Rebirth in the Apocalypse: The Peach Blossom Debt Chapter 37

Several eighth-level zombies united to attack the M Refuge Base. Outside was a chaotic mess. Inside her room, Liu Yue paced anxiously, not knowing how Yan Bin was doing. Suddenly, a pounding knock hit her door, startling her. She cleared her throat, steadied her emotions, and called for the person to come in.

It was a few of Yan Bin’s trusted subordinates. Qiao Er, dressed in a black tactical suit, spoke first: “Sister-in-law, Brother Fei ordered us to escort you to Base B first. The plane is ready.”

Liu Yue nodded and followed behind Qiao Er toward the exit. The zombies had already breached the base. Chaos was everywhere, ability users and soldiers were fighting zombies, civilians were panicking. This was the ninth year of the apocalypse, and M Base had never encountered something like this before. What had changed?

As they hurried, Liu Yue happened to lift her head and look into the distance. A cold, sharply contoured face like carved marble stood out. In the crowd, the proud, imposing figure was eye-catching, Yan Bin was confronting an eighth-level zombie.

After so many lifetimes… yes, she had finally married him. Yan Bin, the man she had longed for, begged for, through countless lifetimes. Even if he married her for benefits, for the military power in her stepfather’s hands… it didn’t matter. He still married her, didn’t he?

But Liu Yue was unwilling. She had chased him for so many lifetimes. She had once been his subordinate, once his attending physician; in another life, she even married one of his men just to get close to him. In this life… she finally married him. Yet after so many years, why didn’t he love her? Why couldn’t he love her the way he once treated Qi Yue, with such deep affection?

She hated it. She hated Yan Bin’s heartlessness, every lifetime, always the same cold indifference toward her. But the one she hated even more was Qi Yue. Why him? No ability, no power, always defeated, what right did he have to possess the love of such a cold man? She would never let Qi Yue have a good ending. How dare he steal her man? Humph! In every lifetime, didn’t she erase him whenever she pleased?

Thinking back to when she and Yan Bin arrived at the base days ago, Liu Yue felt smug. Walking beside Yan Bin, seeing Qi Yue’s pitiful figure among the crowd… she almost laughed out loud. The fact that Qi Yue didn’t even get the chance to meet Yan Bin or Han Fei before being taken care of by her and the fool didn’t even know? That delighted her even more.

In her early reborn lifetimes, she waited patiently, hoping he’d fall in love with her. Later, it turned into obsession. Since he loved Qi Yue so much, she would find Qi Yue first and kill him.

The more heartless Yan Bin was toward her, the more invisible she felt, the more she retaliated. In each new life, she either made Qi Yue disappear early or tormented him, made him despair, made him give up hope, made him live numb and broken. As for Han Fei, for all his good looks, he had no brain. She got rid of him easily as well.

Chaos intensified, hordes of zombies poured into the base. What was happening? Liu Yue frowned. In the crowd, she suddenly spotted a familiar figure. Qi Yue was releasing his ability to protect Xue Wanyi and her family behind him. Qi Yue… was he pure-hearted or just stupid? So many lifetimes, yet he never changed, still yearning for the love and family he could never have.

Family? She sneered. She truly wanted to see his expression when he found out even “true feelings” were fake. She could hardly wait.

Thinking again of Yan Bin likely being nearby, Liu Yue turned to look toward him. He wasn’t looking this way, so she relaxed. Internally she cursed Xue Wanyi, that idiot! Did she not instruct her to keep a close eye on Qi Yue and stop letting him run around recently? She had wasted so many resources raising that family, and they were still useless. She even found Xue Wanyi a good son-in-law, wasted!

Seeing Qi Yue still looking almost the same even after so many years into the apocalypse annoyed her further.

