The No. 1 Hunfen King in the Entire Server [Interstellar] Chapter 20

Learn From Me

Thinking about it all made Lin Jing so furious that his chest hurt.

No, he had just gotten out of the hospital. He needed to take care of himself. Calm down. Calm down.

After taking a deep breath, Lin Jing calmed his emotions and typed a line into the chat window.

[Shuang Mu Cheng Jing: Forget it. Let the past stay in the past.]

Mention it again, and I’ll sew your mouth shut.

On the other side, Blondie was crying bitterly.

[One Hundred One Night: D*mn, Brother Lin, you added 25 points! Of course, you can let it slide easily! Wuwuwu, the three points I painstakingly earned last round are gone just like that. I’m so pissed!]

[One Hundred One Night: This makes my already dire situation even worse.]

[One Hundred One Night: Wuwuwu, Brother Lin, you’re right. Slacking off to the end leaves you with nothing.]

Lin Jing smirked at the screen. You actually realized that? Then this game wasn’t a total waste.

Knock knock. At this moment, there was a knock on the door.

Lin Jing paused for a moment. “Come in.”

It was Professor Lin at the door. Upon hearing his response, he pushed it open and walked in.

“You’re out?” Professor Lin, a middle-aged man with a gentle and scholarly air, adjusted his glasses and smiled warmly. “If you’re done, come down and have something to eat. Your mother has been worried sick.”

Lin Jing rubbed his temples. His entire body felt as if it had been run over by a truck, and all he wanted was to sleep. He shook his head. “Not now, Dad. I’ll sleep first and come down after I wake up.”

Professor Lin frowned slightly but nodded. “Alright.” After some thought, he added, “You still have six months. Don’t rush. Take three days to rest this time.”

“I know.”

Even if his dad hadn’t said it, Lin Jing’s body wouldn’t let him rush into the next round.

Professor Lin, holding the door handle, added, “I recently contacted Dean Chang at the research institute and asked about mental recovery. I’ll talk to you about it when you wake up.”

Lin Jing was taken aback, then slowly nodded.

Professor Lin had just come to confirm that he’d exited the game. After learning the result, he gently closed the door and went downstairs.

Lin Jing took a deep breath, stood up, and opened the window. Blinding sunlight streamed in.

Outside was a forest, and beyond that lay a stretch of beach. The fine golden sand shimmered, and the azure sea stretched under a clear sky where seagulls soared. This was Hailan Star, a planet hailed as a “paradise” in the interstellar age.

He stood by the window for a long time, the heaviness in his chest gradually dissipating. Finally, he crawled back into bed.

The mental drain from Survivor was immense. He fell asleep the moment his head hit the pillow, his consciousness quickly sinking into darkness.

Lin Jing slept deeply, waking only the next morning.

Birdsong chirped brightly outside. He sat up, rubbed his eyes, and pressed a switch by the bed.

Clinking noises echoed from the corridor, and a round-headed housekeeper robot dashed in.

“Good morning, Master. The temperature on Hailan Star today is 23 degrees and sunny. How may I assist you?”

Still groggy, Lin Jing said, “Get me a set of clothes.”

His mother, an obsessive perfectionist, insisted everything be immaculate. She could scold him for half a day if the clothes were in disarray. As an adult, Lin Jing had the robot take the blame.

After washing up and dressing casually, Lin Jing went downstairs.

The TV in the living room was on, broadcasting news from the main planet.

Professor Lin sipped tea and read the newspaper, while Lin’s mother, in a white dress, bent over to arrange a vase of flowers.

The sound of the housekeeper robot signaled Lin Jing’s arrival.

Professor Lin put down the tea and paper, smiling. “Finally up? Eat first.”

“Okay.” Lin Jing, still sleepy and with messy hair, slowly sat at the table.

He sipped milk and bit into bread while watching his mother work.

She was arranging a cluster of heavy white hyacinths, adjusting the long green leaves for aesthetic balance.

His mother was a botanist. Although she didn’t specialize in flowers, she had a deep love for growing them.

When Lin Jing was a child, back when they still lived on the main star, his most vivid memory was the sea of hyacinths in front of their house.

The genetically modified hyacinths had especially large flower clusters. When the wind blew, the tiny white petals would scatter like snowflakes. But Lin Jing could never appreciate their beauty—because every time he set foot in that cursed place, his mother would drag him into hard labor.

Mother Lin finally found the perfect angle, clapped her hands happily, and turned around—only to meet her son’s gaze. She smiled, eyes crinkling. “Well? Isn’t it beautiful? It’s a new fluorescent variety.”

