Bright sunshine.
Perfect for a date.
A silver hovercar sped along the streets, like an arrow flying through the galaxy, its sharp brilliance bursting forth, the sleek lines of its body reflecting sharply and smoothly under the light.
Even people who didn’t know cars could tell at a glance how rare and extraordinary this one was.
Zuo Shihuan looked slightly surprised as he watched the scenery flash past outside the window. The underside of the car skimmed the surface of the lake, splashing up water droplets. Small fish swam nearby, and aquatic plants swayed lazily.
It was as if everything could be touched within reach.
And yet it was quickly scattered by the spray of water kicked up by the hovercar.
All natural living things couldn’t keep up with the car’s speed. Only the howling wind outside the window seemed to become the car’s aid, racing along excitedly together with the hovercar in an exhilarating contest.
At the same time, one could also tell the true master who was controlling this hovercar.
Just how exhilarated and excited his mood was.
It made Zuo Shihuan’s mood surge and race along as well. He tilted his head and sneakily glanced at Gu Heng in the driver’s seat.
Ever since he got into the car, Gu Heng’s lips had been lifted high the whole time. His restrained black eyes did not hide in the slightest the glittering anticipation and excitement within, yet he still tried hard to appear relatively steady and reliable.
Don’t be fooled by how fast the hovercar felt.
In fact, Zuo Shihuan didn’t feel the slightest bumpiness or discomfort inside the car.
If not for the rapidly changing scenery outside the window, and the occasional sight of Gu Heng excitedly taking shortcuts, showing off his skills as he weaved between forest paths, skimmed across the lake surface, and darted among suburban buildings, one really wouldn’t have discovered that Gu Heng’s emotions had risen to a state bordering on madness.
It made Zuo Shihuan follow along and go crazy together with Gu Heng, becoming childish and free together with him, and full of anticipation and trust as he handed over all his physical and personal safety to Gu Heng.
It didn’t matter where he went to fool around.
As long as he took him along.
Gu Heng really was extremely exhilarated. Even while driving, he couldn’t help showing off his skills to vent his overly abundant energy, but he didn’t forget for a moment about Zuo Shihuan sitting in the passenger seat.
He kept paying attention to Zuo Shihuan’s expression.
Only after confirming that Zuo Shihuan showed no sign of discomfort, and even revealed astonished, admiring looks at his flashy maneuver of skimming over the lake, did Gu Heng feel as if he had been injected with shot after shot of adrenaline.
On the surface, he acted cool and didn’t say a word. In reality, he kept on showing off his driving, exhausting everything he had learned in the empire over the first half of his life, all just to earn a single look of surprise and delight from Zuo Shihuan.
That alone was enough to make Gu Heng feel his heart burst with satisfaction.
In the past, those techniques he had once disdained and found boring were nothing more than endlessly repeating precise mecha piloting work, slaughtering one insect race after another for the empire, for the imperial soldiers behind him.
Never for himself.
He felt not even a shred of excitement.
Only boredom and numbness.
The cheers and praise behind him couldn’t stir even a hint of interest in Gu Heng.
Now, Gu Heng finally felt that learning all those technical skills had actually been worthwhile. Just pleasing Zuo Shihuan alone made him feel that everything he’d learned in this life had been worth it!
Gu Heng’s black eyes were clear and bright. Smiling with his teeth showing, he said, “Shihuan, is there anywhere you want to go?”
Zuo Shihuan turned his face with a smile and replied, “I don’t know. I’m already very happy just having you here. As for where you want to take me, Gu Heng, anywhere is fine.”
Gu Heng’s eyes instantly lit up. Zuo Shihuan’s casual, heartfelt line of sweet talk struck straight into his heart. While warmth surged within him in delight, he also very rarely felt his cheeks flush with a bit of shyness.
Gu Heng cleared his throat lightly twice, secretly glancing at Zuo Shihuan beside him with his black eyes. “Me too, as long as you’re by my side, Shihuan.”
For no apparent reason, under Gu Heng’s quietly fluttering, shy gaze, Zuo Shihuan also gradually felt his face heating up. Unconsciously, his palms began to sweat slightly as he clenched them, and the tips of his ears were quietly dyed a rosy red.
“That’s good, Gu Heng, you…”
Zuo Shihuan lowered his shy eyes and lightly bit his lower lip. In the end, he still didn’t say out loud the words asking Gu Heng not to keep sneaking glances at him.
