“I’m angry, and when I’m angry, my eyes turn red,” Han Jiao said with a pout, lowered his eyes, and then turned around. “I’m going downstairs to eat.”

Xie Duo watched his retreating figure as he went downstairs. After a short while, he turned and went upstairs as well.

However, halfway down, Han Jiao’s ears twitched. He immediately stopped in his tracks, looking up towards the floor above. “Aren’t you going to comfort me?”

Xie Duo lowered his head, gazing down and asked, “What exactly do you want me to do?”

“My eyes are red!”

Xie Duo raised an eyebrow. “You said you wanted to go downstairs to eat.”

“You can also come with me to have a bite.”

Xie Duo lowered his eyes, thought for a moment, and then looked up, shaking his head. “Do you think I have an appetite?”

After saying that, he turned and wearily walked up the stairs.

Suddenly, there was a hurried sound of footsteps from behind.

Xie Duo didn’t turn around. Han Jiao slammed into his back with a thud, his arms tightly wrapped around his waist, preventing him from leaving.

Han Jiao pressed his face closely against Xie Duo’s back. Without emotions, he asked, “Xie Duo, are you still mad at me?”

With one foot on the next stair, Xie Duo took a deep breath and softly replied, “Yes.”

“Are you not as fond of me as you were a few days ago?”

“It’s possible.”

Han Jiao furrowed his brow, his hands holding even tighter. “So, if I like you a little more than before, when we add it up, would it be enough for us to be together for two lifetimes?”

A moment of silence followed.

Xie Duo raised his hand to release the hands that were clasped around his waist, turned around, and glanced down at Han Jiao on the steps.

Han Jiao looked up at him with a face devoid of emotions, eyes still red with a hint of rare unease.

“You really keep me guessing, Han Xiaobai.” Xie Duo shook his head. “Sometimes you’re very cautious, and other times, you’re fearless. Sometimes you’re rational to the point of being cold, and at other times, you’re completely unreasonable.”

Han Jiao lowered his head and shrugged. “We wizards, Your Highness, our temperaments are often this peculiar. Please forgive me.”

Xie Duo fell silent for a moment and then said, “Let’s go have a meal.”

“Because I was very afraid!” Han Jiao suddenly looked up. “You didn’t visit me in the cell for two days. During the day, I had to keep talking to Liu Tong to ease my fear. But at night, I couldn’t sleep. I’m not afraid of being implicated or punished. I’m only afraid of you being upset. I kept thinking and guessing, wondering if you still liked me. So, I lay in the pitch-black cell, gritting my teeth, swearing an oath: I must stop liking you first, or else I’d wish for divine punishment. But when you came tonight, I heard you the moment you entered the cell. I can recognize your footsteps. I was scared that you might say something heartless to me, so I pretended to be asleep.”

Xie Duo lowered his head, his eyes fixed on him. “You can distinguish other people’s footsteps?”

Han Jiao muttered while looking down, “Only yours.”

“Are my footsteps different?”

“It’s related to how you walk.” Han Jiao blushed. “You have long legs, and when you walk, your knees lift a bit higher than others. When you walk quickly, you have a sort of bounce in your step. I hear that unique rhythm, and I can imagine how you walk. If the rhythm matches, it’s definitely you.”

The cloud over Xie Duo’s face suddenly cleared to a large extent as he stared at the little child prodigy in disbelief. “You usually can’t be bothered to look at me, yet you have the leisure to distinguish my footsteps.”

“It’s not like that.” Han Jiao’s heart raced, and he felt embarrassed, but he wanted to confess all these shameful things to Xie Duo.

He couldn’t stand Xie Duo questioning his feelings anymore. He had to overcome his personality and say all of this. So, he raised his head, looked at Xie Duo with a solemn expression, and whispered, “When you’re not looking at me, I’m secretly watching you.”

Xie Duo’s handsome face was full of question marks. He frowned and looked at Han Jiao, then couldn’t help but laugh. “Are you wizards all so mysterious in your ways?”

Han Jiao immediately lowered his head again and whispered, “I told you, I’m different from you.”

“Why are you suddenly telling me all this?” Xie Duo looked down, his gaze fixed on him. “Are you afraid I won’t like you anymore?”

“If you really don’t like me,” Han Jiao lowered his head and spoke sadly, “I might not be able to stop liking you first, and then I’d be struck by lightning. By then, you’d have to write on my tombstone, ‘My tutor and beloved spouse, Han Jiao.'”

Xie Duo furrowed his brow and asked seriously, “Can we skip the ‘and’?”

Han Jiao raised an eyebrow fiercely. “No, we’ve been intimate once.”

“But you said you don’t remember.”

Han Jiao’s eyes gleamed with a threatening aura. “Do you want to deny it, Your Highness?”

Xie Duo smirked, revealing a mischievous grin. Without warning, he swiftly bent down, lifting Han Jiao horizontally, heading straight for the second-floor bedroom. “I’m afraid you won’t admit it. Tonight, I’ll make sure you remember.”

Caught off guard, Han Jiao  kicked his legs in protest while roaring, “No! No! Xie Duo, I’m not ready yet!”

“Three strikes, Han Xiaobai. It’s late, and we might not have enough time. I thought of sparing you twice, but you keep provoking me.”

Xie Duo threw him onto the bed with a slightly rough and urgent motion. Without waiting for a response, he leaned in, sealing Han Jiao’s resistant cries with his lips.

Xie Duo’s lips were cool and soft, quickly melting Han Jiao’s resistance. However, the sudden tension of the moment made him instinctively push against Xie Duo’s chest.