Lin Jing took a bite of his bread. “A new variety? Did you test it for toxicity? Are you sure you want to keep it indoors?”

Mother Lin knocked him lightly on the head as she sat down at the table. “You’re so unromantic. You’ll never find a girlfriend at this rate.”

Lin Jing silently took a sip of his milk.

After leaving the research institute, Lin’s parents settled on Hailan Star and took up teaching positions at the local university. Today was Saturday—a rare day when they were both home with nothing to do.

After knocking on his head, Mother Lin cupped his face in both hands, her deep blue eyes scrutinizing him carefully. She sighed with emotion. “Ah, my poor son, you’ve lost so much weight this past year.”

Lin Jing finished his last bite of bread. “I’ll gain it back eventually.”

Mother Lin chuckled. “Let’s not talk about that. So? Did you win the first game in Survivor?”

Lin Jing was always calm and composed in front of outsiders, but with his parents, he couldn’t help but let his pride show. Trying to act casual, he said, “How could I lose? 25 points—easy. Just played around and got it.”

Mother Lin burst into laughter. “So impressive—25 points, a perfect score.”

Father Lin set down his newspaper and joined in, smiling. “I remember the research institute gave out beta test slots back then. In the first round, Little Jing also got a perfect score.”

Lin Jing had been in a car accident and was in a coma for a year. On top of that, he had lost the year of memories before the accident. It left him with a two-year blank period. He had no idea he had been that skilled before. Blinking, he turned to his father. “Dad, I played this game before? Was I really that good?”

Father Lin gave him a sidelong glance and said flatly, “Who knows if you were good or not? All I know is that you got a perfect score in the beta test. After that, you hid your game ID and wouldn’t let me or your mom know anything. You told us it was ‘personal privacy’ and even lectured us about how you were grown up and needed your own space.”

Lin Jing: “…”

Oh.

Mother Lin smiled as she watched her son stumble over his words. Flicking her long hair back, she turned to her husband and said, “Didn’t you say you contacted Dean Chang last time? What happened? Tell Little Jing now.”

Upon hearing this serious matter, Father Lin put away his smile and frowned. Dean Chang of the Imperial Research Institute was a renowned figure in this interstellar era.

Hearing the name, Lin Jing also tensed up. Even reaching the top of the leaderboard in Survivor only earned him an S-level qualification certificate, which was the highest achievable through manual assessment. Of course, if possible, he would prefer to regain his original SS level.

Professor Lin frowned deeply and said slowly, “I talked to Dean Chang about your situation. He said that for someone like you, whose mental power has rebounded several levels, there’s a significant possibility of recovery. However, without meeting you in person, he can’t determine your exact condition. He wants you to visit the main star for a specialized examination.”

Lin Jing was taken aback. “I go to the main star?”

Professor Lin nodded. “Yes, don’t feel awkward about it. Dean Chang and I studied under the same mentor, so we’re like brothers and have a good relationship. When you go, you can stay at his place and just call him Uncle Chang.”

Lin Jing hesitated. Although he had lived on the main star for a while as a child, that was before the age of six.

Seeing his son’s conflicted expression, Professor Lin couldn’t help but laugh. “If you’re going to college, Imperial University is on the main star. You’ll have to go sooner or later. So why hesitate now?”

Being reminded by his father, Lin Jing suddenly realized it made sense. Scratching his head awkwardly, he smiled and said, “You’re right. When should I leave?”

Professor Lin replied, “There’s no rush. He’s busy with experiments right now, and your body hasn’t fully recovered. Hailan Star is far from the main star, and I’m afraid you’d get dizzy halfway through the trip.” Half-jokingly, he added, “Take your time to rest and keep a calm mind. The higher the expectations, the greater the disappointment. Be prepared for all outcomes.”

Even though Professor Lin tried to temper his enthusiasm, Lin Jing couldn’t help but feel excited. It was as if he’d seen a ray of hope in the darkness—having hope was a good thing.

Professor Lin then received a phone call about one of his graduate students and headed out to the university.

Meanwhile, Mother Lin returned to her study to work on a paper, reminding Lin Jing as she left, “Remember to eat on time, don’t stay cooped up at home, and go out for a walk if you feel bored.”

Lin Jing, in a good mood, responded obediently, “Got it.”

After his parents left, Lin Jing sat in his chair, unable to suppress the smile tugging at his lips.

Just then, the household robot approached, its cleaning function humming along. Unable to hold back his excitement, Lin Jing playfully patted its smooth head several times, the sound of “thump, thump” echoing.