Suddenly, the inside of the car felt a little hot.
Embarrassed, Zuo Shihuan turned his head away and looked out the window before continuing, “Gu Heng, focus on driving. Don’t…” always look at me.
Gu Heng slightly withdrew his gaze, rubbed his nose, and said, “I am driving properly. And… Shihuan, what were you saying don’t what?”
Zuo Shihuan shifted his body to the side, pressing his forehead against the window glass in an attempt to lower his rapidly rising body temperature. Not daring to look at Gu Heng, he changed the subject and said, “It’s a bit warm inside the car. Can you open the window a bit?”
Gu Heng raised his hand to press the button to open the window, but his finger suddenly paused. He lifted his brow, curled his lips into a smile, and said to Zuo Shihuan, “Since we’re opening it, why not open it a bit more.”
Zuo Shihuan: “Huh?”
He quickly understood what that meant.
The top of the hovercar gradually opened into a sunroof, and as the car’s speed slowly decreased, Zuo Shihuan immediately felt a burst of refreshing, gentle wind brushing through his hair and across his cheeks.
Looking up was blue sky and white clouds.
Looking to the side was lake water and fish.
Looking beside him was… his lover.
Always so free like the wind, casual, unrestrained, proud and untamed, yet willing to stop by his side, circle around him, and slip into his heart like an omnipresent wind, constantly telling him that he was loved.
Watching Gu Heng’s black hair stirred by the wind, the lightness and freedom at his brows, and the dazzling black eyes whose entire world fell into Zuo Shihuan’s eyes and heart, his heart followed his will.
After being sobered by the wind, Zuo Shihuan instead became even more intoxicated and made a dangerous move.
He stood up.
Half-standing in the open-roof hovercar.
Zuo Shihuan suddenly wrapped an arm around the back of Gu Heng’s head, and without regard for the fact that Gu Heng was still driving, directly kissed him, touching his lover’s slightly cool lips.
He pried open his lover’s suddenly flustered lips.
Insisting that his lover indulgently and helplessly put everything else aside, stop the hovercar between the lake and the blue sky, lay him down on the car, and lean over to respond to his sudden, surging affection and kisses.
As lips and teeth intertwined, accompanied by the salty scent of the lake, splashes of water from swimming fish, the fresh and gentle wind, and… his lover holding his waist, he was unable to help letting out bursts of joyful laughter from the heart.
Gu Heng laughed until his eyes shone brightly. Lowering his head to look at Zuo Shihuan lying there, he laughed wantonly and said, “Shihuan, so you love me that much, huh? You couldn’t even wait for a moment.”
Gu Heng, who had been anxiously thinking nonstop about where to take Zuo Shihuan on their date, now felt that the scenery here was actually quite nice.
It made Zuo Shihuan’s cheeks burn, feeling like he was being laughed at.
Before Zuo Shihuan could angrily think of defending himself, he saw Gu Heng affectionately tap the tip of his nose, their foreheads touching, intense love and tension all gathering in a pair of deep black, uneasy eyes.
For some reason, Zuo Shihuan’s heart tightened. He wanted to reach out and soothe what was rising in the depths of those black eyes that had always been so unrestrained and reckless, that kind of nervous unease shouldn’t belong to Gu Heng.
He really did still like Gu Heng’s malicious, unrestrained bad smile the most. Even though Gu Heng always teased him so much it made him want to hit someone, he still loved Gu Heng exactly as he was.
Putting down all vigilance and pretense.
Showing him all of his true emotions, showing them to him alone.
Whether it was pure and flawless white, brilliantly colorful, or the pitch-black heart of raging storms, Zuo Shihuan would accept, tolerate, and love Gu Heng exactly like that.
Gu Heng didn’t need to be perfect, nor did he need to be outstanding.
Even being a little childish was fine.
Always raising his brows maliciously, teasing him with ill intent, it was… fine too.
Because Zuo Shihuan knew this was Gu Heng’s true nature.
Even though he always teased him maliciously, it was like a lonely little wolf cub who had wandered for a long time and finally found a companion it could get close to.
A bit too excited.
A bit unable to control himself.
But Zuo Shihuan understood that Gu Heng carried not a trace of malice, he simply wanted to be close to him, only that his way of getting close was a little unusual compared to ordinary people.
What’s more, this kind of Gu Heng felt especially unique and interesting to Zuo Shihuan, like a fresh, novel breeze blowing into his own step-by-step, dull, numb life.
