Under Zhuang Lao’s supervision, Lin Zhaohe reluctantly underwent a transformation.
However, in such a dangerous world, it was hard to feel safe with only a three-dimensional identity. Despite his combat abilities, Yellow Banana Girl at least knew how to take a punch.
After Lin Zhaohe completed the transformation, Zhuang Lao drove him towards the location where the monsters had appeared. The car sped rapidly, and along the way, they could see frightened people trying to escape. Although the giant monster was still some distance away, the destruction it caused had already reached this area.
At the same time, Lin Zhaohe suddenly noticed something odd about the snowflakes falling from the sky. In the dim light of the street lamps, he saw faint blue lights twinkling in mid-air. As they landed on the windows, they burned small black holes into the glass.
Lin Zhaohe grew worried. “Boss, there’s something wrong with this snow!”
Zhuang Lao glanced at it and furrowed his brow.
The situation grew even more dire. Lin Zhaohe looked through the window and saw unfortunate individuals in the street trying to escape, but unfortunately, they were getting hit by this strange snow. As soon as the snowflakes landed, they seared holes into people’s bodies. Lin Zhaohe witnessed a poor soul with terrible luck being instantly burned into a hole by a snowflake, screaming in agony as they collapsed lifeless to the ground.
Upon seeing this, others dared not run around in the street. They hurriedly sought cover, attempting to avoid the snowfall. However, the snowflakes kept getting bigger and began piling up on buildings, rapidly corroding them. Even Zhuang Lao’s car wasn’t spared. Lin Zhaohe saw a black spot appearing above their heads, realizing that the snowflake was about to pierce through the car roof and fall onto them.
The massive monster outside was also showered by the snowflakes. Its thick skin provided temporary resistance against the onslaught, but it still felt intense pain. The relentless agony instantly triggered its berserk state, amplifying its destructive rampage.
If the previous fusion had given people time to react, the current scene was akin to doomsday.
Lin Zhaohe couldn’t bear to watch any longer. He asked Zhuang Lao to stop the car and bravely rushed to save a bystander who had fallen to the ground, on the verge of death from the snowflakes. Despite being covered in injuries and in excruciating pain, Lin Zhaohe managed to rescue the unconscious person and brought them to safety by the roadside. Gritting his teeth, he told Zhuang Lao, “Boss, you go ahead. I’ll stay here and save people!”
Zhuang Lao responded firmly, “Okay.”
“What about your car?” Lin Zhaohe asked, realizing that the vehicle was beyond repair.
“It’s okay,” Zhuang Lao reassured him. “We can go without the car.”
Lin Zhaohe saw him step out of the car. He was initially worried that he might get burned by the snowflakes. But to his surprise, when the snowflakes landed on him, there was no reaction at all. They even returned to their original pure white appearance. Standing in the snow, he had a calm and peaceful demeanor, reminding Lin Zhaohe once again of the divinity in the game.
“Xiao He, you go ahead,” Zhuang Lao said softly, casting a glance at the colossal monster behind him.
“Boss,” Lin Zhaohe couldn’t help but call out as he watched Zhuang Lao turn around.
Zhuang Lao asked, “Hmm?”
“Stay safe,” Lin Zhaohe said.
Zhuang Lao nodded. The snowfall grew heavier, and snowflakes landed on his pitch-black eyelashes. “Xiao He, you also need to stay safe.” After speaking, he swiftly departed, moving so fast that he almost turned into a blur.
Meanwhile, Lin Zhaohe exerted all his strength to rescue the defenseless civilians on the street. Shielded by a barrier of light, he saved a girl from a phone booth and brought her to a nearby building. He then went on to lift another man lying on the ground, his fate unknown. Unbeknownst to him, snowflakes also landed on his own body.
However, to Lin Zhaohe’s surprise, these snowflakes had no effect on him. It seemed that the snowflakes lacked the popularity to pose a threat and break through Yellow Banana Girl’s defensive abilities.
With this realization, Lin Zhaohe significantly hastened his rescue efforts. However, although he saved people, he couldn’t heal their wounds. Looking at the gruesome, gaping wounds and hearing the moans and cries coming from their mouths, Lin Zhaohe felt deep sorrow. He stood there with a furrowed brow, pondering over what he could do. Just as he was lost in thought, someone grabbed his shoulder.
“What’s this? Don’t you need teammates when saving the world?” A man’s voice came from behind, somewhat familiar yet unfamiliar. Lin Zhaohe turned his head and stood still for a few seconds—there he saw a man wearing a pink dress. It was none other than Strawberry Girl, a member of the Magical Girl Team and was a unfortunate victim of social death, as he was thought to be cheating when he was actually off saving the world as a magical girl.
Their eyes met, and the atmosphere froze for a few seconds.
“I thought you wouldn’t transform in front of others,” Fu Li said. “But it turns out you’ve become proficient in magic. You even handle the level 99 Light Shield skill with mastery!”
Lin Zhaohe felt a bit troubled. “Have you fully accepted this setting?”
Fu Li: “Hell no. If it weren’t for the circumstances forcing me, who would end up like this?”
Lin Zhaohe: “Enough talk. Let’s hurry up and save people.”
Fu Li: “You go! I’m Strawberry Girl. I can heal their wounds!” As he finished speaking, his magic wand emitted a pink light, and he effortlessly healed the person in front of him who was suffering in pain.
However, whether it was due to enduring the pain for too long or being startled by Fu Li, the person who had managed to stay conscious until now, after being healed, stared at Fu Li’s dress for a while. In a trembling voice, they asked, “Why does Strawberry Girl look like this?”