Faced with the robot’s confused and befuddled expression—complete with metaphorical question marks—Lin Jing cleared his throat and said cheerfully, “Keep up the good work.”

Even his tone was light and buoyant.

The robot: “……”

The frustration Lin Jing felt during his first game vanished completely, leaving him brimming with joy.

While heading upstairs, he received a call from an old friend from the main star.

The two had grown up together, once dubbed the “Double Tyrants of Hailan Star” during their rebellious middle school days. But now, this guy had become a year ahead of him as a senior, while Lin Jing hadn’t even entered university yet. It was infuriating to think about.

Answering the call, Lin Jing was greeted by Lu Xingyu’s exaggerated voice. “You actually answered my call? I thought you’d forgotten about your wife from humble beginnings!”

Lin Jing: “Drop the ‘wife; part and replace it with ‘son.’ So, what’s my loyal son calling his father for?”

Lu Xingyu scoffed. “Father? When you get into university, you’d better call me ‘senior.’ Got it?”

Lin Jing, in a good mood, couldn’t be bothered to argue. “That’s six months away. Besides, only handsome guys get to be called ‘senior.’ You, at best, are just Big Two.”

Lu Xingyu: “…… Get lost.”

Suddenly, Lu Xingyu remembered something and perked up again, sounding smug. “I heard you’re back playing Survivor! Want me to guide you? I’m ranked 105th on the leaderboard now, with 1,800 points. Bow down and call me boss!”

Lin Jing responded flatly, “Oh.” But when Lu Xingyu mentioned Survivor, Lin Jing paused mid-spin of his pen and leaned back in his chair. “I’ve lost a lot of memories. What rank was I before?”

Lu Xingyu’s tone turned gleefully mischievous. “Your rank? You were number one.”

Lin Jing’s eyes widened. “Number one?”

Seriously? He was that good?

Lu Xingyu teased, “But your rank back then was pretty hollow. The game didn’t have many players at the time, so you just lucked out. Now, you’d barely crack the top 100. Also, your old username was really something. What was it again? Oh, right, ‘Take Me as an Example.’ Take you as an example?! Example of what? The audacity!”

Lin Jing: “……” If usernames weren’t unique, he’d still want “Take Me as an Example.” It perfectly matched his name—it had depth, style, and sophistication. Lu Xingyu simply lacked the taste to appreciate it.

After rambling on, Lu Xingyu finally showed some concern. “How’s your recovery going?”

Lin Jing: “Not bad.”

Lu Xingyu sighed deeply. “Not bad, huh…” His tone carried a trace of envy.

Lin Jing laughed. “What’s with you?”

Lu Xingyu sighed again. “Don’t even ask, Jingzi. Spend the next six months at home having fun, treat it as your last vacation. Man, I realized after joining this school—it’s h*ll. Back on Hailan Star, I was a big shot. Here, I’m nothing.”

Lin Jing: “Huh?”

Lu Xingyu scratched his nose, sounding downcast. “S-level mental power is just the entry requirement. Once you’re in the mecha department, you’ll see—it’s full of freaks. I get pummeled in training classes every day. My instructor said my mecha piloting looks like a kindergarten dance—bouncy, clumsy, and adorable.”

Lin Jing burst out laughing.

Lu Xingyu, now embarrassed and angry, snapped, “What are you laughing at? You’ll be the same when you get here.”

With a sulky tone, Lu Xingyu added, “Oh, and the most terrifying guy at school? I haven’t met him yet, only heard the legends. This big shot skips all classes but still aces every exam, topping the entire department. Meanwhile, I study until I’m about to collapse and butter up the instructors like crazy, only to barely pass. I’m done for.”

Lin Jing kept smiling.

Listening to Lu Xingyu rant about university life, he couldn’t help but feel a tinge of envy.

If it weren’t for that car accident, he too would be one of them now. Surrounded by elites, the competition would be more thrilling.

Recalling what Professor Lin had just mentioned, Lin Jing said to his childhood friend, “I might head to the main planet soon.”

Lu Xingyu replied with enthusiasm, “Hmm? Hmm? Hmm? To see me?”

Lin Jing responded calmly, “To see a doctor.”

The quick shift in mood made Lu Xingyu retort sarcastically, “Haha.”

Still, the thought of his friend visiting the main planet excited Lu Xingyu immensely. He couldn’t help but break into a laugh again. Overwhelmed with joy, he said, “When you arrive, call me. I’ll pick you up.”

Lin Jing replied, “It’s still far off.”