Stirring his originally predictable life into complete chaos.
Derailing him.
All his preset plans were completely destroyed by Gu Heng, to the point that he no longer seemed to know what he should be doing with his work each day.
While feeling flustered and overwhelmed with worry on one hand, on the other hand he began, from the bottom of his heart, to look forward to every day with Gu Heng and to an immeasurable future.
What would happen?
No matter what happened, as long as he was with Gu Heng, every day would be filled with joy and freshness, as if he had finally learned what it meant to take deep breaths of life’s fresh air.
He wanted to be with Gu Heng.
He wanted to be with Gu Heng every single day.
Laughing together, crying together, it didn’t matter; in the end, they would still laugh together.
Zuo Shihuan would forever like and love the way Gu Heng smiled at him, eyes full of mutual understanding and affection, each reflecting the other’s figure.
Precisely because of that, when Zuo Shihuan saw nervous unease revealed in Gu Heng’s eyes, it made his heart feel tightly clenched, faintly aching, leaving him at a loss, not knowing what he had done wrong.
“Gu Heng, are you unhappy?”
Zuo Shihuan’s light brown pupils trembled slightly as he pressed his lips together and asked nervously.
Gu Heng immediately shook his head. “I’m very happy.”
Zuo Shihuan hesitated. “Then why do you look not very happy, like you’re still anxious and nervous about something…”
Gu Heng froze for a moment, then lowered his head and smiled helplessly. “You even noticed that, Shihuan. Is my emotional disguise really that bad? But I really am happy, and I genuinely want to spend a perfect, happy date with you today.”
Zuo Shihuan said, “But how come you…”
A trace of uneasy, complicated emotion flashed through Gu Heng’s lowered gaze. He pressed his lips together and said, “I’m just nervous. Very nervous about whether you’ll like the place I take you on our date. I want you to be happy, want to give you the best date, want you to feel that today is the most perfect date.”
“But I was short on time and didn’t prepare a lot, and I don’t know whether you like going on dates to the Federation’s aquarium, or the zoo, or maybe sky gardens, or various styles of five-star restaurants…”
Gu Heng lifted his eyes to look at Zuo Shihuan and asked nervously, “So, Shihuan, where do you like to go on dates?”
Zuo Shihuan froze. “But right now this already feels like a very perfect date.”
Unwilling to give up, Gu Heng pressed on, “Then what about next? Shihuan, where do you want to go on a date?”
Zuo Shihuan was left bewildered. For him, anywhere was fine.
Gu Heng asked nervously, “Since you like opening the window, looking at the scenery, looking at the lake and the sky, then do you want to…”
The rest of his words were blocked by a kiss from Zuo Shihuan.
Zuo Shihuan kissed Gu Heng, then lightly bit the overly anxious and nervous Gu Heng in slight annoyance. “I already said it, right now is perfect.”
“Where we go, isn’t it just about being with you.”
Zuo Shihuan laughed, touching Gu Heng’s cheek. “It’s already perfect. Being with you, Gu Heng, is the most perfect date.”
Gu Heng’s pupils trembled slightly in a daze. Under Zuo Shihuan’s eyes full of affection and indulgence, he still touched his nose, the tips of his ears turning red, and said, “Shihuan, do you really have no demands of me at all?”
Zuo Shihuan asked in confusion, “Demands? What demands? Besides, I’m an Alpha, dates are supposed to be arranged by me.”
Gu Heng instantly fell silent. “…”
Sometimes, Zuo Shihuan’s stubborn insistence on these Alpha stereotypes felt especially strong, and when he got stubborn like this, it was also especially cute.
Gu Heng covered his face, curling his lips into a smile. “All right, but Shihuan, you’re also… if you hadn’t met me, you really would be the easiest Alpha in the world to trick.”
Zuo Shihuan tilted his head in confusion, not understanding what Gu Heng was laughing about. He wasn’t easy to trick at all, okay? It was just because the person was Gu Heng.
Zuo Shihuan frowned unhappily and said, “That’s because it’s you, Gu Heng. I think… even if you tricked me, it wouldn’t matter.”
A trace of obscure, indescribable emotion suddenly flashed through Gu Heng’s eyes. He said hoarsely, “You’d better not be tricked by me.”
Zuo Shihuan didn’t quite understand, but he still curved his lips into a smile. “Okay.”
