with people, otherwise he wouldn’t have lived so down and out, dying so suffocated. Other than the stranger Lin Yuze, basically no one ever helped him.

Even though he had teamed up with many people, because he looked rather good, he always felt those people’s gazes on him were ill-intentioned. Other than going out to do missions and search for supplies, he didn’t contact others at other times.

Ever since the two of them rolled together the other day, and then slept hugging for two consecutive nights, Qi Yue felt inexplicably much closer to Han Fei, and talked more. He could clearly feel Han Fei had become very gentle toward him, faintly carrying indulgence, always staring at him for long periods, staring until his face reddened and heart raced.

Qi Yue tried to look for topics, breaking the quiet. His mouth asking while his hands didn’t stop, he was now already at the stage of charging the level, probably by evening he could level up to level one. Kitchen ability level one, what would it be like? Would cooking become more delicious? Probably not? His current cooking level was already top-level, if not for the apocalypse, relying on this skill he would’ve already made a fortune.

While fiddling with the vegetables in his hands, Qi Yue probed Han Fei for all kinds of information. No choice, the underworld was so mysterious. As a magazine manuscript editor, he always habitually brought a gossip mindset, probing into various topics he was interested in.

“You’re not worried about those subordinates of yours?”

“What’s there to worry about?”

“Worried they’ll run into danger.”

“If they run into it then deal with it.” Thought for a moment and added, “If they can’t avoid it, that means they don’t have the ability to survive in the apocalypse. Then there’s no need for them to stay by my side.”

Look at him, truly worthy of being a boss. He reflected on himself, getting cannon-foddered so many times. If it were Han Fei who rebirthed this many times, he would’ve dominated the whole world by now, at least conquered all of Huaxia.

“You’re the president?”

“My cousin is.”

“What’s your cousin called?”

“Yan Bin.”

Eh? Qi Yue stopped his hands, stood there carefully recalling. This name? Very familiar, where had he heard it before? Just like Han Fei’s name, he definitely had heard it before.

Plop — the carrot in his hand dropped to the ground.

The carrot rolled to Han Fei’s feet, it was for the curry rice he ordered. Not understanding why, he lifted his head and looked at Qi Yue. He saw Qi Yue staring at him without blinking, with a complicated expression.

Not knowing the reason, Han Fei walked over and hugged Qi Yue, pressing him into his arms.

No idea what happened to Qi Yue all of a sudden, clearly he had been very happy before, but now, he was suddenly covered in a sad aura. Though he didn’t know the reason, Qi Yue’s sadness made his heart very uncomfortable as well.

Han Fei was 190, tall and slender, not fat but very strong. Through the thin clothes one could feel the muscle underneath, his whole body carrying a faint explosive power.

He lowered his head, leaned toward Qi Yue’s lips, pressed close and kissed. The kiss was light, carrying comfort.

Qi Yue remembered why Han Fei’s name felt familiar. Among the four big bases famously known in the apocalypse, the earliest leader of M Base was also called Han Fei. Could it be him? The one who died together with a level-five zombie in the Lianyun Dock explosion, could that be the person in front of him? Isn’t he going to L Base? L Base’s leader wasn’t him, right?

A nameless sadness came up, although he didn’t dare confirm it, inside he felt the possibility was very big.

He shook his head, always letting others disturb his emotions. When Tang Ke was there it was like this, now Han Fei too, what was wrong with him. Why did he feel something special toward those two? Could it be because the labor union kissed him a few times so he couldn’t harden his heart? He immediately refuted himself, impossible, they made him comfortable, he was the one who played with them.

As long as it didn’t damage his own interests, he didn’t mind helping others. Seeing Han Fei treat him pretty well, when the time came, he’d remind him not to go to the dock. Anyway that was still a year later, still early.

He pushed Han Fei away, “What are you doing so close to laozi! So d*mn hot.”

Picking up the carrot on the ground, he washed it, and continued cooking. He had reached a high stage, his ability should upgrade by evening.

Rarely being so considerate to someone, Han Fei frowned. Wasn’t him doing that considered face flipping and falling out? Using him then exploding? Does he need to treat him so he’d be obedient.

He dragged Qi Yue over, pressed him onto the table behind and gnawed him crazily, only stopping when Qi Yue struggled with all his strength. Satisfied, he smacked his lips, and leaned back **against there.

“I, laozi, am not homosexual.” Qi Yue had wanted to protest long ago. Although he did feel quite comfortable, he was straight, he had liked women before. Although he didn’t plan to like women anymore now, that didn’t mean he liked men.

“Do you think I am?” Han Fei raised a brow. He was not picky about men or women, but he wasn’t bent.

“Then why do you keep kissing me?”

“You don’t like it?”