Lu Xingyu suggested, “You must be bored now, right? Check out the Survivor forums for fun. I love reading the gossip there—so much drama, love, and hatred. It’s better than novels! Just the other day, I read about a guy who met a girl in the game, added her contact info afterward, and got scammed for eighty thousand credits in a month. I couldn’t stop laughing.”

Lin Jing rubbed his forehead. “Now I understand why you’re struggling in university.”

What a waste of time.

Lu Xingyu snorted, rambled on for a while longer, and finally said, “I have class today, even though it’s Saturday. But don’t forget to call me when you arrive at the main planet.”

“Alright.”

After ending the call with Lu Xingyu, Lin Jing slowly turned on his computer. Before logging off last night, he’d told Blondie he was going to sleep. But upon logging back in, he saw a flood of messages from him.

[One Hundred One Night]: Hello, Brother Lin, are you awake yet?
[One Hundred One Night]: Brother Lin, I went over yesterday’s game. Remember how Brother Xu said his ID is Wan Feng Wan Yue? I splashed cold water on my face three times to calm down, but I think… we might have actually met the real deal.
[One Hundred One Night]: Holy cr*p!!!!!!!

The rest was a string of exclamation marks.

[One Hundred One Night]: Could it really be him? If it is, I don’t even mind losing all my points. Just knowing this would give me bragging rights for a year.

Wan Feng Wan Yue? Lin Jing’s fingers hovered over the keyboard as he clicked on the leaderboard on the Survivor official website.

The leaderboard was simple and unadorned, but each name carried an aura of reverence.

The first name to catch his eye was “Wan Feng Wan Yue.”

It was an odd name—elegant, poetic, suggesting the player might be a gentle, smiling individual. But being ranked first also lent an untouchable, aloof vibe. However, since Lin Jing had once been a top-ranking player himself, he didn’t feel the same awe or reverence as Blondie.

Instead, he was puzzled. If it really was Xu Wanzhi… what was his motive?

Wan Feng Wan Yue, 3000 points. The score was a whopping 600 points ahead of the second-place player.

He entered a beginner match to learn? Learn what?

Next to the leaderboard was the forum. Thinking of Lu Xingyu’s recommendation, Lin Jing clicked on it as well.

The forum mostly featured posts criticizing the developers, teammates, and matchmaking system. However, since the game was backed by the empire’s research institute, no one dared to openly criticize it. The second most common type of post was players boasting about romantic encounters in-game, high scores, or sharing strategies from top players.

One thread caught Lin Jing’s eye: “Discussion about the top ten players on the leaderboard.”

He clicked on it.

[Discussion about the Top Ten Players on the Leaderboard]

Original Post: Here’s a screenshot of the current leaderboard.

First place is undoubtedly Wan Feng Wan Yue. Ever since the system update, this player has held the top spot. It’s been a month, and their score hasn’t budged. I suspect they’ve run out of competition and lost interest in playing.

The other ranks are much closer in score. I’ve noticed the top ten spots shuffle frequently, but it’s always the same group of people. It’s been ages since we’ve seen any newcomers. (Sigh) When will we see some fresh blood?

Let’s talk about the top ten players who’ve revealed their identities.

7th Place: “Carlson.” This guy is the youngest son of the main planet’s Marshal. His real name is his ID—[impressive]. Born with S-rank mental power, he’s currently studying at Imperial University. Truly a golden boy.

6th Place: “Lilith.” The only woman in the top ten and the daughter of the Council Chief. From what I’ve read, her family has a history of producing genetically superior individuals. Many years ago, there was even an SSS-rank mental power female who came from her family. Incredible genes. But let’s not dwell on this, lest my account gets banned.

1st Comment: If you dare mention an SSS-rank woman, you’re already a goner, bro.

2nd Comment: Execution orders incoming. [Laughing emoji]

Lin Jing skimmed through the post. Since there wasn’t any mention of Xu Wanzhi, he exited.

He had been browsing casually, but while refreshing the page, a trending post caught his attention.

The author’s username made Lin Jing pause—”Invincible Brother Hao”?

The post title read: “Heh, let me rant about a certain pro player from my last match.”

Main Post [Invincible Brother Hao]: A low-level adventure mode game with an average score of 6 points, and in the end, only one person cleared it— with a perfect score of 25. Think about that, really think about it. You telling me there’s no shady business going on? Haha, I knew it. I initially thought he was just some freeloader clinging to stronger players, and I was right.

And to think I even treated him as a teammate halfway through, forcing myself to not be biased. But in the end? He colluded with the boss and wiped us all out. Haha.

1st Floor: ?

2nd Floor: Sitting here for the tea.