Turned out they were a fan of the Fruit Magical Team.
Fu Li smiled, revealing eight neat, white teeth. “Well, were you always curious to see what your favorite idol has underneath the dress?” This guy had absolutely no sense of propriety. Lin Zhaohe couldn’t even stop him as he directly lifted his own dress.
As a result, Lin Zhaohe saw the person, who had completely healed, express a look of agony and shock. Their eyes rolled back, and they fainted on the spot.
Fu Li witnessed this scene and gleefully burst into laughter, deriving a sense of achievement similar to shattering a child’s dream of Santa Claus. Lin Zhaohe was left speechless by his despicable behavior and said, “If you have time for this, why don’t you hurry up and save a few more people?”
“You’re right, I’ll go.” With a bold stride, he headed towards a group of people nearby who looked terrified. His steps were too big, nearly causing his dress to lift up again, but luckily he managed to hold it down a bit—
Lin Zhaohe felt a sharp pain in his eyes and forcefully averted his gaze from Fu Li. He felt that if he continued to look, he would end up in the same state as the person who had fainted.
Other characters from the Magical Girl Team also appeared, joining forces to help save many people who were trapped on the street. The snowfall in the sky grew heavier, corroding the concrete ground into numerous black pits, just like the buildings. If the snow continued, the surrounding structures would also give way.
In the pitch-black night, the air was filled with shimmering blue snowflakes. Suddenly, there was a violent explosion where the giant beast was located. They were not too far from that spot, and the windows shattered from the impact.
Lin Zhaohe looked towards the source of the explosion and noticed the sudden appearance of several fighter jets in the sky. They were currently besieging the giant beast. Bright lights appeared around the creature’s body, resembling fast-moving entities also attacking the monster. The giant beast now bore conspicuous wounds and its steps towards the residential area became sluggish.
Lin Zhaohe breathed a sigh of relief, thinking it shouldn’t come over here.
“Wuwuwuwu…” the sound of crying echoed among the rescued crowd, piercing through the agonizing moans. Lin Zhaohe looked and saw a young boy, kneeling beside a lifeless body, wailing.
While Fu Li could barely save someone with minor injuries, if the injuries were too severe, he would be helpless. This deceased person had already been soaked through by the snowflakes upon arrival, their wounds visible to the bone, resembling a skeleton. Even Fu Li had no solution in such a case.
“Mom, Mom!” The boy clutched the lifeless body, his voice hoarse as he cried out, his eyes filled with despair, like a trapped and wounded beast. Tears streamed down his face as he pleaded, “I only have you, Mom, please, don’t leave me—”
The boy’s anguish infected those around him, and soon a chorus of weeping filled the air. The people who had just narrowly escaped death couldn’t help but join in, their voices blending into a melancholic symphony within the crowd.
“Why wasn’t it me who died?” the boy sobbed. “I can’t take it anymore, I can’t. When will this nightmare end, Mom? Mom, I can’t bear it anymore. No one can save us, no one…”
Lin Zhaohe choked up, as the boy’s crying reminded him of his own past. He too had lost his parents and suddenly found himself alone. Such an abrupt change could shatter a person’s spirit. If it weren’t for Zhuang Lao finding him, Lin Zhaohe might have already succumbed to the depths of despair. Witnessing this scene, he didn’t know how to console the boy. Every word seemed futile against the harsh reality. After a moment of hesitation, Lin Zhaohe reached out and embraced the boy, exerting some strength, attempting to transmit his own resolve through the embrace, and softly reassured him, “Things will get better, they will.”
“Will it really get better?” the boy, upon hearing Lin Zhaohe’s words, asked in a daze. “It would be so much better if the divinity from the game were here.”
Lin Zhaohe was taken aback.
“If the divinity from the game could merge into reality,” the boy said, “then Mom wouldn’t have died, right?”
Surprisingly, his words resonated with the people around him, and discussions erupted in waves.
“If it’s the divinity, they can make the snowflakes disappear.”
“Certainly, not just the snowflakes, even the monster would vanish…”
“So, does that mean my child doesn’t have to die?”
“If I make a wish, can Mom and Dad come back to me?”
Desperate people grasped onto the last straw of salvation, unable to release their pain, and transformed it into completely unrealistic fantasies.
“I wish I could live in the game. I wish there were divinity like this in reality,” the boy in Lin Zhaohe’s embrace expressed his wish with a numb tone. “I wish none of this had happened, I wish…”
Lin Zhaohe didn’t know what to say, so he reached out and gently patted the boy’s head.
“The color of the snow changed!” someone in the crowd suddenly exclaimed.
Everyone turned their heads and noticed that the densely packed, shimmering blue snowflakes had turned pure white. Someone limped to the doorway and carefully caught one. There was no burning sensation. The snowflakes had returned to their harmless appearance.
Faces in the crowd revealed expressions of joy at this sight. “What happened?”
What happened… Lin Zhaohe also felt perplexed, but deep down, he sensed a connection between this change and Zhuang Lao that couldn’t be ignored.
He stood up and walked outside, feeling the chilly snowflakes lightly landing on the tips of his hair, bringing a refreshing sensation. He exhaled and looked in the direction of Zhuang Lao, where he saw the black giant beast come to a halt.
It seemed unable to move, as if something had firmly immobilized its body in place. It could only let out feeble roars while fighter jets inflicted one wound after another, diminishing its life force.
The colossal monster finally reached its breaking point, swaying and on the verge of collapse. The onlookers, however, displayed fearful expressions. “What if this thing falls and hits someone?”
Standing over a hundred meters tall, no matter which direction the creature fell, it would undoubtedly result in a tremendous disaster.
