Rebirth in the Apocalypse: The Peach Blossom Debt Chapter 45

The car kept moving forward along the highway, and in the pitch-black night all that could be heard was the sound of the car driving.

Qi Yue was driving without turning on the headlights. He knew the road very well, and there weren’t any cars coming from the opposite direction at all. The highway was basically a one-way lane, so there was no need to worry about getting into a car accident.

They were already far from that abandoned dog factory from earlier. Qi Yue held a cigarette in one hand and the steering wheel with the other. Unlike the other two people in the car, he was feeling a bit restless and uneasy. He put the cigarette between his lips and took a fierce drag, blowing out a smoke ring.

Borrowing the faint light coming from behind, he glanced in the rearview mirror and said, “That car behind us is still following.”

Han Fei replied with a calm expression, “Ignore them.” If they obediently followed behind their car, he wouldn’t mind. But if they caused trouble, he wouldn’t tolerate it, he was never a good person to begin with.

Qi Yue stuck out his tongue to lick his dry lips. Fine, he was worrying about nothing. Those two weren’t worried, so what was he worrying for? He was just the follower anyway.

“You two sleep. When it gets bright, you can take over the driving.” Qi Yue suddenly felt an unexplainable irritation, like something was about to happen.

“Mm. If you get sleepy, wake me up,” Han Fei replied. He really was tired. Qi Yue’s driving wasn’t bad, and nothing should happen on the highway.

“Mm.” Lin Yuze in the back seat had no objections. He was also tired.

Before long, the sound of snoring could be heard from the two of them. It seemed they were exhausted.

It was pitch-black all around. The car that had been following behind them was nowhere in sight. Whether their car broke down or something else happened, it hadn’t caught up for a while now.

Even better. If they kept following, they’d only be a burden. He hated trouble the most. Since he couldn’t solve it, avoiding it was the best choice.

He took another long drag of his cigarette. Ah, cigarettes were truly good stuff! Luckily he had them, only they could relax his tense nerves and help him forget his worries.

Qi Yue peeled off his jacket with one hand and tossed it onto the window beside him. This d*mned weather, just as it was starting to get light, it was already unbearably hot.

He glanced at Han Fei sleeping in the passenger seat, leaning back in the chair. His normally bold, domineering features looked unusually gentle at this moment. There were still bruises left on his face from yesterday’s fight.

Flicking the cigarette butt out the window, he looked back again at Lin Yuze lying across the back seat. His face was also bruised. Young and handsome, his temperament was somewhere between a man and a boy. Just looking at him made Qi Yue feel unusually close.

Both of them were sleeping soundly. Qi Yue let out a small laugh, he didn’t expect those two to fall for each other so quickly. He wouldn’t discriminate against gay people.

He covered his mouth and yawned. He was starting to feel sleepy. His eyelids grew heavy. He shook his head, forcing himself to stay alert.

On the opposite side of the highway, three identical reinforced black welded hummers were speeding toward them.

In the first car, three men were inside. The one sitting in the front passenger seat turned to the man in the back and said, “Big Brother, this is the only road from Yangcheng. We’ll definitely find Brother Fei.”

The man in the back replied in a low voice, “Mm.”

It was already past four. The sky was dark but faintly white, and they could see a bit of light.

They had set out from M Base the morning of the previous day. For safety at night, to avoid unnecessary trouble, their convoy hadn’t turned on the headlights at all.

He raised his hand and pressed at the muscles between his brows to ease the fatigue. He hadn’t rested well recently. He and Han Fei grew up together, over twenty years of brotherhood. Saying he wasn’t worried would be a lie. Even though he trusted Han Fei’s strength, he was still alone out there.

Yan Bin was Han Fei’s cousin and the current leader of the triad. Before the apocalypse, he controlled the gang’s illegal side: fraud, robbery, kidnapping, smuggling, illegal immigration, loan sharking, extortion, firearms, drugs, and so on.

Tall and burly, with dark skin, sharp, deep eyes, he naturally gave off an oppressive aura. Even wearing black couldn’t hide his extraordinary presence.

Han Fei’s subordinates had long since arrived at L Base, but there had been no news from Han Fei himself. After hearing the bridge in Yangcheng had collapsed, they concluded that he must have taken this road.