[Invincible Brother Hao]: Nothing much to say, just wanted to rant about a certain “big shot” from my last game. Did absolutely nothing but set fires. Got arrested three times.

In the end, won the game thanks to his lover.

Haha, amazing. What do we call this? Set fire to the mountain, and I end up at the police station. Set another fire, and the boss falls in love with me.

15th Floor: ?? Bro, I know you’re suffering, but why is this so funny?

16th Floor: Hahahaha +1

[Invincible Brother Hao]: What’s so funny?! Count the absurdities he caused. While we were searching for clues, he was making eyes at his lover on the staircase. When we rested for the night, they snuck away with an NPC’s cow to the woods to fool around—only for the cow to be stolen! Who even does that? Finally, we all died and ascended to heaven, helplessly watching him bid a teary farewell to his lover atop a mountain.

37L: “OMG hahaha, I can’t hold it in, this is too much!”

38L: “So tragic, so hilarious hahaha!”

Feng Haozhong was livid as the thread filled with laughter. Furious and fuming, he raged:

[Invincible Brother Hao]: “Laugh, laugh, laugh—do you think it’s funny?! Those two beasts, those scoundrels! I’m furious—my eleven points, gone! D*mn it!”

Lin Jing: “…” Bro, I’d suggest calming down a bit.

Main Star

Empire Research Institute Base

Blue light flickered across massive screens, displaying fluctuating streams of data.

Inside, the atmosphere was tense. Researchers clutched their files and quietly slipped out, careful not to make a sound.

Books on mental power and neuroscience were strewn across a desk, at which sat none other than Dean Chang of the Research Institute.

Despite being over fifty, his hair was streaked with gray. Clad in a white lab coat, his lips trembled with suppressed fury. He took several gulps of tea before finally regaining his composure.

On a nearby sofa lounged a young man, lazily flipping through a book. His slightly long, jet-black hair framed a cold beauty mark at the corner of his eye.

Dean Chang’s words came out clipped, teeth gritted: “I sent you to the low-level arena to observe and learn as a bystander. I even imposed heavy restrictions so you’d be weaker than an average person—yet you still managed to cause such chaos?! Xu Wanzhi, you really have a talent for creating trouble, don’t you?”

Green vines crept up the pitch-black castle; the third snowy night was upon them. Time had run out, and the mission had failed. As the door creaked shut, the dim light illuminated the players’ faces, twisted in despair. Ding dong. The punishment begins. Out of the darkness strode a tall, lean judge, with straight legs and an indescribable air of elegance. All the players were shocked, angry, and terrified. The man gave a lazy smile, his voice casual yet distant: “Don’t rush. I’ll give you ten minutes to run.” The survivors gritted their teeth, faces pale, trembling as they stood and began to flee frantically, searching for the final door. Among them, Lin Jing rose indifferently, heading to the depths of the third floor—the castle's forbidden zone. The final escape route had long been destroyed; it was nothing more than the judge’s cruel game. He’d rather end himself than die at that person’s hands. Suddenly, a statue’s eyes glowed red, and it lunged at him with a knife. In that instant, someone grabbed him around the waist from behind, pulling him out of harm’s way. A low chuckle sounded near his ear: “Baby, it’s only been ten minutes, and you’re already running into my arms?” Lin Jing lowered his gaze: “Get lost.” The young and handsome winner smirked, murmuring softly: “Call me husband, and I’ll let you go.” Lin Jing ground his teeth: “Heh, dream on, kid.” When the role-playing ended, he finally learned the truth: in this game, the "devoted and perfect boyfriend" written into his script was actually the final boss. A scummy liar who toyed with his feelings and ruined his youth. What Lin Jing didn’t know was that from this moment on, this liar would bind himself to him completely. *** In the Eternal Game Player Forum, one post remains perpetually at the top: — — Let’s continue to call out the infamous rank-climbing leech ‘Shuang Mu Cheng Jing’ and his forever-bound lover ‘Wan Feng Wan Yue.’ Ugh, what a disgusting dog pair!” Lin Jing originally wanted to rely on his own skills to pass levels and make money honestly. But thanks to his in-game first love/husband/boyfriend/master(?), he became the most notorious freeloader in the entire interstellar network. Even the official game moderators certified him as the #1 freeloader in the server. Lin Jing typed a slow “?”: Huh? Who’s the freeloader? Xu Wanzhi chuckled lightly, coaxing him gently: “I’m the freeloader. Thank you, baby, for carrying me to the top.” Two powerhouses. *Hunfen: Literally "mixing points," a gaming slang term for someone who gains points, rankings, or rewards by putting in minimal effort, often relying on teammates.