Qi Yue snorted. He didn’t dare deny it, what if Han Fei got mad, he couldn’t beat him. “You like me?”

“Mn, I feel a lot toward you.” Han Fei said with deeper meaning. The pretty little boy, cute and interesting, felt great to kiss, he did quite like him.

Seeing Han Fei so straightforward, Qi Yue choked. He was a communication idiot, only knew how to write drafts, not good at mouth-work.

After holding it in for a long time, he said, “We’re helping each other relieve a man’s normal*, don’t think nonsense.”

“Mn, I won’t think nonsense.”

Seeing Han Fei’s half-smile-not-smile, he felt stifled. He turned his head away and ignored him.

Because of his first-life experiences, Qi Yue hated males who showed ambiguous feelings toward him for many years in his later rebirths. Later, after constantly rebirthing, year after year, he became numb, confused, not knowing what he was living for, very lonely, longing to be loved. After meeting his birth mother, he was also lonely, longing for kinship, but it still ended up being his own extravagant hope.

Anyways, he didn’t plan to easily give his feelings. With Han Fei it was mutual comfort between men, he made him feel very good, this was also fine.

Time passed little by little, when Qi Yue finished stir-frying the dishes Han Fei ordered, he finally upgraded.

Han Fei looked at Qi Yue, he still couldn’t feel the other’s spiritual abilities. He was also very curious what the chef ability would be like after reaching level one.

“Meditate with your spiritual abilities.”

After reaching level one, his whole body was hot, he felt a stream flowing inside his body. His eyes could see clearer and farther than before, ears more sensitive, movements more agile.

He calmed down and meditated. An ancient-style room, this… this was inside his kitchen space? He entered his space! Then from now on when encountering danger he could hide inside to escape!

It was an ancient-style room, divided into inner and outer rooms, no door in the middle. He was now in the outer room, about 50 square meters, the seasonings and kitchen tools he collected were sorted and piled here, and the food he made was also on the floor.

He walked into the inside room, slightly smaller than the outside one. Was this the kitchen? There was only a platform, and on it a steamer.

Qi Yue was full of black lines. What was this? For steaming mantou? Could it be that buns and mantou steamed in that would taste especially delicious? The ingredients were outside, it looked like he had to find a chance to use the steamer.

He walked around the two rooms several times, inside and out, there was nothing else, nothing special, no door, completely sealed. Picking up the steamer, he thought for a moment then put it down, and flashed out of the space.

Han Fei saw Qi Yue disappear in front of him, stunned for a moment, then thought of how Qi Yue had a space like him. He probably entered it, and waited patiently for him to come out.

After quite a while, Qi Yue appeared at the spot he vanished earlier.

“I can enter the space now.”

“Mn.”

He didn’t mention the steamer. Though he had grown much closer to Han Fei now, people’s hearts were unpredictable, better to keep something to himself. Han Fei saw Qi Yue didn’t continue talking, understood, and didn’t ask.

“Let’s eat,”

The two ate silently, Qi Yue had things on his mind, seeming a bit absent-minded.

At night when sleeping, Qi Yue insisted on being like the previous night, holding Han Fei himself. Seeing Han Fei resting against his chest gave him a sense of accomplishment. Although the other didn’t look like a small-bird-relying-on-a-man and was a bit heavy pressing on him.

The two lay together, kissing, touching, but didn’t go to the next step.

Han Fei held himself back. This wasn’t a good place, the rain could stop at any time, and once it stopped they might encounter danger. Better to keep some strength; there would be plenty of chances. Since Qi Yue had provoked him, he shouldn’t think he could leave unscathed.

The night was peaceful. They didn’t know how long they slept, but were woken by the special low growls of zombies. Dawn came, the rain stopped. They got up and looked outside, sure enough, zombies were already wandering outside the warehouse. After the second mutation, it was even harder for humans to survive.

The two discussed in low voices about leaving, needing to leave early. The earlier the less dangerous.

“Later, when the door opens, first take care of the ones at the door.” Han Fei said while taking out a magazine and handing it to Qi Yue.

“For you.” Qi Yue took out a few packs of food, all kinds, easy to take out and eat.

“Keep them well, eat anytime.”

Han Fei took them, put them into his space.

“Get ready, I’m opening the door.”

Han Fei walked ahead, Qi Yue closely behind. When the door opened, the zombies outside heard the sound and gathered, ones farther away also crowding this way. The entire food factory’s zombies were probably all wandering outside; when they had first arrived days ago there weren’t this many, the zombies hiding in dark places had all come out now.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Every shot of Qi Yue’s hit, though not every shot was a headshot, but none missed.

Han Fei also shot out several ability attacks in a row.

After dealing with the zombies near the door, Han Fei took out the car, the two quickly got in. Ramming several zombies rushing forward, they turned the car, and drove out the food factory gates.