He had come specially to find Han Fei. Han Fei was his brother, the person he trusted the most. Along with him came several capable subordinates with various abilities. One of the cars even carried someone with healing abilities.

“Big Brother, there’s a car coming ahead. Looks like Brother Fei’s car,” the little brother in the front seat reported.

Yan Bin looked up. A black welded hummer identical to theirs was coming toward them on the highway. His brows furrowed. He watched the distant car, it was swaying side to side, driving crookedly, and moving very fast toward them. It was frightening.

“Big Brother, that car seems strange,” the little brother said.

“Stop the car in the middle,” Yan Bin ordered. Even though it wasn’t fully bright yet and the distance was a bit far, he was certain that car belonged to Han Fei. Something was clearly wrong. What happened in that car?

The little brother used the walkie-talkie to inform the two cars behind them.

Screech—

The three welded hummers stopped across the road, blocking the entire highway.

Qi Yue’s eyelids were battling each other, and he kept yawning nonstop, to the point his eyes watered. He was so tired, but he wanted to hold out until dawn. Aside from cooking, he hadn’t been of much use recently.

Half-dazed, he couldn’t see the road clearly. He could only drive by instinct. His eyes closed, then he forced them open again. His vision was starting to blur.

He reached out and rubbed his eyes hard, trying to wake himself up. D*mn it, his eyelashes got into his eye. It hurt so much. Qi Yue leaned toward the overhead mirror and pried his eyelid open.

“Big Brother, maybe we should back up a bit,” the little brother in Yan Bin’s car suggested nervously. “Those people in the car, do they not want to live? They’re not slowing down or braking, they’re just charging straight at us. They’re getting closer, my heart’s pounding like crazy.”

Yan Bin’s brows furrowed deeper. He rubbed his chin and stared at the car. He hadn’t expected this. The other side wasn’t slowing down at all, it was beyond his expectations.

Qi Yue held the steering wheel with one hand while rubbing his eye with the other. His eye was red now, teary from being rubbed too hard.

Huff—

He let out a long breath. Finally got it out.

He blinked a few times, much better. He looked forward. Eyes widened. He blinked hard.

It wasn’t an illusion.

F***, were those people idiots?? Parking their cars on the highway like that, what were they trying to do??

Screech—

Screech screech—

Suddenly, loud braking sounds filled the air. The two people sleeping in the car jolted awake.

Qi Yue jerked the steering wheel sharply, tires screeching against the asphalt.

Bang—

Their car and the car blocking the road brushed side-against-side in a close collision.

Qi Yue took several rough breaths. Thank god he had his seat belt on. Thank god his driving was good or he’d be dead!!

If he died like that, how unjust would that be!! He’d never died in a car accident before!!

Suppressing his pounding heart, he suddenly couldn’t hold back his anger anymore. He unbuckled his seat belt and jumped out of the car.

Han Fei didn’t have time to stop him and watched Qi Yue angrily stride out. He recognized the cars blocking the road, they were his people. With that aggressive formation, could it be Yan Bin?

Qi Yue assumed the person blocking the road must be some spoiled rich second-generation from before the apocalypse. At a time like this, they still dared to act like they were above everyone. He had two strong people backing him in his car, he wasn’t afraid of anyone.

He walked straight to the car they collided with. Seeing both cars dented, his anger exploded.

He lifted his hand and slapped the hood over and over—pa pa pa—furious.

Qi Yue was livid. He had never seen such awful people, they almost got him killed!! His life was precious!!

He had not been reborn just to be bullied. He shouted angrily at the people inside the car, “Are you tired of living? Looking to die?? Your grandpa here hasn’t lived enough yet!!”

Those little b*stards didn’t even get out of the car, which only made Qi Yue angrier. He had a mafia boss in his car, he feared no one now.

Lin Yuze almost laughed in the car. He was usually a cold person who rarely found anything amusing, but Qi Yue always made him feel happy.

Han Fei heard him and shrank down in embarrassment, sliding lower in his seat and covering his face. Ah… Qi Yue was too impulsive.

He already recognized the familiar car. Through the half-open window, he could see Yan Bin sitting inside.

The people in the opposite car were stunned. The two gang members in the front forgot to close their mouths. That kid actually dared to talk like that?

Yan Bin, sitting in the back seat, raised his eyebrows when he heard Qi Yue yelling and slapping the hood. His stern face showed a bit of surprise.
