Upon hearing Gu Xuyu’s question, his friend responded confidently, “Of course, it’s the child you carried for nine months and gave birth to for me!” He then displayed a picture of the child, bearing a strong resemblance to Gu Xuyu.
Lin Zhaohe noticed Gu Xuyu’s chest heaving intensely as he glimpsed the child. It seemed he could no longer bear such a provocation.
Worried about the situation escalating, Lin Zhaohe timidly suggested, “Maybe we should end things here today…”
“No, since we’re already here, let’s sort this out!” shouted the eldest disciple. “Master, who do you truly love, me or him?”
The friend: “How could you even ask? You’ve hurt him deeply! It’s impossible for him to still have any feelings for you!”
Another person: “He never responded to any of you. It was all your wishful thinking——”
They started arguing, and the conference room immediately descended into chaos.
Just as Lin Zhaohe was about to speak, Gu Xuyu suddenly smiled, his smile as refreshing as melting snow and as vibrant as blooming flowers. Everyone was stunned, except for Lin Zhaohe, who sensed a chilling determination.
Gu Xuyu: “You’re all a bunch of lunatics. It seems evil spirits have taken over your minds. In that case, there’s no need to spare your lives…” With those words, he summoned a magical tool, ready to confront the people in front of him.
“Wait a moment—” Lin Zhaohe hurriedly interjected, “Friend Gu!”
“Friend Lin,” Gu Xuyu coldly replied, “Don’t persuade me.”
Lin Zhaohe: “I’m not trying to persuade you. I understand what’s happening!”
Gu Xuyu: “What?”
Lin Zhaohe cautiously probed, “Friend Gu, have you ever considered that they… are not from the same world as you?”
Gu Xuyu was momentarily stunned.
“In our world,” Lin Zhaohe explained with anguish, “there is something called fanfics…”
They had the same backdrop and protagonist, but they were creations of fan enthusiasts, with vastly different content that deviated greatly from the original.
Such works did exist, but they seldom merged into the mainstream. Even if they did, due to their limited popularity, they had little impact and were easily overlooked by the majority.
After listening to Xiao Ci’s words outside, Lin Zhaohe suddenly had a ridiculous idea – Gu Xuyu and his disciples might not be from the same book at all.
Gu Xuyu, the protagonist of the canonical work “Immortal of Shu,” was cold, powerful, and focused on his career. However, those disciples who were in love with Gu Xuyu came from fanfictions of “Immortal of Shu,” possibly not even from the same book.
In those various fanfiction works, Gu Xuyu was completely OOC. Not only did he engage in romantic relationships with his disciples, but he even had a child with his fellow Daoist…
Due to a series of coincidences, these two groups of people collided, resulting in the chaotic and dramatic scene unfolding before them.
Lin Zhaohe was afraid that a fight would break out and damage the company. He explained tirelessly, and initially, the people in the conference room were puzzled. However, once they understood, their expressions became incredibly complex.
Gu Xuyu sighed softly and said, “So, you’re saying they are not my disciples?”
Lin Zhaohe replied, “You can interpret it that way if you want…”
Gu Xuyu sneered, “Then it would be even more justified for me to kill them all, wouldn’t it?”
Lin Zhaohe was speechless. He thought explaining things clearly would prevent misunderstandings, but now Gu Xuyu seemed even more inclined to take action, as if it was the most natural course of action.
“Wait, wait a moment,” Lin Zhaohe quickly intervened, stopping them in their tracks. “Friend Gu, taking a life damages your Yin virtue. Consider it a favor to me, Lin Zhaohe… Let’s forget about this matter today. Everyone, stop bothering Friend Gu.”
In the original work, these so-called disciples were no match for Gu Xuyu, let alone considering they were from fanfiction works. The difference in popularity affected their strength. Comparing the popularity of the original work to the fanfictions, it would be as challenging for Gu Xuyu to kill them as it would be to crush a single ant.
The group looked at each other, taken aback by the bizarre turn of events.
“Quick, everyone, let’s go,” Lin Zhaohe hurriedly called out, afraid that if they moved too slowly, Gu Xuyu would erupt in anger and squeeze them to death. “Stop standing there like fools…”
Seeing the situation, everyone quickly stood up and left without waiting for Gu Xuyu to become furious. Clearly, they realized that Gu Xuyu wasn’t joking.
The once crowded conference room now felt empty and desolate. Lin Zhaohe wiped away a cold sweat, breathed a sigh of relief, thankful that they didn’t engage in a fight. Otherwise, the conference room would have been completely demolished, and he would bear the blame.
“Brother Lin, is the conference room available now?” Xiao Ci approached after seeing the guests leave.
“They’ have left,” Lin Zhaohe replied. “Please tidy up…”
Xiao Ci nodded and said, “Alright.”
“Giving birth?” Gu Xuyu, still seated in his original position, looked at the photo of “his child” on the presentation slide and said gloomily, “Gu Xuyu giving birth to a child?”
Xiao Ci still didn’t realize that the person in front of her was Gu Xuyu. While tidying up the table, she muttered to herself, “What’s wrong with giving birth? There are even more exciting plot twists…”
She had no sense of shame, giggling and rambling on about various nonsensical storylines. Lin Zhaohe felt dizzy listening to her, understanding every word individually but unable to make sense of them when they were put together.
Gu Xuyu grew increasingly silent, his face becoming more solemn. Finally, unable to contain himself, he whispered, “Could it be that all these people want to come to this world?”
Lin Zhaohe observed his expression and suspected that if Xiao Ci answered “yes,” he would immediately eliminate each and every one of these people.