Zombies swarmed Xue Wanyi’s family’s car. Qi Yue, likely drained of his ability, swung a knife to cover them as each person climbed into the car. Just as he was about to get in, a hand shot out from inside the vehicle and pushed him out while he was still fighting. The door slammed shut. Qi Yue stumbled straight into the horde, instantly drawing every zombie’s attention. Zombies were extremely sensitive to ability users, the crystal cores in their brains helped zombies evolve. Within seconds, the horde engulfed him. The people inside the car, seeing this, rammed through several zombies and drove out of the base.

Liu Yue let out a laugh. But when she turned toward Yan Bin, her smile froze.

Why… why was Yan Bin staring straight in Qi Yue’s direction stunned?

As Liu Yue walked, she thought furiously. Yan Bin couldn’t possibly have memories from past lives, or he would have gone to find Qi Yue. Even when she staged Han Fei’s death, Yan Bin never knew. He certainly didn’t know about her. So why did he look at Qi Yue just now?

Questions swirled in her mind as they reached the helicopter. Distracted by her thoughts, she didn’t notice anything unusual about the aircraft. She pulled the door open, only for a zombie hiding inside to pounce and bite into her neck before she could react.

I’m going to die… Will I be reborn again?

Her body grew colder. Blood poured out. No pain, just cold.

Just like that one lifetime when that military man ordered someone to cut her open with a scalpel, letting her bleed out.

Sure enough, when she awoke, she was back in a hospital. She had been reborn again.

A current of spiritual energy moved through her body. Meditation, she wanted to laugh out loud. Liu Yue lifted her chin, her lips curling. Heaven itself favored her! She actually regained the same space ability from her very first life, a farming-type pocket dimension! There was even a hot spring inside!

Space-ability users were extremely rare, almost nonexistent. In many lifetimes she never even heard of one appearing. Normal crystal cores couldn’t be absorbed by the same type of ability user but space abilities could absorb each other, even devouring everything stored inside the other person’s space.

She had never awakened an ability on her own in any life but she was different. Heaven let her be reborn countless times, it must be because she was meant to “save” humanity. Others couldn’t, she could. No ability? Ha. She’d just absorb someone else’s, someone strong.

She got up and looked into the mirror. This body was beautiful and young, each rebirth making her even more beautiful. Curved brows, emotional eyes, a hint of sorrow between her brows that stirred pity. Rosy lips, delicate fragility. Completely different from her original first-life appearance, she couldn’t even remember what she originally looked like.

She was very satisfied with this body: an impressive family background, a stepfather who was the commander of a military district in City B, and who rose to power after the apocalypse. She had come to Yangcheng on vacation and fallen sick with a fever, perfect. She would wait here for the one who brought her an ability in every lifetime.

She changed clothes, left the hospital, and drove to sweep the supermarkets: food, rice, flour, oil, vegetables, fruit, meat, clothes, medicine, gasoline, she modified her car, contacted the black market, bought weapons and drugs, and most importantly, seeds and fruit saplings.

Finally, she rented a farmhouse in the suburbs near a country road, claiming she was an art student here to sketch.

People already knew the apocalypse was coming. Panic spread across the world. But Liu Yue lived comfortably, tending to vegetables and fruit trees in her three-acre space: one acre for vegetables, one for fruit trees, one for supplies, with plenty of room left for future storage.

Time passed. About twenty days after the apocalypse began, they should be arriving soon.

She waited in the farmhouse, no longer entering her space. Outside, zombies wandered, their low growls drifting in.

One evening, Liu Yue listened to music as she watched the small road outside. She smiled, the people she was waiting for had finally arrived.

Several vehicles of various sizes appeared on the roadside. The first was a modified jeep; the others followed behind, heading toward the house she lived in.

The people in the cars were a mixed group: men, women, children, students, workers, security guards, small business owners.

Liao Feifan held the trembling Cao Xiner in his arms; she was burning with fever and shaking, just like Tang Ke had been early on.

Du Mengyao glanced through the rear-view mirror at the people behind, holding back her sadness. “Senior, it’s getting dark. What should we do tonight?”

Liao Feifan looked around at their surroundings, then pointed ahead. “There. We’ll stay in that house tonight.”

And the house he pointed at was exactly Liu Yue’s.