“No,” Xiao Ci waved her hand dismissively. “Their popularity is too low. They probably wouldn’t even find a job if they came here…” She grinned, “Who are you?”
Gu Xuyu clasped his hands together and introduced himself, “I am Gu Xuyu.”
Xiao Ci’s smile froze on her face.
“From the original work,” Gu Xuyu added, understanding Xiao Ci’s concern and trying to be considerate.
Xiao Ci’s forced smile disappeared completely. As a loyal fan of the original work, she had read it countless times and knew very well that Gu Xuyu was ruthless and would never hesitate to kill if he truly wanted to.
Xiao Ci looked at Lin Zhaohe with a pained expression. “Brother Lin…”
“It’s alright, everything is fine now,” Lin Zhaohe also felt overwhelmed. He felt like he had opened a door to a new world that shouldn’t have been opened. “Friend Gu, let’s go back for now.”
Gu Xuyu nodded. “Alright.”
The situation was resolved just like that, without any gruesome bloodshed. It was truly something worth celebrating.
After returning home, Gu Xuyu felt grateful for Lin Zhaohe’s assistance. He mentioned that he had an injury and as a token of appreciation, he gave Lin Zhaohe a pill.
Lin Zhaohe expressed his gratitude and accepted the pill. He then made a call to Zhuang Lao, briefly describing what had happened.
“That’s about it. The atmosphere at the time was terrifying,” Lin Zhaohe said. “I thought Gu Xuyu was going to slaughter them all as a sacrificial offering…”
Zhuang Lao: “Well, he’s alright. He has a good temper.”
Lin Zhaohe: “He gave me a pill and said it can heal wounds. Should I take it?”
“Go ahead and take it,” Zhuang Lao advised. “He brings good things with him, and it will benefit your body.”
With Zhuang Lao’s approval, Lin Zhaohe felt more at ease. So, when he found some free time, he took the pill.
After consuming it, black stains appeared all over his body, especially on his shoulder, as if all the stagnant blood had been cleansed.
While scrubbing himself in the bath, Lin Zhaohe pondered. Wasn’t this the beginning of a typical cultivation novel? Setting that aside, the cosmetic effect was quite remarkable. His skin became translucent, fair, and tender, making Lin Zhaohe feel as if he had shed several years off his age.
After taking the pill Gu Xuyu had given him, the severe wound on his shoulder completely healed, and his movements became much swifter than before. He had a sense of rebirth and transformation.
Lin Zhaohe: There are good things in the two-dimensional world too.
With his wound healed, he wanted to go upstairs and thank Gu Xuyu. He knocked on Gu Xuyu’s door and found him sitting inside, playing a video game, with Little Red Square sitting next to him. They would occasionally exchange a few words.
Lin Zhaohe walked behind them and observed for a while, only to realize that they were playing Block Crush…
Lin Zhaohe: “…” Are you just clearing blocks for yourself?
The atmosphere between the two, each with their own block, was harmonious. Lin Zhaohe couldn’t help but join in the game, turning it into three people happily playing block-matching, while a female ghost, seemingly appearing out of nowhere, hovered above them with a puzzled expression.
Zhuang Lao told Lin Zhaohe to return to work once he recovered from his illness. So the next day, with a refreshed spirit, Lin Zhaohe arrived at the office.
He was in a good mood and humming a tune as he entered the company. He received a warm welcome from his colleagues. Zhang Xiaoxiao rushed up to him with his phone, his eyes almost disappearing from his wide smile. “Brother Lin, your fan is looking for you—”
Lin Zhaohe had a bad feeling about this.
Sure enough, the next moment, a familiar face appeared before his eyes. It was Zhou Ze, whom he had met in the boundary.
“Brother Lin!!” Zhou Ze, wearing a yellow T-shirt, exclaimed with a smile. “I’ve been waiting for you for so long!”
Lin Zhaohe’s pupils shook. “What are you here for?”
“I’ve come to thank you,” Zhou Ze said. “I found out the name of your company online and learned that you work here…”
Lin Zhaohe’s voice trembled. “You found out my name?”
Zhou Ze: “Yeah, everyone knows now that this insurance company has a magical girl named Yellow Banana Girl.”
Zhang Xiaoxiao burst into laughter beside them, a laughter so piercing that it made Lin Zhaohe’s eyes turn red. “Why the hell would anyone know about that?”
Zhou Ze: “Well, I guess it’s because you’ve become popular… The whole world knows that you can transform now.”
Lin Zhaohe felt a mixture of shame and anger, nearly fainting from the humiliation.
“I’m just kidding, Brother Lin,” Zhou Ze chuckled, thoroughly amused. “I found out through Jiang Guan. She’s a celebrity, so she’s easy to find.”
Lin Zhaohe: “Alright, cut to the chase. Why are you here?”
Zhou Ze: “Well, I felt like your company is reliable, so I wanted to get insurance for my family and myself. It’s a dangerous world we live in these days.”
Lin Zhaohe accepted this explanation and thought to himself that Zhou Ze’s family must be quite wealthy. Buying insurance from this company would cost a fortune. He had wondered before why some characters from the 2D world had also bought insurance from their company, despite not appearing particularly affluent. He had no idea how they paid for it…
“Brother Lin, you’re still here?” Xiao Ci said. “The boss was just looking for you.”
Lin Zhaohe: “What’s the matter?”
Xiao Ci: “Seems like a big contract came in. You should go to the boss’s office and take a look.”
Lin Zhaohe agreed.
